BEAUTIFUL YOU SONG: http://cdbaby.com/cd/africanexport

I'Ll tell you stay in the middle with here. I don't like halfway in the middle of all this nice short, I can't stand it whether it's curly straight wavy, pinky straight all right, so my girl, mica Dre 23. One of the family hit me up asking me. Actually, in a video response, she wanted me to talk about my natural hair journey and how I got from that wretched, in-between stage length where it's not long, it's not short what to really do with it. It'S wondering what I did to get long hair from that middle stage. What did i do? Did I protect the style? What did I do so? Let'S just talk about natural hair and my particular journey. What I've done ly just an account of what I did not to say that this is the way to go. Okay, I am NOT good at styling and because I'm not good at styling, a lot of you guys may be able to relate. If you don't know how to do a whole lot of beautiful funky styles, that you find attractive that you actually like the look of them, that you might find a difficult time during this stage for the first two years of my journey, approximately six months out of The year I did protective styling not consecutive six months, but a total of roughly six months, whether it was braids whether it was crochet braids ring braids for three weeks four weeks and then retouching the edges or the part where it was really overgrown, especially the edges. Protecting those edges that helped me sometimes that's really difficult with afro textured hair, it's not about uniformity, our hair does what it wants to do unless we manipulate it. So I did manipulating with twist flex rods and things like that. But honestly and truly I did a lot of protective styles. I'Ve never been one to promote protective styling, but it works. I can't deny that protective styling will work and it works for most people. However, we all want to look cute. We want to have those styles and well wear our hair out, so I have to tell you, you know it's kind of what your preference is so make it. The only thing I can really tell you and for all of you guys who might have had that question about what did you do to get your hair to the length that it is and, as you see right now, I'm not rocking my hair out my hair. Although hair is the crown, your crowning glory, hair, don't make me you know, as it is an accessory I made. I got a whole lot of other things to accessorize, who I am so I mean if you don't have a problem with having your hair out. All the time hey protective styling way to go crochet braids are definitely one of my favorite protective styles as far as using extensions and things like that, and you guys know that I love wigs at this time and I will probably do a separate video regarding that Whole stage of the game - because I know some of you guys probably have questions about that and yeah so mica until you get your hair, where you're comfortable with the length I say, go ahead and protective style keep up with your deep conditioning, especially before putting in A protective style always deep condition your hair and moisturize it properly because it will be put away for a long period of time. If you are a person who likes to look a certain way, then by golly. Look how you want to look look how you feel comfortable if the stage of the game of your natural journey is not working with you and you're, not really feeling all that hot do what you need to do. That'S all i'ma say when you go home when you lay in your bed and you, you know that you've gotten to a point where you're just like you know, I'm so glad that I no longer get relaxers. I'M so glad that I learn in our continuing to learn about how to care for my hair, I'm so glad that there are so many women who look like me who wear they here in so many different styles, that I have so many options to choose. Not use book on what somebody's agenda is when it comes to natural hair and what they say is right or wrong. I'M just rocking my turban. These are my whoo, putting a child put it on, put it on put on that turban. Let me know if there's something you want to see regarding natural hair and I will try to fulfill those video requests so Omaha. Let you guys later. Thank you guys for watching the video. Thank you for the well wishes for the vacation. It was lovely and talk to you guys on the next video. Keep it real hmm until next time,

Jennie Jenkins: You are just so entertaining to watch..and gosh your hair is loong...love it :D

dvinemrsshay: Thank you for this, it was right on time TA-DAY! I'm sitting up here with some slave braids in and 15 months into a transition. I might just decide to hop into the wig game because this hair is working my NERVES.

napturalsista86: I've been natural for about 19 months and I must say that I am very happy I decided to go natural. Watching your videos (along with other vloggers) has helped me on my natural hair care journey. Thanks for the videos and God Bless you!

Brianna Pitts: I just love the fact that you embrace individuality when it comes to natural hair. What works for me may not necessarily work for others, but whatever you do we're in this thing together. Natural hair power!

