Hey guys, so I used to have a video about how to grow long hair like the no BS way to grow long hair and I'm redoing it because I needed to be a little bit more up-to-date. I feel, like I forgot to say a couple of things. So just a reminder: my name is Stephanie. I work in Miami and Orlando Florida and I've been specializing in cutting and coloring and styling and caring for curly hair for four years. It'S all that I do um. I have my own private suite here in Miami and I work at a salon in Orlando, but where I rent my own chair and do my own independent booking and I have a website - the curl ninja comm, where you can learn a little bit more about me As a professional, and also on my Instagram at the curl ninja, so basically cutting your hair does not make it grow. The only way to grow your hair long is actually to not get a haircut but the. But you want your hair to look good while you're growing it right. So if you have a bad shape or you have a lot of really unhealthy ends, getting a haircut can help. You get your hair, looking really nice so that it looks nice as it continues to grow out, but the only way to get your hair long as fast as possible is to get as few haircuts as possible. And I know that sounds crazy because I'm a hair stylist. I make my income from people coming and sitting in my chair, but that's why I go so heavy on social media, because I need to constantly bring in new clientele so that I can see my clients only once or twice a year. But my clients are super. Super happy because they're all reaching their goals and getting the length that they could never get before. So there is a myth created by honestly, it's honestly, the fault of hair schools and cosmetologist who want to keep clients coming in as often as possible in hair school. They teach you how to keep your clients coming back as often impossible as often as possible, whether it's telling them they need a trim. They need a toner. You need to touch up this touch-up that it's like trying to build a full book, so you can pay your bills. I want hairdressers to be able to pay their bills, but I also don't want people to be lied to anymore. So if your hair looks bad, get a haircut by someone who can give you a beautiful haircut, ideally someone who will think about the future of your haircut, because if you're not thinking about the future of the haircut aka, how it's going to grow out, then it's Not gon na look good for very long and boom there. You are getting another haircut. I don't always cut my clients length when they come back. If their length looks good like it's even and they're just need, there's layers reshaped, we just reshaped their layers. They keep growing it out. We don't change the length at all. The value of a haircut isn't how much hair is on the floor. It'S what's left on the head. How does it look? Is it what the person wanted and is it getting to them to their goal, if they're not there yet, is it getting them to their goal as quickly as possible, and are you educating them on how to take care of it at home? So it can look good for six months or a year as well now, especially with curly hair, the tighter the curl pattern, the longer a good shape is gon na hold, because it's growing in a tighter circle now looser curl patterns. You can still have a super long, hair, very hair. Super super long, get some really nice layers and as long as you're not doing anything to cause breakage. So breakage will cause a haircut to look uneven faster because there it's not gon na break the same. All over right and then boom you've got unevenness in your length unevenness in your layers. Another reason that hair a haircut might not last very long is, if you are doing things to damage your hair. So if you're doing color, if you are doing, I mean color in an unsafe way that changes your curl pattern significantly or causes breakage that will any change in your curl pattern is going to change the shape of the haircut rikes. It'S not gon na change. The curl pattern in the same Auld over usually same thing with heat heat, will change your curl pattern and that will affect your haircut. I once had a client go 18 months with her haircut still looking amazing, and then it was. She was going to a New Year's party. She straightened it one time and she must have touched up the top too many times with the Flatiron and boom. Her top layer got super stretched out and suddenly it was a triangle and then she needed to be reshaped, but for 18 whole months before she decided to use that heat. The haircut was still looking good and she could have gone much much much longer and just already had hair like here by now. But the thing is she came in and because she only damaged the top a lot. I caPSURE length and I mostly worked in the layers so being able to find a stylist. I know that you can like see that they understand that sort of thing, and also retraining, like your brain, to not think that your stylist has to cut all of your hair in order for it to be a haircut that you should pay for like we have To retrain the way that we think about haircuts, because if you are looking to grow your hair long, you want to get there as quickly as possible, so trust your stylist. If you have split ends, that means that they look bad then they do not travel up. Your hair strand, but if they look bad, cut them off and then use good home care to not get more split ends. The only reason that you're gon na see a split end get higher is, if, whatever you're doing to your hair, that caused that split end. If you continue to do that, if you continue to do that, then you will have more of the hair that is split, but it's the action, the behavior of what you're doing to your hair. That makes that split, end become more split end. It'S a larger amount of split end on the hair strand is not the split in and just growing and increasing. If you go from, if you have split ends - and you go from like brushing your hair to no longer brushing your hair and brushing your hairs, what was causing or combing your hair was what was causing the split end. That'S lit end amount. It'S gon na stay. The same, but you should share mitt off because it'll look a nicer if you want to or don't just throw it out and keep your split ends and get your length and then get a haircut whatever you want. Don'T let anybody tell you that you have to cut your hair, you don't have to cut it, that's a choice, that's your choice and no one's, but no one's, but yours. So I'm planning on teaching around the world. It'S gon na happen. I'M hoping 2020 is the year of like 2020 vision, I'm seeing it. I'M gon na go everywhere and I'm gon na teach more stylist how to cut curly hair wavy hair natural hair in the way that it should be cut so that people can reach their hair hair goals. Okay, alright, so I just needed to put that out. There remember good at-home practices of caring, for your hair is how your haircut is going to last the longest so not combing or brushing your hair, not using heat, not using color. You know finger detangling everything, gentle gentle, gentle, nothing too. A lot change your curl pattern and also nothing to cause breakage. That'S the key to growing your hair, long with no BS at all, and I hope that it helps somebody if it helps at least one person. Then it's worth whoever I just pissed off love. You guys have a good one I'll talk to you soon hit subscribe. If you want to learn more real, true, no BS information about your hair. Coming from someone who truly cares about you love you guys bye,

