I went to Chad to unveil the haircare secrets of an African ethnic group called the "Basara Arabs." The Basara Arab women are known to have very long naturally coarse hair that famously goes passed their rear ends. They cover their hair in a home made mixture that keeps their hair super moisturized and lubricated which is the reason given for why they say their hair never breaks; even from childhood.

The ingredients are very specific to Chad and sudan. I'm not sure if the ingredients in the powders they use can be found anywhere in the West but we are selling the miw already made.

Directions:

- The first step is to get the hair wet so they do so using regular water and alternate between the scented oil/hair grease mix and the chebe powder mix until the hair is fully saturated. They then re-braid the hair and once that braid is done they wet it again with water. They repeat that routine every 3 to 5 days.

Some people may initially think that their hair length is due to genetics, after inquiring on the subject the women said that it was most definitely NOT due to genetics since they do not apply shébé powder mixture to their bangs which, in turn, stay short. However the parts of the hair which they do use the powder mixture on in their routine doesn't break and grows very long and strong.

The texture of the hair do not look kinky because the weight of the powder relaxes the hair and gives it a curly appearance and with this weight the hair does not shrink. On the other hand, their fringes have a kinky texture.

First song is Chadian Arabic and the two others are Sudanese Arabic.

Song 1 : Un chanteur tchadien pecos

Song 2 : منتصر هلالية & شكر الله عزالدين - معزورة

Song 3 : منتصر هلالية و شكرالله عزالدين - القمر ليلة تمامو

Today, I'll take you on a journey to meet women from an ethnic group in Chad called the `` Badsada Arabs'' ( ). The defining feature of this ethnicity is their long, frizzy hair, which often reaches their thighs. They agreed to share their beauty secrets with me, so I went to find out how they make their hair grow out so long and the recipe for their hair treatments. They coat their hair with a mix of ingredients which keeps their hair extremely hydrated and moist. This stops it from breaking from childhood right through until they are adults. [ foreign stringed instrument playing ] ( singing in foreign language ). The mix is made mainly of a grain called `` shevay'', a grain called'mechlava su bien'', a type of stone called `` misic'', which gives the mix a nicer smell, cloves a resin called `` samurh'' and fragranced oil. The lady who's invited us roasts and grinds each ingredient. She then passes them through a sieve until they are all in powder form. Next, each each woman chooses their favorite hair butter or oil, which they will add to their mixture. Traditionally, women use beef fat, but this was swapped due to its very strong smell. Before applying the mixture she wets the hair, then she applies the powder mix and the chosen oil in alternation until the hair is completely saturated. She then replats the hair and wets. It again, this ritual is repeated every five days. Many people think their long hair is linked to their genes. So I asked them if it was, they said ``, No, it wasn't at all genetic. They don't apply the `` shevay'' to their fringe & that stays short, whereas they do apply it all over the rest of their hair, which grows long and it doesn't break

Miss Sahel: Hi guys after so many request I translated this video for my english speakers. Before asking a question please read the entire info box may be the answer to your question is in it. I did a FAQ video so please check it out https://youtu.be/3vqodfPSVRg xoxo

Yui Tachibana: Beautiful hair, beautiful blemish-free skin, beautiful children, hell, even the elders have a youthful glow. This isn’t just a hair regimen, we need a LIFE regimen

Jess Tiss: Tbh the most beautiful part of the hair treatment is the loving kindness and trust between the two women. So sad how jealousy and bitterness destroy more than hair between so many of us

Jamielynn Thomas: Can we just admire how beautiful all of them are? I actually cried because as an African American, I know very little about my family roots which I'm currently searching for. From looking at this video, I see nothing but beauty & grace. This is what society don't want you to see all this beauty. Thank you for posting this

Antionette S: BASICALLY MOISTURIZE YOUR HAIR AND PUT IT IN A PROTECTIVE STYLE!! I shaved my head skin bald last year due to heat damage and breakage, took care of it, did protective styles, washed only once per week, and heavily used grease and leave in conditioners, my hair is currently at neck length in only 12 months. And no I’m not “mixed” or anything like that. I just took care of my hair and it grew, anyone can do it, it just takes patience.

loreen k: I'm from Chad, My grandmother has hair down to her knee with no grey hairs.

