AMBER COBRA HOPSON gives advice to upcoming hairstylists on how to become a great hair stylist assistant. HAIR ESCAPADES 15125 VENTURA BLVD #103 SHERMAN OAKS, CA 91423

Good morning, the morning this is Amber, your master hairstylist coming to you live from Sherman Oaks. California. What I would like to discuss today is the role of an assistant, a hair, stylist assistant, a lot of students who are coming straight on a cosmetology school. They first go to be an assistant. You know to build their skills to learn practice. You know all those good things to become an effective professional hair, stylist, just some advice, an assistant where you're going in for a job to work for a hair. Stop you don't want to just be an assistant and not learn things. Sometimes some hair stylist. They can be greedy with their knowledge and information, and that's never good you how you get blessed if you're, not if you're holding in information. I was blessed enough to have the lead. I was an assistant to her and that's why I'm such a good weave, ologist professionally Weaver, because she always gave me the information like she would you know. Let me look at her. Do the work you know I was. She was ten, oh probably sharing the knowledge and that's the first thing. As a hair, stylist assistant, you want to be able to get with someone. You know that you can learn from you know what I mean you need to work for a hair stylist. That'S also patient because it can get really crazy in the salon. You know what I mean and you have to be on it. You know what I mean. The requirements I have for my assistant is that you have to dress appropriate, don't come in here. Wear a sandal, some booty shorts are just even looking grimy. You know what I mean like you have to look crisp, clean and polished. You have to look professional because you're representing the salon you're representing that hair stylist, you know just because you're an assistant that I mean you just dress any kind of way. You know what I mean cause like. I said this is just a stepping stone to going to the next level. Now we got that out the way. Of course, your hygiene needs to be up to par. That goes along with your dressing. You have to know how to follow directions effectively, don't be out. Partying all night and you come to the salon sluggish and you can't perform to the best of your ability. That'S not gon na work, especially in masala. So you have to be upbeat. You have to have a great personality, you know, don't be, don't don't talk too much. You know just kind of just do your job. You know what I mean. Also an important thing is being on time be on time. Please cuz. You grew up the hairstylist schedule. Your hairstylist needs to be able to get in touch with you at a timely fashion. So if she calls you at 1 o'clock to come into the salon like on a Saturday or something you better be able to call her back within 30 minutes, the hairstylist schedules the appointments according to having an assistant. You know what I mean, so you have to be on point man, you know what I mean you have to work hard. You can't be lazy, you know and, like I said, you're not gon na make a whole lot of money, but the whole point of being an assistant is getting the knowledge getting that practice and you want to be able to learn from that hairstyle. That'S the most important thing, so these are just a few tips. Of course I have way more information, but I just kind of want to give some advice to up-and-coming hairstylist. You know. New new booties in the game is what I say and good luck to you. All going into a new year, it's almost 2013, I'm on my way to the bank. Make me some deposits and I have to go and make turns some clients from drag

Alexis Lockett: Love this video! I became a license Cosmo in 2017 and while in school I took a separate class and became a certified Loctician. And after graduating, doing locs became my specialty. But I will be starting a new job tomorrow as a Salon Assistant and I am excited to learn and expand in this industry! Definitely setting my intentions and manifestations tonight to be ready for tomorrow!

rose kemp: Having been in Human Resources for 20+ years, I would suggest that when you are interviewing for that Stylist Assistant position, you tell them you are interested in LEARNING and EXPANDING on your current knowledge base. You might get an indication of how open that person is to teaching and mentoring you.

Shoshana Pollack: that happened to me. went to cosmetolgy school, getmy liscense and went straight into the salon. the lady i worked for didnt want to teach anything. i wasnt a good cutter and i told her that, and she just MADE me cut someones hair and it was messed up bad. so i think if she would have taken the time to show me, and give pointers on how to perfect the craft i would have been alot better. I miss doing hair but had to leave it. but i love your work!
