Hello there welcome back to my channel today we are going to be doing another hair tutorial, but lest you think, it's going to be the same as last time where i start with dry hair. No, i am going to wet my hair in a moment, but i wanted to start off with my hair air dried and today it's a little extra crazy, but i wanted to show you the crown area of my hair because i have had so many of you Ask for help with how to add volume and to correct cowlicks, especially in this crown area. So i wanted to show you kind of where i am starting, because some of you don't think i have this issue. But let me just flip around and give you the view of what my crown area looks like. So you can see. I have a pretty deep cowlick right here and my hairstylist says this section of my hair is actually a different texture than the rest of my hair. It is a little bit finer in this section, which is not what we want, because i need that extra volume. So in today's video i am going to wet my hair and then i'm going to give you some tips all along the way, starting with product, how to blow dry, how to style it to add that extra volume and to help correct those stubborn cowlicks. If you're new here be sure you hit that subscribe button now, let's get started okay, so we're going to start with the towel drying step so believe it or not. You can help add a little extra volume in this area when it's when your hair is still wet. Just take your towel and you're going to want to rub in that area or if you have issues with volume kind of in the top section you can also. I mean gently, you know you don't want to pull your hair out and then go ahead and roughly comb through and now the most important product when trying to add lift to your hair is a root boosting product, and i am really sad to hear. I am hearing rumors that this is being discontinued, so stockpile it now. This is the catwalk root boost. I do have a couple of other root, boosting products that i am going to be testing out just in case, but for now this has been my go-to for years and years and years it works on short hair. It works on long hair. This is not a mousse per se, but it's also not just a wet spray, so it's kind of a hybrid in between. If i put a little bit on my hand, you'll see it. It has a little bit of like a mousse like look, but it quickly kind of melts basically on the skin. This is meant to be placed at the root of the hair, and so because we're primarily focusing on this section i'll show you this. But what you're going to do is lift the sections of the hair, where you want to add volume, and so for me, you can just see how my hair is laying. So i need this to really have a little extra volume so and it does not take a lot. Do not use a lot of this or your hair will get dirty quickly. So i put just two spritzes there and then i'm gon na go up above it and add a little bit there and then i like to add just a little bit forward. So i start kind of at the back point of where i need the volume to start and then come forward um. I also like to add a little extra volume here at the part, and this is also going to help the hair have a little bit of grit as we are blow drying it. So it does kind of stay styled or at least stays in the direction that we blow dry. It so i'll put a little bit there through the top again just anywhere that you want a little extra volume but you're going to concentrate the sprays towards the root of the hair, okay and work it in now. Normally i like to go in with moroccan argan oil or the stylish sheer remedy or the invisible hair oil, but today i am testing a new product out. It'S the malibu blonde kit. So because of that, i don't want to add anything else to help with the shine factor, because i want to see how shiny that product makes my hair, so i'm going to now go in with the blow dryer as i blow dry, i will get the initial Kind of dampness out of the hair and then when the hair is about three quarters of the way dry, i am going to be using a round brush like this. I have two different sizes um. I think for this demonstration, the little one's gon na be fine, but whatever size you have uh we're not gon na actually be curling the hair, but i'm gon na show you a technique to help redirect that cowlick that we have going on in the back. So let's go ahead now in with our blow dryer and get started. You do hmm now that i've finished blow drying. I'Ve taken my large mirror to look at the back of my hair and here's. What we've got so i'll show you so this side, where i have the most pronounced part of the cowlick that usually is wanting to lay flat. It is at least sticking up now we're not going to leave it like this. We'Re going to further enhance it, but you'll see on this side. We have a lot of really nice volume, so the hair on the cowlick side still needs some work, but we at least have some lift. Here. You can see that the hair is actually standing up. So that's a good thing all right. So now i am going to go in with my flat iron and just fine tune. Some of these front pieces a little bit you saw. I was kind of blow-drying, my hair this way, and then that way, and so it gives me sometimes a few hairs that look like they're, not sure where they're supposed to go, so i just like to take the flat iron and help them figure out what direction. I want them to go, so i'm just going to pull this through the front and then, as we get to this section, as i put the flat iron through, i am going to just curve down just a little bit and i'm going to pull it through this, Especially this right side of the back section and you can see - i am curling it kind of away from the direction that it wants to go so with my cowlick. It wants to curve to the left and i want it to come back to the right. So i'm going to kind of pull the hair over to the right just a little bit and then this side. It'S really sticking out nicely. But i want to kind of pull some of these sections down just a little bit and then through the top i'll. Just pull this through and you can see i'm not even using my left hand, i'm just using my right hand to just stick it in there and pull it right through the hair and