Long To Short Layered Bob Hairstyles ✂ Short Choppy Bob ✂ Medium Length Hair Tutorial

Celebrity Hairdresser Stuart Phillips demonstrates on model Carla, how to cut a layered bob haircut, which takes place at Stuart Phillips Salon in Covent Garden, London. Carla's hair to start with was very long but this tended to drag her face down, the hair was also thin and flat. This haircut is chosen to help thicken, add texture and create more fullness to her face!

Top colourist Lara Clark transforms Carla's hair from brown to an array of golden blondes, creating more dimension to the haircut. Lara shows a few different techniques of applying the colour, including to hairspray the hair then paints the colour on to her hands then wiping over the hair.

Top Make-up artist Anna Orkiszewska demonstrates how to apply the make-up, keeping Carla's face very natural and beautiful.

Photographer Adnan Siddiqui took all the photographs for this video shoot!

Hi, I'm Stuart Phillips, and this is my model Karla I'm going to be creating a bob style haircut. Then I'm going to layer and chop into it to make it really funky by jumping into adds a little texture by layering episode, a little bit willfulness to that and that's exactly what we are, what I'm about to cut the fringe now I can be quite shocking. Soft and all different lens hello, my name is Laura Clark and I'm going to be coloring Carla's hair today, using an array of different blondes, I'm placing my Falls in different directions to create different textures. So, every time the hair moves you get a different amount of texture throughout the haircut yes way to create some texture. All I want is their hair to sit out from the head, because what I'm actually going to do is I'm going to color their ends. Much much lighter so that she gets a tip, perfect hi, my name's Anna okay, chefs car, I'm going to putting on makeup on my model. The makeup is going to be natural today, now I'm using contouring powder to take down not without shape of the teeth. Now that makeups finished I'm going to blow-dry the hair, it was smooth at our little bit to start with and then mess it up a bit later on. As you can see, this lists the hair out quite a lot now. Is it a lot more dimension to the haircut you

Steven Truong: Stuart, you and your team work so amazing together it blows my mind! I love the transformations you give people.

JodiMSmith: Really love the overall results. The colour technique with the spray and then sweeping colour over the remaining ends give a really good effect. Makeup was perfect for the style and colour. Yet again a great video for all levels of stylists thanks x

CrushingReality: The cut was AMAZING. I was quite sceptical at first but the end result was just WOW :)

Stuart Phillips: Thank you, pleased you enjoyed the video! The models hair was also very thin, choosing the right cut and colour can really help make your hair look and even feel quite a bit thicker! Stuart

TheSongBender: Hi Stuart! Thank you so much for reading this- I was hoping you could give me a a bit of advice with finding a new hairstyle. I've had the same one for years now and to be honest, I'm just tired of it. I think I have an oval face, but some people I know say it's more of a heart shape. My hair's straight, dark brown, and relatively thick. Recently I've really wanted to cut it shorter, maybe some sort of bob. Any advice would be amazing- seriously, thank you so much <3

TheMspinklips: You have done really amazing styles and also you seem such a nice person that really cares about how people look when they leave your salon..

belindawntr: Great cut, colour and make-up, perfect results!

Stuart Phillips: Colour consultations are more difficult from a photo but from what I can see, I feel you would look good with a chocolate brown all over tint with very fine slices of golden blonde highlights! Hope that helped! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: Once you have got used to that length you can always go shorter another time and at that point you will know if shorter will suit! There are quite a few variations of the bob, you could start by keeping it one length, then another time add some graduation at the back, or even very long layers, that's the great thing with the bob, if you like you can keep adapting and changing. For the fringe either a heavy or chopped into soft fringe would look good, it depends on the effect you'd like! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: Hi Katelin, Thanks for uploading your photo to my Facebook page. After studying your face shape, bone structure and hair type, this is what I recommend! Your face shape is oval with some length and also a little square. As your hair is quite fine and I feel a little too long, it tends to just hang and pull your face down, it’s also a little shapeless from the front. I would tent to loose between 2-3 inches of the length but it’s important to create a round shape on the outline (continued)

Stuart Phillips: Finally I would cut VERY long layers, as this would just give the outline of your hair a little more shape, although the length that it’s right now I wouldn’t have any layers, only if you lose 2-3 inches. For a styling alternative I would place some waves in your hair, as this would look soft and because your face is oval you can get away with the waves slightly filling out your face. Hope that helps! Stuart

Susy Flores: I LOVE How She Did The Color, Amazing!