Aliyah McAlpine: this brought tears to my eyes. because as an african american, I which I knew my roots that led back to Africa. I wish I knew my family there, and could visit them to learn their culture. It really saddens me, honestly.

Kayla McFadden: Its the cheekbones for me. It’s the colorful clothes and jewelry. It is the women chillin in the “salon” for me. The camaraderie for me. The PROCESS for me. So beautiful.

Day6atemywallet: I’m so proud that African traditions and values are coming alive in western world

Everything cute and classy: I'm so thankful for youtube. My hair is growing longer now because I have been educating myself with these videos. We did not have this growing up in the 80's and 90's, so we didn't see how black women around the world grow their 4c hair. Growing up, I used so much alcohol-based spritz, perms with hot irons that fried my hair and detangled my hair like I was raking the yard. Now I care for it like this lady here does and I'm starting to see my transformation. I can't wait to see how long mine can grow.

happygolucky: I watched this video with my 10 y/o daughter and we were AMAZED at how tight of a bond these beautiful people had, just caring for eachother. Can we adopt this in America? IJS.

Fatima: This is the first time someone ever noticed my country I'm so ecstatic

Be free: Be careful before the wig companies go and try to bribe them for their hair . People are evil

Lee-Anne Sharpe: What I got from this is to moisturize my hair every 5 days and keep it in a protective style.

Blair🦋: I think it's so beautiful how different cultures find ways to take care of their bodies and their hair... Thank you to these Chadian women for enlightening us and also Miss Sahel for providing a platform for them to do so!!

Pari Es: In iran we use henna , cedr , chamomile , hibiscus, coffee... powders mix them well with egg yolk and apply on scalp

fi fi: Water, oil, then powder. The herb powder locks and seals the moisture inside like a clay pot. I love it

Crystal O: Imagine bottling the ingredients and selling it here in the states. I would DEFINITELY BUY!!!!!

Sew Pink Sew Vintage: If they opened salons in the us I would be a permanent customer and all my family! Absolutely gorgeous!!!!❤️❤️❤️

peacelovejoynpurple: Africa is so amazing. It’s so diverse and rich in culture ❤️. This video makes me proud to be a person of African decent. Also I could sit and watch the hair dresser do this all day.

xx_aniya: My Great grandma is from Chad and was raised there I always wondered how she had hair so long I asked her and she said when she was young they were very natural and used natural sources I then asked her if it was possible for my hair to be that long she responded of course at this time she lived with us so she proceeded to use this technique and I have beautiful kinky hair like her I do this on my sisters hair and my cousin we have lovely hair my great grandma truly had the biggest impact on my life I will do this on my own daughter once she is born in April

S. ANITA: I am indian and I appreciate the natural way of taking care of hair without chemicals. The women are all so beautiful and feminine ! Also, the baby sleeping peacefully behind as the women do their hair made this video so tranquil.

Simon Fox: I love this so much , and I don’t understand how there’s so many haters disliking this video

Lydia Ndapandula: The music makes me proud to be African

SuckMe Taehyung: Tchad is a beautiful country. I visited once. Many of them have long shiny hair specially the late generation. Their elders don't have white hair or anything like that. They don't use chemical product, shampoo etc it's all natural oil and cleansing stuffs. Such a good country

Naturally High: Note that they're also super gentle with their tresses! That must have a hand in the length retention as well!

HL Watts: Genetics obviously play a huge role in their hair length. Just like skin color, hair color and texture, the hair’s growth cycle is determined by genetics. Their hair doesn’t grow long in the front because they’re suffering from traction alopecia do to the constant pulling from the braids...