straighten it out. We'Ve got some crazies right here, but that's all right. We'Ll take care of that all right. Now, it's really important to use some kind of pomade or wax. You know i find the enjoy dry wax to be the best out there, but i know some of you are not able to actually purchase this. You live in a different country or you just find this hard to work with. It does take a learning curve to figure out how to work with it. So if you are in either of those camps, my second choice would be the bed head. Manipulator mat. This is similar and yet different, but it still gives kind of a matte texture. It won't make your hair greasy. It does give really good hold it's not quite as good as enjoy dry wax, but i actually like the smell of this one better. So if you can't get enjoy dry wax, my second recommendation would be the bed head, manipulator mat, but for today's purposes i will be using the enjoy dry wax and again it's been in the hundreds here. So my wax is very nice and pliable still, so i put a good amount of that on my hand. Okay, so you can see how pliable my wax is. If yours isn't quite that pliable pull out your blow dryer and use it to make it softer. Now i'm going to work it between the hands and, first and foremost, the most important step is not to apply. This whole amount to one section of your hair, because you're going to get way too much. So what i like to do is just real, roughly just like, basically touch my whole hair and i'm shifting the hair around in different directions so that you can kind of coat the different sides of your hair. So it's not just the top getting the wax. It'S getting underneath the hair, as well as on the top all right, so now that we've got most of it kind of distributed. I still have a good amount of wax on my hands. I will move some of it to the tips of my fingers and now because we're really concentrating on this section, you can take that wax and any area that needs more volume. You just rub it in the scalp and again we're not rubbing a ton of wax into the scalp just what's remaining on our hands and we're also almost like ratting the hair, but without a comb. So we're just using our fingers to add all of that extra volume. I mean we're to get a little crazy and i'll tame it down, but i just want to show you what is possible all right, so i am continuing to just i mean: do you see how much volume we can add by just scrubbing it into the roots Of the hair, okay, now let's go ahead and we're going to fine-tune especially this front section, because i don't think i'm going for anything like real crazy today, i don't know we'll just see how the hair wants to go right, but here on this top section, i Am going to go for a very lifted, look and just show you how you can get the most out of this, and now what i'm doing? I sometimes do these things without telling you i just do them just automatically okay, so i am holding a section of hair and i'm taking my hands and rubbing right at the scalp. So it's almost like, if you were taking a comb and ratting it, but instead i'm just using the tips of my fingers to create volume at the roots and because we have root boost and that enjoy dry wax. It'S really kind of gripping the hair is gripping and staying kind of in that lifted, um direction, okay and then through here. I think we're pretty pretty good here. Okay, i'm gon na go ahead and spray the front part first and now, let's take out our mirror and and see what we're dealing with here. Okay, so in the back um any sections that i see have kind of like holes or anything, i am just going to manipulate the hair in that direction and then we'll set it in place with the hairspray okay. So i think we're pretty ready now to go in with some hairspray and then, like i said as i spray, i will just kind of pull the hair over in those certain sections. Okay, let me show you where we're at here, so any sections that you know, if you don't want it sticking straight out at this point, you should be able to you have enough product on the hair to just kind of gently tuck it and then just spray. It in place - and so i think that you will see - i did today - kind of halfway in between it's - not completely spiked, but it's also not completely flat, so that was kind of my intent. You could definitely do more spikiness, but today i kind of wanted to do something in between, because i know many of you don't like spikes back there and that's okay. So let's go ahead now and finish with a couple squirts here of spray. Okay, i just popped in some earrings. So now i'm going to give you a glimpse of the finished look here. So here is our crown area even from this side. Hopefully you can see just all of that added volume. I will pop on the screen. The picture of before and after of that crown area - and hopefully you can tell there - is quite a bit of difference there in the volume now, as you can see, product does play a huge role in helping to add volume, but also just the way that i Was blow drying and, yes, i did bring in a round brush, which i don't often do, but i didn't use it in that traditional sense where you actually have to curl the hair and hold it. The way that i did it today is something i've seen my hairstylist do, especially in the front section and it's using the denseness of the bristles to redirect the area, the crown area where you have those cowlicks. So if you have cowlicks in other sections of your hair, use a round brush or a very dense brush to comb, the opposite direction of that cowlick and then comb it back. So hopefully, that information and the other tips and tricks i shared along the way, will be useful to you. As always be sure you check the description box below this video. Not only do i have links and a list of all the products that i use today, but i also have additional videos linked. That might be helpful to you if you have short hair, if you're using enjoy dry wax for the first time or, if you're curious, to know how the malibu blondes recovery system worked for me. Thank you, as always so much for watching be sure you hit that thumbs up button on your way out and i'll see you next time. Bye,

