Does My Hair Stay Dry? I Tried The Swim Cap That Was Not Allowed In The Olympics

I don't know if my hair is going to fit in this. It felt like something was going to rip my edges off, hey guys, welcome back to our channel. It'S me, ebony, you'll, see erica probably later on in this video. This video is going to be a little bit different because it is like vlog style, because i just remembered that i bought a swimming cap to wear to the pool on days that i want to go swimming and eric. And i just happen to have the same day off we're like: let's go to the pool, and then i remember this cap is still in the package that it came in the mail with. I was like wait. Let me just use this cap and try it out and just show you guys how it works. So, basically, the cap is from the company called soul cap and we're actually banned by the recent olympics that were in tokyo, um, so yeah. It was like a big story for a few weeks and stuff. You know people were just kind of like well. Why is it banned? I don't know the specifics of what the olympics requires for caps, but whatever it was, it piqued my interest. I was like. Let me just go ahead and buy it and the next time i happen to wear braids and want to go swimming then i'll, try it out and wear it. So i'm wearing my braids. I want to go swimming so let's try it out, but yeah. Basically, this cap is supposed to hold hair. That is very thick. Black women have so much wear their hair. You know afro braids, so this cap is supposed to fit all of that underneath and, if you've seen any of the conventional um swimming caps. You know that how in the world does all that hair go underneath this, so this particular cap is supposed to fit it all. I haven't even tried it out yet so, like i said it's still in the package and i figured it's a perfect time to go ahead and try it out so eric and i are going to go to this pool, we found a pool on this app called Swiftly, we've done it before, where you know you can just book pools in the area and people actually swim for a certain amount of time in their pools and um yeah, pretty cool but yeah. So i was like let's just go ahead and do it and try it out and everything. So i was like: let's just try out soul cap and see how it is and if it fits everything um keep in mind. I am not an olympic swimmer. I don't know all the right techniques and everything so like i'm not gon na be swimming like i'm doing laps against somebody, but i am going to be dumping my head underwater, to see if my hair still gets wet, how it fits on your hair, because you Know with some swim caps, it hurts taking it off and putting it on, and it can say it comes in an extra large and xxl. I got the extra large and i'm going to see if it can fit see how long my braids are. I'M gon na see if it can fit in there, so i will see you guys at the pool, i'm gon na, try it out and everything, and hopefully it works okay. So before we start testing this out, i would do this video a big disservice. If i didn't necessarily point out and explain soul cap story and pretty much the significance of why they were banned from being used by olympic swimmers, so soul cap is a black home business that was created in the uk to serve a gap in a market that Severely underserves black hair anyway, which is swimming. It was banned from being used by black female olympic swimmers, who are few and far between anyway, just to kind of better protect their hair while they're swimming. Now the specifics of why it was banned from the olympics came down to allegedly the size of the cap and also it causing a disadvantage in the water for other swimmers. I don't know i don't swim competitively. I'M not well versed on this, so i really don't have a dog in this fight, but what i can speak on from, like a regular schmegler person's point of view, was that this band did birth. A brief backlash because it kind of sparked old ideologies of black people and swimming - and you know, as a general stereotype, for black people for the most part. We, you know, we just don't do water, especially when it comes to our hair um, for many reasons, but pretty much the idea behind soul cap. They were just trying to change that and they were just trying to close that gap, especially for women who have hair that just won't work well with the conventional swimming cap, but yeah the rest of this video you'll just see me testing it from just a regular Person standpoint, someone who's a regular swimmer, but i don't even say i'm a regular swimmer, just like a recreational swimmers standpoint. My point of view - and you know just to be clear that you know i'm not a competitive athlete. So any type of viewpoint from that i just don't - have for you but testing it out from someone who is in the black hair space. I just wanted to see how this cap was. It was just it just peaked. My curiosity alright, so i am here at the pool. It'S a beautiful pool, i'll show you guys in a second but um yeah. So here is what i want to show you and i got a neon green extra large, so the girl in the picture she had braids like mine, that were like this long. So that's why i was like. Let me just try the extra large, because i thought the xxl was for people with super long, braids or whatever like this. This is what it looks like. I don't know if my hair is going to fit in this, but we'll see i like the material, though so it's not like it feels almost like jelly type material. The last swim cap i remember wearing, did not feel like this. It felt like something was going to rip my edges off. You took this off with a little pony and then a bun and then swoop it up like this. Okay, yeah i'll. Do that. So it's like hanging down here. You got ta work with it all right. So, oh, okay, easy enough! Oh, this is cute and i have room for my bun so yeah. This is the perfect size. I probably didn't even need to put my hair in a bun. Let me try it without fun and it comes off without ripping your hair out. Okay, you can do that, but i'm assuming that anybody who wants to go swimming will probably do it. The first way, and just put it in like a little bun or something if you have really long braids just swoop it up into like a scrunchie and then put it on, but it does hold the braids like. I even have room to spare like back here. So maybe i could have gone with a large all right, so now it's time to get in the water, and i am geeking out that this freaking bikini matches my cap. I think you planned this one two three, as you can see, i'm out of the pool. Now did a little dunking like i said i didn't do any kind of olympic swimming or anything like you know, i'm not a swimmer by no means i'm just literally just testing this out to see if it works, because some caps, your hair, still gets wet, but We'Re going to see the moment of truth to see hey if it hurts taking it off b. If my hair is still wet, so let's try it out. Oh, oh, it comes off easily. Is my hair wet? No, it's not! No. My etch line isn't even wet. Just the part where i got my hair face wet right here, there's a little bit of hair that came out, maybe because the way i just took it off okay, so this is pretty impressive right here. I am i'm kind of amazed. Besides the little bit of hair coming out with it, i mean it didn't rip. My hair, like the other ones, did when i used to wear them, but yeah swim caps have come a long way. This is a nice option to have. If i want to go swimming, i just don't want to get my hair, wet or anything or if i'm wearing my braids or something just get them in. I don't know whatever the reason there should be: an option for everyday use for people who swim all the time if you're on the swim, team or anything at school or if you just like to swim, laps for exercise or you go to the rec center and Do like zumba classes in the water or any kind of water aerobics get this, because you can just take it off and go straight to work after it. So i'll have a link below um. I'M glad i decided to test it out. I almost forgot about it. I was like, let me just show you guys. I love that there are options, we're all for options with black hair.
