How To Restore And Straighten A Synthetic Wig!

HI GUYS I'm finally making wig tutorials! This first one is all about how I restore and detangle my old nasty wigs with just a brush and steamer!

Watch part 2 where I curl tease and style it:

https://youtu.be/gmyoYebtWeU?list=PLaZ...

FYI the brown thing I have this on is a canvas wig block and I just pinned it in with twill tape at the hairline! But you could do this on a styrofoam head or whatever if you're inventive enough. Let me know if you have any questions!! Xoxo

Wigs wigs wigs, you know, as someone who loves makeup and transformation and costumes and drag hair, is a really big part of my transformations and I'm always getting questions about how I style my wigs there's ways to style it to make. It look really natural as if it's real hair there's ways to do it for cosplay for theater and special effects. Personally, I like to go for a very big, dramatic, bold, drag queen wig and a lot of people. Ask me how I get the style, so I'm very excited to finally do a wig styling video, but before we can do any sort of styling and teasing and curling and braiding, it always starts off with the very first step, which is detangling the hair from its Previous style and I'm going to be demonstrating on the old grossest nastiest, ratted out wig that I own, which is this grey hair that I wore for Halloween. I wore this hair for a Halloween party where I was ursula, so I teased it up and rotted it up and put it into an updo there's even like purple in it from touching my body. If you couldn't already tell from my thirty-one days of Halloween series every time I pull this hair out, it would be for, like a witch makeup, look or like an old lady costume. So it's you, you could say it's gone through a lot. I mean it's not in that bad of a condition, but I'm definitely gon na have to do a lot of detangling on it. It'S gon na need a lot of love before I can ever do another style on it, so I'm gon na show you guys how I do that. So this is what it looks like right now. Just to give you guys an idea of what we were dealing with, like, I said, pretty much impossible to run your fingers through, so I'm going to detangle her and straighten her out and the tool that I used to do. That is a steamer I have here. This huge, like I don't want to say, industrial, but it's like it's a pretty big steamer. It'S like what my mom would use to like steam, the curtains of our house. If you don't have a tool like this, you could use like a kettle. You could use boiling hot water on a stove, just bring it to your working area or bring this to the kitchen. And while it's heating up, I'm going to section this hair off, I'm going to always start from the bottom up. So I'm going to section off like the top 90 %. The brush that I'm going to use, looks like this. It'S kind of like a paddle brush you're, going to want one with quite a bit of surface area to distribute that heat. While you steamer is heating up or even before, you turn it on you're going to want to start detangling the wig with the brush and it's good to start from the bottom up, just so that you don't pull a tangle all the way from the top down. Otherwise, you're just going to rip your hair out if you come across a tangle that you can't get with your brush, try playing it apart with your hands first, that always helps and then do it like that. It also helps when you just do it section by section, even though this is already kind of a section, I take an even smaller strand when you try to detangle the entire way as one big unit, I'm you're just going to be overwhelmed, so it's always best To take the smallest sections that you can in order to get really thorough, so, as you can see, even after brushing it out a lot, it's never gon na have that bone straight. Texture like it doesn't look as clean as I wanted to so. To get that look, I have to use a steamer if you're, using human hair or really heat-resistant synthetic hair, you can use a flatiron. I just feel like a steamer also helps the detangling process. It kind of just lubricates hair almost so now that this is starting to steam up what I'm going to do is I go to the hair and you're just going to go back and forth with the steamer and the brush like so, and the power of the Steam almost lubricates the hair and tames it while straightening all at the same time, so you'll see that it tames the frizz and makes the hair look a lot flatter. And it also highlights where there are knots, because you'll see everywhere is just sleek and straight. Except for the one area that just looks like so take that one strand with a knot and then brush through equipped positions and turnout spotlight. So you guys can hopefully see better. But as you can see, this hair just looks a lot more sleek and straight and expensive. Now now that I've straightened it out and steamed it out. But as you can see, this bottom part is still a little bit frizzy and which like to get rid of the frizziness on the bottom. The technique is a little bit of to cling to straighten the bottom parts, to get it really bone straight. I'M not just gon na hover over it with a steam, I'm actually going to touch it with a steam, but for a short while that makes it can see, I'm kind of sandwiching in between the steam and the brush, which is why, like I said, it's important To get a brush with a lot of surface area tips going like that to all the ends and as you can see, the hair looks a lot better and those ends don't look as frizzy anymore. They look a lot cleaner if you're fighting you're still getting some little frizzy parts. Honestly, you can just get a pair of scissors and cut them off, take down another horizontal section and sometimes to make it a little bit easier myself I'll, actually take this done section and clip it up and out of the way just to make it easier on Myself, so you don't have to brush through so much hair, and now I'm just going to do the exact same thing on this section of hair, just like before going down the hair going back to course, and my steamer and my brush until like you can see, It'S just bone strained. I can easily run my fingers through it, like, I said, just blocked the ends with a quick shot of the hot steam. Just look at that, though, isn't that amazing, you never would have thought this one stuff like this hair up here. So I'm going to go ahead and section it off again put it in with a little done pile that we've got. You can even brush them together and then section that off taking another section now and I'm probably going to time-lapse this. So it's easier for you to watch, but basically the same idea when I get a new section. What I'm gon na do is just brush it out, first with my brush to make it easier on the steamer. So I don't end up steaming the knots together brush it out as much as you can then turn on that steamer and then, when the steamer is on just go back and forth between Steve and the brush and when it's mostly straight hit the ends with some Steam all right so, finally, after like an hour an hour and a half of sweetening, I'm finally done my last section, so I'm gon na go ahead and take down the little done pile and then combine them all and before I claim victory over this wig, I'm Just going to go through the entire thing, maybe turn on that steamer again and go over it one last time, just to catch any little kinks and knots that I may not have gotten so. Finally, this is a finished hair. As you can see, it's nice and sleek, and smooth and expensive, looking and straight, and when you move it around, it actually dances and moves which you could never do before. You could also not run your fingers through it before. If you want, you could wear it. Just like this or you could put it into a ponytail or a braid or you could curl it and tease it whatever style, I'm choosing. This is always the process that you do when I'm going from one style to another style or if I'm just freshening up the same style. Sometimes when a wig is really old, it gets filled with hairspray and lipstick and fake blood and alcohol. If you liked this video and learn something cool, be sure to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel, if you haven't already and be sure to stay tuned for part two of this video, where I show you guys how to go from a straight Sleek style to a big poofy drag queen style. So if you want to see more wig styling videos like this one be sure to let me know down below in the comments what kind of style you want to see thanks so much for watching and I'll see you guys in the next one bye