Toon She: This is possible ladies, I did the big chop years ago and in 4 years, I gained 15 inches. Recently I got lazy and didn’t really see too much growth but ima go back to moisturizing more to get my hair to grow again

La Trice R Herring: So essentially what we've known... hydration is key to preventing breakage, however genetics definitely plays a role in growth. I do like that she had what appeared to be, minimal shedding. Notice how it seemed the scalp wasn't touched at all; no bloodflow stimulation, no adding additional oil. Great piece of information, thank you

aureliefille: I love how they grow their hair so long but you barely get to see it unless you are at home because they wear their Hijab in public. This was such a beautiful video. I’m glad that someone highlighted this. Ppl just assume all Blacks and Africans wear weave. It just goes to show how ignorant ppl can be if you don’t explore cultures outside your own. Even if you can’t travel, there are so many books and videos dedicated to cultures from around the world.

janashia me: BLACK POEPLE ARE SOOOO BEAUTIFUL

lovelyalleycat: I love seeing ppl using plants to nourish their skin/hair, it a testament to how in-tune they are with nature around them. In the west, its almost always solely chemical

ll: This is the key to all my problems thank you so much much for sharing with us edit by the way it works seeing great results hair started to grow to much so I had to cut it but it's a demo recommendation from me

Trish Alvarez: Look how perfect those braids are. no sign of strands peaking through. I bet if we measure each twist or curve of the braid they're the same sizes.

Michael Miller: That's so beautiful. Black Women Rock!!! Africa Forever!!!♥️♥️♥️

CanisLupus1987: So beautiful to see the solidarity and care these women have. I care for my own hair because Portuguese hair dressers don't know what to do with curls

♡BUNNY♡: Long hair is so beautiful... this makes me sad I've been cutting mine off... but it's so much work! So much respect to those who keep it long, it's not for the faint of heart!

Babeena_Gt _: No perms, no relaxers , just natural and beautiful

Ruby O: So proud to be an African ❤️

tang5843: Not trying to start anything, but I hope these beautiful people are getting credit. Financially and in other ways.

wallysk: Amazing piece @Miss Sahel - thank you <3 Curious as to how they protect their hair at night while the chebe is on

Nita Jordan: We're all from African descent if you have read the holy scriptures the garden of Eden was in Africa! We love what we don't know, looking doesn't move you if you were raised in the culture you could understand their traditions and respect it, but being in America people have Vanity, this is a wonderful look into their world and God has allowed us to see it through your lens, such a humbling experience. Thank you for allowing us to see inside from the outside of these women's salons. I have been using Chebe for two weeks and since I have begun wearing hair covering I will try it, maybe not as much but slowly. Once again thank you for this trip! Be blessed.

Kingston Lucas: As an African boy i’m so excited to get this cause my children , sisters , girlfriends , nieces and nephews all African I know I come here to learn it for them

Joker411: I’m from TChad and my mother uses Camel Fat, I think it’s her favourite. It does wonders to our hair

allinone: Thank you for specifying that this is in Chad and not just "Africa." It's so annoying when I watch stuff and the person is like "this is from Africa" or something. I'm always like, well where in Africa?! Africa is huge and has over 50 countries! So thank you.

Melissa Rushing: Thank you for this beautiful video of such beautiful black women. It really encourages me to take better care of my hair than I have been. God bless you & all the people who were filmed in this video, in the precious name of Jesus, Amen!

Linnah The Explorer: The reason why their hair glows big is because they leave it alone Thank you for visiting there and bringing us with you, I will make sure to travel there Greetings from a fellow youtuber

Leasa Fortune: Thank you for this superb video and the music is absolutely sublime, perfect for the visuals.

marcia peak: What a wonderful video. I was wondering if the fragrant oil something like essential oils or is it an oil that they prepare themselves?

