Today, I'm most anxious about seeing what I'm going to look like after.. I don't know if I've thought about getting it so drastically done for a perm.. I'Ve definitely thought about having it more temporary. Hi, I'm Eli and today I'm getting a perm.. But before you see my transformation subscribe below., So my hair journey has been kind of interesting.. I haven't cut my hair in 11 years.. I used to look like Dora the Explorer with my hair cut to here, and I haven't cut it since then.. So the inspiration for this look is my mom.. I'Ve always wanted to have wavy hair, like my mom's thicker hair.. She modeled her luscious hair. So I want to see if I can get that look too.. My current look makes me feel a little boring.. It'S what I wake up with every single day.. Sometimes I don't even brush my hair.. I just get up and start my day like this., So I'm definitely going to have a more interesting look and something to look forward to kind of taking care of on a day to day basis as well. Hi Eli.. How are you Hey. Hi, I'm Kiley Fitzgerald.. I work at Mare salon in Los Angeles, California, and I do the Mare wave.. My favorite part about my job is meeting so many incredible people and just creating great connections and having fun.. Today, when we're finished, it's going to be really tight and curly., But then you wait two days to shampoo it and then after you shampoo, it it'll be a very soft gentle wave.. Let'S do it.. I love it. Thanks.. First, I'm going to shampoo Eli's hair and make sure it has no excess oils in it then brush through to remove any knots.. The Mare wave is different from the 80s perm, because it's a more natural effortless, texture curl.. It'S meant for people just to have a little bit more body and volume and movement to their hair.. I section her hair and customize it to Eli's texture and desired style.. I perfected the Mare wave with the owner of Mare, salon, Mara Roszak.. We kind of got together and created a different technique. That'S you know, customizable for each client, where it's really unique to them. And it fits who they are and what they're kind of looking for, whether it's more volume or just so that it makes styling their hair. A little bit easier. Hair to me is really what sets the mood for a lot of my days.. When I'm feeling lazy, I have a really lazy hairstyle and when I'm feeling like I want to go out there and conquer the world, I really go all out with my hair as well., So I'm most excited about seeing the final look.. I think it's going to take a couple of days to really kick in, but I'm so excited about that.. We wrapped the front with cotton to protect her skin then apply the waving lotion and let it sit for about 20 minutes.. The Mare wave typically takes about two hours.. It depends on your hair length and how thick your hair is.. I would strongly recommend seeing a professional for this because you're working with some pretty strong chemicals - and you want to be careful to not ruin or damage your hair.. Now we can take out the rods and see Eli's mermaid hair.. The Mare wave is really great because it's a five month commitment, but, depending on your hair, it can grow out really soft and natural, because it's not like the old 80s perm.. It'S a more natural effortless texture opposed to a really tight curl.. It'S meant for people. Just to have a little bit more body and volume and movement to their hair. - Oh my god, It's a little damp still. I like to let it leave a little damp, but you look like a mermaid.. I love it.. I so love it. And it's not too curly. You know To keep it healthy and wavy and gentle. I suggest an oil, maybe Davines Oi oil or a beach spray.. Well. Thank you. So much You're welcome thanks for coming in. Yeah. I can't wait to see the final result. Amazing. I wish I could hug you. Me too Covid right. This is much better than what I even imagined in my wildest dreams. My hair would look like. Ever. In two days, I'll be able to wash my hair and see what it looks like once it's settled in a little bit.. It'S now been two days since my perm and also the first time I was able to shower since the treatment had to really settle in., And it's looking really promising. Look at this wave., I'm just so surprised that it held up and just even more lively.. It'S good to know that everyone's hair reacts differently., So it just depends on the style, the texture, the thickness of your hair.. So what she has you know is great, but it may be different for someone else.. This look 1000 percent boosted, my confidence.. I wanted something: bubbly bouncy, like my personality. And I'm just so happy that my hair isn't dull and straight as it was.. I'M just excited to rock this new, beautiful California style look.. Refinery29: Have you ever gotten any kind of perm before? Share with us in the comments!

Angelique Felice: Someone give that client an Oscar, cause I could NEVER act that excited if you sent me home looking that awful...

NerveyNerve93: Just out here taking folks’ money....she could have honestly gotten better results with a braid out.

goaway1846: Before watching: wow these comments are so rude After watching: yeah... this ain’t it

solitairedoll: The stylist said it would be a “tight curl.” Girl, where? This is a damn mess. Hope it was a free service because she deserved $0 for this fraudulent service the client could have easily done at home.

luizaricci: Wavy perm That’s what my hair looks like when I haven’t washed it for 3 days and its all greasy

Christiana Anin: I don’t understand how people are so confident in their work when you can clearly see this ain’t it... all these chemicals for nothing .... oh boy

cheeriooOo: Refinery 29 really out here only hearting comments that say it looks good.