Corey Gish: If you sprayed it down with warm water and fabric softener mixed it would loose much less hair and be really really soft and you can still steam it straight afterwards

leeah galaxies: I literally don't even put this much time and dedication into the hair that grows out of the top of my head

Tyler Charnelle: when this tutorial was bomb as hell but you don't have a steamer

Ronald Middleton: Back in my early, early drag days,i would wear synthetic wigs because i worked a real job in fast food and anything other than synthetic was too costly for the budget so i went to my drag mother one night while we were getting ready for that night's shows and i just simply said ,"girl help?" She said come by the house tomorrow and bring all of your syns with you. This is what she did to all of my syn wigs and all i had to pay her was a little pot (which i got to enjoy as well ;) and while listening to Patti LaBelle,Tina Turner,Gladys Knight,Donna Summer, and all of the other queens and divas,we did hair ALL DAY!! Child by the time they were finished i think we were too lmao but those are memories i will always, always have of those fun times. R.I.P Daisy,i miss you and love you.

Ale: nice job, just a quick tip to make it more easier to brush the knots away, start from tips to roots, brushing the ends first then the mid parts all the way to the roots so its easier to detangle and also takes less hair off of your wig. keep up the good work ;)

Ignited Canvas: so satisfying to see the end result

Bethany M: For tangles I usually use a wide tooth comb and follow with the brush cause I'm too paranoid of ripping anything out cosplay is expensive

BiggD: OMGGGG super cool tutorial, the only thing I would recommend is to NOT use a brush on your wigs when de-tangling , always use a wide tooth comb or fingers , regular brushes tend to fray the ends and the only way to fix that is by cutting. this video was so helpful tho !! <3

Tatiana Nicole: the way you're going at the hair with the brush when it's still tangled makes it very obvious you've never had to detangle your own long hair, it brings back memories of my dad trying to brush my hair when I was a kid the end result is nice though

kaxtiechaos: I have been going crazy trying to find a good way to bring old wigs back to life. After watching this video I went out and got a fairly cheap steamer just to try it out... this is a life saver! I have so many pieces I love that are going to be brought back from the verge of being thrown away!

