How To Cut Your Hair In Layers Without Losing Length!

Have you ever had a bad experience in a hair salon? Tell me your stories in the comments!!! Thumbs up for more hair videos :D

I hope you find this method helpful, let me know how it goes for you if you cut your hair at home for the first time! I have been trimming my own layers and length since grade ... Idk. Sometime during high school, and I have been cutting my own bangs since I can remember. The few times I have gone to a salon to get my bangs or hair cut, it's been a disaster :( If you can relate, I hope this video helps you out and inspires you to learn!

Let me knowwwwww *mom from mean girls voice*

Hi everyone welcome back to my channel. I'M really excited, I think a lot of you are excited for this video too. This is how I cut my hair myself at home, and ever since I told you guys that I cut my hair myself at home. A lot of you been asking for a tutorial and the method that I use is really interesting. It'S very simple and it's definitely beginner friendly because I sure, as hell, don't know what I'm doing, but it actually leaves your hair looking a little bit longer a little bit thicker and more voluminous when it's done. So I love that because I can keep my length and I can get rid of all the little dead ends and split ends and everything like that now, if you watch my videos, you know that I have naturally curly hair and I do love the way that This haircut translates to curly hair. It really makes your curls pop because of the little layers we put in, and I just love it so much, but I do straighten it before. I start cutting it so that I can get everything nice and even - and I also wanted to mention that my scissors are from Sally's and I will leave a link below for those. I think that's everything I wanted to go over give this video a thumbs up. If you find it helpful - and I hope you learned something - let's get started, okay now that my hair is tangle, free and it's brushed through I'm going to section it into two parts. You could choose as many parts as you like. I have long layers and I have two basic layers, so I like to section in two just to keep that format in my hair and then I'm going to brush through my hair a little bit more. I'M taking a section about three inches wide, and this is going to be the first section that I start cutting after I brush through it. I like to smooth my fingers down and I like to keep about two inches of hair peeking out the end, and what this is going to do is it's going to help. You know exactly where to stop cutting so that I don't cut my hair too short. So you can see here I'm taking my scissors and I'm cutting on an angle and that's to get rid of the bulk of the hair that I want gone and then, as I get closer to the length I want, I start cutting up into the hair and What that does is it creates a really wispy effect, which is great for a beginner with haircutting. You definitely want to cut up into the hair and not straight across, because the straight-across is going to give you a really dramatic blunt cut, which can be really pretty. But when you do it wrong, it can look really uneven and choppy and that's very easy to do. Unfortunately, especially when we don't have experience, cutting hair just cutting right straight across into your hair, it usually turns out pretty bad, and then you have to upgoing shorter than you anticipated. So I recommend just cutting up into the hair. It'S a very safe way to do. Your hair and it looks really really pretty so I have a bunch of long layers after cutting into it with that wispy method, and it actually ends up looking longer than when I started because of all those dead ends being gone. The hair just ends up looking thicker and more voluminous and fuller at the end, which gives the illusion of longer hair. So I really really like it. I'M going to start working on the top section now, okay, so I'm going to take my hair about a three inch section and brush it forward and because I'm brushing it forward, it's going to help me cut some layers into my hair. When I let this go, it's going to create a like short to long, gradient effect, which is what I like for my layers. So now, I'm just going to take the hair and I'm going to cut pretty deep into it. A lot of you ask what kind of layers I have, and this is how I do them when you wear your hair, naturally curly, if you have naturally curly hair. This is also a really good way to get more definition in your curls and just have everything. Look a little more even you can see that it gradients down from short to long, so when your hair is curled or curly, either way, it's just going to look really really pretty, and it gives you this nice luminous effect. So, as I was working on this section of my hair, I noticed it was really dry and there was a lot of split ends. So I'm going to show you what I like to do when I find an area of my hair, like that, I like to twirl it and twist it until it's nice and tight and then once I look at it, I can see all of these little split Ends that are just fraying out the sides. So I take my scissors and I just cut them right off, and this is really really good if you don't want to cut your hair at home, but you just want to take care of the split ends in between your hair salon visits. This is definitely something I recommend you don't have to cut the length of your hair, but you can get rid of the split ends. Okay, so I'm going to finish up and then I'm just checking my hair to make sure everything's even and it is, I love how much more body my hair has after and I kept the length, which is amazing and that's not something that usually happens when I Go to the salon definitely leave a comment below if you have any kind of hairdressing story where you've gotten more hair taken off than you asked for or any kind of like hair nightmares definitely leave the comments below, because I would love to hear those stories and Tell me what you did about it like: if you've had your hair bleached off or if you had your hair cut way too short, did you tell the hair stylist like? Was that something to you? That'S not. You feel comfortable with. I usually just end up walking into the car and then I start bawling my eyes so tell me how you dealt with it and leave your comments below. I really look forward to talking to you guys soon and I can't wait to read your stories. Bye,

