Summer has finally arrived, and with that, I wanted to share a hair tutorial on how to do beachy waves with a flat iron. I have tried many different methods to achieve this look, and this is the one that consistently works best for me. I love how natural and effortless looking the waves are, and although they’re effortless looking they do take a bit of work haha!

Ok, everyone welcome back summer is finally here, so I thought I would share with you guys my secret to creating the best beachy mermaid waves. I have tried so many different methods to create beachy waves and this technique is the one that has consistently worked for me. I find it just gives you the most like natural effortless looking waves, but in saying that we all know that effortless takes some work, so dust off your hair straighteners and let's get started okay to prep the hair. My hair usually holds a curl fairly well, since it is bleached and it's on more of the drier side, but I just watched it so my hair is feeling a little bit too soft, so I'm going to go in with the way dry, texture film. I absolutely love this product when I'm creating like effortless, textured beachy, looks plus weigh products, my god they smell amazing, of all of the hair products. These ones have to be at my favorite smell alright, so I just like to shake it up and it's a mousse like it's so much more fun right, he's working between your hands and you apply this on dry hair. That'S another reason why I love it and I just start on my ends and I work my way up to my roots and then no surprise. I have a lot of hair, so I'm just going to section off all of the hair that is above my ears and clip it out of the way to create the waves I like to use a one-inch straightener, and this one is from t3 buys any straightener. Will do and I always hold my hot tools in my dominant hand, and I should probably turn this on and I have mine set to the third temperature on here. It'S a third dot and I'm going to be working in about one to two inch sections roughly. This size no need to be perfect here, all right, we're all heated up. So what you want to do is place your straightener right at your root and you want to keep the hair straightener horizontal at the whole time. Alright, so we want to create volume at the root, so we're gon na clamp, the straightener and just curl the section in towards your face. So just twist your wrist about 90 degrees and then open up and let go so that's our first wave. Well. So I'm gon na do it again, but this time we're gon na curl the hair away from the face. So I'm gon na place my straightener right at the bottom of that last wave. Keep it boys on top clamp twist away about two seconds, one two boom. So, as you can see, we have a little bit of an S shape, that's exactly what we're going for. So I just going to continue this pattern down the rest of my section. It'S gon na go at the bottom of that last wave. I'M gon na curl up my hair under towards my face for two seconds: oh my god, Wow all right bottom of the wave twist away perfect twist towards away and for my ends I just curl them. Whichever way that I'm at in my pattern, my curly haired viewers - I kindly let me know that your hair looks more natural when you curl the ends versus keeping them straight, and I completely agree so I'm just gon na curl this away. So there's our first wave. I love it, I think it looks very natural and not too crimpy and, of course, it'll always fall later on alright. So let me show you on another section: why not so police your hair, straightener at your roots, clamp down curl, that hair in and that's gon na create a lot of volume right at the root and then starting at the bottom of that last wave. I'M gon na clamp, curl away two seconds, I'm just going to repeat this down the rest of the section and then my ends this time. I'M gon na curl them in alright toss these out of the way I'm just gon na. Do this section really quickly? I'M gon na break it into two I'm gon na take my time for you guys today make it look real nice as you're curling, your hair. You just want to make sure that there is tension on the hair the whole time, I'm almost pulling that entire section straight, because the tension is what's going to help create the curl look at these waves. I love them. This has always been my dream. I wish I could just wake up and my hair looks like this, but I'm really glad I found a method to just recreate it. I think it looks really natural and beautiful, but I'm going to go ahead and finish up this side over here and please don't get discouraged. If your waves don't look quite as defined or the way that you expected them to the more practice, the easier it will become, and if this is your first time, maybe start with a section near the back of your head, not one that frames your face so That way, if you make a mistake, nobody will see it. I love these so much. I was laughing at myself while I was curling my hair, because I'm looking in like a viewfinder, so it's not only neared but it's backwards. So I'm trying to really grab on to my hair and I kept missing the section - and all I could think about - was that video of that lady, where she's trying to curl her hair and every time she's grabbing it she's missing, but she's like really trying hard. But it's really funny anyways, that's sort of reminding me of I'm going to unclip this top section and, let's move along alright, I got myself a mirror, so hopefully this helps so believe it or not. This technique is actually quite quick and simple. Once you get the hang of it, but I want to show you the same technique, but without removing at the straightener it might be easier for some of you and you might get a better outcome. So let me show you all right, so I got my one-inch section same technique except you're, not going to take the straightener off the section and you're not going to stop moving. Alright, let's check all right, horizontal close to the root we're going to curl that hair in two seconds out two seconds in two seconds out and just repeat: keeping that tension all the way down this section. So that's what the wave looks like with that technique. I think it's really beautiful, but I just personally prefer doing the curl. Let go curl, let go but yeah. Let me know which one works for you, but I'm just gon na go ahead and I'm just going to grab random sections and continue at the pattern down the rest of my hair. I prefer grabbing more random sections at the top versus sectioning it off that way. It doesn't come out looking too uniformed and perfect. You guys, I feel so sassy. Currently I love this look now, let's do the other side, so this is a hairstyle that really comes together at the end. So if you just started and you're not feeling it quite yet just keep pushing through, I felt the same way. The first time I tried it too. You'Ll really start to get a hang of the technique. So, by the time you get to the top you'll really look like you have these beautiful natural mermaid waves. I feel the same way like the higher I go, the better my waves are getting so just stick to it. Push through it's worth it and then my bangs, since you guys always ask I am just curling them away from my face, I'm so happy. So what you want to do is anywhere that there are some straight pieces like right here, just go in and give them a curl, and it's just gon na really help them pop and make the hairstyle look more natural. So I'm gon na add some dry shampoo to my roots, to give them even more volume, because why not and then for a little bit more texture, I'm just gon na add some of this. A big sexy hair powder play I'm just gon na sprinkle. Some all my fingers and then just grab some of the waves and just you know, mess him up. Judge them up a bit, give them some more texture. So there we have it you guys. That is how to create these awesome, beachy mermaid waves of for summer. These will last you until you wash your hair. They honestly get better as the days go by and it's my birthday weekend whew. I don't even celebrate my birthday anymore, but I will have beachy mermaid hair all weekend, but if you guys recreate this hairstyle, don't forget to tag me over on Instagram. You already know how much I love seeing recreations. They honestly make my day. You guys are so beautiful and talented, but I really hope you liked today's video, if you did please give it a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe. I just posted a picture of me rocking these beachy waves on my Instagram, so go check it out, but thank you guys so much for watching I'll link, some similar to toriel's down below and I'll talk to you guys next time, bye,