Tara Rushing: The end result looks like wavy hair that’s been damaged over time...

MyS: MMM.. This is pretty disappointing, in my opinion.. Ok that she wanted just something different, but she could 've reached the same result just by putting her hair in a tight braid for the night.. But yeah.. if she's happy, is all that matter! A mediocre result, personally

Caramel And Chocolate: She made her hair look greasy. Worse than when she went in.

JUICY’S PLANET: I would have spun my chair right back and asked “wtf is this “

MARIA ALEXANDER: Total FAIL! That "technique" has been around since early 90s! My mom used to perm my hair all the time. The longer your hair, the more it will weigh down a curl especially when using a fat roller. She def got ripped off!

DancingLobster1: She is stunningly beautiful regardless, and I’m sure the stylist is a good stylist, but I think she got the short end with the outcome of her perm. Idk, it might be me but I’d but upset if they did that to me.

Kailah Lee: This woman is stunning (and so is her mom!!). I would love to see a do-over of this perm on her with tighter curls.

M K: Why didn’t she give her hair a trim?! She says she hasn’t cut it for 11 years

Reshmashree m.r.: I hope she didn't pay a lot for that... It's utterly waste of time... infact her hair was looking flawless before...now it looks bad and messy

Cake Supply_Lady: Normally the "transformations" have me wanting to get something done to my hair. After seeing this, high bun it is. Mannnnn that was disappointing. I thought she would have these fabulous beachy waves, not static and greasy looking.

Tracy Savignac: I have seen better perms come out of the beauty school I taught at. We would not let anyone leave looking like that! Jesus and she says we perfected this...

Lizzy Rose :3: She could’ve just braided it and left it like that for a day or two and would’ve gotten the same results lol

Debasmita: That's my wavy hair on a bad day ️️

May May: nooo.. you can get that result by sleeping with braids and adding hairspray/ a texturizing product after. its less damaging too. you could even use the rollers she was using

L T: Wow I'm sorry personally I'm not a fan of the results but is she's happy than that all that matters

KB: It's so awesome that you don't have to curl that gorgeous wave every time you do your hair. Beautiful results.

BTS_army: Her hair is so gorgeous naturally, i would love for my own hair to be like that, please don't mess up your gorgeous hair with all those chemicals if you can get even nicer waves with a braid AND maintain your naturally beautiful hair 〰️〰️

Catharine Roberts: There’s literally no difference in her hair it just looks stringy now

bbygrlpt2: Are you serious? I can achieve the same result by not combing my hair after I wash it at least the 80s perm was worth your money

Gabrielle Holt: Nah fam this ain't it....she is a truly gorgeous woman but I think we need to show her hairstylist to the door...

Hannah B: This is how her hair looks like in her wildest dreams? Hmm...

Yvette Ettevy: I think it would’ve looked amazing with some layers so the length and heaviness of the hair wouldn’t weigh it down so much

jenni: Her hair is so healthy and long I wish my hair was like that :( (at the beginning) I

Ariel Williams: Crap. She twisted a few pieces to make it seem wavy. It’s still straight, it’s just textured straight. There’s no wave there.

Maria Rodriguez: I’ve always got told I could never get a perm because of how thick my hair is watching this video makes me want to go to that stylist now.. thank you Refinery!

Janet Mecham: This had to cost a fortune due to her hair length! I remember having hair that long and it costing ridiculous amounts just for a trim!

Sasha Loraine: I didn’t read the comments first but when she said she was finished my reaction was... That’s It! You could have really done that yourself. Just out here giving money away

Hannah Evangelista: honestly i think that her face could handle any hairstyle/cut and still be gorgeous as hell and also her hair is naturally thin and straight so i believe shes happy bc she gained some movement after all

barbiezinha: HER HAIR WAS SO AMAZING BEFORE THO IMAGINE 11 YEARS OF GROWTH :0

cindy morales: Each week they post "Hair me Out" each week I always see the comments on how bad the results came out LOL Damn Refinery get better hair stylists

AMAZINGGRACE87: That's my natural hair after a shower, towel dry and bed lol

Michelle Hernandez: I naturally have straight hair and this is what my hair looks like after 3 days of no wash and sleeping with a bun on sis this ain't it ‍♀️

Morgan Mitkowski: Seeing this video really made me appreciate my natural wavy curls

elibean: I've definitely been able to deliver a better perm than this in long hair when I was in beauty school. I'm disappointed that the stylist was talking about how she perfected this technique with the owner of the salon or whatever but the results tell me otherwise. Not sure if the video actually showed the right timing of her applying the waving solution or not. But I hope that she didnt just apply it and then rinse because it's supposed to stay on a while. If she rinsed it after applying it, it would explain why her hair turned out this way.

b2ksflyhoney: I wonder if this client has a public Instagram, I want to see how it looks now and how she has styled it post perm.

