Hi, I'm Chris Faircloth Artistic Director and co-owner of Salon Teez. For Expert Village. This is how to trim women's hair. One of the fringes that is wildly popular right now is the side swept fringe where it goes from short to long across the face.. We could create this just by placing our comb in a position such as this and cutting the hair off, but an easy way to do this would be to place our comb on the hair line and rock the comb back.. Where the comb comes off, the head would be our high point of where we want to create our fringe.. This is our first reference point and now we'll comb down to just to the corner of the eyebrow, to create the starting pyramid of our fringe.. Now we'll look to see where the part or the section is going to be, and rather than create, another pyramid line down to the corner of the eyebrow. We'Ll actually incorporate that part into our section here. So our section will be more of a slight rectangle than a true pyramid., We'll comb, the hair opposite of how we want the hair to lay. I'm using the fine teeth of the comb, so that I get a good amount of tension on the hair. I'll drop Down into more of a horizontal section or a horizontal line and begin to twist, the comb over just one time., The fine teeth of the comb actually help hold the hair. Now I'll place. My fingers just behind that and drop down to the length where I want to see the shortest piece lie.. Once I have the length of where I want that hair to be I'll simply cut the ends of the hair off, and this may take more than one cut. Now I've created my fringe.. I simply comb the hair back over and I've created a nice short to longer piece.. You can create this or do this as short as you want to., It's best to do it in increments versus just one big large chunk. Otherwise, it may be shorter than what you actually wanted it to be.. So again, I comb the hair over, have it nice and tight I'm down to a horizontal slightly twist, the hair over grab it with my fingers, notice that, where my shortest piece will be is about at the bridge of the nose cut, the hair off bluntly release. The hair and comb it back over the side that we want it to go on. And now I've got my short to long piece that melds into the sides and the back nicely without creating a lot of havoc.

caseyajb03: Thanks so much for sharing your technique. I especially love how quick and simple you've made it. I've been scared for years to attempt cutting my own fringe which I've kept side-swept for 10 years. I followed all of your steps except I went just 1/2 an inch longer than what I wanted with the 1st cut. The 1/2 inch was enough for me to snip and tweak to the exact look & texture I wanted. I honestly love the way they came out, even more than all the times I paid a pro to do them! Took 5 mins!

Darla_Darla_Darla: This is how I cut my bangs, thanks to this video. It comes out just how I want it every time. I use it on my daughter and my friends as well, I just adjust it a bit to suit the individual. If you are looking to try to cut your own bangs, this technique is definitely the one to go with!

Katz Lorenzana: I just finished cutting my bangs. The advice about cutting it slowly to the desired length rather than cutting a big chunk was the BEST ever. I LUUV my bangs! Thanks so much! PS. it's an almost professional cut thanks to some very professional tips You rock!

PinkUnicornPrincess: This actually worked!!! I just did it and it looks great!!

2HoundsDesign: Thank you!! Finally an expert explaining a proper technique rather than someone who just makes videos of themselves cutting their own hair...poorly. Off to trim my daughters bangs between her professional cuts!

Msvnessa1: Just did this to my bangs, came out nice I like it. Thanks for the technique.

TamAnh Nguyen: I have to give you credit for this, My bangs came out as I expected by using your method, thanks

nervewurrba: I LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE! super awesome. im going to have to try this sometime.

Queenofweaves: Great video. Very detailed like being in class :0) Because I only work with extension I usually would use a razor comb. I had a coworker tell me about moving the hair in the opposite direction but i didn't understand. But I get it now with your video :0)

Fallon: I love side bangs, I feel like they look good on everyone.

leoness8888: You are the BEST!! Your tutorial is very very clear and very understandable. Thank You!!

puckyjuice: I loved it!!! thanks!

Jazel Marie: thanks so much for this! it saved me a lot of money!

Cheeky & Lippy Street: What a COOL TRICK!!!!!!!! I agree with others - this is the best 'expert video' I've seen. Thanks =)

TheFireicing: omg i did it !!,..thank you !!

