Hi everyone - this is Margaret ma'aming with 60 and me. This is the place where women over 60 come to be inspired. My guest today is Denise macadam with 30 years experience as she is one of Britain's top hair. Stylist she's worked with celebrities and Royals and she has a royal warrant which enables her to work with the royal family in the UK. Denise has worked with some of the world's best photographers and celebrities like Cindy Crawford and Jane Seymour, Grace Kelly, some wonderful icons of style and people who trust her hair, their hair with her. So it's really great to have you here, Denise welcome. As you know, we have a community of 100,000 women over 60 and a lot of conversations around hair and beauty and one of the things that, as we get older, we've talked about, our hair gets thinner, it gets grayer our faces change or in our skin tone, And we try to make good decisions about what hairstyle to get so. We'Ve talked in another video about short, hair style. Let'S talk about medium, you know, medium is kind of an interesting length. I mean it's sort of the length of your hair, perhaps yeah. It is the kind of options that you see for women if they want medium length hair. I think you I mean, if you think of medium here you'll I mean a Olivia newton-john Mary's, a medium at the head of hair, Diane Keaton, it's a it. It'S cut it medium in here, it can be say just touching the shoulders just a little bit fatherís and maybe slightly layered. It beat it it's hair that you can actually grab. You can pull back and maybe you know exactly may look short in a bit. You know kind of just on the shoulder bending, but you still have that option to be wearing up an evening. Yeah just nice real, but not. I know Pam just throwing it up, which can look good. If you, you know, you're being ads, you've got nice little black dress. You want to put on fabulous, earrings, yeah and really sure them off. So it just gives you a little bit metal bit more here in a sense. But if it's slightly layered - and you know with Diane Keaton is kind of Olivia newton-john, the callosum movement in it. It means that it's a it's just got a little bit more height and I should go order. Hi, I'm not necessarily mean backcombing height, but just that bit of value stream from the roots. Just that volume you know, and it's a great and it's just a little bit. So it's kind of a medium here is kind of that. It'S the area where you go from, you know it's it's a transition into the short area where you're not gon na move short. So maybe you maybe you've come from very long here and you go into that medium here, but there's still that feeling of you know a lot of people call that here a medium because there's a lot. You know, ladies go to yoga go to Pilates, but they want to still get a scrunchie in and pull it pull it back into little minnows. You still want to be able to pull it back. Yeah I'll, stick with medium. If you can get a little ponytail in your medium yeah, so tell us, I mean when you were describing Diane Keaton, and you said that it was kind of shaggy. Give us the kinds of a medium. Obviously would be. You have a straight Bob. I mean I and I can't think of someone that yeah I mean out your hair is medium length uh-huh. So this would be a medium length Bob and then what do you call a shaggy? One I mean. Is it called a shaggy yeah? It was that so much called shaggy, but is where is layered and it layered? Okay, sliced is very slice. It'S got a lot more texture in it, so it gives you a bit more volume can give you a bit more height and, and also you can do other things with it. You can push it back a bit easier. You can flick it out. You can flick it under you've got a little bit more style options. I mean even em, something like Goldie Hawn, I mean she's out here is long, but it's medium and it's layering. That makes sense. Yes, a little bit more happening, um! It'S it's slightly more! It'S just a bit more versatile. If it's got more layers in it, I think it's just a little bit more happening and me, oh sorry, go ahead really delay on that on the computer. I'M sorry, not somebody else. That'S good man know what I was gon na say while you're thinking of that name is. I think that the thing about medium hair for me is that you feel like you've got hair. You know you actually feel like you've got something around your face, that you know it just gives you a sense. So some women love short short hair. We talked about this, you know the pixie hair get or the, but the short bob, and I just kind of like the idea of it having hair and and why it's so important, to put you know good product on it. I guess and have a good haircut, would you say a medium haircut is a very important one to have a good yeah. So all kind of your cut should be a great haircut, so medium high veneers. You know it should be a great haircut as well. The difference of medium ear is you probably need a bit more product? You probably need a bit more volume, mousse and you might even you know each grit spray, serum, defini or