Katelynn Lee: This would take forever lol

Kel: It’s taking Alex a while in this vid because she is explaining the process. I swear this is my everyday hair and it takes no time at all

Hugo The cockapoo: It’s 02:41am and I’m trying to curl my hair in lockdown for no reason, what has my life come to?

Kayla Farrimond: Just a tip you dont have to let go in between each curl direction. You can easily just slide it all the way down your hair. Its up to you though whatever works best!

Jenna Harvey: When you have natural beach waves but they always frizzy af and you can’t brush your hair if you want to keep them

Alejandra R Gómez: I loveeeed it! I always used to go to hair salons to get beachy waves for certain events and they ALWAYS screw up by giving me curls instead of waves (different places every time and many of them very expensive) I always end up fixing it myself, you're saving me a lot of money girl love you!

flak magnet: I have been doing the old fashioned flat iron curl for like six years and was getting sooo bored with it. So I tried this tutorial and have been doing it for a couple weeks now (it doesn't take that long when you get comfortable with it btw) and I never had more compliments on my hair in my life! Thanks girl! ❤

Kristina Bertrand: Love the beautiful beach waves hairstyle Alex looks so great and happy birthday!!!!

Sarah Howarth: This is so genius!! I've always wanted waves exactly like this, and I could never figure out how to do it. I'm definitely going to try it!!

Belu Castillo: Wow it's great! I never knew how to make waves with the iron. It is a good technique! I love your videos!

Alex Gaboury: I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine! ☀️

Linda Nguyen: I just tried this and it does take a bit to learn the method but once I got it down, the end result was beautiful mermaid effortless waves. Thanks so much for the video!!!

Anah Jacobson: Oh my gosh the finished look is SO gorgeous but this method is way too time consuming. I bought a waver for like $20 on Amazon and it gives a very similar look in just a few minutes! Love your videos. You are amazing!

Michelle D: I have curly hair that I need to straighten at the roots but wanted waves at the ends without having to use a flat iron and a curling iron. This worked great!

Aubrey Parker: I really need to try this one because my hair is very difficult when it comes to curling or waves!

Princess Piper: This looks amazing and i actually have patient for this

Jade Rakestraw: It looks beautiful Alex! To me you are the queen of hair❤

emwaa terää: I have learned so much from you, I didn’t know what to do w my hair. Thank you

Empressah: It’s funny these get called beachy waves, as it’s exactly what my hair looks like when it dries after being in the sea:D but I can never recreate it with salt sprays! I’d like to do this, but as my hair is thick and waist length, I think it would take way too long. Can you use a barrel waver to do this?

