#pixiehaircut#shorthair#haircut

Hi guys in this video we're going to be showing you how we transform this into this. This is a lovely pixie haircut. I call it my intuitive pixie because i basically didn't know what i was doing. I basically just went with my gut feeling, because it was my first time cutting maxine's hair into this pixie. I had to do a lot of rough cutting at first and then shaping it as i went to so there's almost two stages to this haircut uh. Let'S get started so basically, maxine had had her hair highlighted before she came in to see me because it would help so first thing i do, is i section the hair front and then the crown and then the back or the nape of the neck? Sorry this is a little bit choppy. I actually had this on time lapse on my phone, which is why i tried to slow it down, so i am basically lifting up the part of the nape of the neck, where the bulk of the hair is and i'm cutting it straight across now, the higher You lift up hair the softer the hair falls and that's why i'm not cutting it straight across i'm lifting the hair and chopping off all of the length that i don't want there. So this is basically a rough cut, i'm taking off the main length - and i continue to do this around the head shape. I go from left to right and i section off the bottom from the top. Maxine has a lot of hair, so here i'm slight cutting. I'M going inside of the hair and taking my scissors and sliding up through the hair again she has a lot a lot of hair, so i'm not worried about doing this technique. If i was working with someone with fine hair i'd be a bit more careful with how i was slide cutting and where i was placing my sliding. So i love this technique. This is kind of like razoring watch as i do this. It'S kind of taking off that bulk, because what i want is. I want the hair to kind of sit in a curved position on the head shape and, of course, you do have to take into account the shape of the person's head before you do something like this. You want to visualize the end result and i continue to go around. I grab sections that are kind of what we call pie sections from the crown and i'm imagining. This is a short haircut. I didn't know that i was going to give her a full pixie and here i'm cutting corners. So remember i had really short pieces at the nape of the neck and now she's got longer pieces. So i want to blend the two, and so i'm cutting off any corners that are just kind of sticking out that don't need to be there to clean up the lines and again, i'm very sorry that this is pixelated. It was a time lapse on my phone, so i'm pulling all of the hair back kind of again rough cutting, and now i'm going in with my texture, shears again to take out a lot of bulk. I do this for almost every single client who asks for a short haircut because, as soon as the hair starts to grow back, this is the part that tends to grow back the fastest and the bulkiest. We have very thick hair in the back and around the ears, so i'm basically just taking off as much as i can. Sometimes i go right to the scalp. I do have a video on how i cut my own pixi, using these texture shears to take out all the bulk in the back. That'S usually what we really need for maintenance - and i want this haircut to last for maxine and that's why i'm doing that. So now i'm going in with my razor and i'm freehanding this she has a lot of hair at the nape and it's actually really fun for me to go in and kind of clean up any pieces that need to be cleaned up. I'M twisting the hair right here right behind the ear, because i want it to sit really nicely behind her ear. The way you cut the hair is how it's going to sit. So when i twist it, i know that she's going to be able to tuck it back now i'm free handing and softening out the outline, so i basically just cut into the hair. If someone has a very thin out hairline, then i don't do this, but because she has a lot of hair. I can afford to take off all of that. This is going to act as my foundation, my structure for the rest of the pixie and i'm basically refining it. Now, i'm making sure that it's all the same length now, i'm feeling out the haircut i'm liking the way it's sitting. I think it suits her head shape, so so well, i'm explaining to her that in the back it's going to be nice and short and then the top is going to sit on top. So, as you guys can see, the haircut is coming together. She can also pull it back in a ponytail because she is a mama, so that's very important, and now i'm sectioning one side because we're going to take one side shorter and then keep the other side longer. She was game for anything. Now i'm razoring at this side because i want texture for her hair. Her hair is very soft. It'S very fine there. She does have a lot of it, but the actual texture of the hair is very fine, so using a razor, i'm i'm not worried about it. All i think if her hair was compromised, i wouldn't do that so i'm going in and i'm blending uh those two layers together, so i'm kind of chopping into the hair and i'm twisting the hair away from her ear. Because, again, the way you cut the hair is the way the hair is going to sit. I want this side of her hair to kind of sit, tucked back so she's able to style it to the back i'm going around with the round of the head and i'm sectioning as i go. I don't really have a very strict sectioning guideline. I'M not a textbook hair cutter at all, i'm liking the way it sits, and now i'm just blending and creating layers. All of this razor work creates layers. It creates texture, it creates movement and that's what i want when i do a pixie. I want there to be movement, and i'm also keeping in mind that, because she had her hair highlighted that i'm cutting into the blonde that she just got done. So that's actually going to create even more dimension because uh the highlights, don't look so um. I guess stripey now i get in a new razor because my other one was getting dull and now i'm going to pull back the hair and i'm mapping out how i'm going to keep one side longer than the other. So i'm blending everything down, i'm creating layers. I want to keep weight right at her occipital bone. I like to keep the weight there, because i do a lot of dry cutting later. So i like to go more on the safe side, i'm noticing a really really beautiful wave with