Hey guys Steven a salon guy here and today we're doing a haircut video on Jamie, who is a lovely model. Now one thing about Jamie: besides being you know, naturally beautiful and naturally great hair, you might think her hair looks perfect, but I'm going to show you guys a step-by-step tutorial. So I want you to stick with me this whole time how to take this shape and really clean it up and enhance her current haircut. So she has a nice haircut, but she's actually growing out a bad haircut from a long time ago. So it's really grown out and it needs some shaping up and I'm gon na show you guys how to get that really perfect gorgeous medium length, layered haircut, so I'm ready to go. Let'S get start okay, so we're ready to start Jamie's haircut, and I want you to notice a couple different things. So, first, she has a side part right in through here. This is where her new hair, naturally full. So we're gon na be working off of this area right here, we're creating our layered shape and what I'm simply going to do to start is I'm going to section the hair into four different sections, and I do this for every single haircut. Alright, because you want to create the division point, which is the section that you create right behind the ear that separates the front and the back, because really these are two - you know two areas in themselves: you want to treat them differently, so I create the division. Point which makes that easier for me as kind of a roadmap, so I have this out of the way I've got this out of the way and then the first thing we're going to do is we're going to establish and create our length now Jamie expressed to Me that she want to keep her hair on the longer side, keep as much of the length of chic as we can, but she is in kind of dire need of a haircut and the end new do need to be cleaned up. So the first thing we're going to do is we're going to create our base length and by looking at this, you can see the ends right through here. I'D say maybe like half an inch or so is what needs to come off, which is really not a lot, because I do want to maintain the length because she's been growing us out, but the problem is, is when you don't have your hair trimmed? You know the ends end up, looking very kind of thin and frayed looking, so this really essentially is just cleaning up the whole thing, I'm going to finish in the back and, as you can see, I'm just doing a basic one length shape and the foundation of The haircut is, I think, what's really really important is creating that base, creating that kind of outline of the entire haircut, because this, if you don't have a good solid base, then the haircut really is not going to be as good as it can be, and I Learned that many many years ago, but you want to have a solid base foundation just like anything like a building. You know if you're building a house, you want to have a good, solid foundation which, in the foundation for this is good, solid, straight clean lines throughout the entire thing. So now we're going to do is we're going to now connect this in through the sides and then into the front. This is where it's going to get interesting. Here'S what we're going to connect the back into the front - and I always suggest this - is why you separate these two areas right through here. So what I'm gon na do is I'm going to comb the hair straight down and now we're working with the way the hair naturally Falls. There'S my guide from before, and I'm simply going to cut straight across now. We have to create and almost recreate a shape that was existing already into here. That'S been growing out for a long time, so we have to now like really really work this in and make this a much stronger shape. So here is where the angling comes in, and this is what's creating that gorgeous kind of face frame that I love to do now. We see my hand my finger positioning is I'm pointing down the more you angle, your fingers like this, the more the shorter to longer it's going to be and the more length you're going to have. You don't ever want to cut layers like this, because, what's going to happen, you're going to cut all that length off these two fingers really are the key factor when you're cutting an angle. So you always want to have your fingers angled point it down towards the floor and that will control the amount of length that you're cutting off. So I'm, as you can see here, I'm working up towards the face and up towards the nose area, and this is really where you have the creative freedom to say how high do I want to take these layers? How high do I want to go? You know I don't want to create a bang. Do I want to create like just a soft kind of flowing layer? We'Re trying to do is create like a nice, you know medium to long leg, length, layered haircut, and I can tell you right now. Let me just spin you around this way, look at look at that even from right here, the flow that we have going from like right here, all the way down to this. That alone is a gorgeous haircut in itself. So now we're going to do is the same thing on this side: we're going to connect the length and now is here's where we bring together the division point which connects the sides and the back. So there is the side piece that means to cut. Once again, you can always comb there's nothing wrong with over combing, just to make sure everything is connected. So here is where we connect this part now coming straight down now, depending on the haircut that the model had or whoever, sometimes it might have been taken up too short in certain areas. So you have to be really careful. Sometimes I've seen like hair like this, where it's like you know so short right through here and it's so far back. You don't have a lot to work with you know. So. Here'S what you have to really start to really factor in how much hair you have into here to kind of accentuate that face frame. So what we're going to do is we're going to start the angle process right in through here and now, because I'm reversing my hands now. My fingers are pointed up this way towards the face, and everyone's a haircut is different, especially when it comes to been around this way when it comes to face framing and angling, because she might have had something done a while ago that I might say, oh man, Like this needs to be, you know, blended, better needs to grow out more, so I'm literally standing right in front of where I'm cutting right now and as you can see here, is where we're going to start doing all the matching up of everything cutting down. You want to pretty much stand either in front of where you're working or very close to it, so you can see all the angles and everything, so it's really clear for you and now, as I'm cutting this, I'm really creating that flow. Alright, let's spin around this way, see what we're doing we're now sickening up and strengthening this line right into here, so that the entire haircut has a solid foundation and a solid base. That really really really is the key to this. Entire haircut is creating a solid base. Now one little trick I like to do is up stand kind of across and I'll over direct a little bit just to make sure that we're like on the same kind of angle and that we're balanced the key to this is balance. So what I like to do is take the hair and I will bring it forward this way just to see where we're at and it's looking good and then I'm just going to bring us all forward towards the face and I'm just going to clean this really Really strengthen this line up because a lot of times, if you don't have properly executed, face frame, the base will be very kind of thin and stringy, and you don't want that. You do not want those stringy kind of fine wispy layers. You want something