Sheetal: this is amazing!! i love the way you cut your hair..the layers blend so beautifully! I also have a diy haircut video on my channel and I show how I cut my layers, but I am always so curious to see how other girls do it. You have gorgeous hair girl!!

But First, Coffee: LOVED these! I seriously never like the way the salon does it and I'm always trying new places over and over. I've given up and almost always trim at home so I LOVED this video!! Thanks for sharing

Katte'n White: I hate going to salons. I never go. Every time I think about it, I think about how many ways they can screw up my hair. And people who say, Calm down its just hair. It will grow.... People please.... It takes years to finally have it as long as you used to have it. I have to deal with this almost Half my life.

thereddiva: Thank you so much for this tutorial! I cut my own hair for the first time following your instructions, and it came out *exactly* how I wanted it :)

Yasmin Aranda: OMG THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! I've been waiting for this for so long literally my heart skipped a beat when I saw you uploaded this video Because I have curly hair and the worst hair experience I've had is that I wanted layers & I wanted long layers but I turned out having them but they were a straight across cut nd my hair was as long as yours but turned out REALLY short. I looked like a poodle since then I've never been back at a salon I just get my mom to cut the trims and my layers are almost full grown and have no volume in my hair now I can actually have volume nd keep the length thanks to you Alexsandra! I ❤️ you so much keep it up with the videos! xoxo

S J: This video has been my go to for the past year! It helped me ease off my hair cutting addiction (because I couldn't find a self-cut I was happy with) and finally my hair is starting to grow long and lovely (: love it!

Lux Chevis: I can't afford a professional hair cut right now, so thank you so much for sharing your tips with us! I'll be trying them out soon. Now, one of the last times I had a hair cur I asked for "A little past the shoulder" and pointed with my finger. I left with a wet mop of hair and something a little too close to the chin. It felt more like a bob. I was in shock. I wasn't sure I realized just how short it was until I got home and could really inspect the damage. I cried for hours. It was everything I didn't want my hair to look like.

Muzigal: I watched this a couple of times, went into the bathroom, used this technique, and it worked GREAT! The only thing I messed up a "little" bit, was cutting it a little too short on one side, but used the technique to even out the hair, and now it's exactly how I wanted it. Thank you Alexandra!

Anna Rosvall: So, I have very curly hair like you. I used to go to the hair dresser about 1-2 times per year until 2006. I went to this new salon and I sat down and my hair dresser gets this horrified look on her face and she like started to poke my hair, like she didn't want to touch it. She asked me what happened. I asked, what do you mean? And then she asked me: Did you fail at perming your hair at home or something? And I think I squeeked something like: No, I look like this. She refused to brush my hair, and said it would be best if I did it myself! Then she cut my hair very short (my curls need lenght to weigh them down) and now I looked like a clown. I couldn't wear my hair down for at least a year and I didn't set foot in a salon for 8 years...

MimApril: Love your DIY videos, A!<3 and this one was absolutly a-m-a-zing! But I know layers arent good for my suuper thin hair.. maybe I will only try this method for my split ends, I have soo many of them!;)

heiditruth: Thanks so much! I have the exact same hair type as you (super thick curly) and I wear my hair natural as much as straightened. This turned out great! <3

Heidi Something: This is a nice, well done video, with good lighting and all. I appreciate that. Also, I wanted to do a tiny bit of a trim to punch up my waves and tried the tips on my shoulder-length hair, and just a few snips all around livened it up. Thanks!

kimberface: Luckily I always go to the same hairdresser and she's so good about ALWAYS showing me how much she's going to cut before she cuts it. This is an excellent thing to do to avoid too much being chopped off. Love her:)

Fanny Saucedo: Absolutely love your hair! ❤️ I would really want to see your updated contour & highlight routine (:

Alina Padilla: Yes! I stopped going to hair salons. I cut my own hair now. Now I don't spend money to have other women ruin my hair! I once had a lopsided cut, it wasn't incredibly noticeable, but I had to fix it myself when I got home. No one could ever layer my hair right. It looks so better now that I do it myself. Love your hair! Big fan of naturally curly hair!