maxine i'm over directing all of the front piece that's supposed to be longer and i'm over directing it back so that it stays long. Now i'm going around the ear because she has so much hair there, most people - don't most people have very, very fine hair around the front. But i want these pieces to be very piecey. I want her to be able to throw in some pomade or a texture spray and still be able to twist it and get a really nice kind of pc texture there around. The ear is where we usually get all of our regrowth and it gets very annoying. So i want to keep hair there like. I don't want to shave it, but i also want it to keep it wispy. So now i'm rough drying just using a regular paddle brush. This is basically the moment of reveal. I want to see how the hair is sitting. I want to see the texture. I want to see how the blonde is looking now. This is refining i'm going in dry cutting. I do a lot a lot. A lot of dry cutting maxine still has a ton of hair, so i am going in and making sure that everything is well blended. I cut into the hair, so i sectioned the same way that i sectioned my wet cut and now i'm basically blending all of the hair from top to bottom right at that weight line that i created and i'm cutting into it, so that it creates a very Seamless transition and i'm lifting the hair now that i'm seeing how it's sitting i'm kind of getting a feeling also for the texture of maxine's hair, because i've actually never done her hair. This is the first time i do her hair. I'M doing a little bit of point cutting into the hair, because i know that her hair can take all of that texture. What i'm doing now is kind of like a scissor over comb technique, but i'm cutting into the hair rather than cutting with my scissors straight across and cutting horizontally, because i want texture there. I want to create movement for her. I'M doing a little bit of slight cutting too i'm just using all kinds of techniques. I am pulling the hair all the way over directing it all the way to the center to make sure that she's also going to be able to pull her hair back and still have a really nice haircut. So, if you're somebody who wants to slice their hair back, this is a technique that you have to that. Your hairdresser has to do to make sure that your hair is um. Even so, i do a little bit of slide cutting with my scissors. What this does is, basically it cuts into the blonde. It almost looks like she has highlights or sorry low lights in her hair, so that there's no chunks of blonde there um every haircut needs a specific hair color. So hair color goes into kind of the refining of the hair. The final image of the hair, the hair color, the head, shape everything. So i'm obsessed with refining i'm going in and doing a lot of dry cutting and a little bit with the razor. I use all kinds of techniques and i want to make sure that the darker part also blends in with the blonde, so she doesn't have like a huge massive. You know chunk of like a darker nape. Now i'm using my razor look watch this technique and i'm cutting into the bulk of her hair because she has so much hair. I can afford to do this, i'm cutting into the middle parts of hair, i'm not trying to take off length, i'm just creating texture, and this is a way to create layers that are not so that are very seamless. They just transition very easily they're, very feathery, and this is the fun part, because now i'm starting to see that the front of her hair is uh airy, it's light it's summertime, so she wants light hair. I don't want it to just sit like super weighted and um old school. It'S got, ta, look modern, it's gon na look chic, it's gon na look fun. I want her to be able to curl it, and so i do this all the way around. With my razor, as you can tell, i love using my eraser, this is very interesting. Sometimes, hair likes a certain tool and sometimes hair does not like a certain tool. I don't use my razor a whole lot with clients unless their hair actually likes it. I can tell when the hair is going to sit well with a razor, sometimes uh, hair hates razor. So it's not always there, but it's always in my toolbox in case. I do need it now. I'M free handing with the razor just cutting into the hair again to create a seamless transition of color and texture, and i'm loving the way that it's sitting a huge part of what i do is basically just feeling the hair. So i pull the hair back to see how it sits. Is there movement? Is it you know, and i'm asking her if she likes it and i love it, she loves it. I'M refining a little bit with my scissors um and now i'm bending it with my flat iron, i'm not trying to create curls. I just want to bend it so that the highlights are popping so that the shape is popping and because i'm going to need an instagram picture later on, and i am showing her that she can do this at home. This is basically just a bend. I go in with just right at the middle of the hair and then i keep the ends straight. You can obviously curl it, but just to keep it more modern and more beachy. I would definitely prefer a bend over a curl and i go all the way around the head shape. So now, if you notice right around the ear, the way that i curl the hair, it is naturally going to be tucked behind the ear because of the way that i cut it. So if you remember, i did twist that area, and so that allows for her to be able to talk that area back and now, i'm going in with a texture spray. This is wax plus from redken. This allows for a little bit of pieciness. It'S basically like a very light pomade. It allows for you to pinch the hair and create texture. So if your hair's feeling a little bit flat, it's really important to use a texture spray. It really helps bring out the wave in your hair if you're, using a good brand. So all of those internal layers that i created were are pushing the hair up. So i know that when i pinch the hair, it creates texture because short hair pushes long hair. So this is the finished result. You'Re able to you know, pinch the hair and have all of that volume. If i didn't go in and create all that texture and movement with my razor, i wouldn't have been able to just easily pinch the hair and create volume. It would have fallen super flat and not had any shape or texture. This is the finished result guys. Thank you so much for watching this video.
