Today, I'm doing an updated How I Get Beachy Waves using a curling iron instead of a flat iron. And today I'll be using the Kristin Ess. This is her one inch titanium-plated curling iron with a clip. That'S a difference., A curling iron had a clip. A curling wand would be just this without the clip.. So, let's see the before and let's jump into it., I'm going to split my hair right above my ears to have this section right here.. I don't really worry about the lowest hair on the bottom, just because you won't really see it and it's shorter than the rest of my hair. So I don't like to spend too much time on it. For the hair clips that I like to use. These are by T3.. They sent me a package over last year and I've been using them since they're just good.. Another option is Amazon. I have a bunch from Amazon as well., And then this hairbrush, you guys always ask what this is.. This is the Tangle Teezer. Their Ultimate Finisher. I like to split my hair right in the middle in the back and bring as much of it as I can forward.. It does not have to be perfect, but this is where I start and I curl the hair from the back to the front.. This is giving me a little bit more confidence in myself that I get most of the hair, curled and styled.. So, instead of going from the front to the back, I go from the back to the front.. So then this like I said I don't really worry too much about the bottom.. I'M not gon na clip all the hair towards the bottom. I'M gon na leave a bunch of it. Out. Give a little twist hold it there., And then I'm gon na do a little twist underneath and I'm gon na. Take the clip unclip it just a little bit. And then kind of give this little twist again. And then kind of bring it down and back up twist and then very slowly drag the bottom ends, while holding the clip open. Just a tiny bit.. You see how it's not really, that kind of a curly, curl or curly wave that you get with the curling iron, It's more straight and it elongates the hair. Kinda mimics a flat iron. That'S how I like to do my hair with a curling iron. And I feel, like a lot of people, will like and enjoy this better than a flat iron. Just because you don't have to twist your wrist a lot. You mostly twist just the tool.. So again do the same thing. Do only the top leaving most of the hair out. Hold it there for eight to 10 seconds, maybe less, depending on how thick coarse, how high your heat, is. Untwist it well, not untwist it, but twist out down., I'm gon na Bring it over., Bring it up and then untwist. And then drag it down very, very gently making sure you open the clip up just a little bit. So it's not ripping your hair out. And with this hair, I'm going away from my face. If you're gon na go towards your face, it's the same exact thing.. So let's say I'm going away from my face, but you're gon na twist towards your face. It'S gon na be wrong, so let me quickly show you that.. So let's do that, but I'm gon na twist. See it's not even gon na. Let you twist towards your face. You're, always gon na wan na twist away., Just like that. One more time and I usually do two times usually on the shorter hair. Just because there's not much else to twist. ( chuckling ), It's kind of a self-explanatory thing.. It will force you to go only a certain direction. So with this. If I try to go the other way, it's not gon na, let me. So underneath bring it up just a tiny bit like halfway. And then untwist and drag it down.. So you guys see the difference. It kinda elongates the hair, but you get a lot of wave out of that section, even though the section is short. Same thing on this side. I'll be going away. And I do believe a lot of this has to do with the type of curling iron that You use., You want something, that's a lot more gentler on your hair. And that's why I like Kristen Ess., It's just a very straight to the point: curling iron titanium plates, it's very even heating, on your hair and you can really use the clip to your advantage.. I personally don't like clips that are very hard to open. A lot of curling irons. The clip is very hard to control to your advantage, so I really like curling irons that work with you not against you., Usually for this I'll, just stick with three major sections.. The bottom, the middle and then the top. Same thing split it in the back. And then just bring your hair towards the front. And I always make sure to brush it through before I go in and style it., So the longer hair, the more hair you leave Out out of the curling iron, the straighter the ends will be.. If you don't want such straight ends just bring most of your hair into the curling iron. Curling. My hair, like this, is one of the easiest and the fastest and the most results I can get just because I can really manipulate the curling iron to my need. If I want super beachy super straight ends, I can get them and if I don't, I can just basically not do any twists and just leave it in the hair and just let it out.. So if you guys wan na see what that looks like a difference with not twisting ... The curling iron, let me quickly show you. I'll do a closer section to the front., So these curls, I wouldn't say, they're, better or worse than flat, irons. It just depends how much heat you put in your hair? How many twists you do, how long you hold it on the curling iron just because, with the flat iron, the plates are literally on your hair.. So this right here, some of your hair is not covered with the other plate., With a flat iron. Your hair is covered from side to side., With the curling iron. Only one side is covered with the plate. Sometimes., Sometimes a section can be covered, but I think you understand what I'm saying. All right. So let me quickly show you how I would do it if I wouldn't twist my hair., So I'm still gon na leave some hair out just because I don't really like the super curly ends., I'm gon na show you the difference., So instead of twisting or making The hair go long kind of like as a flat iron, I'm just gon na, let it out.. So you see the difference. It'S more there's more of a wave instead of the hair going down