Now that some of these guests want to grow their hair out let’s get into two texturizing techniques, one practical and one visual that will enable you to give movement to longer length.

Professional Tools Recommended For This Technique:

Professional Razor

Sam Villa 9-Gap Razor Blade – Why this Blade?

- The ‘U’ shaped grooves in-between the gaps hold the hair around them out of the way

- Only a small amount of hair is removed with each sweep - You are in control of how much weight to remove

- Great for pre-texturizing to remove weight

Sam Villa 6-Gap Razor Blade – Why this Blade?

- The ‘U’ shaped grooves in-between the gaps hold the hair around them out of the way

- Use for texturizing toward the ends of hair

Professional Long Cutting Comb

Why this comb?

- You want a comfortable length with narrow teeth at one end to smooth out your sections

- Black comb for lighter hair/Ivory comb for darker hair – the contrast will enable you to stay on point and see what you are doing

Hi everyone, Andrew Carruthers education, director for Sam via last year, we saw a huge Insurgentes of the barbershop trend coming into our salons. We saw a lot of these really tight fades and really clean skin edges. What we forgot about is we have a whole clientele like Sawyer here that they actually like a little bit of length to their hair, so this year we're really focusing on those early adopters to that barbering. What are they doing now? They'Re starting to grow their hair out, so we're going to show you some techniques using the Sam via razor to be able to remove weight and establish a really nice texture to the hair. So first things: first, we got to get some product in the hair. I'M going to start with the Redken for men, it's the get groomed and finishing cream, I'm going to use just about a nickel size of this as a cutting lotion. One of the things that we found is that when you're using a razor, you want something in the hair that has a little slip to it. If you go in on hair, that has a lot of texture and there's no slip to it. That'S when you end up really roughing up the cuticle when you get out a razor, sometimes you're going to have this reaction from your client of oh, my gosh get away from me with that razor and most times it's because they've had a bad experience and a Lot of times it's because we've roughed up the cuticle with the razor so that get groomed in the hair is really going to help me to get a nice slip with the razor blade I'm going to start by taking a center vertical section. All the way down to the nape, I'm just separating the two sides of the head, so I have control from here I'm going to start taking diagonal forward sections and I'm going to start with our nine gap. Razor now. What'S really cool about this razor is that we have a cup and then an open space, a cup and an open space. So I can take those diagonal sections and I can come right down in at the base of the hair and put this in and come through and you'll see what happens. Is I get a really nice soft finish from that? It'S just taking a little bit of hair away now what I've done there is I've gone in, and I've created some separation right at the base of the hair and, what's valuable about that is it gives this type of hair some swing and movement there's so much Density in there that a lot of times it feels really hard and really solid. So I start to get some movement into that. Now short hair does tend to be stronger than long hair. We know that as a principle of hairdressing and a lot of people are scared to get those short hairs in right down at the scalp. Now the thing is is if I was getting in here and creating tons of short little hairs right at the scalp, then yes, I could create volume with this, but a few short hairs are not stronger than a lot of longer hairs. Now I want to show you one other technique: we've started to reduce volume and reduce weight through here, get a little more swing to it. But what if I want more texture through the ends of the hair? That'S where this baby comes in really handy. This is the six gap razor now we have a lot more space in between those cups where we're going to take a lot more of the texture away. I'M going to come back in with those diagonal forward sections I'm going to come farther out into the hair strand, because if I come in with this razor and go Here, I am going to create some really strong short bits within this shape, which could expand the Hair and give me more volume, which I don't want so we're taking that diagonal forward, I'm going to come farther out, lay that in put a little pressure on it and then come through now. What you can see is you have a more deliberate texture with that? Six gap razor and that will add a lot more visual texture through the ends of the hair. So again, you'll use that nine gap razor to start to reduce the bulk and you can get a lot closer than it down into the scalp, because you're not creating large pockets of short hair to create a lot of expansion, you're, actually reducing late and getting more Swing and dimension to the hair, then what we would encourage you to do is to try out the six gap razor to come out more into the ends to create that visual texture. You want so as your male clientele transitions from the the trend of that barbershop. Look into longer shapes because of some techniques to really help you reduce the bulk and get a lot more swing from the hair, really hope. This helps you out. I'M Andrew Carruthers for Sam via you,

Helen Cornell: This video helped me sooo much! I wear my ZALA extensions everyday pretty much because im just so damn obsessed with them!

vhlebarov: It would actually be nice if we see a finished style with the technique.

Isabelle Stewart: I've never had extensions before but after seeing all the hype around ZALA extensions I had to get some. I ordered the 22inch pony tail extension using the online colour match service that they offer. My extensions came so quick, it was in the nicest packaging and the colour of the extension PERFECTLY matched my hair!! The texture of the extensions are sooooo smooth and it blends with my natural hair seamlessly. IM IN LOVE! I highly recommend getting these extensions and using their match service as its spot on.

Lydia Reed: gorgeous love this look Who else has tried halo extensions - im obsessed with my zala halo but am wanting to learn about different stylesi can create with mine :D

Diane McMahon: I think you need a before and after style to see how this is helpful. We can NOT see the texture and movement it creates to know when we want to use this technique.

heidiediaz: I would like to know if it have to continue until the top of the head following the same technique or just the bottom or back?

Gerri Petress: Don't ever use a razor on thin hair. Reason is you are basically thinking out thin hair and you don't want to do that. Texture is thinning.

RJ RTL: Another great vid guys!! Andrew your great!!

Cora T: Hey i have a question i want to layer my hair but i dont wanna lose the length is that possible and if yes how?

Santa Nikkels: Loving all thank you

Rob: Thanks, what is this called? I want to have my stylist do this but what do I ask for?

marcie zimmer: You could use this for a short ladies look as well correct ?

joe doe: I didn't know 'razors' like this even existed. I thought a razor was that sharp straight edge thing you use after putting on shave cream. Too much bulk in the back has always been a problem for me. It makes the hair disproportional. The only solution any stylist has ever offered me was to cut it back with scissors, or maybe thinning shears (only if I ask for them) which hurts cause all it does it pull your hair out and it's not effective anyway. Are cosmetology students trained in using these razors or is it strictly a barbering thing, requiring more education and more tuition? How do you sharpen the blades on them when they aren't straight?

HAIR BENDER: Nicely done

Lydia Price: My Zala halo literally Paid for itself in compliments!

Ethan Andrews: Where is your shop at and what is it called??

Wolf.: If Ben affleck was a barber...

Shakti Kashyap: I really need these hands

Logan Baxley: where can I find people that do men's long hair

Game Couch: This guy looks like the hotel worker from Home Alone 2

Alexa Jenkins: Loook im just going to call it, if your not wearing zala hair extensions your seriously not making yourself up to your potential, your whole look will be boosted 10 x with extra hair OKURRR

susan gunn: THIN your bushy beard.

Eddie 1: Not impressed

Kaustubh Pethkar: Now thats called video, the one with music is like gay thing.

sallahuddin123: Bad idea