Penny Nichols: I absolutely love all of your hair tutorials, but today was exactly what I needed! It’s a constant struggle to get volume in my cowlick/flat spot in the back of my crown area. Mine is almost exactly like yours, and has a mind of its own most days! I can’t wait to try drying my hair like you illustrated to manipulate the way the hair lays. I will also try rubbing my Enjoy Wax more deeply into the roots to add volume! I love your hair and keep getting mine cut a little shorter each time! Again, thank you for your tutorials!!

Libby Miller: I am soooo GLAD I finally got time to curl up and catch up!! I've been extra busy these past few weeks with helping move one of our daughters, helping with my grandson, and planning my Moms 97th birthday on September 10th!!! But I've been in a real FUNK about my hair and what and how to style it!! I really need to get in and get my hair highlighted, but just haven't had the time!! This was such a great watch, because it gave me some really great tips on how to get more volume, which is something I need badly!! Gonna catch up on any of your videos that I have missed....makes for a great night, all curled up!! Thanks again my friend! I just so enjoy everything you put on!

Linda Newland: Another awesome tutorial that once again almost persuades me to cut my chin length bob. Your ability to share products and styling are so well presented and done in such a fun way. My 5 grandchildren ages 6 to 12 just love watching Nama’s favorite YouTube channel and are quite mesmerized when I have you on. Thanks so much for sharing!

Connie Reno: Excellent and very helpful!! I style my hair the same way you do, and I also have a cow lick that goes the same direction as yours does, so this was super helpful to me!! Thank you beautiful lady and have a blessed day!! ❤️

Sheila: I have learned more from you in just a couple of tutorials than I've learned in 10 years with my stylists! Thank you!!

Julie Ligon: Thank you! Still working on getting the total look I'm going for. Your tips & tricks always help. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I willingly admit that is part of the reason I keep trying to improve the final look. On another look... I love your eye look today. Please let me/us know what products you used & do a possible tutorial at some point. Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!

Beverly Marchbanks: Love the haircut!! I've worn a similar haircut for most of my adult life and just love it!! Very flattering!! ❤

Chris B: This is the best tutorial I've seen. I have a pixie and very fine hair and it's difficult to get it to stand up and stay up. Rubbing it into the scalp makes total sense! Thanks for the fantastic tips!

Cookie Duncan: Just another great hair tutorial. Your haircut is simply to die for. I love it! Two great things you have going for your hair is a great hairstylist who is amazing and the your weave as this always adds a lot of volume to the hair. Simply stunning.

kit24sn: Thanks for the video. My cowlick is similar to where yours is. I have the added problem of it going in practically a circle up there. I wear my hair pretty short so I can get it spiked up. I have both the root boost and dry wax but haven't mastered either. This video has helped to know how to use those products.