to be very, very solid and strong cool, so now we'll stand here, we'll bring the length down and in my previous videos, I've joked around saying. They call me uneven Steven, so so now we're just going to make sure it's even and now we'll be ready to work in through the internal layering. Now, let's start the layering process. Now, in the past, Jamie had a unfortunately bad haircut, where someone said that the hairstyle said that she was going to give her a face frame ended up giving her like bangs that were like up to here, and it took her six years of rolled out. Now. It took some time to grow it out. So you know. Sometimes people have an emotional connection with their haircut. They might have had a bad experience and that's where you know we have to make sure that we know we're not going to give them that bad experience. Again because the last thing I wanted for her to be upset and plus I had to you - know the amount of money I'm paying her to be a model big-time big-time, nice, alright. So here is the first section in the back that we're taking right into here and I'm basically going to comb this straight up and I'm going to create a layered shape when you comb this hair straight up the top part here. This is the layer right here. This is the length which means that, however short you cut this, this is where it's going to fall. Well, if I cut this here, it's going to fall right around the occipital bone area. You have to really really understand that we already have shorter length into the front. Alright, let's spin around this way, we already have the shorter length right here from the face frame, and then we have all this to connect. This is a lot of hair to connect into here, so we have to create a cut and a length for the layers that not only is going to give the cut some shape. It'S also going to clean it up, and it's not going to be super short. So, as you can see here, her ends really really need this. So, let's cut this amount off, which is really not a lot a lot, but it's going to really make the haircut look a lot better and healthier and also make her hair have a much better flow to it. Now I'm taking a horizontal section right in through here and I'm going to comb it straight up. I'M literally combing it straight up this way. There'S my guide right underneath right here and we're going to cut this straight across now, I'm going to drop this section out and leave it and I'm going to create another section on this side of the head and we're going to do two two sections. Basically, where we're creating our layered lengths in the back there's the guide from the other side, and now I'm going to do the same thing where I'm taking another piece underneath and combing it straight up and what this is doing, its removing weight. But it's keeping the layers really really balanced and consider sent throughout this whole back area. Now we drop this out and now we can actually connect this part in through the bottom, we're going to take a section right down the middle and we're going to comb this. So I'm using a fine teeth. I like using the fine teeth of the comb for this and now what's going to happen, is wait for it. Wait for it! There'S the length, there's the layer right there and here's. What we're going to cut is we're going to cut that weight that was laying on top of the shape that we need to remove and that my friends is really going to give you extremely even layers. It'S going to have a nice beautiful soft flow to it, and it's going to be easier for the client to manage, because everything is gon na, be nice and even want your layers to always be well-balanced. Very, even you know, and that's the key to this - that's like all this hair cut like the money haircut, you know because it's like it really is a great haircut. You know you put a lot into it now. What I'm doing is we're getting to the corners right in through here. Here'S your ear right on this side here and now I'm going to take a section right down the center or the short of the corner and I'm going to comb it straight back almost like towards the center not over dressing. This way, but literally straight back and I'm gon na, let all that hair fall out because that's the length and we're just going to take that little bit off, because you want to protect the length into here. So now I'm going to do the same thing going from the center to the right side of the head, we're going to repeat the same exact process. We did on this side. It'S the way you can get a little bit of a different angle on it again. I'M switching to the fine teeth for the cutting when I'm actually cutting the hair. That'S what I'm using is the fine teeth, what I'm combing I'll use the wide teeth. So here we go to section it. Take this out of the way. If you follow along with me on this, you know, like that's great, but if you follow this, when you actually have the opportunity to do this haircut, I'm telling you let me know in the comments if this really does help you, because this haircut really is a Lie changer trust me. This is why I can do it in my sleep for the most part, because I've done it so many times so there here's the corner just a little bit. It'S coming off. You don't have to cut, you know, tons and tons of hair, which is you know. Most people are shocked by that tool. Ankle. Oh, you have to have like you know, we're really cleaning this up and reshaping it from what she had. You know in the past now it's time to connect this into the top all right connecting this to this is very, very simple. You don't want to take, and I've said this before in a past: you don't want to take a section like this and cut straight up, because you need to create that flow going from here to here and if you were to take this section horizontally like this And just cut it, you can be actually ruining the whole thing. So here is the guide right here, and what we're going to do is we're going to cut down that way and work the length into the front of the head. That'S what we're doing is we're trying to create a shorter to longer type shape, so that this is the shortest point and going into the back. That'S why the first thing we do in the back is take that piece and hold it straight up. That is the guy that we're using. So if you cut that again, you're actually creating a second guide and you actually might end up even creating like a ledge in the haircut, which you don't want to do so now that we have that it's time to take horizontal sections, because we can do that. Now we've moved forward from the back part and now we're going to hold this straight up and here's where you might see more hair coming off. But as you get towards the front, there's not going to be really anything and we're going to take all this. In one section just like this - and there probably won't be much of anything coming off and there we go now the haircuts not over. We still have to connect the corners into here. Thousands were on a roll here. Let'S take a section right here. This is the corner right here right in this area, at the top, the corner and the sides, and now we're going to do - is we're going to connect this and we're going to work now we're in the true sides right into here now we're going to comb. It I'm noticing I'm angling, it going short so longer see that hair drop out drop. That'S the length, you don't want to cut the length because then you will have holes and things in the haircut that you don't really want to have. But what this is doing is it's actually making sure everything is well blended in there you go and last section on this side. It'S going to go all the way into the front here and we're doing this all in one scoop here. Let that hair drop out - and this is