9melissal: Definitely doesn't look like mermaid waves. It just looks kinda ratty.

Kathy H: I permed my granddaughters hair s couple months ago, on green and purple rods, thin sections and left the solution on 15 minutes longer (her hair is past mid back) it turned out gorgeous with a bit more loose spiral, it STILL looks fantastic after 2 1/2 months! I would recommend perm rod wrap instead of the sponge long rods, the effect is much more wave and lasts longer with far more root volume

rs585916: If you heard what she said she wanted, she literally got just that. I think the result she had after washing was exactly a relaxed wave. I like it on her.

S.: This is a hard no for me. Putting that amount of chemicals in your hair just to make it look dirty and greasy.

Quarantineedits 2020: Ok so my hair rn and always has been wavy as in, long natural waves (space between each wave) And there was a time in my life when I got sick, and so the meds and treatment really made my hair brittle and fall out and frizzy. The end result in the video, is just that and I -

Tania South: I was disappointed but...in my situation, I'd love to get this done & at the end she did get the curls. Each to their own!!

Julian Hover: I like the result after the two days. I can understand that the stylist wanted to let it more dry on it's own. But for the after-shots it would have been better to wait.

Joa Santi: I wish I could just wake up without having to brush my hair too.. curly girls ya feel me

Latifa: Idk what the comment section is talking about I think she looks amazing

Janel M: all the negativity in these comments makes me sad :( i have a very similar hair texture to this woman (straight, thick, easy, but super boring) and i got a similar treatment done on my hair a couple of years ago. sure, i could’ve gotten the same result from just braiding my hair at night, what was so great about getting a perm was that i didn’t have to; i just woke up and my hair had texture and volume. and the hairstylist in the beginning said that over the few days after it would loosen a bit, and she’s totally right. it doesn’t look matted like that forever, after like 2 days it softened out and just looked like i had gorgeous beach texture and i didn’t have to do anything special to it everyday, it was awesome :)

Sriracha: I love it I think it looks beautiful and natural actually

Crystal Charles: Poor girl she's probably pretending to like it..I would do the same then go home and cry after lol but the stylist probably thought it would turn out better..she was so confident

Keykeymon: So... she got a Korean perm from a blonde lady that says she "invented" it. Kewl. (Me sitting here with a C-curl perm from K-town)

Mia Oh: A curling wand would have been more efficient and cheaper.

Ainhoa Martialay: We need more perm videos! ❤️

Kathy H: I still favor a large perm rod perm processed a bit longer than it says on the basic, it makes the roots have more volume and it lasts MUCH longer

Kaisha Williams: This was like when my mum tried to curl my hair with a curler and gave up half way

Bhakti Ruparel: She looks really pretty after curls. Well done by hair stylist.❤️

Moichepit: Listen, we need to do better in life... this cannot be it. But an A for the the attempt. THIS IS WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE: * smaller, smaller sections. Each of the flexi rods she did could have been divided in to 3 subsections * smaller, smaller flexi rodes due to length. * Roll the hair in a SPIRAL with flexi rods hanging down BUT hair tightly secured SLIGHTLY OVERLAPPING... NOT secured to the root like a donut. Note: the reason for the instructions mentioned above is because her hair is long, therefore the small sections will compensate for half of the weight. Curling in a spiral position will give a unified wave without compromising volume. Also what she could have also done (if she wanted to...) is had her (the client) lean foward for those 20 mins so it can set upwards promoting even more volume. PUT HER UNDER THE DRYER TO SET. It is a temporary hairstyle that will loosen over time henceforth she should have went for a 3A/3B curl pattern and allowed it to set 2 days into a 2B WAVE. At least it would have lasted wwwwwaaaaaaayyyyy longer and lessened overtime. Not trying to pull a race card but next time, I would have went to an old school hair salon with a Hispanic or African-American auntie who perm hair with their eyes closed.

Miss Okyere: She could have used hair mousse with the rollers to achieve a much better results without any chemicals

Lacie Villatoro: girl just braid your hair when it’s almost dry and wake up like that for free. My hair holds it for like 2-3 days. I do have a bit of a wave to begin with. If I new how to Dutch braid I would really have some kick ass waves! YOU CAN DO IT!