Brittney Tucker: You literally resurrected my wig from the grave! You are a life saver! This is the best method I have ever tried! Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial you are so talented ❤

dri ruiz: This tutorial saved sooo many of the wigs in my collection omg. Thank you sooo much

Siri.Styles: I don't ny even wear wigs and I watched part 1 and 2 lmao so informative and low key funny

Nneeka Estelle: Thank you so much for posting this video! I've been trying to figure out what to do with puffiness on the ends of my synthetic wig without having to think about cutting most of the length. Thanks again ❤

Luc . villa: "You can also use the steamer to see what part still has knots because the hair looks straight and sleek except for that one part that looks like shit." lmaoo you killed that dude

Stephanie Marie: Totally works. Thanks for saving me lots of future wig purchases! lol I feel like I go through synthetic wigs once a month. Ugh. This changed my wig game! Thank you! ❤

Barbie De Barb: Honey you saved my wigs life!!!! Thanks to you I can restore my favorite wigs without keeping being ripped off trying to find the same hair and people charging me $20 over the price. You are my new friend!!!!!

givemeprimelaughter: Well damn, this is incredible!! As someone who is only just getting into wigs I commend you. This is an amazingly inventive idea!! I feel like this will help, a lot. Thank you!!

rei: OMG!Where did you get that wig it's gorgeous (well The end results) these are wig goals I love the colour I just love everything about it by the way I subscribe keep up the good work

Sundeep Munde: I do this with my hair straightener and it works exactly the same ! So cool !

ThatOneEggplant: OMG this is soooo perfect! It's like you knew I had a wig to untangle! I couldn't find any videos specifically on this and I happened to come across this! Props to you and I'm subscribing

Gabriela Delgado: your brows... they are PERFECT

Jacs S: Thank you thank you!! I was ready to throw out a really nice wig that had been stored poorly and you just totally saved her liiiiiife

Hannah O'Neil: this video absolutely saved my wig. one side at the bottom had gotten frizzy and puffed out and it looked/felt horrible. but now it's back to its former glory and i can use it for cosplay again!! thank you for saving my first lace front <3 <3 <3

hellradiolives: Wow, I really didn't think it was possible to fix that wig. That was AMAZING!

Tmoni 78: Kyne thank you so much I have a wig from amazon a 32 inch blend that I wore the fuck out of on vacation I messed it up like crazy baby I washed the wig and it was allllllot of hair to break down lol I watched your video and used my conair steamer two hours to steam and you were so right the wig looks like real bundles no shine super soft. Thank you so much please do more of these videos Question can I crimp a human hair blend wig?? I want to crimp this baby so bad lol Peace Love and light

Stephanie Reilly: OMG THANK YOU!!! I’ve gone through sooooooo many straight wigs because I didn’t know how to revitalize them. Now I do

Yl'luria: This was super informative and helpful! Thank you!!

Khaleesi Kimber: I need to buy one of those now! I have a collection going on but need to restore a few ! Thank you for this! Beautiful wig.

Delaney M.: I'm definitely going to have to try this. I have so many once-pretty wigs that are now just a ball of fuzz that I wish I could still wear, and this is a really good method.

Odile LeNoir: I do the same process to my wigs, I brush them really good to detangle all the knots but before steaming them I usually wash the with hot water and a fabric soap, cause I find it helps take out every glitter or stain on the hair and it also wash out the smell of smoke that the wig absorbs if you work in a club.

Lilly Bizzo: I love you and your video is awesome! I'm getting my first wig because I'm doing a big chop soon from japanese straightening to my natural, this will help make the wigs I'm building lest longer. Thank you so much for your good work my dear. God bless your life!

WILLERRS: This is the most informative video I've been able to find. Ive been doing tons of research literally looking for everything you just did! definitely gained a subscriber!