71Peekay: Stunning cut, the colour really suits too!!

Stuart Phillips: Hi, thanks for sending me your photos on facebook. A bob style is one of them haircuts that have been around for ages, yet each year a different Celeb seems to have one. I do think it’s a style for 2013 though! A bob doesn’t suit everyone, as it’s a hard lined haircut, also depending on your face shape determines which length to cut it.

FABWAGS: love this video, my hair is insanely thin, and falls a lot like if I c an afford to loose a strand. The color was spectacular and the make-up was like he icing in he cake Bravo to all perfect work

Anete Antone: Hi,Stuart! Thank you very much! Will definitely try it out!

Stuart Phillips: Thank you Steven, pleased that you enjoy watching them! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: The next two videos that my team produces will focus on just the styling of the hair, the first video will be three looks styled for a Lady Gaga lookalike, the video after will include three models with medium to long hair, they will be having their hair styled using flat irons, heated rollers and tongs.

Stuart Phillips: Hi lauri, It's a nice haircut and I don't think it's too choppy. If anything looking at your face shape and texture I would have left the length and layers around 1-2cm longer! Although I feel in 2-3 weeks, once it's grown a little you should feel more comfortable with it! Stuart

Elena Mihaela: Good job man!Congrats! It's awesome!!!!!!!♥

jeannierlewis26: This guy really knows how to cut hair, he is a hair wizard!!!!!

mhud3141: Wasn't sure at first as so much hair was being cut but the end results were amazing, you totally transformed her :)

Stuart Phillips: Thank you, appreciate that! I do enjoy making people look good! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: It costs £200 for the cut and £120 for the colour. The very high price that you mention is for a complete hair package which includes a private rock band that performs while your hair is cut and coloured, 2 nights stay at a 5 star hotel, the plane ride over and many other things that completes the package! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: Hi Sara, have just finished filming a hair shoot with 8 models, will be uploading the casting first, as this was part of my new TV show, followed shortly after with the actual hair shoot!

71Peekay: Great Colour and Cut Smashing!!

jennasimpson212: I'm 28 and never had a decent style, would love this team to sort out my hair!

echonotemusic: Wow, great work!

Stuart Phillips: Thank you so much, that's very kind of you to say!!

Ash Vina: Okay i will take your advice into consideration! Thank you so much :)

davismarie32: Loved the make-up, simple but affective

Bridget Potter: It started off and was thinking mmmmm but wait till the end, it's a great hair change, she looks so pretty and the style suits her BIG time!

Stuart Phillips: If you attempt to layer with the length you have now it will end up looking lank and the shape would just collapse. I would cut into the entire outline giving it as much texture as possible. For the fringe I would cut it to about end of nose and again chop into it making it soft and sexy. Then you can sweep it to one side making the length lift to about 2 cm bellow your eye. (continue)

MissJessyeNorman: Gorgeous color and cut, extremely becoming. You and your team are wonderfully skilled and talented. The make-up is too heavy. She looked more of the confident, aspirational, rich girl when her face was bare. Certainly some make-up could've looked lovely, but this was overkill and not at all natural as the make-up artist intended.

Stuart Phillips: At Stuart Phillips salon it depends on who cuts and colours it! If a top stylists cuts your hair and the client had little to no colour to start with, for both would cost £130.00! If Stuart cuts your hair that would cost £200.00 and Lara would charge around £90, this depends though on how much colour was originally on your hair to start with! we would first fully discuss with you every possibility and then give you an exact price.

Myles Acosta: Love your videos! ♥

Stuart Phillips: Thank you Lucille, I hope you find a good team of artist's in New Jersey! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: Thank you Joanna, appreciate that! Stuart

duskmonster5: Hello Stuart, I'm trying to decide on a new hairstyle. I've recently regrown my hair it was to my chin and now its about midback. I don't want to lose the longer length but I do want a new style. I was also thinking of bangs but I'm not quite sure if they would suit. Any suggestions would he helpful! Thanks!