Sarah Lusk: Can we just talk about how 95% of the comments on these videos are always bad?? Like, something should be telling Refinery 29 to pick better stylists and better clients. I think they should do the reveal footage 2 days after the hair is done, because everyone knows that nobodys hair looks good straight out of the salon.

aNONImous: me before I watched the videos but saw the comments: "how bad can it really be..?" me after watching the video : "yikes"

Rebekah Hensarling: I feel like she could’ve gotten more of a wave with braiding wet hair and letting it air dry. I was excited for this. Maybe it’s because her hair is so long, that it’s heavy so it doesn’t hold much? I’m grasping at straws. I wasn’t impressed.

Eora: I wonder if she could have got the same result (or better, honestly) by braiding her hair after shower and letting it dry like that. It works for me!

SassyCurlz: I’m glad she’s so happy with it but man, imagine how much she paid and she could have gotten that same amount of “curl” with some Aussie instant freeze gel and a sprunch hair spray. I can’t even

Uncle Iroh: I think she's so pretty, and it looked so good after the two day mark

billy spi.: She ia really pretty with her natural straight hair.I think her hair is strong for a perm. The hair just looks limpyer and thiner. That look could be achieved in other ways, withouth chemicals.Well it won't last long, but it will be healthy looking.Like lot's of tight brades, after washing it in the morning, and keep them until she goes to sleep or overnight. That wil last 2-3 days or bit longer.

Mir: The end results are making me question her *wildest dreams* jeeeeez

Shalini jesudas: There was literally no need to go to a hairstylist and get THIS done. This was a disaster also if this girl really likes such kind of hair she can do it at home herself.

CUTECUPCAKECCC: Before and after are amazing

Ana Juarez: That’s how my hair looks when I wake up every morning and I get it for free

Rina Anggraeni: Well, the stylist did say they customized the curls according how their clients want it so maybe it's really what Eli wanted, not to mention it does look like her mom's curly hair, but I wish she cut it shorter to make it even more fresh and bouncy looking

TheOnlyRomans1:16Gurl: I'm underwhelmed. Her hair was too long for this.

Amanda Blando: The best advice the hair stylist gave her was always have a professional do your hair. I would not have been happy with this outcome, so next time go to a real professional.

wilbur foot: The fact that there are so many dislikes is hilarious HAHA

I.T. Girl: I don’t think the stylist agrees with the rest of the world’s definition of “wavy”...

Jocelyn Ortiz: Her hair did get a fuller look. @4:55 it looks beautiful. + the results are permanent

pompii ddvi: Nope. Her hair looks like she forgot to comb it after bunching it up in a bun. Her pre-owned hair looked so good

ⲃⲁⲍⲙⲓ ⲙⲟⲟⲛ: did I miss something?? Where are the ??? She could’ve saved her money and accomplished those results with a can of mousse and a braid out!

aperal732: No sis!!.. this is just a hot frizzy mess

Michele Flores: Her hair was perfect the way it was . That Hairstylist probably did something wrong.

Mahera: I always read the comments first and think everyone is being dramatic but yall stay telling the truth it looks damaged. Does refinery purposely pick bad stylist?

Toxic A: It looks great!

Dr Aakanksha Sharma: So she basically got what I have been hating my hole life . My hair are neither curly nor straight and I feel I don’t look neat with my wavy hair . We train our minds to donot like what we have ‍♀️

Ella Beth Foster: I am a girl with naturally long wavy hair. Her hair looks like me after I haven’t washed my hair for like 1 1/2 weeks. It’s just not it.

katherine gregory: I am pretty sure this is what it looks like when the perm is done wrong. A perm is a very specific process. Not every hairdresser can nail it

Cata Fuentes: I have NEVER watched a Hair me out where I like the results, at this point I'm only watching these for the disappointment and the comments lol

Olynte: Wow, looks exactly the same, but more greasy/like it's wet all the time, what a great change!

malaika: me, with naturally wavy hair and wanting to permanently straighten it:

BUT...: it's absolutely ironic how they did a 180 on every aspect, yet it still matches the outcome perfectly but not in a positive way. By the way, why is this still up? I wouldn't dare keep it up here or an early retirement is what my goal to achieve was.....Yeezzz....

Chevy Lily: Awww your mom is beautiful!

Zaphira Lzo: no way! My daughter do braids to her Sri Lanka friend for few hrs n her hair end up w beautiful curls for long hrs.

EyeRolling: love the subtle transformation!! she looks great either way!

Pearly Pie: As long as she’s happy with her hair....

Natalia R: Well she looks exactly like when I don't brush my hair and it gets crazy