going to be a good visual for you, so you can see where you're actually connecting the hair. Now there I see some pieces that need to be connected and then we're going to do this all kind of one nice section just to make sure everything is looking good, which I know it is. But when you take big sections like this, it actually is a really good thing, because you get to see how all the hair is really flowing together in one section, and you can have all this really connected really well. So that's when you're, like really really giving you know a really good haircut, because everything is in sync of proportion. So now, basically standing on the opposite side same thing. There'S that little length. That means that length of the layer needs to come off in the corner and now we're working in the true sides we're bringing it straight up. There'S the length that drops which you want, because that's the protection of the length you do not want to cut that length, trust me and because her hair is parted, meaning there's heavier more hair on this side. So a lot heavier this side. Sometimes you end up cutting a little bit more just because to keep it balanced because there's not as much hair on this side. So I noticed right away that I was cutting more on this side. Just because you know it's got less hair as far as the density because of the section so you're going to actually have to cut it a little bit shorter to make sure it's kind of balanced with the other side, and I'm going to show you a nice Little trick to make sure that's all blended in nicely and now one last section into here again. This is where I'm taking large sections just to make sure everything is kind of connected together, and especially she has because of the texture. She'S got really. You know the hair of strands or fine she's, you know Filipino and they tend to have like either really super thick hair or just really fine strands, but she's got so much hair. So you can take those thicker sections now. This is the money shot right here of folks watch this. So we take this all straight back now, I'm taking a section from the left side of the part and the right side of the pork and I'm going to comb this all straight up, and this is where I'm going to see. If there's any sort of really, you know serious pieces that need to be cut and look, we did a fairly good job here. We'Re only just a little bit need to be cut, that's it, and I do this throughout the entire top. Just to make sure everything is connected, see not really a lot of hair. That'S awesome! When you don't have a lot of hair to cut that means you're like giving a kick-butt haircut. You know you want to make sure that, like if you're cutting like your sections are way off and you're like. Oh my god, you know like cutting like inches in off the cut. When you're doing this, then something went wrong somewhere. So we're coming along the finishing touches now - and this is where I'm just going to go in and visually make sure everything is blended and connected and we're going to come back and we're gon na be ready to start the blow drying process. Now we're going to start the blow-dry process and I'm going to utilize two of my favorite products. This is one of my newer ones. Called support. Cream and support cream is a styling cream that gives light hold in the hair, and it really gives you that support when you're blow-drying at so meaning a lot of times when blow-dry state of products you'll blow dry it and sometimes doesn't really of anything except or Weighted down too much, this is the perfect product that helps give you that hold it actually locks in the section when you're blow-drying it. So you get a little resistance. You get that volume and some light hold so you're like wow. It'S reporting the blow-dry, and this is really really an amazing product and I'm going to cocktail that with plush, which is my smoothing serum, but also it's like a volumizing and smoothing serum in one and when I tested this many, you know quite some time ago, along With other formulas, I said, I want something that isn't going to make it hair so silky straight and flat, so this is actually something that maintains the volume in your hair and smoothes it out to give it a nice sleek finish, I'm going to cost at least Three together and I'm going to start the blow drying process. I just want to talk about when you're applying product. As you can see here, I'm really really working the product through locking my hands onto the ends and smoothing it out with my hands and what that's doing is that's really kind of helping the product get saturated into the hair, all right a lot of times. People just still take a big, clump and they'll go like this to put it right here and they leave it or they put on the ends and and do anything. You have to really work it through over and over again and don't be shy when it comes to product products. You really got to get this product through now, I'm going to start the blow drying process. What I'm going to do is I'm going to start in the back here and I'm going to lightly remove some of the moisture from the hair. Then I'm going to use the brush to give it some, like you, know, flip a little bit we're going to bring this all forward this way towards the face, and then I'll show you the money, shot the end where you bring it all back and see the Finished result of the haircut alright guys, so this is the this is the time for the money shot. This is where head back like this. This is where we bring everything together and we wow them with our magic, our expertise. So you bring all this back. This way, hey Beck and I like to have them, bring their head back just because it just kind of makes the hair all kind of come back this way and gives it kind of little volume and shape okay bring a head forward now. Here we go and look at that huh look at that gorgeous shape, look at the volume she has and I think it looks really really beautiful. Now you just run your fingers to it and there we have it look at that gorgeous gorgeous shape here. Here we go so we work this in and I'm going to break this down for you guys right now, so you really can see but look at how this all really retransform her hair just to break it down again, we started with the base. First, create a nice base foundation here, cut one length brought that into the side and angled it towards the face. I always do the base first to create that nice shape and we really really strengthen this whole shape up and through here. So we have like a really nice core foundation that did that on the other side as well, so we have a beautiful foundation of the haircut. Then I created my section in through here two sections and the back subsections horizontally, one one one one brought it all straight up and cut it and then held everything out this way to really blend it and connect it. So that's how we have that nice beautiful flow, and then we connected the front going towards the face this way, the back of the top. We connected them to cutting this way. First, then, everything horizontal then cutting out the corners, the sides and then really just blow-drying. It nice and smooth giving it some nice shape, and here we have the finished result. Well guys Jamie here looks beautiful. As you can see, you feel good Jamie. Yes, thank you my pleasure, my pleasure. Well, thank you guys so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed this step-by-step tutorial. Let me know in the comments below if this helped you guys out. Let me know if you're professional I'd like to know you know which of you guys watching are professionals. So, thank you so much for watching and I'll see you next time for more videos with this long