Selma Peronne: I'm from the states and never heard of this salon but there a pretty awesome team!

Stuart Phillips: @jeannierlewis26 I went for that length because Carla's face is quite slim with a bit of length, by taking it to a bob it slightly widens her face which will suit much better. If you notice in the video at the before photo, your see Carla's hair is thin, weak and almost see through! This bob cut improves her hair by making it look thicker and importantly much better quality.

victoria grant: Wow that's a great cut! I like the makeup too!

jessicat7676: He cut's so effortlessly, London hairdressers are normally really good!

Anete Antone: Hi Stuart! I really love your work, wish I lived in London. But I think it is great that we can ask advice here. I am originally brunette/dark blonde and I have had different hair colors/hair cuts as I love experiment, but now I fell I really ned some advice. This summer I will be made of honor and I want to look my best. I wish you could give me some advice. Thank you!

Stuart Phillips: Hi Lucy, the model Carla has a fairly long oval shape face, if this was to be cut any shorter at the back I feel it would have made her face appear even longer. The other reason I chose this length was because I wanted to create a soft layered bob, rather than a hard looking one! Stuart

felicityfive1: What brand of make-up did Anna use, enjoyed watching her apply it?

Lucille M: I am in the U.S. New Jersey I wished I knew of a talented hair stylist colorist and make up artist. You do wonderful work the whole team.

Stuart Phillips: Hi, after looking at your photo on Facebook I feel that you could get away with a bob cut, your face is oval with a small amount of heart. I would keep the bob shape square rather than A-line which means going longer towards the front. This is because an A-line may make your chin appear more pointed and a square shape bob with slightly widen your face which oval shapes can get away with. I would start with a longer length bob no shorter than your jawline (continued)

Stuart Phillips: Hi Anete, I have looked at your photo and this is my opinion. Your face is oval with length so I feel that your hair is pulling your face down making it look longer. On the other hand if it's too short it will have a similar effect. I would cut the length around 1 inch lower than your hair line and the sides around middle of your neck. I would layer your hair but would chop into each and every layer. This will give you more texture and importantly make it look slightly thicker. (continued)

Kay v: can we have a tutorial on how you styled it at the end? :)

Lauri Jackson: Hi Stuart, I have baby fine hair and have always worn a bob... it was getting to lank and I visited a new stylist recently who created lots of choppy layers and this technique that looked like thinning but she said added volume... while I love how it looks, I can't get over how it feels... i feel like I have no hair... but it looks great. She did cut it dry and I feel did a good job... just never had it so choppy before..any insight?

cyndit434: Enjoy watching this salon make these hair video's, keep em coming???

laceywin: Wasn't sure at first but worth the wait to see end results!!

aleah leigh woods: really nice hair your speed when cutting insain really talented xx

EverythingTween: i love the end result

jeannierlewis26: What made you go for that particular length Stuart?

Stuart Phillips: I would say that your face could definitely get away with a bob, I wouldn’t take it to your hairline though as it may make your jaw line too square and hard looking. I would cut the length about 2 inches below your hairline and slightly angle it down, so it becomes longer at the front, if you cut it square it will look too hard on your face. I hoped that helped! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: Hi Anete thank you, please you enjoy watching the videos! To answer your question I would first need to take a look at a recent photo of you from the front and side, I will then be able to give you some advice. If you upload the photo to my professional Facebook page. Your find the link at the top of my YouTube channel page! Stuart

Nayely M: I was thinking about cutting my hair into a medium bob(would land on my sholders). I have a heart shaped face and a pointy nose. do you think this would be a good idea. it would mean alot if you replied. thanks!

Ash Vina: I admire you work. Keep it up! i would like to change my haircut and color too. And wanted a bob hairstyle (like Jennifer Aniston). is it a.. i would say a 2013 style?