Elizabeth Yates: Beautiful hair and waves! Ty for the consistent awesomeness!

Sarah Faith: This looks so pretty! I don’t have all my tools with me (ie beach waver) so looking for ideas to use with my flat iron. Thanks!

Marina MonArch: THANK YOU! My hair is in really weird. When I wash it, parts of it curl perfectly in most wonderful, natural waves. And the rest of my hair is just like hay :D. I never managed to curl the rest of my hair to be the same like my natural waves, and curling it the usual way would mean I'd have two types of curls on my head :D. So, I mostly had to give up my natural hair. BUT THEN I'VE FOUND THIS VIDEO! And now I can finally match the 'stubborn' parts of my hair to naturally waved parts.

Heather Ramsey: I have been looking for a tutorial just like this one - thanks so much!

Thea hb: Just found your channel!! Totally didn’t binge watch a whole load of videos love you and your channel❤️❤️

nicolle n.: Really pretty. My hairstylist did that on some of my hair but the hair on the top she just did big curls and slightly combed it out. Came out great! My hair is thick and somewhat coarse so doing this with a flat iron on all my hair would take too long :(

Chuu: Even though this takes a long time, I love it! Thank you so much omg ❤️❤️❤️

southernbellechef: Just bought a hair straightener online and I’m going to try your method when it comes in the mail. Your version of beach waves are the prettiest on YouTube

Jellz K: I love your look! I can’t wait to try it on my own hair tomorrow ❤️

Trish Pipkins: This is great! It looks so natural!

Melissa Kreiner: This is so pretty! Do you think you could achieve a similar look using a three barrel iron? ☺️

jasmineTHAI: So pretty! I’m going to try this tomorrow

Lets fly away: Thank you for sharing!!! I DO have the patience and will be trying it!

Krystal Hubba: I wish my hair was that thick and already voluminous! thanks for the tutorial, it definitely helped my very flat thin hair lol.

Kathleen Cisneros: My hair is naturally curly but I love this hairstyle! I’m definitely doing this to my friends hair since theirs is straight

Princess Piper: I did it and it was really fast and my hair looks stunning

Grace Bowlin: I just tried this technique on my hair today and it’s AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I love it sooooo much! Thank you Alex!!

E ALE: This hairstyle reminds me of the movie aquamarine when she gets her hair done lol so pretty!

Oydin Tulaganova: Gorgeous thats exactly what i wanted thank you so much)

H H: This is my dream hair too! I did not think of doing it this way, thanks.. will try it.. Happy Birthday!

Thao, T. P, Nguyen: Much love from me <3 <3 <3 Just what I need. I own a flat iron hair and didn't want to invest in a curler, but I still want to maximize the use of my flat iron. More styling tips with the flat iron are appreciated.

Daynae: What a great video! Love it

Jacquelynne Nguyen: you can also leave the flat iron in the strand of hair instead of removing it after each wave

Olivia A: i found this video cause i wanted to try beachy waves and can i just say while i’m not as in to beauty channels as much as i once was i just subscribed and might get back into it because you seem so amazing and well spoken and just so genuine! i feel like a lot of the huge names in the beauty community on youtube got so toxic and is part of the reason i stopped watching it was almost as if i didn’t know who i should be supporting but you seem so kind and this was a fantastic tutorial!

Amanda E: I can’t wait to try this!

Nicole ‘Nikki’ Soto: Looks so natural!

Chelsea Smile: Okay, I actually thought this was going to take forever, but I tried it this morning, mine don't look exactly like hers, but for a first time I'm happy with how they came out and it legit didn't take nearly as long as it seemed like it would.

lynda harrison: Beautiful! Love it ❤️

Simran Kooner: I actually really like this , might try it out , thanks!

Arisa P: Hey, do u have any tips for keeping your hair healthy even after straightening and curling? My hair always feels rough now after I started straightening my hair ☹️

Aya El-Sawa: imagine having the patience to do this

Steph's Wavy Curls: I would looooooooove to see hairstyles with this texture pretty please!

Jane Loius: Love this as usual ❤️

Lizbeth Leon: omg thank you for this video i was looking for so long for a video like this and this one actually worked and its SOOOO cute

Emily Legault: I would also suggest using some kind of pomade for those who want more definition and hold out of these waves. Love the videos Alex! <3

Aimee on 60fps: so glad i came across this video, my hair is always so static and so hard to handle, hopefully this hairstyle will sort my unmanageable hair out!

Vijay Rajashree: Wowww soo lovely waves and it looks pretty to you . Will try

Rebecca Blashock: So lovely! Thanks! :D

Andrea: Thank you!! I was looking for a tutorial like this

Nuray Memmedova: Wow! It's great It is perfect

name_16: i can’t wait to try this!!!