Babybats23: One time I went to a "professional" salon to get my hair trimmed because it was going to be yearbook picture day &&what I asked for was to trim off some damaged split ends because they looked orange and made my hair look like a broom. I told the lady I wanted 3 inches cut off, && she said no problem. My hair hung down by my elbows, and after the haircut my hair ended up so short I looked like Buttercup from the PowerPuff Girls.! I was angry, but I didn't want to argue with the woman so I just payed and went straight to Sally's Beauty Store and bought some extensions to fix my problem.. After that incident, I just cut my own hair :) I've been doing this for atleast 3 years now..

Ashleigh Nicole Batterson: I went into this small, but professional hair salon once and asked to have my hair trimmed and to have a few long layers put in (my hair was down to my lower back and super thick). I had maybe an inch and a half of split ends that I wanted removed and she cut off about 6 inches leaving it at the center of my back. It didn't look bad, but it wasn't what I wanted. Moral of the story, do not tell your stylist to take off dead ends! They will take much more than that! I cut my own hair now :)

Hailey Poland: I want to say thank you thank you so much lol after many many tutorials, this is the 1st one iv found to work for me and actually turns out really pretty and like I actualy had it done at the salon, iv had the worst experiences getting hair cuts, either there to busy talking to pay attention to what they're customer is asking or they take wat u say and make it the way they like it ya no thank you my last trip was 4 years ago and after taking years to grow my hair out almost to my belly button (best way I can describe the length) I really wanted long layers and 2 inch cut off well as she saying no u should cut it into a shoulder length a line, I thanked her for her suddgestion and politely declined about 10 mins in she answers the phone and is talking about plans for her night for about 20 mins than came back to me and she just chopped my hair off even shorter that a shoulder length a line my longest layer started at my chin and says I told you it would look great on you, p.s I was turned away from the mirror and like in 5 mins she turned me around and my hair was gone I didn't even get the chance to stop her, i paid said thanks walked out to my car and broke dwn and cried for 3 hours lol so thank you for ending my night mare lol

Heather Campbell: Your hair is gorgeous and because of your videos I've been inspired to start wearing my hair natural more. I finally love my curls! :)

Dorie Sarsok: This tutorial was very very helpful. I researched several do-it-yourself tutorials, each with a slightly different method. Yours however, worked the best for me. My hair is very baby fine with a soft wave, and dirty blonde, requiring a gentle colorant. Because of this I stopped using curling irons and blow dryers years ago, in order to minimize damage. Hair salons were always so hard on my baby fine hair with all those harsh chemicals and aluminum foils, which caused half my hair to come out, and bleached it more than necessary - as well as the fact that they are just too scissor happy! As a result, I simply stayed out of beauty salons. I found a gentle non-ammonia colorant in the store, and simply let my hair grow down my back, only trimming the ends, with my husband's help for the back. As a result, I received numerous compliments for years, on my beautiful natural looking long blonde hair. Now, at 68 years old, my hair has been going through the post-menopausal thinning and fragility, so that I finally had to figure out a shorter style, as long hair meant the weight caused it to fall out more easily. . But, simply cutting it straight across no longer worked, as it looked too boring, and the wave did not fall right anymore. Even my kids began to tell me I needed some style. But I feared those damn salons - Soooooo - I went online - and Voila! Your tutorial has given me a very cute hair style, which works perfectly with my naturally wavy hair, so that I can continue simply washing and naturally drying. Thank you so very Much - from a mother of five, grandmother of thirteen - I Feel Pretty Again! PS, This pic is an earlier pic from a couple years ago, so it does not show my cut. Will have to get an updated pic.