and it elongates the curl.. This has more of like a barrel effect. With this. I can't really put my finger through just because it's a lot longer and it's a more stretched out kind of like with a flat iron., But with this it's just ..., It's not ugly, but I prefer it. The other way. Like this doesn't look like a beachy wave for me. Personally., A beachy wave is longer it's a little bit tighter. And again, when you're pulling the ends through make sure you always have a tiny little gap. Open., That's why I say a good curling iron is gon na make a world of a difference for you and it's gon na make it either .... It'S gon na work against you or it's gon, na work for you. A little twist underneath. A little twist, and then let go a little bit and pull through., I'm just gon na. Let the hair hang out., And now we have the last section, which is the top section. And again I'm gon na split it in the back, bring it forward and brush it. Through. Very simple, and you can also do this with a bigger curling barrel.. You can do 1.25 inches that one's actually really nice. They're, not gon na, be as tight curls, which is totally fine., But I just wan na show you guys a little bit of a tighter curl that you can mimic a flat iron.. So this is what I was saying. With the flat iron. This hair would be covered with the plate, so you see this little section's only covered with the plate., So this is not getting as much heat as a curling iron or flat iron, not a curling iron flat iron.. So, with this top section, I'm not taking in all the hair all the way through I'm leaving a good four inches out. And I'm just kinda, focusing on the top. And I'll unwind, the first section and then bring it down, leaving a good inch out and then Winding it back up to about halfway., But you see the curl right here, That's from the little twist that you do. One more twist, and then you can even do one more twist. And then just bring it. Down. Like you can really go, have fun with this.. You can do only one twist., You can do five twists. You can do a lot of twists depending how thick your barrel is how long your hair is, or just basically how many twists you want., And this is a really good technique. If you have very very long hair., This is, I personally think it's a lot easier than with a flat iron. Nice front pieces look even. And if you're wondering I have my curling iron set at 365 Fahrenheit.. So now I usually just kind of let my hair chill do its thing. Let it really settle, really release the heat cool off and then I go in either with a texture spray, maybe a little bit of a light hairspray.. If I need a little bit more moisture in my hair, I'll use a dry conditioner. If I need to absorb the extra oils I'll go in with a dry shampoo, but today my hair feels pretty good. I just want a little bit of texture in my hair. Just because it is very silky and it's smooth, I kinda wan na break it apart a little bit using texture, spray. And I'll be using Living Proof. Their Body Builder., (, spraying ) I'll, usually spray towards the bottom. Pick up my hair and spray underneath. And then using my fingers just kinda, starting from the bottom in the back through gently shaking it, the hair out and just kind of using my fingers as little Finger combs., (, chuckling, ) And then I'll go in and add it to the top of my head. If I feel like, I need to add a little bit more body towards the top., I'm just gon na break it apart. And that completes the look you guys.. I just love that you can create this with a curling iron, where it's usually with the curling iron. They look more of like they're, very bouncy. You can't really get such a defined type of curl. They're, more gon na be of a wave. And they're gon na fall out very bouncy, which is beautiful. I love that type of look, but when I want a beachy look, I really wan na see those really individual types of waves or curls in the hair kind of like as if you would, with a braid.. You know you braid your hair at the beach. You take it out and then that salty watery kind of dries in your hair and it creates those really beautiful, kinks and waves and curls in your hair.. I just love that type of look, and especially the straighter ends.. Not all of them are straight, just some of them are a little bendy. Some of them are straighter, some of them are going underneath. Some of them are going out. That'S what I like with this look.. You can really. You can really have fun with it and use a curling iron to your advantage., Even though I love flat iron beach waves. I think they're stunning I feel like this is very versatile, especially for short, hair, medium hair, long hair. It'S very, very great.. I like it because you have the curling, you have ..., You have the clip doing most of your work for you, which is great, and you can use different types of barrel sizes to get different types of looks, which I really appreciate.. So if you have longer hair go for a longer a thicker barrel as well, they have extra long barrels with long hair and then do like a 1.25 inch, maybe even a 1.5 inch. If you want really like those loose beachy waves.. But if you want something a little bit tighter and something that you can really see and they will last beautifully and they will fall out, really nicely go for a one inch.. I think this is a great kind of medium. Yeah. I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial.. I kinda wanted to give my tips along the way.. Let me know: what's your favorite way to curl your hair curling iron? Is it one of those bed wavers? That'S so popular nowadays.. Is it heatless waves? Is it a braid? Is it a flat iron? Let me know, but so far I don't know the last time I reached for my flat iron., I feel like it was half a year ago, ( laughing ) to really create those loose waves for those kind of everyday type of curls. That I've been doing off of camera, I've been really reaching for the curling iron for some reason.. Let me know what you guys think of this look.. Thank you for spending time with me and my curling iron. And I'll see the next one very soon. Bye,