Lori Baker: Thank you! I have not one, but two more cowlicks in the back of my hair. I have a very similar haircut as yours and finally decided just mousse and a round brush wasn't cutting it, so I bought the product my hairdresser uses to tame those darn cows! I was sick of playing with it and ended up with more of a "helmet head." I always get great haircuts, it's just me. Now that I've added the other product, I do more spiking and messy look and I love it!! I'm 63 and didn't feel like I should do the spike thing, but I'm getting compliments galore! Thanks for your help Sharalee!! Love your hair! BTW...I'm almost totally gray, but my hair is turning really silver around my face. I get asked, "who does your hair?" I say "who cuts it?" and they say, "No. Who does your weave?" Ha! Cracks me up every time! Do they really think I would pay money for that?!! Ha!! I just politely thank them for the compliment! :)

sjpendola: Looks beautiful as always. Thank you for the tips!!❤️

Carole LaForce: Thank you for your tutorials on Pixies. I enjoy all of them.I just recently had my hair cut in a pixie. Unfortunately, the stylist did not know how to work with cowlick. I now have many bald spots in the back. I’ll be trying all your tricks of the trade. Fortunately, hair does grow back.

Joan Misenheimer: I love it. I wore my hair like that until I went totally gray & didn’t have enough body to do it.

Mommy2juan JesuslovesME: Love your tutorials Sharalee❗ I was in the cow pen longer than thought. Because of YOU, I can get my hair into a similar style with less product, TY I have left side body hemiplegia (24 yrs.) on top of a muscle-eating disease 40+ yrs. (LGMD2A). No pity, God is still on His throne You glow with the light of a loving heart & that of Jesus✨God bless you always

Catherine Loffert: Thank you for all of your tutorials. They really help. I have a few cowlicks that I've learned to tame...for the most part. The big one is pretty close to where yours is. I'd love to try Catwalk root boost but I can't find it locally and I can't get it shipped here because I'm in Alaska. Do you have a suggestion for a non-aerosol root boost that I might try? Thank you.

Beverly Adamick: Sometimes we get stuck in old routines and this tutorial has great ideas on how to blow dry.

O. Nell Osmar: Absolutely love it. I’ve tried for 30 years to get my hair like yours, mines too curly to do the spikes. Absolutely love it

Linda Craig: I am a new subscriber. I am a retired hairdresser who still loves watching hair videos and learning new things. You gave great advice and instruction in this video.

Efrain Darlene Castro: Love your hair cut and highlights you explained that styling very good looks beautiful!! Have a blessed day and thanks for helping us trying to look better without spending money at salon.

Judi Dunham: Fortunately, you have a really good haircut. That’s number one! I’m still looking for someone who can cut my hair like that. Not much you can do with a bad haircut. Yours is adorable.

Jacqui Posener: Thanks for this as I also struggle with many cow licks. Do you do this ever day or what happens after you’ve slept on it. First time on your channel and lots of really good tips and help. Thank you!

Joan Gentile: I love your hair cut and the color!! It's absolutely beautiful!! xoxo

Tracy Sharp: I had to laugh because both of your favorite waxes are petroleum-based, and I'm wicked allergic to petroleum. I'm currently enjoying the Goodfellow's Fiber which has no parabens in it, and I also love Redken's Rewind 06 texturizing paste :)

Terri Evans: Great video! I bought the StansOut sponge you use. I LOVE it!! My foundation spreads so smoothly. Thank you!

earl martin: I have cut my hair just like yours love it and get so many compliments daily! I moved to Phoenix and have not found anyone able to cut it right yet. I’m so discouraged because if it’s cut right it’s the best hair cut in the world. Now if I just looked like you I would have it made. You are so beautiful I love watching your videos.

Darci Bogaard: I have replaced the Catwalk Root Boost with Ouai volume spray and I love it. Have to be careful to not use too much because a little goes a long way so the bottle lasts a long time.

Terri Laycock: Beautiful as always! I have my hair cut like yours but my hair is curly so I have to use a round brush when it starts growing out.

Carole Anderson: Super video, Sharalee!!! I think my cow lick is close to where yours is. If I got a perm I would have to remind them not to emphasize it. Say it ain't so about the Catwalk Root Boost!! I get it from Amazon because Walmart stopped carrying it. Guess I'll have to stock up or find the Bed Head Manipulator. I'll be trying these drying techniques and continue to practice with the Enjoy Dry Wax. Maybe I need to warm it up more. Thank you as always, my sweet friend. Take care and have a nice weekend!!!