definite some hair, spamming serums are great. You. You just need to put a bit more douche into the root Susan, so you can get that kind of volume that you need and a bit more flicky and it just um and also you know you are dictated by what's in fashion at the moment as well. So you know kind of there's an element where things are much more sliced a little bit more chippy. Yes, oh thank you! Here'S! Oh here's got a great freedom, though yeah it's got fantastic freed up a little bit like claws. Your clothes were very sculptured before you know. If you go back in time and you just look back a hundred years - cause ver much more rigid here was much more rigid. You know it was plastic chignon services yeah, as close goes as the summer comes in, and even if you've got kind of very short here, you might get a bit more medium for the summer so that when you're on the beach you can pin it back. You can clip it back, so you know you've got a bit more movement. There'S some great. If you look at Alexander Perry, the some of the hair accessories are stunning, so it's great to have that little bit here, just to learn that blue there yeah a little bit jewelry near here, but sparkles. So a little flower in your hair yeah here slice in here barrettes are back in a million. Yes for things like that, so you can put something in your hair and just add a little bit more glamour. Ornamentation you can ornamentation ornamentation, I'm all for ornaments in your hand, I love it okay. So, in a long Valley I love Alexander Perry and I I feel very honored that you know he inspired me in my career never met the man, but I feel them. I feel in the hand that touched the man in the hand, to touch the hand I am and ching-yuen was my party in the bigot and also strong cutting, but some of the heat accessories that you know they've just opened recently in London and some of the Accessories, but I feel very proud of some of the old one as well and the de Monte, and I mean the crystals in them notes or warrants or ski crystals there when you buy them they're like buying pieces. You know they're not just Jerry yeah they're like jewelry for here and fit they just em they're, just very glamorous, and they make something. You know something that I look one of the lovely that were here, bands just tiny bit of something in it, they're just really a competing you, you know just little very simple, dress and just something like that: you're, not too old. For that, if anything, this is a great time to use them because they're, you know, they're, lovely and some of the nice bands on you know. So, if you want to wear your hair back you're older, you can't just do in an elastic band. It'S gon na be something with a bit in it a jewel. That'S guarding, oh yeah, I'm not seeing a bull because ratchet serif, Erickson's and wedding, the Duchess of York. You know she had boys for every occasion. Yeah. I don't yeah, I'm not saying ball, but you know some great accessories so meet him. Here is a lot more playfulness in it. There'S a lot more you can do. I think you've made a really great distinction about medium hair, that it's playful, that you can accessorize it. You can ornament it. You can make it. You can put your personality where you could do that with short hair too, but is your so you're right there's something about medium that you can play with, and you know talking about medium hair. You talked about the need for maybe some different product, and I know you mentioned mousse and you also mentioned serums, and I wondered if you tell me a little bit about serums, I'm not familiar with their hair serum just or just when they. Let me maybe you're doing a lot more blow-drying that this serums just kind of find out the ends, and it just gives a little bit of um calm ability in a little bit edged a bit of a shine. So if I'm looking at your hair right now, Margaret, I could just Chuck a bit of serum through that quite quickly to make it a bit this yeah, but a little bit more poppy. I just see them. An actual fact is the best thing. Is that looking a bit of furniture that you know is cleaning or whatever, but you grab that polish you put that cloth over it and you look at it again. You wow so you're excite, the Polish. Do you so cute house? Does some excuse me? Is it French opening so sorry, because we've got ta go to line a delay? Caritas does a kind of an oily. It'S not it really a serum, but I put that on the end or on argan oil. Yeah is that bad policy I've been, I was great, and oil is great. Just so anything you've got to watch with oils, sometimes, as they can weirdly be a little bit dehydrating, whereas the serum is there's an oil in it, but it the thing is it to to make the serum a bit. Finer is a bit it Sam. How can I see it? It'S actually more moisturizing yeah. If it is a bit like using an oil with balsamic, vinegar, uh-huh, they really need shake and well and to mix well, okay, because sometimes sometimes all your pure oils do it just mix the right way. With your hand, you know, in fact you know