Real Life with Robbie: I absolutely love this technique! I’m 53 years old with long hair and I struggle sometimes with the new styles. I’m from the perm era. I tried this this morning and love it! I love how my hair frames my face. It was fast and easy. Usually when I curl my hair it comes out really big which I don’t mind sometimes but there are times I like a more relaxed look. This is it! Thank you so much! I’ve learned so much from you!❤️

Ishee: This is always how my hairstylist does my hair after I get it cut or colored, and I've never been able to do it on myself until I watched this video! This is exactly the look I was going for, and still looked so good even with my crappy curling iron. Thank you for sharing!!!

Beth Mitchell: I have had the hardest time using a straightener to get waves. This tutorial was amazing! I was able to get great waves right off the bat!

Kim Gossling: I was skeptical that this technique would really do anything different than how I usually curl my hair but I tried it today and it really does make a difference. Adding that unwind-twist action really does give a different shape and texture to the curls. Love it!

Mandee•ying yang Rose Zen: I can’t wait to try this technique out tomorrow!!! Looks so easy and works great!!!! I always end up giving myself that crimp in my curl somehow

T Donithan: This is the first time I’ve been able to replicate the beach waves following your technique! Thank you so much for posting. Well done!

Holly Jayne: A tutorial that I was finally able to replicate the results. THANK YOU! I still need practice, but I followed this exactly and people asked if I had been to the salon that day because my hair looked so good ❤️

Tanja Bastigkeit: I'm jealous, that you can part your hair so easily. My hair is complicated. One single hair is straight, one single is curly, one is wavy. And so on. Styling is nerve-racking for me.

Megan Ake: Thank you, thank you!!! I have struggled so much with the straightener... you have no idea. I literally CANT do it. This was so easy and helped me SO much. This has made my life so much easier!! I have almost the same length hair as you so this was perfect for me. THANK YOU!

Abra Oeser: I tried this, and love how it turned out!! Thanks for the idea

Mariah Herlihy: I just tried this on my long hair and it turned out great! Thanks for your tips!! It was so easy thanks to you!

JenniferLee Hendrixson: I discovered “curling” my hair like this, this past summer. It’s super fast stays well in my hair and looks sooo cute!

songbanana8: Tried this on my medium length hair and I can’t believe how good it came out! I did way chunkier sections and it still came out beautifully!! The key is that twist and leaving the ends straight

muzik genyus: I tried this technique and was finally successful!! I’ve never been able to get this look with a wand or a flat iron... it’s always just way too complicated for me. But for whatever, this video made total sense to me. And I was able to curl my hair this morning and I absolutely LOVE it! I think this is going to be my new go-to curling style! Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️

Julie Siems: Thank you for this! I’ve been having issues with figuring how to style my new short hair cut. This technique is easier than I thought it would be, and my hair looks great!