Andrea Rogers: Thank YOU, for not only an easy professional method, but an intelligent and beautiful video! This is exactly what I needed! XO

Natasha Bless Omega: OMG! Thank you for this video. I do have experiences at salon's, that is why my hair now is so long it's in the top of my butt already because I don't want to go to salons because they don't do what you say. (Some) i want to cut my hair but not so short, and I have split ends. This can help me so much! I will try this now! Thank you!

Denise Osborne: I just gave your method a try on my curly hair and I am amazed. Thank you so much. My hair looks so good, better than a salon cut.

Wendy S: You probably won't believe me, but you look MOST beautiful in a picture of you without makeup! Really. You want to do all the stuff with the eyelashes and lips, but you are seriously lovely just natural. Just my opinion and thanks for the video :)

OneCali Angel: I asked for long layers for my mid-back length thick naturally wavy auburn and strawberry blonde hair and got bizarrely chopped up shoulder length hair... I also asked for blonde highlights and left with half of my hair yellow. I've had my hair destroyed so many times that I'm starting to think that a lot of hair dressers are kids who messed up their doll's hair when they were little and never outgrew it...? I'm done with going to the salon to have my hair done. I do a better job myself than the majority of the hair dressers I've been to.

Amazon Angel: I know this video's a year old but.. I haven't had my hair cut by a hairdresser since this: 5 or 6 years ago I asked for long layers. My hair was about the length of Alexandra's hair here at the time, and this look is pretty much what I was envisioning (even though this video came years later). They asked me where I wanted my shortest layers to hit so they could work from there, but that mark pretty much ended up being where my longest layers ended instead... Luckily my hair was still to my shoulders at least, but they definitely chopped off a lot and didn't do what I asked for. I was 15 and I cried in the car soon after that.. I've been to salons for dye jobs since then, but not regularly because I seem to get closer to the exact color I want just by getting stuff at Sally's rather than trying to describe it to someone and pointing to pictures and swatches. Nothing horrible has happened in that regard thankfully, but nothing really good either.

Jackie C: I was super bored yesterday, so I wanted to cut my hair in an actual V shape bc I had asked the hairdresser to cut it in V and she cut it in a squiggly line , so I watched this and my hair came out sooooo cute in a V shape and I didn't cut much, same length and softer hair, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I would've chopped my hair off if I didn't watch this

SleepWorks oo: I want layers but scared to cut my hair. Scared to get it cut professionally bc they don't do it how I want it. -.-

laura t: Gawd I wish you could do my cut for real. I'm naturally curly and we all know even the pros can severely "jack" up a haircut cutting way too much. I been mulling over doing another big chop soon and my hair is almost at my tailbone but seeing this tutorial made me feel motivated to try something different. ^___^

klaritydawn: My first time watching one of your videos....Firstly, you're gorgeous! :) Secondly, I would Love to try this but I'm terrified! Lol!! My hair is extremely fine so the hair around my face gets damaged very easily. This is what I need to cut and I wear it angled towards my face....very difficult for me to do alone. I did stop going to salons probably 5 years ago and started watching videos on YT to teach myself. When it's time to cut or trim I always seek out new videos...always fun to learn something new. I want to try this...but I'm so worried I will mess up so bad. My hair is not only fine but straight, Extremely straight. Your naturally curly hair is awesome. Thanks for the video and I subscribed to your channel. I'm going to try this later so Wish me luck! I'll let you know how bad I butcher my hair. Lol!!! :)

Lavinia L: Perfect timing I've been wanting to learn how to do this! Thanks!

Esme Herrera: I cut my hair like this today. Sooooo awesome thank you!

Alexandria Anderson: I enjoyed your video! I am thinking about trying this technique. And oh my gosh I am the same way. I don't want to hurt their feelings, so I never tell my hair dresser. One time, she cut it entirely too short. It was just.. Terrible. Took a year to grow back. I dealt with it the best I could. I straightened it and found new ways to style it. I eventually loved it actually!

Karina Gonzalez: gorgeous! this video was really helpful! I have to try this its easy and looks really nice

Ali VanSickle: I went to the salon by my work one day because I wanted to cut my hair shoulder length. She ended up cutting it a little above my shoulders and it was TOTALLY uneven! I went home, trimmed up some of the unevenness. And then I went back the next couple days and told them. I got a free touch up. I haven't been to a hair salon since. I trimmed my own hair a little bit and that's about it!