Emmy Emmy: "Don't let anyone tell you you have to cut your hair. You don't have to cut it, that's a choice. That's your choice." I needed to hear this so badly! Thank you! I have been pressured and shamed into getting haircuts as if I am doing something wrong or going to ruin my hair if I don't.

Andrea Day: This confirms what I had suspected! When I was too busy to get my hair done (like for several months after my kids were born) my hair grew like crazy! When I would go for regular trims, it just kept getting shorter and shorter. Thanks for your honesty!

lincoln hampshire: When I got my first devacut, I asked the stylist when I needed to come back and she said 6 months. That was super cool to hear bc all the other cuts I’ve gotten at regular salons say 6-8 weeks. I always thought that was bs.

ocandro: It's remarkable how long your hair has grown in a year, especially with how tight it is and with lightening! As for the split ends, my hair is so fine that it's impossible to see them, unless with magnifying glass, so I was never worried Other than avoiding damage and breakage, my hair grows extremely fast, despite my health problems, because I take quality supplements and thats my advice to everybody. Just look at the ingredients and check the type (salt) of vitamin X or mineral Y in the back, for example something will be absorbed twice as much when it's gluconate than chloride etc, so you get your money's worth, somethibg like Solgar, Swanson, Doctors Best etc. It's impossible to have all necessary nutrients from food alone, no matter how hard we try and studies prove that.

Leslie Ball: When I told my old stylist I wanted to grow my hair out, she told me I’d need to cut it every 6-8 weeks. I answered, “You expect me to buy that?” But the thing is, people do! Even though it doesn’t make sense. I have a great stylist now. I see her about twice a year for shaping. I always say, “see you in about 6 months, unless you saw some breakage or something today that makes you think I should be back sooner.” So far she has never said I needed to. That’s how I know she has integrity, and why she gets a dang good tip. That kind of customer service is worth the extra cash!

Sal R: There needs to be more stylists like you

alley209m: Stephanie, thank you for continuing to educate us. This is truly your calling and you are truly a blessing to me. I'm praying that God will continue to bless you because He is definitely blessing us through you. Scheduling an appointment with you is on the top of my bucket list. Until I can make that happen, please put Lafayette, LA on your list of places to visit to teach these local stylists how to properly care for curly hair. I believe God will continue to do great things through you! I love you, stay blessed and I hope you see you soon!!!

Carissa Carnes: Yes girl!! As always much love and keep the truth coming!! My hair was waist length because my mom never cut it!

D Curly: Facts! Preach Stephanie!!! Thanks for your total honesty. Love what you are teaching us!

Dariana Lawrence: My curly hair goddess! Thank you for sharing your knowledge AND caring about people. I have an issue with my curly hair splitting down mid shaft and getting fair knots. Any idea what will be causing this?!

SarahlabyrinthLHC: Someone once asked me how to grow hair long. I said "If you want your lawn in the garden long, what do you do?" They said "Just don't cut it." I said "So how do you get your hair long?" They said "Oh...." and looked sheepish. :) Finally someone is speaking sense about hair!

Kristina: Love this video! I cut my hair every couple months only because it grows so fast that I have to keep up with it so it stays the same length. Every once in a while I let it get super long. Just like every once in a while I cut it shorter. I keep it longer, between lower back and bra length.

Annabella G.: Thanks! I really needed to hear this! Before I decided to embrace and take care of my curls I was getting my hair cut every 3-4 weeks to keep the shape and thin it out! I know, I know! I didn’t know what to do with my curly hair so it was easier to straighten it and debunk it. I really have only had curly hair about 10 years. My last haircut was in September 2018. It’s funny you mentioned all the misconceptions about keeping hair healthy. I’ve been thinking that maybe I should cut it for no other reason than it’s been so long since the last time! I am transitioning to gray so still coloring it for now going lighter but my hair is getting super long and I have even noticed a lot of new growth at the temples! Thank you thank you!