Jenn Rants: This was great!! I've been scouring the YouTubes looking for information on restoring straight synthetic wigs, and could only find info on human hair or curly synthetic. This just proves, if you straight to the point information on wigs ect ask a Queen!! Thank you so much xx P.s I shared this video and link on my Facebook ❤

King•Celani: So amazing to watch, I loved the transformation! Thumbs up new sub x

Amanda Marie: This is a great video but the best way to brush a wig without causing a lot of damage is brush starting at the bottom up. If you just go straight at it the knots tend to get super tight before being ripped out and it causes the hair to become frizzy and hard to comb through. You can get the frizz out but the wig will still be easily knotted after, the steamer definitely helps get rid of the damaged but for those of you who don’t have one I figured I’d leave this comment for you as I destroyed a long wig by brushing it that way and I tried to flat iron it out but i was unable to salvage it and had to cut it into a short style (rip 32” wig)

WeirdBlackGirl: This is a very helpful tutorial, thank you so much for this!

Blue Rose Rey: Oml this fixed my doll's hair thank you ❤️

Tigertoes Turner: Ok, the end result looks fantastic, i did notice that you were still ripping out massive chunks of hair though! My thoughts, either get a hypo-allergenic detangling spray, or a conditioner spray for synthetic wigs, you can find them at sally beauty supply!

Angelica Regine: This work so good I did two of my old wigs and it came out great!!

P.S.M.U S.: I find a mixture of conditioner and fabric softener work miracles my tangled wigs !

Katrina Jimenez: I wear wigs all the time because I have very short hair and I just love them! I've thrown away so many over the years that I wish I would have seen this video sooner! I'm going to be buying a steamer! Getting to work on my wig I have now! And I will be getting more to come!!!! Thank you @onlinekyne so f****** much! I don't think you know how much you have just saved my LIFE!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Raz Dazzling: Thank you so much for this video my wig is just as beautiful as the day I got it :)

Doctor Plagus: I costume and needed this video soooooo bad! Thank you so much for the help and suggestions. I always love to learn different techniques to help me out!

Kathryn Hoist: Thank you so much! This was so incredibly helpful <3

† AGODA TV †: I love your videos now ! Thank you so much for being so informative and fun to learn from ! Mucho cariño ❤

The Gavin Guy: I’m still working on my wig but it is working amazing still a bit of friz at the end but I’m astonished at how well it’s working given that I had hairspray and giant rats in there and after this I’m going to follow your victory roll tutorial for my Halloween costume

Chick With Flicks: That was amazing...glad I came across this vid because if that was my wig I would've assumed it was garbage and wasted $$$$!!!!

Melody Smith: you deserve more views you have really good content and I can actually fallow along with this unlike other synthetic wig tutorials.

Lovrbboy: Girl! You're amazing ! Inspiring me to go the extra mile with my looks ! Got a new subbbbie :),

midge kg: Brilliant video, the wig looked amazing, may I ask would this work on any synthetic wig? or only ones that were bought in a straight style to begin with.

BadKitty: I said it before and I'll say it again. If you need any kind of beauty help or advice there is no one that knows their shit better than a DragQueen yall. I'm always in awe and can't help but stare at how beautiful you all are. So magical.

Liv: Thank you so much this helped my first place front wig. And I didn't know brushing plastic wigs just makes it worse and my mom was like I'm not buying you a new one. Andi had so much product in the hair but I used the steamer option on an iron don't worry I don't really directly press it but I just realised I need to fix the ends. But you literally saved my life like thank you

Alexis Maria: Thank you! I only wore my wig 2x so not enough to wash it yet but this is amazing for a quick fix! THANK YOUUUUU

Rakshya A Bhujel: Damn! You're a fucking full package from hair to makeup to making dresses.. I just came here from watching a disastrous wig transformation that brad mando did and saw a comment about you having the best synthetic wig tutorial and immediately seeing your channel I had to subscribe you.. you're amazing.. and I don't even own a wig.. wow.. i better stop typing now.. Still you're amazing and thanks to the person who commented on brad's video..

Ryvienna: Alternatively, you can get a spray bottle of water and a straightener. I wear synthetic wigs every day, and they get really ratty after a while. All you have to do is carefully brush out your wig with the brush he's using, and then use the spray bottle on the locks that you're straightening. The spray bottle + straightener creates steam, basically using the same process to fix your wig.

Brianna Banks: A lot of respect for this video because nobody ever had a wig that started out like mine is now until I came across yours

Janet Whitten: This was a great video. I watched it because I wanted to know how to take the bend out of several of my bob wigs and make them straight instead of having them curl under. So I do have a steamer so I will give it a try. Thanks!

Tori THE MOMMY McNeal: It worked!!!! Yu just saved me so mich money I’ve been throwing wigs out left and right! You are an Angel!!!! Thank you!

