MEET hair fanatic Asha Mandela - whose 55ft locks are longer than a London BUS. But despite owning a world record, the 47-year-old wants to go BIGGER - even though doctors warn she could PARALYSE herself. Asha refuses to cut 'her baby' though - saying it has helped her overcome cancer, two strokes and two heart-attacks. Her hair weighs almost three stone - the weight of a reception-age child - and takes two days to wash and dry. She also worries that someone with a 'hair fetish' will cut a chunk off when she is not looking. However, there is one area it has not affected - her love life - and three-times married Asha even claims it adds 'a bit of spice'. Guinness gave Asha the title of world's longest dreadlocks in 2009 when they were 22ft long. But a new unofficial measurement this week (Aug 10) puts one particular lock of hair at 55ft 7ins.

Some women dream of having long flowing hair, but here in Atlanta Georgia, things have got a little out of control, meet Asha Mandela, who has the world's longest dreadlocks. A lot of people refer to me as a black Rapunzel. They refer to me as a legend. They refer to me as the ninth wonder of the world. People tell me all the time that I inspire them. 50 year old Asha began growing her hair in her 20s in a spiritual quest to change her life. I started growing my hair 25 years ago. I started having certain dreams and visions about to change in my lifestyle and everything about no way of life, but her controversial decision didn't please everyone. When I told my mom, I was gon na grill up. She said after I groomed to hear so nice with grease and all those things. This is what you want to do with the nice girls, eventually, winning her family over Asha been shot to fame in 2009 when her dreadlocks, which at a time measured 19 feet six inches, won a Guinness World Record over the years. Ash'S hair has grown even longer. Oh, my god, we actually ran out of tape. This is crazy and this measure tape is 25 feet. Long amazingly, one strand of hair has exceeded all expectations. 55 feet. 7. Inches! Oh my god! I don't believe this. This is I'm sweatin. This is too much and it's not just the length of Ash's hair. That'S extreme weigh in 39 pounds. Her locks are so heavy. She has to carry them in a basket on her back. Oh, my god, are you serious, however, Ash's hair could be causing some serious side-effects. The doctors seem to think that I have a curvature of my spine and it's the length and the weight of my hair. That'S making me curve more than I should I've heard. Doctors say to me that my neck has collapsed at the back and that I need to be careful. I can start having spasms and stuff in my spine and probably be paralyzed. It may be record breaking the ashes. Hair presents her with significant challenges, especially when it comes to washing. Is I wash my hair once a week? I used the wash it like three times a week and I was told at it it's too much once washed. It can take up to two days to dry, but the demands of her hair haven't caused problems in one area. Her love life, a lot of men, oh they're, crazy, for a woman with long hair. My hair has never posed a problem at intimacy. I think it adds a little spice aunty, despite the warnings. Asher is planning to keep on growing her hand. When I first started it was more of a spiritual journey. It wasn't anything to do with a fad or styling fashion. After 25 years of growth, my hair's really become part of me and I feel like if I ever cut my hair I'd, be really taken away. My life. Besides, that we have become one, so I couldn't imagine life at all. I will never cut my hair

Comrade Dyatlov: She truly is like a black Rapunzel. She's gorgeous, too! Her eyes are stunning and her hair is so beautiful.

Eren Jaeger: Imagine what it would feel like to cut all that off. Decades of having that much weight pulling on your head gone.

Ariana Ariel Oudansingh: she is like a Rapunzel but with dreadlocks

heyitzamelia .s: And yet I can’t even grow an inch of hair each year

Demonetization _369_: Her hair is beautiful, but I'm a little concerned about her health, then again it would be so painful to cut it!! ❤️

Anya Lilley: When I have super long hair I'll swing out of class instead of walking out of class

Ruby And Poppy: A boy In my school had really long hair, just past his shoulders , people would pick on him and wind him up for it, he came into school yesterday with short hair, like the rest of the boys then in assembaly he told everyone that he donated his hair for people with cancer ❤

slurpingidkmopthing: Atleast we all know that in 2019 Rapunzel is still living freely, not trapped in a tower but sadly with a collapsed neck.

Chim Cham: The fact that loc’ing one’s hair is considered controversial, even in the black community, is absurd and very telling. I am 8 months loc’d and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I love her hair and hope to grow mine for many decades to come but she perhaps should take care of her health. Locs aren’t usually heavy but at her length, it’s no surprise that they’re putting a strain on her spine and neck so she should be careful.

