radodrill: I have been growing my hair out and it is now about collarbone length. I can honestly say that I get way more compliments on my look (particularly from women) with long hair than I did with short hair. I typically have it down, but also wear it in a low or high ponytail. All the people I've talked to about it say it looks good on me. I believe that it's not the length of the hair that matters, but rather the how it's kept/styled. It's just that since most men have short hair, those with long hair get more attention (negative if the hair is dirty/messy). I saw a video where women were asked if they preferred men with long hair or short hair then why. One long haired women said she preferred men with short hair because long hair is dirty/greasy; not realizing tat by that logic her hair is dirty/messy.

Dan Tan: Hey Megan, heard your views. I'm a slim guy who doesn't really care how the world thinks of me. Masculinity don't mean shit to me - I personally love my petite size more than muscles. I once kept my hair long, and tied it in a man bun (or bun as you would have it, minus the 'man'). I do agree with you on the professional bit - men look more professional in long hair especially in corporate jobs and heads of states and whichever posts that require a professional countenance. However, there's the ART side to life, and this I heartily embrace while giving up the NEED to look society's professional. I find that long hair suits me better because (refer to Rhys Dennis's explanation), I look more 'organic' and natural being who I am in long hair. Who cares what society says of men with long hair? I will not go so far as to label you shallow as some other commenters have done. However, let it be noted that it takes certain galls for a man to leave his hair long - unlike women who are deemed normal, guys have that extraterrestrial label of "hippie" and "weirdo" or "nerd" slapped on them for having metal/luscious locks. I respect guys who have long hair because they have the guts to be themselves, and trust me, girls I've met have expressed likewise - they like guys to be who they are. Or maybe the women I've met and the women you've hung out with are totally different cliques. My type of women believe in being organic, natural, that no makeup and tousled looks out of bed is sexier than makeup and shit. No facade, Ms. Collins. Live well and be yourself. Secondly, women plastered in 'rape face paint' (make up) should really think about their own insecurities - if you can't leave the house without rape face paint then you have HUGE issues. Most girls think it's OK to put on a face that's not theirs to shag sone poor guy - but the trauma it causes when he sees your real face should be a punishable crime.

Joseph: I think the problem here is equating men with long hair to always having a manbun. The closest thing I came to a manbun was a low half-ponytail which is more a historic cultural style. There are also men that just grow and don't take proper care of it (as we aren't taught how to) and that gets them bad looks

If you cut off your hair in order to be more generally attractive to a potential partner, you will only attract women with average style. If you enjoy the average look that’s great. If you get bored by basic average that’s not great. Standard short cuts will also make you less attractive to potential partners that do not like standard boring style. If you’re hoping to meet a woman who finds a caveman attractive, dress and groom like a cave man. If you’re hoping to meet someone who likes the average current style, dress and groom in the average current style. Just do what makes you look in the mirror and say “You look good, Handsome. I can understand why a lot of women wouldn't like men with long hair as there is a cultural preference to shorter hair and a lot of guys with long hair tend not to care for their hair in terms of grooming and keeping looking clean and nice. I take initiative to keep my hair clean and and make myself look as professional as i can (Not just in hair but in clothing as well). Thankfully, i have fine straight hair that is super easy to manage, so it practically takes me like less than 2 minutes daily to take care of my hair.

Short hair a signifier of safety, maturity, togetherness etc... and it seems the women who are more attracted to men with short hair tend to also be more conventional in their tastes (music, fashion...) and generally follow mainstream trends. I’ve found the women who like men with long hair tend to be more unconventional in their tastes and are more open minded when it comes to other aspects of their lives.