Amy Buckels: Thank you Thank you Thank you for this tutorial!! This technique got me the exact result I was trying to get!

Alison Brooks: @milabu I need to thank you for posting this; you haved saved me from spending more time AND money on seeking the perfect beachy wave! Absolute GAME CHANGER!! I have super fine hair that does not hold a curl for anything since I was about 20 years old 17yrs ago! Who knew I could achieve such great results using my old ass curling iron! 48 hours later, I STILL have a loose wave! I did use some BIG SEXY HAIR VOLUME gel (not much) before I used the blowdryer. THANK YOU a billion and one times! I wish you could know exactly how grateful I am. I know, "first world problems" - but I've done so much to my hair over the last 17 years...EVERY type of hair extension (thought length and/or volume would increase odds of beautiful beach waves, 30 waving/styling/braiding/heatless curlers/hot rollers/curling gadgets, at LEAST $20,000.00 (sadly, that's 100% true), and all along it was the $10 twenty-year-old curling iron in the storage bin, in the attic. Hats off to YOU!!!!

Verena W.: This looks really nice!!

Tamara Mainardi: Love your hair tutorials! Sometimes I can get such a nice wave but other times not so much. This tool seems like a good one!

Sara Daher: I’ve been curling my hair with my nume t3. I usually use the one inch barrel. I make barrel curls and then break them up and shake them out. They drop a little right away and I love how they turn out.

Jena Meagher: You are SO HELPFUL. Demonstrating this is exactly what I need. I’m scared of curling irons, and the one I bought is in the back of a drawer. But you’ve given me some confidence! I’m going to try. Bless your sweet heart.

Plant lover: I’m 31 and I finally learned how to keep a curl in my hair wow. Thanks so much!

Destiny Lancaster: I saw you do this in another video and loved the way it looked and I tried it the other day and my fiancé said he loved my hair I was military for 5 years and I use to be awesome at styling my hair and after I got out I just couldn’t remember what to do or what to do your tutorials save me from just throwing my hair in a slicked back ponytail everyday lol so thanks

Christian M: I love the look! I get a similar effect by french braiding my damp hair into pigtails and sleeping overnight.

Courtni Mae: You make me want shorter hair again! Love this video and your channel! ❤

Jessica Regitz: This was a great technique! Used it today and love the results!

Emma_does_nails_and_ beauty: Thank you for explaining this so well

Julie Colleran: Thank you so much for this tutorial! I’m growing out my layers and can’t wait to have more of a one length style. The Kristin Ess 1 inch is the BEST on the market in my opinion! I purchased a flat iron and gave it a good try, but it took forever and I didn’t care for the look.

Marcia Ann: You do such a great job! I tried my hair for the first time today. Ill send a before and after

Shannon: I LOVE this, cant wait to try it out!!!! If you want a side part would you recommend before you curl or after?

scrapygirl1: Thanks for your tutorial ! I've watch other tutorial's, you make it look less complicated. Can't wait to try.

shimusan: THank you sooo much for this tutorial. I really appreciate that you showed your technique more slowly so that we can see exactly how you're twisting while curling. So many other tutorials don't show that part!

LISA ANDREWS-GARCIA: This was awesome. Thank you so much! I tried to do this this morning and it was a disaster!

Isabel Diaz: I absolutely love this thank you

Natalie Duttonx: This is such a cute hairstyle! Deffo gonna try this out before school starts back up again!

Kelly Libengood: Hi! I'm not sure whether it was this video is another of yours, but your method of unwinding to retain the twist and then winding the twist has worked out well for me. A subtle and natural yet tight wave that takes very little time to create (especially if I take larger sections) is becoming my go-to modification to how I'd been curling before. Thank you for sharing!

Linda Tannock: Really helpful tutorial! Thanks!

Rodrigo: Im a boy and I’m trying to do this with my long hair. You girls are talented

joonbun7 ⟭⟬: I cut off over 12 inches of my hair. I’m so thankful for your videos they’re so helpful

Raven Carlton: I’m trying this tomorrow! My hair is a few inches past my shoulder but I just trimmed it to be blunt and even. It’ll look great with the beach wavy look! Thank you for this video!