Nadine Flores: Great tutorial thank you!

Yvonne Summer: Hello and thank you for your video. I have been watching a lot of your videos to learn how to communicate with my stylist. I have same type of style as your model, my stylist doesn't cut straight across but does point cutting, I don't like it because my hair is fine and it ends up with wispy ends, and now flow, the layers don't blend in. Does that make sense? Does it make sense to ask for it to be cut straight across, and after blow dry go and check where weight needs to be thinned out? I feel like the biggest pain of a customer but I have fine hair it doesn't take much to make a bad mistake that takes months to grow out! I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Gabe Briel: I love watching your videos. I've always had Trouble WiTH layers, bad experience once on a client. Ever since I'm very insecure about doing them.

Tasha Butler: I love your way off cutting ❤ thank you for sharing I'm a Stylist in Ireland from Dublin always learning ✌️

Faranak Hashemi: I think it was awesome and I really enjoyed it. Thank you so much

alloneword154: If you really watch what he is doing, you will notice that it's just basically connecting the dots. Also important to have a solid baseline of the perimeter first. Stephen, can you talk about the difference of cutting with the natural parting of the hair versus sectioning with a center parting? When is it best to just go with the natural parting versus a center part. I know starting with a center parting gives more versatility because it's even all around. Thank you. You are great.

Kristin Stuut: My teachers taught me to do a 180 degree haircut for layers. So I take vertical sections from the back and point my fingers up. But my angle would be completely perfect but yet they don't blend very well. Especially on the side with more hair. Do you like this style of layers better? I feel like this looks WAY more blended than the way they taught me. What do you suggest?

RaqStylist: whats your favorite comb? for thick hair? fine hair? mens short cuts?

Be Be: You explained it well- i had layers going back too far so this helped to adjust it..Thx!!

Bella Ela: I am a hairdresser and i will try this haircut on My mother ❤️ Thank u sooooooooooo much

Rhea Ko: thanks for sharing your talent TheSalonGuy, more videos !

Mimi: I love this and I love that when you say a half inch, it’s a true half inch.

parvin zarrin: Thank you for sharing your great cutting techniques simple and easy and helped me a lot