Sarah Lynn: You were on fire in this video! Love your energetic passion!! Thank you for sharing, I needed to hear this!

So Many Stitches: Hello Curl Ninja! Thank you for being a badass hair stylist and for all of your helpful advice. I have just found your channel and in just a couple of days I have learned so much. I'm so grateful, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Laura Walsh: I really appreciate your honesty and frankness. I have been trying to do the curly girl method for some time and have found that your advice has been the best! I have wavy hair with some actual curls interspersed so it is truly a combination ranging between 2b to 3a open wave, coarse but soft, mixed porosity, caucasian hair. I became frustrated about 6 months ago and got a root wave to help it look more full and bouncy. I have found that the combination of the gentle root wave as well as taking your advice, using fewer - but high quality products - that work for my specific hair, I have been able to maintain an easy, and attractive style without all of the hassle of going through the one million steps of the actual curly girl method. Also my hair is so much healthier now. I receive compliments on it all the time. Of course, I let them know about your tutorials because I believe my results are directly correlated to these great, informative videos. TY! :-)

Lee Trader: Ok... so I got my big chop last April and I’m 50.... yesterday I finally got a real shaping... honestly the girl wasn’t a curly hair specialist ... there are none in my area, however she listens to what I want her to do... told her I didn’t want to lose any length, AND to shape my hair without using those texture shears.... she did exactly what I asked and omg I love it! My hair is just about to the middle of my back, but with shrinkage it comes to my shoulder.... but anyway .... I wish I could get her to watch your advise on how to cut curly hair as I tried to relay all of your language... thank god it worked... maybe it’s that simple ... if your stylist isn’t a curly hair specialist as long as she listens to what you want all will be fine... she worked in the already existing layers and again fir the first time I love it, and fir the first time I can see when it grows out this time it’s just going to get better from here.... once again thanks Stephanie ....

Jes Fields: MYTH BUSTER! I love love LOVE this - thank you for all your knowledge bombs & positivity! If you need local clients for your 2020 vision travels.... hit me up!

LadyJessG: You’re the real deal. ❤️❤️ Thank you.

cuttlebird: I love you, this makes SO MUCH SENSE!!! Thank you so so so much for this.

Melissa: I remember growing up my mom used to tell me that if the wrong hairstylist trims your hair it could affect your growth by either flourishing or not grow at all. Not sure if that is true but I love your info!!

MeOhMy: 4:59 was the reason I was told I needed regular haircuts to help my hair grow faster. The split ends traveling up then breaking off.

Erikajulianna115: Please come to Puerto Rico! Here we have stylists with a lack of knowledge on how to work with natural hair!

Deborah Martin: I discovered not getting my hair cut the hard way. I had shortish hair in my 20's then i stpped haircuts in my 30's and ended up with long hair. My hair changed in my 40's and ended up with ridiculous frizz. Got a pixie cut that was a bad idea because it looked even worse because i coukd not tie it back to control the frizz. I now have a short bob that i am growing to my shoulders but it is still the shape of the pixie cut. At keast i can tie it back now. I am looking forward to having nice waves in my wavy hair in my 50's. Thank you Stephanie for helping my to like my wavy hair.

Margaret Gross: Thank you again for being honest! Keep it coming!!

Carmen Rivera: That’s very true , i go twice a year to cut my ends and that’s enough since I don’t use heat tools. Thanks for this video

Brennon Toomepuu: Thank you so much for making these videos!

Jessie 47: Very informative.. Thank you!!

Ruby Moorman: Tell it all like it is, so wonderful to hear the truth, as I still have not gotten a haircut, but I don't see any split ends, but I don't use curling irons, not even a hair diffuser & I try to be very gentle with my hair & it's getting nice & soft, BIG smiles... I also drink 1 scoop of Collagen everyday in my fresh homemade Lemon/ade with Organic Aloe Vera, Cinnamon, Turmeric, Ginger, Pink Himalayan sea salt & I add my raw honey & I watch my diet, once in a while I do treat myself, but is what it is & hey I have a craving at times... My caregiver actually makes me fresh granola cereal & adds all kinds of healthy fruits, oats, nuts, coconut pieces, dark chocolate etc.! But I add a TABLEspoon of my made up mixture of Org. Coconut oil, Raw honey & Cinnamon in a BIG container & I mix this into my morning Granola & I'm in heaven... Better STOP b4 this becomes anutter/another novel, blushing. Loves, hugs & THANK YOU...