M C: So easy to do! Thanks!

Dipti Tamta: Definitely gonna do this!!!❣️

Ellaloopsie: Beautiful beach waves ❤️

Creative Cheers of Fashion Laura Flohr: Certainly gonna try this!! The other way of curling with a flat iron does NOTHING with my hair. So hope this is gonna work because a curling iron gives me too tight curles.

Kaitlyn: This is amazing thanks !

Chelsea Wilhelm: Love this look!

jordan: Omg thank you so much this worked so well

Debi Duenkel: I can't do this no matter how hard I try! I've been at it ALL day and my hair is straight as a boardWhy do these tutorials look so easy and yet they are so hard to do!? Your hair is gorgeous and you explain it nicely... but, I'm not smart enough to get it ... I guess

10stellas: I can see this "taking a while", BUT I own a straightener soooo I can now use it instead of buying a wand thank you for the video!!!!

Gretch G: Happy birthday Alex! Hope you have a great one.

tashachristy09: It might take longer but the first technique she shows comes out so great. She even says it will last so if youre like me and dont have alot of time in the morning to primp you can always try to do it the night before?

No name: These videos make it look so easy :-:

tђє รtยקเ๔ кเ๔: I attached all my watches together to make a belt... It was a waist of time..

Rodica Maran: O femeie de o frumusete angelica cu o voce atat de calda si placuta si cu un par superb!Multa sanatate iti doresc si så faci cat mai multe videoclipuri!

Yanna Zajarny: I do this all the time!

Mia Medina: I clicked this video because I saw how beautiful your waves were in the thumbnail then I actually watched it and decided I'm not able to do all this with my 1 year around, this would take me 2 hours to do and my daughter only naps for one hour

Paige Patton Hargis HAMMERZIPPY: This is the best flat iron Beach wave tutorial around, believe me I have searched high and low. It's clear, the end result is perfect. You do a good job explaining. A+

Amanda Hudson: Wow, what's with all the negative comments? We all know how to use the video slider, don't we? The curling starts at about the 1:30 mark. This is actually a very good, informative video. Long process though. I think the hair products industry should create something to facilitate this for us with an iron to wave the hair fast. I have the wave iron where your hair goes into the black hole and comes out wavy but way too wavy for my liking. Beach waves, my ass! For now, this is the way to go. She's got the method and for a special occasion or worthwhile taking the time to fancy it up, I'd follow this tutorial. Good job!

Clarissa Mae Villados: I watched this more than twice before I got it. Thank you..

Mel Rose: The thought of using a flat iron on my hair AFTER applying mousse scares tf outta me

Jennifer S.: Tip: Use the tool meant for the style for quicker results.

Katie heim: I tried this and it worked thx for the tutorial

Vanguard Beauty Academy: Amazing beach waves!

Annika K: This is how my hair looks naturally! Thanks God!

Becky Walker: Will do this soon!

Hollie Drake: I am so grateful I was born with beach wave hair. All I do is spray on leave-in paraben free conditioner scrunch it in and let it air dry. Wash and Wear hair :) My hair is long, dark and shines like a raven. Very healthy because I rarely use a hair dryer, hair straightener and don't need a curling iron. Every now and then I be in the mood to straighten my hair for a different look, but not very often. I am always happy with my hair.

hotspringroll: Such gorgeous healthy hair!!

kbc_dh: Could you please do a video on when to use hair foam/wax/gel/spray? Always get confused about it

Sreya Ghosal: This is my natural hair with tones of volume in it. Gets very sweaty in summer time.

Guadalupe Reyna: Your extensions are so natural, i love! Which do you use?!

ßunny Senpai: I did it, it looks so cute tho

Emma Caroline: Omg I have curly hair but I straighten it and I feel like this is a perfect on between

Molly Ergen: If you want a quicker version of this just copy what she does except keep the straightener on your hair the whole time and just go back and forth down your hair I have a lot of hair but it only takes about 20 mins and the result is basically the same

belle Beauty: The result is amazing but I'm too lazy to do this

Sofia Claveria: planned doing this for online school but ended up just doing the front that can be seen by my cam! Can I have some patience?!

Lisa Tipping: Whenever I curl it, I dont even touch it, it just goes a bit frizzy after about half an hour then drops and goes straight again... How can I fix this and keep the curls in?

Vanessa Russo: This was so quick i did 4 sections each section for 3 sections.

The_Izabellaa: Your hair is so BEAUTY

Aw Oishow: I have a big problem!! I have curls only 15 minutes and that's all. It's straight again Maybe someone has an advice?

SexyHair: Stunning!