Ducky Troller: It 2019 now Every one now is imagining how long is it now

yungdumbgoth: They look so clean props to her for keeping them so nice

Spanish Dougla: Wow.. I met this amazing woman today.. she was so friendly n down to earth my goodness.. I can barely believe it..

hersh hansra: imagine her hair when is all straightened!

Araxie Rose: My hair grows pretty fast, and at the moment I'm trying to see how long I can get it before it totally drives me nuts. If you're going to grow it out that long, turning them into dreadlocks is actually a really good idea. I spend several minutes a day untangling mine! But my hair's so thick and frizzy, I'm pretty sure dreads would turn out horribly for me.

N0russian: I started my dread journey 3 months ago, I one day plan to be at this level. Best of luck to her with her locs!

TechnoGlowStick: Amazing! I remember seeing this woman on TV when I was a child! I wonder what she's doing now. . .

H.B.T.O: Absolutely love it ❤️ keep on queening ☺️

geo123123: Ok, great achievement but seriously... isn't having hair that long a total pain in the ass?

Raatee Keebonaa: Awesome! A true inspiration for us right now. I am so sorry I cut my hair but I have been growing again for 14 yrs. MWAA!!!

Gae: For all my sistas out there this queen actually has a wash hair day❤️

Jev: Just imagine how often she gets pain from getting hair pulled, stuck in a crack, etc. She is brave.

Michael Roberson: Not saying she's a radiant beauty or nothing like that but she's a Queen I love the locks but once they become life threatening it's time to cut them joints

Taylor Cathey: Hair Goals!!!!! Her Locs are just Gorgeouss ✨✨✨

Bizzy Lizzy: Just imagine if she ever got a haircut to a normal length... the whole salon floor would just casually be 25+ feet of hair

Aesthetic girl: You could make thousands of wigs from that hair length.

Maya Urbina: Did anyone notice how gorgeous her eyes were? I know you were looking at the hair, but her eye color is striking.

Kat ✨: That takes so many years of courage. That type of hair is really slow to grow. At the end of the year, it reaches about 4 inches. She's really lucky! I say go girl.

Unicorn Cakes: OMG?!is that real?!❤️❤️❤️Proud of her!

Maria Laleva: She have amazing hair

Life with Promyss: Omg she IS A LEGEND GIRL!!!

drug money: damn! her locks are amazing!

Enji Silverstone: She could rescue a child with her hair like the legends ✨

MesmericMichelle: Woooooww! She must have some very extreme and tedious maintenance!♥️

TP locks: I wonder how she uses her hair to “spice things up” ?!

Thang Nguyen: So, if she straightened her hair it would be even much longer ?

knifeboots: her locks are stunning and it's incredible how she's been able to keep them going, but i think a lot of the comments are confused. her hair attached to her scalp isn't anywhere near this length, and no single strand of hair is as long as her locks. her locks are made up of broken off hairs that are essentially tied together.

TP locks: Sheesh!! This is beautiful!

watermelon juul: U go girl!!

Vianna: Her: casually petting a fake cobra

M. Feddersen: Omg her eyes i cant They r sooo beutiful❤️

Joelle Johnson: I bet sometimes she’ll walk around with a book bag on her back, and it has her hair inside it as she’s walking so it won’t spill out

Sallyface_cos: She is beautiful, such an amazing energy

Just Renee: Beautiful BLACK woman!❤

cheeki breeki: she could have easily tied you up with so much hair

Jai: I LOVE YOUR LONG HAIR!!!!!! and it has been always my dream to have a long hair like you.

kailey: This was five years ago. Imagine the length now...

Şafak: THATSSSS BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Amanda Recovery Jones: Her back is def messed up! but kudos to her! they look amazing!

Rickia Barksdale: I shouldn't of never cut my hair when I had dreads SMH

Amaria Louis: Imagine her Hair in an afro

Vegan Squared: They looked good in the picture when she said she first started growing them. It's cool and crazy but it's hurting her back and that's just insane!

Constantin Denis: Thoose are the most perfect dreadlocks I've seen.

Jamel Patten: 25 years and All that?! She has all the Secrets

patricia Brooks: My hair is below my hips now. My hair was about 2 inches long and damaged from perms. I had a recurring dream of long hair. People compliment me on my hair everywhere I go.