Sparkle vibes Amore: I love your honesty!!! thank you for making the 'hair journey' a versatile and enjoyable, non legalistic experience! may God bless u more so u can continue being a blessing to others

EboniTrue7691: African Export, I always love to watch you! I think you would be my hair twin (sans my heat damage). Thank you for keeping it all the way real. I actually love seeing your "hidden braids". I used to think i needed cornrows under wigs or hats, but, the braids are GREAT to moisturize and don't pull as much!

Tanish Fortson: I love this video and the points that you've made. I've seen a huge difference in my since i started protective styling. I don't advocated for protective styling because everybody's hair is different but with my hair I cannot deny the results of it.

Crystal Smith Official: "Hair don't make me!" Words of wisdom :-) You're skin is looks so beautiful!!

thisNATURALGIRLisDOPE: Great vid. I've been natural for some yrs now and I've maintained shoulder length hair, which was my goal & preference but now I'd like to grow out my hair to mid-back length, which means taking better care of it and setting benchmark goals. I'm not the protective style type as I'm a lover of the twist-out but when I wear braids my hair grows like a wildfire lol so I may need to incorporate the braids every so often. Thanks again!

Thisladylion: I really truly appreciate this video because I am so happy that I have gone natural but styling is my issue. I hate this stage and want my long hair back but I know that I made a good decision for healthy hair. I just get frustrated that I can't style it in fun ways. Your suggestions were really great and I am going to give some of them a try. Thanks again!

ChocolateInMotion: Thank you so much, I'm definitely at that place where other people would consider my hair long because of the length of the back and thickness.but im patiently waiting to gain all around health and length.wonderful encouragement.

Vegnaturalista: When the "hair don't make me" t-shirt comes out, I want one! Lol. Love the video and topic. Right on time for me and my mid-length hair! Thanks to you and the viewer who requested it.

RitaWhoDat Robinson: You are always, always keeping it real. Thank you!!!

lstchristopher: Great advice! Thanks for your continued honesty!

Natasha Pachecker: That was awesome. And Amazing all at the same time! " Do what you have to do so you feel the way you need to feel." Let the chuuch say Amen.

E. Rich: Thank you... thank you... thank you.... I'm in the middle stage and it drives me up a wall!!! Glad to hear someone has been there and can feel my pain!

MzZophia: "Do not get stuck on what somebody's agenda is when it comes to natural hair and what they say is right and wrong." Amen!!! Preach it! lovely video!

KurlyMommy G: I just love this keep it real simple approach to natural hair. Everyone needs to learn to JUST DO YOU. Stop worrying about if my twist out looks like hers, or my hair doesn't curl. Learn to appreciate your own hair, and it will start to look beautiful to you.

AFRICANEXPORT: I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Much love *hugs

Rubyred9as: I love this video especially since I just recently went the Atlanta Natural Hair show this past weekend it was AWESOME!

Crushonme22: great vid. much needed as Im just transitioning. been 3 months since my last touch up. ive started practcing braid outs just ti blend my two textures. that lasted a good two weeks till i had my gf straighten my hair (flat iron). My whole relax life ive only did wraps. quick and simple. now wondering if this natural journey going to make me a skave ti my hair. Determined to give it a fighting chance. So thankful ti all of yous who take time to share your knowledge and inspire..

Kandi Peaces: AE... I think your styling is awesome. I've been looking for more natural looks from you.

Lolly Fontaine: Really liked this video! It good to hear a natural youtuber say 'do what makes you happy'. Sometimes this natural hair journey can make you feel like you belong to a cult. Lol!

AFRICANEXPORT: You never lied, its like back in the day, I swore my hair ALWAYS grew after wearing braids, and any protective style seems to work the same. Leave the hair alone and it will spout like a weed and not break . Hope you are doing fabulous DAHHHLLING :O)

Cee Emm: Great points, and very well said!! I haven't seen many on the YT who can put it out there like you do. Keep doin' whacha doin!!

NUNAAVANE: I am relaxed... And i LOVE your personnality and Natural hair :-D thanks for all those advices

The80247: i love ur personality and thank u for posting this! yea im kinda stuck n that same length stage where it doesnt grow beyond a certain point. i have seriously been contemplating wigs to get me over that hump! thanks again :D

Sunny: AE you are hilarious! My hair, don't care! LOL I truly love and appreciate that you keep it real in your videos. Keep up the good work!

