How To Curl Short Hair For Vintage Hairstyles

This video is about how to curl your short hair for vintage style hairstyles. Do you want Marilyn Monroe's hair, victory rolls, bumper bangs or other retro vintage hairstyles? This easy to follow tutorial will give you the foundation for curling your hair for any retro look you want that involves short hair.

The curling techniques in this tutorial follows the same idea as a roller set but uses a flat iron to get the same look. With a roller set you dry short wet hair over rollers by heat and then let the hair cool in the rollers. With this technique you curl your hair with the flatiron to heat the hair and then set the curls by letting them sit in the rolls you've created to cool down. You will learn how to curl short hair and set it in special roll shapes which will help to achieve a tighter longer laster curl that is the base for all vintage hairstyles. Back when these styles were created the roller set ruled but now we have the flatiron to help us! This style is best done with hair no longer than your shoulders, as any longer than that and your hair will weigh down the style. This is meant for short hair.

I hope you enjoy this short hair tutorial and have fun experimenting with all the new hairstyles you can create!

Laura LP Hair

Hey everybody. My name is lauren from my video today, i'm going to show you how you can curl your hair to prepare it for any vintage old, retro style that you want to do so. This is using a flat iron to basically give yourself a roller set. So that you can do these styles, so anyway, i've already done most of it, i'm going to show you how i did it and then i'm going to continue on doing the top. So you can see the technique. So what you need to do is start at the bottom at the nape of your neck here. So what you're going to do is ride your finger along and clip up all of your hair, except about this much on the bottom and then you're going to curl. This side, and then this side, so with your flat iron you'll, be behind your head like this and curl below you know one side and then curl the other side then take your hair. That'S clipped up, make yourself another little section again. This way in this way moving up your head. Now I took sections about this big. My hair is not very thick, so you just need to gauge it like if you find that it's too thick, it seems like too much hair then do a smaller section. So, but anyway, going up and leave your curls in the set okay, you want them to stay in this kind of Roller set. Look that you have going on same with the sides, so you can see. I only did two section for the side and then continue on so now that I'm at the top, what I'm going to do is show you how I did the curls. So here we go so you're going to take your section, nice and wide like this, and I'm going to curl this back. So all these are going the same direction. That way I can manipulate them and move them around like exactly how I want to okay. So, starting at the bottom, I'm going to roll and now don't let this slip out the edge now once you've got to fit where I am. The hair is going to start like giving a lot of tension around your flat iron. So you just need to with your hands slightly open and close a flat iron just so that your hair is not getting caught on it and then, when all of the hair is through, you should just be able to pull it out. Just like that and you're going to have a roll and you're going to leave it and then go on to the next, so I'm going to do two of these back and then I'm going to do the rest forward. So again, like this, keep it close to your head and, what's good, is to have like some elevation with this, so you can see how the hair is going straight up like that same thing, for the back and the sides you want to like elevate the hair Up like this, that way, you're going to get the most volume with it, which is like what you want to do, because this down will help you with retro style. But it's also she's going to give you nice curls, with a lot of volume so like this. Is kind of nice if you want to look like you put a lot of effort into your hair when really didn't, because this only takes like five, maybe ten minutes to do um, then you can just throw it in a ponytail and it's gon na look like Really nice, it's just gon na have this like kind of like I just like casually jumped out of bed, and I just like really look good. So that's really good see that so I should be seamlessly be able to pull it out and then my last section here so one thing, though problems, my hair is got all these dreadlocks here, I'm just kind of just regard them and please just look past them As I do the rest of this style, alright, so there we go, everything is curled into my nice little Roller set that I have here and I'm gon na. Let it cool down, and now from here I can just manipulate my hair to make it do anything. This is your foundation right here for me, but you can do anything. So let's say I'm just going to show you the side here. So I'm going to brush this out. So okay, I've got a straight chunk there, but I can flip it out that way. If I want, I can make my curls go back into that, so, as you can see with these curls, I can hoop them together or I can do anything separately. So I'm just going to brush this all up now, so I've already got lots of product in here. You can hairspray it at this point if you want to or if you've already got lots in beforehand. That'S good too! So! Okay, here see that look at that nice curl that I got there. It'S just doing nice little thing there, but I can manipulate it. I can pull it back. Let me show you okay, so I'm going to use my hand to make my hair all flip out back here. Okay, how does that look there? I'Ve got a nice straight top with a nice flipped out set-asides here. This is just kind of like a nice old style here I can do that there. Alright, let's say if I want to do a bumper bang, which is my video I did last week. I can take all this brush it forwards and let this all roll under here and I can get myself a nice bumper, bang there or say. If I grab all of this hair here, maybe a little bit yeah. I can see this by combing it and using my hands, I'm able to group all of my curls together and I can make myself a nice roll there see. So I can have that kind of cool thing like that. So - and I could do maybe like another one yeah, so this is now like. I'Ve got all these curls and you see how they just so easily roll together and manipulate like it can just make it into one giant Carl and then just depending on where you pull it, you can curl it in different ways and get different styles there's. If I clip that there I'm going to have a victory roll there see, so I can get all of these really nice cool, different styles. So for now I'm just going to run my hands through. I have this center part there and yeah. So I'm like, I said this looks really cool if you just throw it up into a ponytail to kind of just looks like you have like a really nice style but see how nice Alex there. So I'm going to get just like a nice little like Marilyn Monroe kind of curly hair style going on here. If I just play around with it, get this side it to myself lots of volume right so there we go there. So yeah super fun super easy. This style really only takes like five or ten minutes to do like the curls are so easy, and it's nice because you just you can do anything you want with your hair. After, like honestly, I can make this look really ugly too. If I don't do it, you just really need to play with the curls play with your hair manipulate it, but with his I can make, as you saw, I can make straight chunks with a lot of curls. I can make it all curly. I can do victory. Rolls I can do bumper bangs, I can just have my Marilyn Monroe style, like this very versatile. Very nice super easy to do and yeah. As long as you get you girls right, you can do anything. So let me know how it goes. What kind of finish style is really able to do with this hair? Shall we write your retro pictures? Let me know in the comments below whether you like this and subscribe to my channel, and I will see you guys all next week. Thank you.