JEVC lcc: Great DIY vid!! :-) Thank you!!! It will help me with my hair too

Chloe M: I love your haircut !! <3 Could you please show us how you cut your bangs ? They are so pretty , and I've tried asking for similar bangs at the hair salon several times , but it never ended up how I wanted them ... :(  So I would be so happy if you could do a video on that too!  Thank you so much for this video and the rest of them  :* <3

Jade Moore: just cut my hair for 1st time and it looks great thank you for doing this vid saved me money ad love your hair <3

A Bitty: Loved the vid! Plan on doing it tonight. How did you section out your hair to not repeat parts you already cut?

Debra Ladd: You do a great job explaining everything and you move right along...I like that!

thekristinworld: Great video! usually I cut my bangs but I will try for the rest of hair!  love also the color of your hair what kind of products do you use for that? :)

Healthy Brittany: Hi @AlexandrasGirlyTalk! I am new to your channel and I love all of your videos, especially the DIY! Could you do a work out routine or healthy tips video? I am looking for inspiration or something new to try! Thanks :)

Lilly Smith: Oh, and PLEASE show us how you curl your hair like that!! Ohmygosh, it's stunning.

VPEP VPEP: Wish I was brave enough to do this lol. Can you please do a full makeup tutorial? it's been awhile since you've done one!

adela waller: Saw a stylist every 3 months for 1.5 years and she helped me grow my hair to the bottom of my back which was my dream. Then she moved :(. Next girl cut choppy layers so I cut it to my shoulders to remove them. Now I trim my own hair. Thanks for this tutorial to help me do it better myself :).

jette: I appreciate your way of self encouragement in your video. I have had a couple of Hair disasters that I paid for in more ways than one. trusting and educating your self are the best tools to do any job

Please Use Soap: Wow this is my first video watching you and I was taken back on how extreme your look was, you look like a barbie. Not in a rude way at all! Its just how artificial it looks, its very interesting and beautiful, catches the eye even though not very natural. Not many girls can pull it off, and not many girls have your skill with makeup (I assume) :) Anyway on a related note, I cut my hair just like that as well and every time I love it. I think your natural hair looks great tbh! -have a great day, kudos~

Harley Dee: This was so helpful!!! Im still a little nervous but i think i can do it now :) thankyou <3

Jessica Santos: I love how you explain every details step by step :)

Kitty B: salonist's almost always take too much of my length off right after i spent months growing it out to a desired length. thanks for the tutorial id be happy to cut my own hair and not pay someone to mess it up.

Karla Cardenas: i have nearly the same hair type as you and i went to the salon and i only wanted my split ends cut off, at the time i had my hair down to my waist and the hairstylist chopped off all of it and it rested near my shoulders(and thats when it was still wet), i did not say anything, i just went home, waited for my hair to dry,my hair shrunk up to my shoulders and i cried. this was 4 years ago and now i just cut my own hair

Dante Velasquez: you should try slide cutting as well (sliding the scissor down the length of the hair and making small scissor motions very close together). Helps the layers cascade nicely and still leaves the ends soft as opposed to blunt.

Shannonigans: I used your guide yesterday, and I just had to leave a rare comment. Thank you for this. It's something so simple, yet made all the difference. I feel better, my hair looks better, and it cost me nothing. Again, thank you.

Cameron Westwood: Thank you for a great tutorial. Ignore any unkind comments, you are beautiful. I am surprised people feel they can comment on another persons looks, especially other women. Girls we are in this together. Enough with judging another because you are insecure or jealous. Everyone is beautiful no matter how they look and nobody is perfect,

Jasmin Cuellar: such a helpful video really help me get rid of split ends and add volume without losing the length of my hair.

Bryar Rose Bradshaw: OMG! I have naturally curly hair too! And I love having long hair! But i was looking for a more full look to my hair so I went to a hair dresser and said I wanted short layers through out my hair so my curls started from the root but I wanted to keep the length I had which was about half way down my back and they cut my hair up to my shoulders ...... I literally sat in the chair and cried my eyes out! I haven been able to get it that length again and that was 3 years ago! It's almost like after a certain point my hair stops growing. No matter how much I take care of it!!