Stuart Phillips: Hi, at present the Stuart Phillips salon works on shows and TV just in the UK but that could change in the future. Pleased you liked this video! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: Lol, any women that I restyle the hair on can drastically change the appearance of a face shape and even bone structure and a good stylist can do this. As you said you’re blessed with good looks, then your half way there and that’s why if your stylist gives you even a mediocre cut it would look quite good. (continued)

RukiaFujioka: Looks awesome! The model looks so much better with this cut and color then before. I like this makeup artist much more then the previous one. The model could have definitively stood to use some primer before her foundation though.

Mario Tito: A VERY CREATIVE HAIR STYLIST OUTSTANDING TALENT

Stuart Phillips: Thank you!

Stuart Phillips: Thank you :)

Stuart Phillips: Thank you :)

sherribrns: How much would this make-over cost?

paula19762007: Beautiful

kaylewintress: What brand of hair colour did Lara use?

Lindsay Powers: GREAT HAIR VIDEO TEAM! DO YOU HAVE A BLOG?

Danika Bass: I have very fine hair, it is pretty straight, and it is juuust below the chin. I want to grow it out(I donated my hair and I had a long pixie!) but it is so limp, and it doesn't tease well-which I don't do anyway. What to do?

MiLing Burgin: Very Nice love the cut

Stuart Phillips: Hi, the brand of hair colour that Lara used was Majiblond By L'Oréal

Stuart Phillips: Your welcome, good luck if you go for the style!

Stuart Phillips: Hi Danika, I could tell you from your description but it would be far more accurate if you first upload a photo to my professional facebook page. Make sure you leave your YouTube name and the name of the video that you left the comment under! The link is at the top of my channel's page! Stuart

Katelin Middaugh: Will you help me find a better hairstyle? I really love your work and wish that your salon was in my town. I have very thin hair, and a square face shape (I think). I've pretty much have had the same shape all my life (long, a bit of layers) I'm dying for a change! Something shorter would be nice. Please help me. I sent you a photo on facebook. Thanks. You're the best.

Sara Ramsey: How much is it for a cut with Stuart?

Lauri Jackson: thanks.. I appreciate the input

lisat3001: I'm now hooked on all video's from Stuart Phillips

Stuart Phillips: Hi, best thing is to upload a couple of photos to my professorial Facebook wall, reminding me of your YouTube name. I will then help you decide on a haircut! Stuart

Stuart Phillips: Thank you Mario

Stuart Phillips: At Stuart Phillips Salon the prices start at £45 for a lady and goes up to £200 for Stuart himself

Lindsay Murray: Was a good cut and colour but I would have cut it even shorter, don't mean to be picky, just my opinion!

Stuart Phillips: Thank you

summersunfun345: Her hair was so thin at the beginning, I'm no hairdresser but Stuart so got it bang on the money!

Stuart Phillips: My client base is big because I can take women that are plain looking and transform them, if you take it further as what you mention as ugly, (most people have at least one thing that’s attractive and I make that feature stand out more in my cut) then of course there not going to walk out stunningly beautiful, certainly more attractive though! Stuart

christyabb27: The model's a babe at the end, beautiful eye's.

Dhvani Thakkar: My hair is very long till my back. I wanna cut them . which style would suit me. I would like mid length hair rather shoulder length.

code shanshan: I was wondering if a layered bob cut like Rapunzel's would look okay if I have a chubby face. Would it make my face look even chubbier?

Tootes Etron: Amazing! Please cut my hair :O hah

Tony Viet: it costs 20000 dollar?

Stuart Phillips: this means it would be cut straight across the back then rounded across your shoulder blades, this would do a few things, it would help make your hair move in a more natural way, would look more feminin and would make your hair look thicker. I would also cut your fringe (bangs) around mid nose length and slightly chopped into the ends, this would have a nice soft feel and shape the front of your face better. (continued)

sarajery8: when u upload other videos?

RealWithAida: cute

fasterthings: We all know Stuarts the main attraction.

mati211p: The music is great, but i prefer only long hair, that`s my opinion.

sarajery8: like this makeover

Dhvani Thakkar:

Dhvani Thakkar: Plz suggest something