TheLovelyAfri: thank you. I love how more people are learning about the people's of Africa, especially countries like Tchad

Julia V: I loved this!!!! Such beauty in Mother Africa!

Mickie9Knives87: Can it be stored after being mixed in with oils or do you have to use it when you make it? Also, does it work on gray hair?

Josie Dudouit: Great stuff! The ladies should sell a pre-mixed version of this organic concoction many people including myself would buy it...

Chanel Rose: I absolutely love to see beautiful informational videos such as these, but I absolutely dislike to see people in the comments below arguing with each other. It absolutely perplexes me as to how such beautiful content could bring out such negative energy. Not judging guys, I have my moments too, as no one is perfect, Ijs that it's disheartening. Peace & Love

Judo Nomi: Forget the hair for a moment, they are all so beautiful!!! I saw some kids too that need their cheeks pinched lol, so cute! omg

Samriddhi Soperna: I don't really know why this was in my recommened, but I am not complaining! It's always so interesting to learn about different beautiful cultures.

Ema Tique: This is incredible. I only wish I could try this formula

Bethany Davidson: So does this mixture work on any texture hair (ie a 2B vs 4C)? Just wondering if there is a lot of hair texture variation among their tribe.

Bailey G: This is something that do few in the IS have. I love how they are so connected to family and community. They have so little but so much more in many ways. Beautiful video. Thank you

sashakimi31: Much respect. There are many beautiful things in Africa (the people, the culture, the diamonds, the struggles, the strength etc.) Proud to be african! I pray for this tribe and these people because many people will probably want what they have.

Candas Taylor: Chattel slavery really did a number on us. All of our traditions were stripped from us. It pisses me off!!

Valanddidz Dilenga: After watching this then you will know that mousse, plat iron, detangler products, braiding, hair goreth products are things that have been here since thr ahe of time They hv just been rebranded

Jodice Edwards: I wish there was a salon like this in my area.

Marinalva Nunes: I love their culture

you tube: I’m so great full to be native and to be a culture that has natural beautiful long hair to the ankles and back of knees and natural highlights amen I swear I could never thank god enough for blessing me with all this greatness!!!

CanisLupus1987: OK I need to get this routine. My curly hair never gets long enough without knotting and splitting

Abby A: No stress just blessed. Look at those happy faces.

May Dicas: Ficou lindo

Maiiam: Chad women beauty starts within. Did you notice they smile, genuine love and nurturing for each other. No envy no hatred. I really love this video. Hair growth starts within. This is love!

Bonnie Spencer: They’re so beautiful and their hairs are just breath taking

gsr4079: putting aside the long beautiful hair for a moment - it is so refreshing to see ppl living in harmony with nature. the background caught my eye most - women together with the children and others doing household tasks like sewing etc. the hair product itself could not be more natural - they used ingredients they probably grew themselves. then there is the generational bonds of doing each others hair every 5 days. makes me want to move to Africa.

Sarah Gwyllt: My Canadian parents didn't allow me to cut my hair for years, I had disobeyed them at school and in grade 7 I cut my hair for the first time. I hadn't cut it by much but my mother was so angry at me that when I go home she cut it to my shoulders, she used to brush and braid my hair everyday. At it's longest length it was past my butt. I don't really miss it, It hurt my head a lot to brush it and people would always stare or pull at my braids.

Severus Snape: 0:26 that has to be the neatest braids that I've ever seen.

Haitian Beautee: Once we learn how to properly take care of our hair it can grow long and beautifully. People have this misconception black Women cant grow long beautiful hair. YouTube alone proves that is false with the amount of black queens natural long hair videos I've watched. Wish I took pride in my natural hair growing up, my hair probably would've been down my ass. It's never too late and I'm Definitely starting my natural hair journey and taking my daughter on that journey with me. My daughter has so much pride in her natural hair and that makes me so happy. I'm teach her what I was not taught growing up as a young black girl.

Grace James: I love the music and the long hair. Thanks for sharing!