Chalina Garcia: Your so beautiful ! I love your hair! I would be to scared to cut it my self lol but yours turned out beautifully good job!(:

Veenas •: I tried cutting my hair myself also.. and i did the same thing.. I did a really good job and it made my hair alot thicker and longer ^-^ so just wanted to say that this works :)

Kareema Rashdan: When I was pregnant and got a bad cut I cried right in the chair. They gave me the haircut for free but I gave the lady $40 bc I felt bad for probably making her feel like shit.

Ania: Great video. I really appreciate the tip for cutting up into the hair. Informative and professional. Thanks so much

SunnyDays: Yep, my stylist told me my hair was too long to layer and by the time she was done cutting my hair, which was down to my waist, is just past my shoulders by the time she was done. I am so dissapointed. Why don't professionals know to do this?! She said if I layered my hair I would have long strings in the back and would just want them cut off anyway. I am going to do this myself as I try to grow it again. I would like to keep a healthy trim while I grow it out. Thank you for showing me how.

Kali Spiers: I am so going to try your method! You have amazing hair!

Dee Nurissa A: Thanks for these amazing tips! I don't trust others with my hair either lol!! ❤

37wallflower73: I made the mistake of using a coupon for a new salon before I started college. I have always had pretty healthy and very long hair, so I just ask them to take off the damaged bits. Usually, the hairdresser will consult with me first and it's about 1-2 inches. This hair dresser did not ask....she started chopping away, and cut off 8 inches!!! and made it so fluffy when I prefer it to be sleek and straight. On top of that, I had to pay $10 dollars to even use the stupid coupon, which is ridiculous because it was supposed to be free! I went to my vehicle and cried.....first time that ever happened to me. I was so upset I decided, my hair is already ruined, I will dye it red! Anyway, it worked out in the end. 4 years later my hair is still red and I have my length back :) No more hairdressers for me! Thank you for this video ^__^

1611bloodbought: One of my hair terror stories is: at a very high end salon the stylist was very very snooty with me. I told her that although I straightened my hair that day I did have naturally curly hair. She emphatically disagreed with me. She pushed my head forward and cut a huge chunk of hair off the back. The hair immediately curled to a tight ringlet. But it was way too short. She glibly said well it looks like your going to have short hair. I did and said nothing I paid for the cut and sat in my car for an hour and cried.

Maire Copeland: Loved this!!❤️ how did you style your hair at the end? Xoxo

Spooks: How do you give so much volume to the top of your hair? I love it!

Dawn Campbell: thank you..have always been happier when I cut my own hair...your style of cutting has helped me..

Liv Raine: love this video! very helpful

lily sword: So this past December I went to try my best friend's salon and OMFG it was horrible!! The stylist asked what I done to my hair and I said "i just want a little trimmed of and can you fix the angles". Yeah no problem. She starts cutting away and next thing I know she says "Oops". I said "OOPS! What Oops?!" She says "I forgot you didn't want to lose your length and might have cut a bit too much off". I Turned to look and my 'trim' turned into me losing over a foot of my hair! I went from my long curls being 3/4 of the way down my back to just below my shoulder. The first time I have ever cried after a salon visit. I've been terrified to go back. Thankfully my hair grows insanely fast and is already past my bra line in the back!! Seriously. I tear up thinking about it and I am not an easy crier! BTW thanks for your videos :)

Krystle Serrano: Went for a cut for some long layers concentrated in the back I got short hair Infront and straight cut in the back. Just tried this and it def gave me some volume and body where I wanted it to begin with now just waiting for it to grow out some more. This tip really helped make my hair seem a bit normal

kds: LET ME TELL YOU. I once went in a salon for a bang trim. I asked for choppy, slanted bangs going from above my left eyebrow to just under my right eyebrow. I know that sounds weird but this was during my "scene" phase. Anyway, the hairstylist trimmed my bangs as I asked, but then PROCEEDED TO CUT A GOOD CHUNK OF HAIR on the side of my head the same length as my bangs! What the hell, lady?! I stopped her before she did further damage, paid, then left. Thankfully, I already had experience with managing short layers (b/c scene phase), but during that time I was trying to grow out my layers and I still looked dumb with one side of my hair sticking out. -.-

Erendida Gomez: OMG I'm so happy I came across your videos. my hair is just like yours, and I can relate to every thing you mention.. Thanks for all the cool Ideas. Oh and by the way one produc you migth want to try is moose what ever brand you prefer, #2 or #3 that way is not to soft or to hard. is just perfect. I personally prefer Garnier Fructis.