Gayle Logsdon: This video was so helpful. We’re twins ha ha ha. I have a cowlick on the crown area just like yours Great tips. I will experiment tomorrow Love the root boost it’s wonderful always use Aussie instant freeze hairspray . Your hair looked so good. Love it. It fits your bubbly personality. When I first started watching your videos your hairstyle just hit me (I liked it). I copied your style. Really like the look. It’s a fun style to work with. Happy Labor Day weekend

Jane Fleet: Thanks so much for the tips! I have the same cow licks lol. I have some on each side of the bang area, but they are easy to deal with, probably because I'm looking straight at them.

Roll Tide Rita: I love your hair vids because our hair is cut similarly except my hair is salt & pepper. This really was helpful! Thanks

Diane Phillips: Perfect ! I have the horrible horrible cowlick just like yours too! Very helpful video! You’re the best ! Thanks

Jessica Smith: Very beautiful sweet friend! I just got my haircut yesterday. She got it a little short at the crown. So this video came at a perfect time. Your hair is always so cute. Thank you so much for sharing your videos.

Elaine Mullins: The more I use my Enjoy Dry Wax the more I like it. Thanks for such a informative tutorial.

kiki48crcr: I always love the way u do ur hair. You always do a great job!

Stacey Hardy M&S Cut Flower Farm: Hi girl I have a question, I have had my hair cut in a pixie for a few years now and I am wanting to let it grow out. Do you have any help with going through this stage of growing it back out? Thank you lovely lady for the help. I hope you have an amazing week.

Elizabeth Bigham: It makes me giggle to think I'm part of any Army of women with this haircut. Thank you for the info on the root boost. Just bought a bunch more! ❤

Ric Calendar: Beautiful as always sweet girl! One of your gifts is definitely teaching! Your French manicure is lovely. Love the earrings!! Getting ready to order two more Root Boosts...

Helen Hampson: A great tutorial again and I love the eye shadow colours. Could you do a video on how you created this look please?

Julia Helland: Yes, I have a very annoying crown colicky! Thanks for sharing ❣

Donna DeSisto: Oh yes I need those earrings. I notice that you don't really flat iron each strand for a long time. I'm guilty of going over each section too many times until I get it how I like it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but doing that does create more frizz and less smoothness. Do you ever use a heat protector? You're a wizard with that blow dryer. Thanks for addressing these cowlick issues. Nice to know I'm not alone!

Terri Riggle: Great technique! Love the tips! I have a big ole cowlick and have always been frustrated by how to style it!

Peg Born: so great...you're a great instructor. I actually brought your picture to my last haircut....didn't really turn out as stylish. I have super think hair and not a lot of it. I'm going to try again, I want a edgy style -- not an old lady short haircut. Will try these products , maybe it will help.

Miriam DeVries: You are so talented! Thank you for these tips! I am going to master Enjoy wax if it's the last thing I do!

Fay Aaberg: Beautiful as always, love the hair. What colors did you use today for your eye shadows ? Looks really nice.

Joan Gentile: I love your haircut!! I would like to get the same hair cut. But, how do I tell the hair stylist what kind of haircut I want?? My hair is already short. It's a little longer on the top, than it is on the bottom. The sides of my hair are short, too. I love short hair! It's much easier to take care of than long hair, since we live in Houston, Texas. It gets very hot and humid down here during the summer months. So, short hair is the way to go for me. Maybe, I can take a picture of your haircut with me to the hair stylist, so they know what kind of haircut I want. Thank you for sharing your videos with us!! I appreciate it!! xoxo

Candice Nelsen: Such a Great Public Speaker. Plus you solved my problem about a cowlick in the crown area I have several cowlicks and they are so stubborn. Your hair styles are very attractive. Keep bringing us the wonderful Tips & Tutorials. Thanks Again, Madre

Diana Woods: I've noticed they have changed the package of the catwalk. The store I buy it from sold out of the old package and replaced it with a new design on the can. I don't think they discontinue it altogether. Just love your hair. I don't have cowlicks, but your demo still helped in getting volume to me thin straight hair.

Judith Pearson: As usual, very great video. I have cowlicks much like yours. I also have almost the same haircut

Alicia Gillaspie: Beautiful! I always love watching you fix your hair. And I always have to confess being envious of your luscious thick hair! This is such a great style for you!