CYANG: Looks cool, i should try it out :)

Kelly Farnsworth: He meant that the comb will be your guideline for where the highest point is that you will want to take hair. You don't want too thin of a fringe, or too thick, so that helps you decide where to take the hair for the fringe. It has nothing to do with the actual cutting, and I have no idea how that helped the video at all but that's what it means.

sunshinegrl1997: You are the real deal. Thank you.

sherrell Isaacs: thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou im a student in cosmetology and i am really working on cutting hair and so many people are interested in bangs and this is so wonderful. i will try this

Kenia: You saved my bangs!! :D

Chantal J.: This is exactly how side bangs should be cut! The sad part- Alot don't know! I figure every all should go back to school however often-- to learn bangs ALONE--Bangs change all the time..and that's what makes a hair cut..There are stylists that are still cutting side bangs--actually on the side they appear on-Sad!--I explained this to a stylist about cutting them on the opposite side- he looked stunned--He give me the line..Well all hair dressers do it differently..SAD! Thanks for posting!

Dash Dean: This is for "I love You tube" 0:29 - 0:38.....He meant that when you place the comb on your hair line and rock it back...there is a point where the comb will not be in contact with your scalp. So that is where you section out your hair diagonally to the corner of the eyebrow or where your eyebrow ends...I hope this is helpful and clears your doubt.

MissyKoneKo: Im gonna try this and I hope I dont mess up my hair LOL

XXswtSECRETXX: imma try it on my sister's hair first, lol. i'm sure it'll turn out great! and then i'm going to do it on my hair. yup.

Mercia_Latte: the thing is side swept bangs does not have a part. part is the normal way then switch your bang the opposite side side, you can it that way as well.

rosiky711: I tried this and ended up with too much hair on the top. my friend cut my bangs one time and divided the bangs from the rest of the hair parallel to the forehead line instead of that weird triangle thing.

Chantal J.: By the way, is there any chance I can get u to post a tutorial on pretty much the same thing..but making them shorter side bangs..so that when they fall back into place..they sit around eyebrows..maybe a bit longer..See the twist u do at the side is easiest with longer bangs..but I would love to see how u do it making them shorter.~ I ask cause I have had them done with less hair to work with...and they still turned out awesome...Please..! I hope this message finds u..! Thanks!

Gabriela Posadas: It works!!! :D thanx!!!

Kelly Poisoncupcake: @CookieMonster117100 you can buy the mannequin/manikin at most beauty supply stores. I got mine for $28. It depends on what kind of hair you want and what you can afford. The range is from $24-$75 most of them would be $28.

Gaby Velasco: @maliceellie I think than when you twist it the upper side -the one closer to your face- will be a little shorter. Well, that's what I think hahaha not so sure. But I did it w/o the the twist and id didn't look right...

God Rocks: I did it and I LIKED IT

Gaby Velasco: @D3gRassiLUV I almost screw them up too... I forgot to twist it hahahaha luckily it was long so I could fix it. Try the clip on bangs, I saw a video the other day on how to apply them and it looks nice :)

White Diamond: Seems easy and simple. This is expert village we're talking about.Hope they don't disappoint me...

Thomas Duffy: @SingingIsPeace when he said "rock the comb back" he's talking about finding the highest point of the hair that would be cut into the bangs, the point where the comb becomes almost parallel with the ground

Maria F: omg it works!!!! woohooo!!!

lisa mason: I'am really scared 2 do my bangs, but I ready at the same time lol

Jejie.M: he meant use the comb place it on the middle of your forehead and just point it straight up so that you can know where your bang should start.

La Vang: hey.. very very nice.. i watched a lot of other videos but i'm going to do ur hairstyle.. like it alot..

Megan Mateo: @yosi4luv You need to go up to the box where it says CC at near where the volume control is and click on it. Same thing happened to me. It had closed captioning on. Once you click it, the words should disappear.

merica Alba: Is he cutting horizontal or short to long?