Y G: this is the best layered look i've ever seen i've never been a fan of them but it looks so full!!

sweetiee17x3: the best part of this video was when your hair was curled/wavy at the end! can you do a tutorial? what method? what curling iron? PLEASEEEE!

Britney Reis: omg so many salon horror stories!! for me, every client I've had that has curly hair I wash and blow dry then cut, after the cut I ask if they want me to style it or wash again so they can see their natural hair. I've never had a complaint, if someone has curly hair you have to keep in mind (depending on the type of curl) that cutting an inch on straight hair can make their hair look 2-3 inches shorter when it's curly. which can obviously be devasting if a client was only looking for a little trim. I rather cut less first and have to go back in then have a client leave in tears

icas: @CurlsNpolish I wish I had the guts to tell my hair dresser that! I went to a salon to get a blue ombre dye job. $200 and 2 visits later I left the salon with a rusty brick color that I hated and almost cried as I was leaving. I don't even know how I ended up with that color and i was stupid for not speaking up to ask for my money back. What's worse, the owner of the salon was there on both occasions and saw me unhappy but never bothered to talk to me about it or offer to refund my money. I ended up buying the blue dye myself and having my aunt dye it for me to get it back to a dark color. I've always had bad experiences at hair salons so I'm always reluctant to go but this stylist sounded so experienced and made me feel confident about trusting her with my virgin hair. It's also my fault for not speaking up.

DarthShadie Lavellan: Last year I went to get my ends trimmed and I like to have in the front a bit of a gradient down the front and sometimes a bit in the back for layering. My hair dresser was not available, she suggested her colleague who was. Big mistake. I colour my hair and most of my colour is at the bottom. I asked to keep the length and not to cut any more than 1 inch at the very most. FIVE inches were gone when she was done and a good chunk of green with it. Not only that, but my gradient was stairs. It looked like stairs. Since then, I've been trying to grow my hair and sort of self learn to adjust trimming the ends. This video is defo helpful for split end. I've yet to master getting my gradient. I have very thick and voluminous hair and I need to learn to manage it DIY style now. I trust my clumsy hands better than a hair dresser now.

Cheyenne Hall: Just found your channel and am loving your videos. What straightener do you use? Your hair is so straight. Especially for how curly it naturally is.

Hailey Hall: I told my hair dresser to just cut of the end and add layers right and I ended up from past my brain strong to a little past my shoulder hair. So now when I need to I do my own hair. I recommend learning it's not hard and cheap

Natalie Gonzalez: Alex do you have any tricks for how to make your makeup last really long? I have oily skin and I prime and powder and use a setting spray but it always moves around or wears off

Estrella Sanchez: This is great! Thanks for sharing!!:)

Jeannette Rodriguez: I don't do salons anymore. They always chop off 4 or more inches when all I need is a trim. I have pretty healthy hair so it's not like they need to cut so much. The worst experience was when I went in to have my layers retouched. She just kept clipping and clipping even though I kept voicing my discomfort. She would say ohhh I'm just evening it out a little more. When all was said and done I ended up having Monica's from Friends 90s cut. I almost cried.

A J: I have NEVER been happy with a haircut in my life. I've had long hair for a long time now & every single time I get layers & a trim it ends up being too short & I hate it :( I haven't watched this yet but hopefully this will save me money & work for me well enough to not need a hairdresser!

Jesse Tellez: I'm a guy with long hair, down to my butt to be exact lol. Your video was very helpful for me. My hair looks great! It also saved me money because whenever I go to a salon they charge me for a woman's haircut which is usually more expensive than a man's haircut. Thank you so much! :-)

Angel Baby Mo: thank you for the great tutorial I have long hair and spit ends and its annoying people wanna charge me $50+ for layered trim, hopefully I don't screw it up by myself. BTW you're gorgeous ^_^

Redhorsesrunning: Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! This video helped me out so much!

kyla: I love trimming my hair myself because i can actually control how much i cut off, i don't trust stylists anymore and people think I'm crazy when i say i cut my own hair lol

RandomStranger777:  I think cutting up is what the pros call texturizing if I'm not mistaken. A blunt cut like you said is straight across. I read that thinning shears do the texturizing for you because it cuts every other piece its like a comb and you can cut across but it skips pieces so you just keep cutting and it does the work for you :)

Nina Guarino: Girl..you are So beautiful! I'm trying to follow your video and watch what you're doing, but you face is just GORGEOUS, its like mesmerizing, that I can't stop admiring your beauty! Lol.. I hope that doesn't sound corny, but you truly are one of the most blessed females I've ever seen in the looks department. Thank you so much for the video..I'll be cutting my hair at home from here on out!