doing some oil treatment treatments and some organic oils etc. You know it's quite a great thing to heat them up for a little bit, so they really do swell and absorb into the hair. So I would be more. I'M trying to go for the word serum. Can you give us any examples? Denise, any ones that you like or the N bring. There is Lourdes. I mean those in English jettison and, as she person read, you've got a serum a. I call it a serum, but they actually call it the volumizing, no oil oil for fine here now that could freak you out. Oh I'm fine here. As I said in earlier times that we've spoken, you know, conditioning to pioneer is vital. Yes, so that would be a serum in your hair is quite fine, so you you just wrap it into your hands and then just take it through the other great thing for here, which is an old-fashioned thing which is dressing creams now creams we used to use All the time, but they are coming back again and you get different types of creams this one they call it thickening cream, but is it kind of gel like as well? This is very clear: if you just rub it through your hands, you'll see the shine. I'M a cancer and you can just disperse it into the air - can actually feel it kind of thicken up. They can see. What'S happened, I do you. Can I help you, please yeah, okay, so um. So, basically, if something I was looking over the night, that's a bit more than a serum Ishak and feel that would be good. If I was going out later, you know I actually can feel that it could separates the hair a little bit. It gives up my light. It shows your eye light, especially. I can actually see the movement in the layers a little bit more. You put greater when that's actually that's a really lovely product. I don't wan na get over see. Oh, oh I'm! So it's more assemble OS, so fabulous and it's called a thickening cream. Okay and then you go back to some of the old fashioned creams. I haven't got too much you, I'm not keen on thickening spritzes and because I find with their a little bit, they become a little bit messy in here and you've got to wash as you get older with messy here because may see here can look greet your Twenty five, thirty or my daughter, it's a bit, if you think of a young girl, and we didn't wait: sick 27. She can go up in the morning and look gorgeous. We need to go up in the morning and do be it's just a little bit of tweaking. Well, there's a little bit, I might grab my counter and think you know them. You you've got to run to the door and there's a red, nor is the red to you and a doll that don't even you can't just run over the door. It'S yeah, you know, there's got to be a little bit of chittim eating on route. I will adore little embarrassments, yes, something yeah! Definitely so you know the book, the Bob Lee hat and a bit of powder and a bit of lip gloss works. It'S all in the car. Actually ever do a dark run because then, if I meet something else on the door and the door changing not just food but and subsequently that's why a lot of people wear sunglasses, but yet sickening creams and things of that. Okay, I'll, tell you what we'll do. Just just so everyone who's watching enjoying our conversation here is that we'll put all this information in the article that will go with this video, so the products will list the products and the right spelling. So you don't have to be kind of back. You read rewinding the tape to hear what you said will put everything in the article and also will put pictures will put some examples of medium, hair or style so that you can see exactly what we're talking about, and these I think we've covered medium hair and We'Re going to do another short video on long hair, so stay tuned for that, but thanks again Denise you're, just a wonder: I've really enjoyed the time with you.

c sikomas: I love this vid because its like a circle of friends around a table talking about their female things, and no one understands outside of the circle! Its our commonalities being shared; being women, evolving, expressing, providing tips and pathways to one another, accepting others where they are, in the moment, and offering encouragement as we go along. It makes a difference. Thank you for your initiative, this large project that you work so hard on, and all your networking! c xx

Rejeanor Scott: Also, I think it would be helpful to have a list of products that are being discussed. Thank you for doing this.

d lambert: I’d love to see something from curly thick medium length hair and options for undercuts

Rejeanor Scott: I think inserting pictures of examples of what is being discussed would be helpful.

Mary Blythe Howland: Great video! Thank you! ❤️

Leona Reeves: Great video! I’m now a subscriber.

Kimberly: Margaret is great but as hard as she tries she cannot get this hairdresser to give examples and descriptions of medium haircuts..the hairdresser just keeps going on about how you can put it up if you want too..use accessories ,hair products, etc..where are the examples for different type face shapes..in the medium length category?