Maureen Theresa: You are my heroine! Well said. And you have the most gorgeous and healthy skin ! x

Beesexy2: AE :) girl thank you for doing this video. I am in that odd stage in between length that I don't know what to do with it but protective style under my wig. I can't wait til I get a longer length like yours. 7 months natural. 1 yr and 4 months relaxer free. But if you have an opportunity, can you discuss what to do with natural who have a thiin/fine texture and what should be done differently than thicker textures?

JappDoll With Triplets: I Love all ur videos! U are funny and very informative about everything!! Keep the vids coming honey! :-)

Anika M: In my opinion, you look even more gorgeous with out your hair in your face. You have great facial features

NattyQueen2010: I love you girl... Your "REAL"ness is so refreshing, I can't get enough of you talking. You are probably my top 5 that I can actually sit up listen while you speak. Usually I fastfoward videos to get what I need, but not you. Keep it up.

cupcakebabe11: "hair dont make me" LOVE THAT!

Rep Jesus: You are such an inspiration. I have been watching your videos for so long but now am officially on youtube so I am a new subbie:) Thanks for sharing all of your tips. we have similar hair and I am so inspired. God bless you and your family:)

rassledassle82: GIRL, you and your hair - SO BEAUTIFUL!

Adaeze: In that in-between stage right now and it's not fun. Lol, but definitely doing protective styling and trying to be patient!

AFRICANEXPORT: I never really think about my hair length as a goal. I will just protective style until I cant take it any more. I would love when its down and pressed for it to be mid back, I think that is enough hair for me. I tend to like my hair off my shoulders and back when I have it out so it ends up in a pony tail most times

Green Eggs & Ham: I think you have the perfect skin and features. Gorgeous!

thestylecake: Love this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For real! <3

ELM2015: Lol girl u too funny. But so right! I've been watching u since 2008, when I was natural and can definitely understand that awkward mid stage. U r awesome! Keep up the positive vibez!

Carmen2life2love Natural: hahaha, sweety I can always depend on you to make me smile, Girl I wear synthetic natural har wig most of the time and it is convenient and easy. My hair is 10 inches in most places. Never had this much hair in my LIFE WHEW. Thanks so much for sharing. U brighten my day

Aisha B: I LOOOOOOOOOVVVE your Foundation, is it the Bare Minerals? I think it looks naturally Gorgeous and flawless on you! and Obv i love you hair lol Love from London,England xx

GigglesnGaggie: Your skin & makeup looks very pretty!

NaturallyTiTi: Love your videos, your style, and hair as always......... (;

KellyJelly9976: Thanks for this vid, I am at that not long and not short stage and am super frustrated. I can't do a wash & go yet (still have heat damaged ends in the front), but like you said - do what works for you. I just haven't found that yet. Thanks AE for the video.

DynamicallyDella: That's the whole truth right there! "We can't celebrate natural beauty If we don't appreciate our own." DD 2012 LOL

SimplyTilah: Well I concur about protective styling..i had locs for 11 years and my hair was super duper long.. no manipulation unless retwisting the roots..perfect example..so for the most part i keep my hair in chunky twists and accessorize with headwraps, hats, wigs, faux buns..plus im lazy..lol

87KRenee: @Ididit36, I'm in the same boat. BC'd Feb and I'm currently wearing my cap over top of my twa. Do you have any idea yet when you'll start wearing it out? I'm gonna wait to see what it looks like at 3 months and go from there.

dani77014: Thanks!!! I'm about to co wash now since my hair is on straight brillo pad mode

ididit36: I love this video. Please, please do a video on wearing wigs. I BC on 2/5/12 so I have a TWA. I'm currently wearing two-stranded twists under my wig until I achieve a length that I feel comfortable styling.

Jalesa Darrell: I love you and your hair. I am at the middle stage of my natural hair journey. But my hair is starting to break off A LOT and it looks very fuzzy at times. This is due to dyeing my hair a lot. Do you have any advice on helping the breakage to stop of should I just cut it off and start again? :(

iLuv J: This video is on TIME! Im at that stage. Mot short but.mot long. THANKS!!!- iLove the growth darling!

desertflowerz89: You seem like a beautiful person inside and out- still my favorite guru. Thanks for countering that rachet Vibe magazine cover. 3 cheers for real role models!