Josefine Loines: Please make a straight hair overnight video! I really need this

Hayley Terraine: Went into a really, really expensive salon thinking that they were professional enough to listen to me. I said no layers and my hair was bra strap length at that time and the girl doing my hair made a face and said that it would look too bulky if she didn't put layers in. So she cut in this HUGE layer into the back and half way up my head and it was so god awful. I couldn't believe what she had done. It was just one layer, just one and everyone was always asking me if I had cut it in and how bad it looked and that it would take ages for it to grow out (which it did). But in the end I had to cut five inches off my hair to get it right and it was heart breaking, I ended up with a bob but it honestly looked better than what I had before.

Tooba Khalil 78: tysm I tried it and it worked, salons cut off too much and I usually don't have time either, the result is amazing ♡♡♡

Amanda Panda: i have been cutting my own hair for several years now. The hairdressers never did what i asked! I’ve gone to so many at so many different salons and i always left unhappy. I’d ask them to thin the ends because i don’t like the blunt look, but they left it blunt. Or they’d part it off center to do the layers, even after i show them how my hair parts in the middle, so it ended up crooked. One even put mousse and hair spray in my hair and scrunched it curly when i said i wanted it straightened! She said it was because she liked my hair curly. They just do whatever they want! Now i always have my hair the way i want it. And i get lots of compliments on it, too, because i know what works and what doesn’t work for me and my hair.

Mary Carey: I had long hair down to around my butt but it was taking to long to dry. I spent about three months stressing before I decided to cut it. At first I was thinking to about my waist, but then I realised how fast my hair grows. So I decided to donate 15 inches of my hair and now it goes down to my upper back. So happy I was able to contribute to making a wig for done one Whois t as lucky as I am with my hair.

Fatima Nazeer: I have curly hair too and I've never been to a salon because I'm scared they might chop it all off and my hair takes a while to grow and the thing is i never know how to cut the front of my hair and then I saw this and omg thank you, everything is nice and even now and the front isn't longer than the back it's nice and I have that short to long effect now. Thanks again xoxo

Francis Gomez: I too went to a hair salon and walked out not feeling good about my hair. sure enough when I got home I checked it out and was all cut wrong. That was the last time I ever went to the hair salon. I know cut it on my own and I have to say it comes out nice. Thank you for your toutrial and have a blessed day!

Mallorie B: The day of my moms wedding I decided to get my hair trimmed before it got styled. The hair dresser was still a little intoxicated from the night before, and my "trim" turned in to her chopping off over 6 inches of my hair.. My hair was so short I couldn't do the style I had picked out and I left her house sobbing! It took about three years for me to break out of the awkward middle length phase and now I'm terrified to get my hair cut haha. It was horrible!

lifeofsoundz123: The curls on the end of the video are amazing. Can u make tutorial please ? I am searching so long for an tutorial. Thanks p

zombiegnomes1: The first time my hair was cut I was 11. I nagged my parents for a couple of months to get it done for my birthday as I'd never had it done before and it was a pain in the arse to get my waist long hair platted everyday (I think that's what convinced my mum lol). So we're at the hairdressers and I've had my hair washed and there's all this palaver going on around me- I thought they had found nits and were trying to find a way to get us out without anyone knowing. With 5 kids and 2 girls with butt length hair you can imagine the horror that lice was in our house lol. It turned out that they couldn't comb my hair out it was a solid knot at the nape of my neck and the only why they could do it was to cut the lot off. Mum was horrified, I was excited (and I loved the style even though it 'made me look like a boy'). It made my dad cry when he saw how short it was and he wouldn't let me go again until I was 15 - when I promptly cut it all off again lol. So although I didn't think of this as a disaster my parents did.