Cicely Allen: I LOVE IT OMG

[milk n’ cookies]: I remember when I cut my hair when I was nine, after I was ten I wanted to get long hair. It’s my quest to get hair to my butt.

Diana Torres: Legends watching this again 7 years later. I’m watching this 4 years later or so cause I was really small when they posted this

hzuiel: So that length is more than 4 times the length a person would normally grow in that span of time. Also the braids go right up to her head. Since hair grows out of the head the only way to keep the braids going all the way to the scalp is regularly take them out and then rebraid the hair. There is no way that she regularly takes all those braids apart, hundreds and hundreds of feet worth, and redoes them. The hair has to be at least partly fake.

Sandeep Chauhan: Bit i still like nilashi 's hair that she cut recently ❤️❤️

SUNSHINE JOSEPH: You go girl!!!!! long hair rocks

Aileah Free: I love your hair! It's so long.

BLASPHEMY: I have had short hair for most of my life. I am finally growing my hair longer and I see this! ;o

_snowflakesnow_: In my dreams I always wanted long hair but when I saw this I was like never mind

Crazy Fox Lady: I love her hair so much its so long

Nora Pandora: This is an amazing woman!

Kalsoom sheikh: Unbelievable Bt I believe

Kalsoom sheikh: Unbelievable Bt I believe

Kalsoom sheikh: Unbelievable Bt I believe

Kalsoom sheikh: Unbelievable Bt I believe

Kalsoom sheikh: Unbelievable Bt I believe

Ayesha Ejaz: If I had super long hair, I would smack anyone with my hair if they try to wake me up from sleep

Dreamer Nina: Imagine how long it would take to brush Out the dreadlocks

Sophia Edits: still to this day shes still growing her hair.

Goddess of Music at Berklee: Lol, I see a few comments in regards to clean hair from people of diff ethnicities who obviously don't understand our hair. So, coming from a natural hair African American woman, It is actually standard that people with African hair texture wash their hair once every TWO weeks in order to seal in the moisture. Our hair can get weak if it is washed too frequently and break. The more oil we have in our hair the better. IT is not Nasty for us to do that. We can not wash our hair EVERY DAY like other races can. So, for her to do it once a week, idk it may work for her...and I have heard SOME people doing that, but for the most part we only do it every 2 weeks. So, please stop thinking that dreads and afros and that washing our hair every 2 weeks is nasty, because you obviously don't understand that these hair styles are natural for US. If someone of a diff race goes that long w/ out washing their hair , idk ....but please try to understand other people's culture b4 you attack it !! What's natural for us may not be natural for other ethnicities.

Endie: Her hair is so beautiful and long

Phil Dawson: Her hair ways more than me

animal world: This is amazing

jenna mary: Omg imagine how long it would take to brush or take them out. Lol. Or imagine how curly it would be

TheKillaShow: Shocked that some of her locks havent snapped off. Some were really thinning out.

step chickens: In 2019 it says it measures to 110 frickin feet!!

Briana Thomas: Wait. Is that her real hair growing straight from her scalp. Wow

An Idiot: And this was years ago Imagine how long her hair will be in about 10 years ;-;

Lola La Trailera: Are they real? Wow what a commitment. Kuddos to her for sticking with her wish of longest hair in the world.

Lee'Ansia Elegance: Her hair so beautiful. Black ppl hair tend to grow better when they keep it braided, twisted, or dreaded up Cause those are protected hair styles. The less combing, The more it grow

KingRon: I swear to god she was at my house in trindad.

anaya health and beauty tips: nice

Small..beansx: Never heard of her but woah

Golden_daii !: she is fine i love her dreads ❤

LilESal: I kinda want to cut it, like waist length. But she doesn’t want it cut so- Yeah.

Ritalin Club: Holy crap! It takes 2 days for her hair to dry and mine take a few mins

Endie: I always wanted to grow long hair but.....my mom didn't want that

Gold Spirit: I've been growing locs since I was 13. I'm 20 now and my hair is almost to but butt. I love it but if it were to ever cause me joint pains, I would cut it. And no way in heck would I let it get so long it would be touching the floor. That's too much.

Eric Norgren: You could wire the first half dozen floors of a skyscraper with all that, really beautiful dregs I must say.

Elizabeth Egbuchinem: Having to braid that- I braid my hair and it hurts my hand so bad imagine having to braid that

Phoenix: It's not really worth it if it's causing you health issues.

Slyfy: She's the Samson of our age :)