BeautifulMonster15: Where do you get those heads? So that i can practice my hairdressing? :P

Janessa Miller: He said WALK the comb back as referring to lay it down straight and lined up whit the hairline:)

getgorgeousnow: hate to say, i will def use this on my clients! thanks

coolbreeze: Just wanted to say chris your vids on cutting womens hair has been very helpful tonight. My wife has been asking me 4 sum time now to cut her hair. We've been so busy recently I kept putting ti off till tonight and so I saw ur vids.study them 4 a few minutes and wolala my wifie looks sexier them ever and 4 the rest of you "NO she don't look like she got into a fight with the lawn mower. Farheen Naz: you are a great haircut :)

Thomas Duffy: @SingingIsPeace awesome!!! i'm glad i could help!!! <3

xoJennaloverxo: Sounds good!:) But don't be to worried about your weight! like you said, it's baby fat! it'll go away, and eat healthy and good then you're Fine! You're only 11!:D

Dani Dulay: i want side bangs!

SandSnowMXGirl: Washing is always good :)

bunny9791: I like this tutorial...

ozorkie: wow i gotta try this but first i have 2 grow out my bangs! LOL

Taylor Rene: @fatka1- i know right!!! when i go to the hair salon to get my bangs and hair cutt they always do it to short so now comes and does it :D she is really good

H03skii: How far back on the crown/top of the head is the "reference point" supposed to be? I already know how to cut the hair-BUT, I don't know how to start O.O ANYone, help??? O.o

Sophie: Awesome dude!

karpovka: You saved my life. =] =))

heleneolesen: I think that it works. but way to long for me:D

Kristina Pingley: skills. thanks for the video

Criszy Ehm: I want my bangs as long as this

SandSnowMXGirl: They slow it down like that so you can see what they are doing. Some of us can't afford to pay a stylist just to cut our freakin bangs. =)

isluna: to see where your bangs should be correctly parted

Alyssa R: Figures, I find this video AFTER I screw up my bangs

Amy H: would this be a good idea for a large forehead?

MrsZtv530: he means to tilt the comb back

Betzy Mena: I want one of those dolls

ashley: wow the closed captions got everything correct this time.

small bird: Finally! Someone who dosn't cut the bangs straight rather than slanted. If you want swept bangs DO NOT cut them straight across. If you do you're a noob. I'm getting mine cute a little shorter. I hated them in my face so I've grown them about 3 inches past my chin. But becuase my hair's wavy, my bangs dry awkwardly, so I'm getting about 2 inches cut. If you're just getting swept bangs get them a bit longer, like chin length. It's much more comfortable. :)

Skylar: I think this video doesn't help... you shouldn't cut in the opposite direction, it's easyer to see how you want it to be when you cut in in the direction you want it to be... and I think better way to cut your bangs into side swept bangs is razoring.. simply razor i the way you want it to be, or if you're not confident enough to do yourself with no prep, lok for videos.. or ask a friend ^^ but that's just my opinion..

Ahoy Kitteh: Haha I already have scene hair.. they fringed my bangs wrong -.-

Theresa Newbury: just lean the comb back from the top (Haha sorry this is a year later)

Alana: @thomasduffy92 thank youuu :)))) <3

Mackenzie Robison: Thatss Wayy To Longg, I Cut My Own Bangs And They Look Better Thann Thatt!

June O: awesomeness.

Lucy Pollard: Unfortunately your hand blocks the cut but good technique.

dominoeangel: @D3gRassiLUV aaaww...you mesed your bangs aye? oh well...how do we learn:) If you are sad...you can easily walk to a salon and have a stylist fix them.....it is so worth it :)

terraincognita96: Terrible explanation. I was lost from the beginning. I guess that's why I pay to have this done. Using light hair would have been much easier to see. The dark hair blends into the black background and you cant see what he's doing

Alana: i don't get 0:29 - 0:38 :((( can somebody explain to me how he meand that 'rock the comb back' :((( thanks

sibee kurdi: loveeeeeelyyyy

Elizabeth Pate: Why does he twist the hair versus just trimming it with out the twist? isn't the effect roughly the same?

Alana: @thomasduffy92 YES :D a looootttt :D <3

Thomas Duffy: @SingingIsPeace did my explanation help??

AwakeAndTired: I tried this a couple of years ago, It was terrible. If you have no clue what your doing, please just go to someone who does, rather than screwing up and having to grow it out like I had to. :P