TA L.: Awesome video! I have a few wigs that I need to refresh for sure!!!

HeyItsJuju: Omg thank you!! I’m trying this right now!! So glad I have this steamer laying around!!

mannekin: I use a really big round bristle brush underneath and steam from the top. The bristles seem to flatten and smooth the hair really well. Like you said, the more bristles the better!

Trinity Victorian: This is perfect‼️ thank you so much

Hoppa Hoppie: If u ever got the chance to do finger waves on synthetic hair please do a video ... amazing video love u ❤

Richard Vrba: Great work. To keep wig head from rotating ,put a washcloth or towel over wigholder base, before placing wig on stand.

Luanne Brown: Oh ... let me add this.. I did take my one more expensive wig, I have one of those circulating curling irons.... I took that to it and did it in sections like you steamed ... (I'm still getting a steamer btw, because I hear they leave the hair looking and feeling so much softer) but this worked very well too. The iron was pretty hot too, the wig is heat safe. Thanks so much for making this video..

Kevin Rupard: Thank you so much for sharing this!! I love your channel. You got a new subscriber! ☺️

rainbowvixenco: That was an awesome transformation! I would have never thought to use a steamer GENIUS!

The Mun: Dude. You're a damn miracle worker. Thanks to you, the wig I love but couldn't use has been restored.

XCocoaCutieX: Love it, thank you for sharing!

Rian Searcy: This is thee best wig restore video I've ever seen. ❤️

Mundanos y Letritas: Thank you!!! You just saved my two long pigtails and my character's long long hair. I was considering trimming it

Bee H: This is magnificent. Thank you!

Falling Fandoms: So glad I found this video! Have a birds nest of a wig that will look so good after this. Plus you are like super cute

Ginger Bread: Very nicely done. Thank you for sharing.

Mehoy Minoy: that's amazing! wish I saw this before throwing out all my old tangled wigs.

Kari Lynn: How do you keep the underneath from tangling after doing this?

Goblin: I've been restyling my wigs for a few years now, and I always come across this annoying issue. After all the work I do trying to get it to look half decent, it wants to frizz up and tangle so quickly! Any tips on how I can keep it soft and less tangly for at least a little while longer? I've tried the fabric softener method, but I don't think it does that much.

Viviana Valentin: Wonderful video, thanks for the tips!

Jordan Caleb: Yas queen you just snatched my weave! Thank you for this

Luanne Brown: One of my most expensive synthetic wigs has tangled so bad after one wash. I have a few other cheap ones that have lasted much longer. I plan to get a steamer so I can do this with my most expensive wig. Thanks for the tip.

kittylove012: Thanks for posting. :) A quick question though, I would be using a pot of boiling water for this, how would I do the frizzy end of the hair?

Buffy Summers: Thankyou.. My sister bought a lace front wig and then she gave it to me... After she had backcombed the hell out of it. It looked like a dead cat.

Judy Anne: WOW!!! Turned out GORGEOUS!!! Looks brand new & expensive!!!

Becky Haycox: Thanks gurl, you saved me from looking like a Halloween amateur. The steamer was *everything*

Jerry Casas: So happy to have seen your video! I have wanted to learn to the finger wave to my own wigs. I am going to try doing one I will be wearing to a fundraising benefit in May. Thank you!!

Skye V: OMG BABE this looks SO good!! not only did you restore your wig but you restored my faith in synthetic hair! XOXO

wig 5000: when u brush a wig it's much better to start from the bottom(the end) of the hair so u won't pull half of the hair while you're brushing it

Marie Flower: Wow! thats what i do, i use my fingers first to try an detangle, then i use the brush :) It really does help with the tangles.

Angie H: You are such a creative, sweet soul! New subbie ❤❤❤

Erica Recana: Holy mother of wigs THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS I learned plenty from you. Seriously esp curly wigs are pain in the butt

life is beautiful: Wow, I have a few wigs that need to be retouched i refused to get rid of them because I knew some one out there would share a great way to restore them ....thank you thank you thank you ❤️ greatly appreciated

Zxaviann: That wig went from "I just survived a bombing" to Cousin It

AllieZero3: I Love The Video! Great Tips & Tricks! But Idk if someone already commented this But You Should Really Protect Your Face From the Steamer! It's Not Good For Ur Face! Lots of Love! ❤

Joy Ofodu: This is insane and SO SATISFYING!
