Confession: Older Women With Long Hair

This week's 3-minute confession is about hair, specifically long hair. Do you think women of a certain age shouldn't have long hair? Have you ever had comments made about something you do purely because of your age?

Hey guys it's Carrie Anne from EverythingMom and it's confession time. As no doubt you've noticed. I have a pretty long hair.. I didn't grow my hair long with the intention of having long hair.. As you know, as a parent, your personal needs always seem to go to the back of the list., Taking care of things, work, taking care of your family, your kids and then stuff, for yourself, at least for me, always kind of go to the bottom. And more Things push that list down., So getting my haircut was always sort of at the bottom of my list., And one day my mother-in-law came over and made a comment about how long my hair had been growing, how long it has become. And then she followed it with So why you doing that trying to relive your youth And it was don't get me wrong. I love my mother-in-law, but there was something when she said that, and I know there is this kind of stereotype, that when women get over 40, they shouldn't have long hair.. I don't know what that is, but I've encountered that philosophy from a number of people., And so when she made that comment about that, I was growing my hair because I was trying to relive my youth, something clicked in my head to say. You know what I think, I'm just not going to cut it. I've seen a lot of women, my age with short hair. I've seen a lot with long hair.. I'Ve always thought of it as a personal choice and not based on the age thing.. Actually, that's the other thing once you become a mom, that's a whole other category.. Now the you're, a mom, you shouldn't be doing those types of things.. So I'm curious, if you have ever encountered someone making a comment about how you dress, how you wear your hair, the books, you read the way you behave., Making a judgment, call that they were not things you should be doing purely because your age., If so, leave In the comments below, because I'm sure I'm not the only one., So that's my little confession for this week that, yes, I have long hair but in all reality the reason it got long was purely sort of a statement against people who had specifically my mother-in-law, but People in general, who thought women my age shouldn't, have long hair., As always thanks for stopping by., If you so desire, I don't forget to subscribe.. You can see me every Sunday with new confession, a new thought. That'S going through my head that maybe you can relate to., Or else you can find me here. Talking books for kids, family travel and just some other fun family stuff.. That'S it for me., Caio!

Cinder Roxy: I am 51 years old and my hair is a couple inches past my tailbone, the longest it has ever been in my life. I have heard all kinds of nasty comments, especially here on YouTube. My mom and grandmother think it's too long, but guess what? I don't give a flying eff! :)

OurHumbleLife: The Mrs. here. I'm 57, with waist length hair. My husband loves it, and MOST men prefer long hair. Some criticisms are made through envy, unfortunately. Never do something _because_ someone else is critical or doesn't like _your_ choice. Your hair is healthy and beautiful!

James Cowan: Keep your long hair and make yourself stand out! Don't be like all the other women! Don't be afraid to be different!

Hans Becker: “Age is irrelevant.  With long hair, a woman’s beauty is timeless.”

Chris B: I have a lot of tattoos and get disapproving glances very often, especially when I go to my child's school or when we take our kids to a restaurant. This is my life.. my body... live your authentic life. How you choose to decorate yourself is up to you. You are beautiful.

abasketboy: EverythingMom, you're a typical example of how a woman doesn't need to be 18 years old to have nice looking long hair! Do I think women over a certain age shouldn't have long hair? In the Western world, prior to the 1st World War, it was never a problem. Also, in many cultures today, in Eastern Europe & in many parts of Asia, it still isn't a problem. Cultures have changed & often not for the better. Older women often look beautiful with long hair so going AGAINST the prevailing (Western) culture makes real sense - you look great!

Cathy Goltsoff: Most objections are from other women who have short hair. My man is also somewhat "jealous". he likes long hair but maybe not on me. He may not find it attractive on me but I'm sure he notices other men who do. I have had several haircuts with no style and I had to get it shaped up and/or a hairstylist who chops away. I think long hair is good for me at this time in my life. A nineteen year old can practically cut off all their hair and still look beautiful. I need my long hair!!

Heather Riggins Music: Keep your long hair! Totally agree -- no age limit on hair length. You look great!

Mrs. N’s World- rural Japan.: HI FIVE!!! I'm 56 and I decided to grow my hair out...... Because! I want to! I love your hair!

NeoScota: Isnt it utter shit that women feel the need to cut their hair when they grow older? Yours looks lovely, and mines long and I'm still growing ;) I have had uber short hair and I liked it but its too harsh for me now and long hair suits me. Theres something aging and depressing when a woman goes for a dowdy, neither here nor there shorter style....it looks crap. Grow it out, funk it up or let it do its natural thing. But dont go get a mullet type style to match your bland "it will do" tshirt and combats because society says so....thats just some bs because older women can be very sexy heheheh :D Even in my sweats I still feel like me and sexy because I followed my own rules :)

SarahlabyrinthLHC: I'm 52 and my hair is almost at my knees. I love it and am not cutting it. I have had multiple family members tell me I am too old for long hair, that I look like a witch, a hippie, etc.etc. I wear it up 99%of the time and I'm growing it for ME. I'm tired of listening to everyone else and ending up with short hair, which I hate on myself. I want to be ME, and the "ME" inside has long hair and at my age, it's now or never. Plus I notice that many men give compliments on it and my husband tells me it looks sexy. So why wouldn't I have it long? You keep on growing... :)

Jackieblue beautytips: I have long hair and love it and I'm 60 !!!:)

Anthony Thompson: I like your long hair very much; it's a beauty asset for you. BTW, did you notice all the compliments you are getting are from guys?  :  )

Stubborn Mule: I'm 49 and like many other middle aged women sport longer locks. Two years ago my older son cut my hip length hair off (with my permission) because he said it went on and on and on. Even though it looked fine I didn't' maintain the shorter length and find myself always growing it back to hip. It's almost back to where it was. My mom once said to me, "You need to get a more mature hair cut", and gave me a hair salon gift voucher which I used on one of my kids. Ha ha

Lars Rapunzel: my wife is 48 and her hair is to her knees. looks great. keep growing. do not cut.

Yvonne Bremer: Hi. Love you in long hair. I am 68 and have blonde, silver, gray and white streaked waist length hair. I work out at the gym with my grown granddaughter. I dress as I feel, young at heart but appropriate. I wear my hair up, down, braided, or in a ponytail.. I love all types of music I dance through the house with my dog. I'm special to my grand children. You have to live for yourself, not for others, do what makes you happy as long as you are not hurting anyone.

tomr05: Your hair is so beautiful!

Deanna Kennedy: Yes someone asked me why my hair was so long and how I should be matronly

Lin Smith: I'm 56 and have about 6 more inches to my hips! age means nothing, I have always wanted my Kim Basinger long blonde hair and I have it lol  people tell me I look 36 another added bonus hehehehe.......

Vena HOWE: I have long hair and I love it and I am not about to cut it,so do not cut your's I think it is great