Leilani Giselle: i love my curly hair so much but there are times where i do want to switch up my entire look and straighten it! i went 7 months w out heat and this past weekend i straightened my hair for a graduation i went to, i made sure to use a heat protectant and i blow dried it 99% straight then went in w a flat iron to get rid of any frizz, i only wore it straight for a day bc the florida heat wouldn’t allow me any other days but after watching this i am kinda scared! what steps should i be taking on those days where i do want to straighten my hair! i know we cancelled straightening our curls everyday but is once in a while wrong too ?

Eve: This is just what I needed to hear. <3 Thank you so much.

Pamela Walker: One salon mentioned to get a trim every 3 to 4 months to control the split ends. When I was younger my mom never trim my hair and my hair was long before my mom had a beautician ro relax my hair at the age of 10. I am keeping my hair very moisturized to prevent spilt ends as I am a type 4a,4b hair. I only do wash n go

PittyMom: Preach!!! Love it, thank you for all your Info.

Freckle Backstop: I have to admit, I’ve been kind of a troll in social media lately. Anything deva curl, if I see people on there asking others if deva is making their hair dry, brittle, hair loss etc...I’ve been referring them to your channel.

Lady C: Thanks for your honesty

Brittany Ferguson: I have super tight curls so I only need to trim my hair every 4-6 months. I would probably go twice a year.

teeswaran: What a great video! Thank you!

Kristina: When people down-vote videos, it helps boost your video. Up votes or down votes, they both boost your video. So people that down vote videos are actually helping your video to get circulated more. Comments work the same way, positive or negative they all help boost the video!

CurlyV SeedStar: I love you and your videos but please this video was the perfect length some are too longkeep up the good work. Thank you for everything☺ you are so honest don't ever change ✌

Jazzmizzle: I've cried multiple times today because of the haircut I got yesterday.. stylists always get scissor happy and cut off way more than I want and traumatize me.

TJ Radway: I love your hair growing video ❤️❤️

Joanna Eldredge: WOW!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Savannah Smith: THANK YOU MY INTUITION THOUGHT THIS! You the best

Yvette Shelton: Makes sense and thank you.

Nonna Rodgers: Hi from Scotland you are teaching so much thank you

Gloria Naparano: Truth and knowledge !!!

Felicia Slattery: Do you have any videos about how to get started properly taking care of 2b-ish, high porosity (I guess??) wavy hair? I've watched dozens of videos before I found you, spent a good bit of money on a ton of different products, and was about to go do a deep conditioning treatment to kick off the process... and now I'm confused! LOL And darn it, I was in Orlando all last week. I could have come to you then!

kari: i have stringy curls now from straightening it so i was thinking doing a big chop so i can re grow my curls even though its getting long

Sarah Eubanks: You. Are. Amazing!!

Constance J: Would you please address coloring/highlighting curly hair safely? My natural color is dark dirty blonde blah. I love highlights and dimension but I know bleach causes a change in my curl pattern and breakage. It is the only bad thing I do to my hair now but don’t want to go all natural because it’s boring.

NaturallyJennRose21: If you come to AZ please please let me know. I have struggled to find someone out here to cut my hair. I absolutely love that you said and stand by you don’t have to cut all your hair to have a great hair cut. I wish I had found your content much sooner in life! I’m here now though.

M J: ♥️♥️♥️ Super love this video♥️♥️

VERONICA GLOVER: I have to color my hair because I dont want to be gray :( is henna better to retain length? if so how often can I do it without damaging my hair?

luv2dance: But if your hair is damaged won't it break off and get shorter that way?

Andrea M: MIND BLOWN!

Todoslosdiashappy #: Thank you

Fatima Hamade: I’d love to meet you come to ottawaaaaaa

Cheesus Cruzt: my hair doesn't grow past my shoulders no matter what i do. RIP

ThinkFirstable: Do you have a perm or are those your natural curls? Either way your hair is cool.

AsheCatsup 💋: I just did not know how closed minded people are to what you are saying. I’ve been trying to find products that won’t just flat out stop working, won’t just dry my hair out, give me definition. Products I can uss consistently, through any condition. It’s really like people insist on using a rotation of products for different hair feelings. Not stylers—no. Shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioners, leave-ins. Shampoos for this, shampoo for that. I remember in your video about why products stop working, it was basically like—you don’t need all that. Where people (I see) get so pissed off is when you (not you specific) say...”Hey. Here’s a thought. Maybe those products aren’t actually working and you are trying to compensate for products that don’t work for your hair by using more products that don’t work.” They get extremely offended *rawr* “I know my hair how dare you!” *rawr*

Alexandria Jones: Where are you? Who are you ? Please do my hair
