The 5 Most Popular Hairstyles of 2012

If you are looking for the most popular hairstyles of 2012, you have come to the right place! Last night, I decided to research what hairstyles are popular so far in 2012, just out of curiosity. It turns out that this season’s hairstyles are about simplicity and embracing your natural beauty. These are the 5 most popular hairstyles that I found. In this article, I will teach you about quiffs and volume, the glamorous blowout, the accessorized updo, the slicked back ponytail, and the wet look.

5. Quiffs and Volume

The first popular hairstyle of 2012 I want to mention is the quiff. Everyone knows what volume is, and it is rarely ever out of style. For those of you who don’t know what a quiff is, it is a hairstyle that resembles the pompadour style or sometimes a mohawk.

To do this look, first, use a root boost like Matrix Amplify Wonder Boost Root Lifter. Spray the root lifter right at your roots and then blow dry your hair, either with your head upside down or holding it straight up. One of my favorite products is Bedhead Candy Fixations Sugar Dust, which is a micro-texture powder that you sprinkle in your roots to give your hair more volume. Next, I would section the first inch or so of your hairline down and put it out-of-the-way for now. You are going to have to tease the whole top of your hair with a teasing comb/brush.  After you teased your hair, pull that first subsection back over the whole thing to cover up the ratting. Use a pick or comb to smooth it out and make it look nice. You can hold it in place with bobby pins or hair clips. I think it is cute if you do the quiff on the top of your hair, and then slick the sides back. Don’t forget to use a LOT of hairspray. I recommend BigSexyHair What a Tease, Backcomb in a Bottle for a really hard hold.

4. The Glamorous Blowout

The next popular hairstyle of 2012 is the glamorous blowout.

To create this look, when your hair is wet, separate it into smaller subsections. Use a metal round brush (to heat up and curl your hair), with softer bristles that smooth out your hair while they blow dry it. You’ll also need a blow-dryer with a nozzle attachment. Starting at the nape of your neck, to the top of your head, blow-dry about 1-inch subsections by wrapping the section around the brush and holding the blow-dryer so the diffusing attachment touches the hair. Pull the hair out with the round brush and wrap it back again. Continue this motion until that subsection is dry. Then, continue through your whole head. Be sure to use a good thermal protectant.

3. The Accessorized Updo

2012 was one heck of a year, especially in the hair world. Check out 5 of the hottest, most popular hairstyles of 2012...The next popular hairstyle of 2012 I want to mention is the accessorized updo. I do this type of stuff on my own hair all the time. In fact, I probably started the trend. The accessorized updo is really easy to do on yourself for an everyday style. Just part your hair into a bunch of different sections. Either braid some sections or twist them and hold them in place with bobby pins. You can make barrel curls also, with a curling iron, and fasten them in place with bobby pins. Be creative. Anything works. Then just accessorize them by adding flowers, ribbons, pretty barrettes, bows, or headbands. I can’t stress enough to hold it all in place with a ton of hairspray. I would use something like Redken Quick Dry 18, for flexible finished hold.

2. The Slicked-Back Ponytail

This next hairstyle is extremely popular in 2012. To create a slicked-back ponytail, I would just use a natural bristle brush and some Bedhead After Party Smoothing Cream.  Just brush all your hair back and then apply some After Party to smooth all of your hair. Then, hold it all in place with a cool hair-tie.

And the winner is…..

1. The Wet Hair Look

I read about the wet look on every page I researched.

It is the most popular style for 2012.

To create this look, first, use a wet style gel like Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel. Let your hair air-dry or use a bonnet-type hair dryer to dry it. Next, use the hairspray of your choice to keep it on lock. I recommend Bedhead Masterpiece Mega Shine Hairspray which also adds shine. To finish the look, spritz it with a shine spray like It’s a 10 Miracle Shine Spray or Bedhead Headrush. Now you are ready to conquer 2012!
