You know in the yao family we never threw our hair away but keep them together and put them on the head together. Now they are helping her to peel the hair on my head. So the mother now is collecting the hair and she's going to put the hair on the girl on the go's head. They will show their long hair now. Maybe we can follow them and have a look they're going to wash their hairs. Is there anything special about the hair washing? Yes, you know the hair of the yow. So, what's the benefits of this water, this is good for the hair. After washing the hair, you become very soft black and no white hair, even the very old grandma you know. In the village, she has no white hair. Okay, this way of washing hair has passed down from generations to generation a long time. How long has the tradition has been passed down about 100 years? Maybe i think more than a thousand years, thousands of years? Yes, since the answers of the yaw okay, now they are now washing the hair yeah. They are washing the hair and show you. You know how we wash our hairs in the daily life. How long would you usually wash your hair and say um not quite often openly, you know, because it's very hard for us to wash our hairs. You know every like in the summer, every three or four days and in the winter every week yeah we watch our hair. How long? How long would it take if you wash your hair one time yeah when we, you know the rice, water? We put the rice water on our head and then we'll keep on the head here for 20 minutes and then 20 minutes later we wash our hair. You know in the river, yes in the river, usually yeah the river. The water of the river is quite clean and you may see very small fish there's fish, but we cannot see. Now we have fish fish in the river. Michelle Dowdy: Aside from learning about the use or rice water for the hair, this video is highly informative and educational. I love how colorful the people are, how gentle and revered as women. I have so much admiration for their tradition being passed down for generations, and still being much respected and loved. The communal, helping one another nature of the wash day is what we used to do until we became modern. Even though they are wearing the same clothes, each woman is unique in her body shape and look. This is really wonderful to see.

Ya Basic: 12:04 RECIPE: "The water after washing the rice we are putting in a big barrel and boil them together with some oranges skins and, you know, keep them in a big barrel for half a month or a month, then after that we will use that to wash our hair."

My skin was so clear (even though i had no clenser), my hair was super shiny and my nails grew fast. When i came back to the city all that changed. The minerals in spring water / river water are rich and pure. The fermented rice has amazing aminos and benefits.

Lisa Scales: They also don't over wash only once a month and not with harsh chemicals also their food and lifestyle is healthy probably no drugs

Lisa Eischens: It’s so interesting to see how they uphold their culture and differentiate between the married women with children, those without children and then the single ladies. Very beautiful women.

V.J. Cooper: What a beautiful display of culture that has been passed down generation to generation over 1000 years. The rice water washing is also embedded in their DNA for over 1000 years. .... These beautiful woman have completely different DNA makeup and come from a completely different culture. Just don't get caught up in using something that is foreign to your scalps and body. Fermented water may not be the best choice for our own African hair. These women don't mess with their hair in any way... no added products, no shampoos, no weave, no glue, no gel, no hair curlers, no hot comb, no braids, no front lace wigs, nothing! They let their hair be natural. The problem with us is that we just can't seem to let go and let our hair be natural. We have been programmed to look a certain way which means we have to obtain a certain hair texture. I've been a victim of that thinking too. I would love to see one of these women and thank her for just letting her hair be itself... Just natural hair!

Grishma Ghimire: Everyone is talking about the hair but their skin is also very glowing and beautiful. Even the women in their 50's 60's look so young. They are really beautiful inside out.