AFRICANEXPORT: Probaby within the next 2 weeks. Ive used some on my daughter, and I want to try more of the products on my own hair.

Sincerely Prisca: I enjoy watching you because you keep it real. I am natural too and yes braids, weave, wig ..etc helps a lot. U part wigs is the best creation, because you can take it out every week or 2 treat your hair and then put it back in. Great video love. Please check me out when you get a chance. bisouuuu

nastynat1001: thank you for those words of encouragement

AFRICANEXPORT: I gotta give props to the one and one, Carefree Curl Instant Moisturizer in the yellow and red bottle that stuff will have your hair hella soft. I also slap some conditioner in my hair in the shower ever other day or so, to keep my hair moisturized, so sine your rocking the cornrows you can still do the same thing. Them braids underneath will look a mess, but you hair will remain softer, moisturized longer b/c its protected and regularly conditioned. *hugs Hope that helped some

Valerie Smith: African Export, you make sooooooooooo much sense!. You have to do what works for you, I am not a twist person, braid person, fine twist person etc, but I do do protective style, putting my hair in the Heidi plaits, co-washing at least 4-5 times a week and putting them back on the Heidi braids. Only comb once a week and it seems to be paying off, seen a difference in my hair after two weeks of co-washing.

Montria Martin: Wow u got a lot of new growth that's inspiring me to keep going with my protective styling

Sister & Sister: I luv your hair it looks healthy and thick:-)

Ultimate Shining: Looove those hoops!! Where can I get a pair?? ;-)) Great video!

Lifeisagift1990: AE did a regimen video showing how she detangles & the tools she uses. It's called SIMPLE COMPREHENSIVE NATURAL HAIR ROUTINE: TAKE THE CONFUSION OUT OF HAIRCARE. My detangling tips-- section dry stretched hair before shampooing (6 parts, 8 parts, 10 parts, etc), apply conditioner or conditioner/oil mix to each section, finger-detangle and then comb-detangle, twist each section as you go (to keep it out of the way) P.S. I have ~11-12 inches of have kinky hair. I've been natural for 3 years.

pennytricia1: Thank you for sharing,I missed those wonderful (well needed) hugs.:-)

AFRICANEXPORT: Thank you so much for the sweet compliment

ReillyAJ: it looks beautiful

trecey920: do you still do the two strand twist at the end of your braids. Love it..

BeautifulDisaster: Finally a video that has real info about natural hair . . You just got a new subscriber ! :D

cupcakebabe11: SERIOSULY this was the realest natural hair video I ever came to see

Tammy Flournoy: keeping it real as always

Dee_da_Libra: Girl!!! You are a fool......in a good way!! I'm glad to see a new video and glad you enjoyed your vacay. Thanks for keeping it real.

Nickyloveslove ENTERTAINMENT: i know you get told ALL of the time that you're absolutely GORGEOUS, it's the truth!...are you going to put a video up with pictures of the vacation?~

LoveBeingMee: Your makeup looks great in this video

MoniMeka P: when she took the turban off, the way she reacted was too funny! LMAOOOOOO

TussahSilk: You are so inspiring. You have answered something that was bothering me about my transitional journey. At this point, I'm not loving how my hair looks with the relaxed ends, but I'm not yet ready to BC. For me it is braids all the way. Into my 6th month of transition, and not tempted to go back....

Natural Beauty: Even tho you never answer any of my questions LOL -- I love your videos -- keep them up! You have a great sense of humor!

S. Daniels: Great Advice!!!

slomo5ny: I'm in between and like my hair out but with the heat it's not working for me so protective styling is what's up. Keep up the great work ur awesome with networking!

AFRICANEXPORT: I will have to learn how to do that, thats a good recommendation. THANKS

Latina L: Thanks for sharing your journey. Please do a vid on the best products to use for wash and go styles.

Jae: "Hair dont make me HA.. ha" - That was hilarious. I feel it.

AFRICANEXPORT: proper care, maintenance , trims and protective styling

Johnetta Goodlowe: I don't know if you flat iron but, I would love to see your hair straight. :)

Beautygurl: love your energy and attitude