Mary Tippett: Hi Sharalee, your hair looks amazing I have the same cow lick at the back I have to really work at it to look good. I live in Australia and I have chatted with you before I couldn’t find any Enjoy dry wax here but, my lovely daughter who lives in Florida sent me some a week ago and I just love it and you only need a little bit but, I found it hard to get out but, I really love it for my hair so Thank You for sharing.

Sylvia Vandegrift: So good to know this thank you!

vickie Domingo: Really enjoy your tips & tricks. I have the same style as yours an there’s definitely a learning curve. How often do you get your hair cut?? As always I enjoy your video’s.

Sandra Cokes: Hi! I usually wear my hair in your style, and I have now grown it out to donate for cancer wigs. I hate long hair. Can not wait to cut it ! My hair grows fast. Thank God ! I think the Australian products have a great root lift product. I hate when they discontinue a great product !

Sandra Rawlinson: Just FYI, I bought the Enjoy Dry Wax on Amazon. I love it! Loved this informative video Sharalee!

Sydney Landreneau: Thank you so much ❤ Love this about hair styling! Love the products!

Jennifer Lee: Love the Root Boost and I will stock up. I use Aveda Control Paste because the Enjoy Dry wax was never soft enough for me to manipulate and I did use the blow dryer on it a few times, I simply got tired of the struggle. I have a lot of hair however, it is fine. I get close to almost the same effect as you show here with the Aveda product and it has no offensive smell. I love the hairspray and have been using it for almost a year now. It holds, but my hair is not sticky. Sharalee, I never tire of watching you style your hair, I learn something new each time. Thank you for sharing all your expertise with us!!

Margaret Vernon: Oh my gosh!! I finally found Cat Walk Root Boost and it’s the best root boost ever!! I need to go buy more!! I love your posts and all the helpful hints!! At 75 with natural curly (ugh) white hair I love to try new things! Thanks for sharing!!

Barbara Bryan: Love your hair!! I also have a cow lick same place as yours I am gonna try to get mine as spiked as yours!!!!

Lanette Rippeto: I love your videos. Your hair is exactly what I want.

Patty: Hey Sharalee I think you are right about the Cat Walk Root Boost. My usual supplier doesn't have it in store or online. I guess its back to experimenting.

Lori Dupuy: Thank you again for some of my normalcy! I'm getting my haircut like this when we re"vace" home!!!

Kelly Crawford: I always had my hair cut like yours and after watching your videos I got the nerve to cut mine off again and love it!

VICKI GOOD: Great, informative video. Thank you!!

Debbie Douglas: I love your hair and your hair style!! I have short spiky hair too. My hair is thin and sometimes hard to get the spikiness that I want. You’ve got beautiful hair and you’re a beautiful woman!

Linda Smith: So very well explained...brilliant!

Sharyl Carroll: Sharalee, did I miss the shine product you were trying today? Love your videos-great hair, and your make it all so easy and doable. Thank you!

Katherine Smith McKinnon: Love this look!

catmama54: You truly are as talented as any stylist I have seen and I know my Dad would say so too. I have quite a few cowlicks so thank you so much for this

Mayrene Powell: Love it ,looks great

Mary Davidson: I so wish there was a way to style an undercut pixie when you have silver hair. Every time I get to where I think it will work the front part gets discolored due to the flat iron and you really need that part to be done. Sharalee, have you any suggestions?

Tracy Chester: Absolutely love this look on u !! I could go on n on . I am 52. My picture here is of me in my early 40's and now I have thin and straight hair. Will my hair be able to look like yours if I was to get it cut like this? Thanks for posting your video. I am a new fan of yours now. Youre beautiful.

Julie Williams: Sharalee, I have watched your videos for a couple of years and just love your haircut! I recently got my hair cut sorry but was not happy with the cut. I know you're stylist is due to have a baby soon. Is there any way she could send me a description of how she cuts your hair so I can discuss it with my stylist at my appointment this Wed, the 20th? I have silver gray hair which I grew out during Covid, slight wave, fine hair. Considering Enjoy dry wax, Catwalk root boost to see if that will hold my hair better. I can't use a flat iron, my hair just goes flat after a few hours. Any help or advice from you and your stylist would be helpful. Thank you for taking the time to read this! Julie in New Mexico.
