Hi everyone. Thank you for all your kind reactions to my last video. I must admit I was a little nervous about it, because it was my first narrated video ever so I'm glad you liked it and that's why I decided to make another one, so I hope you're going to like this one as well. Today, I'm drawing an elegant, low ponytail, I'm using graphite, pencils, cotton, swabs and pencil eraser. As usual, I start with a light sketch of the basic shape of the ponytail using F pencil. The Harpe answer allows you to create light lines which can be easily erased. It'S important to think of the hair as 3d form. Sometimes it's better to draw the head first and then sketch the outline of the hair. To be sure, you will create the right volume of the hair when I'm satisfied with the basic sketch. I continue with the basic shading to create the background for the whole shading, I'm using the F pencil again, but you can also use HB or b pencils, which are a little softer, but they still indicate very similar results. You four little darker parts, the mid-tones or half tones, usually using software to be pencil. As you can see, I'm using the contour shading technique to follow the contour of the form. I try to draw the lines with the flow of the hair, so I'm drawing the pencil strokes from the top to the bottom of the hair. Now I'm using three B pencil to create a little darker value, I'm also using the contour shading technique for blending. I use a simple cotton swab. It is really useful tool when blending larger parts, but as a great alternative. If you can use a blending stump or soft tissue, but try to avoid using your fingers, because the oil in your skin could make the blended are hard to erase or could simply damage the drawing. I also try not to put so much pressure on the pencil. I rather create the values in more soft layers. It helps to create smoother and more realistic result, and also, if you push the pencil against the paper too hard, it could cause the shiny effect of the graphite which most of the people try to avoid. So I rather draw with a little amount of pressure. Oh, it is important to pay attention to where the light source coming from and where the lights and shadows are placed to create the illusion of form of the hair as a complex subject, the hair is wrapped around the head, so I try to create the illusion Of roundness - and I do so by creating lights and shadows also, if you look at the tail, they're lighter and darker parts which create the ocean of wave and little curls at the bottom dry. Hair takes a lot of patience. So if you want to achieve realistic result, you must pay attention to many lines. Highlights tiny details, tiny shadows, do not rush just take your time and enjoy the process and do not give up just because it takes more time than you expect it. The darkest parts are drawn with the 4b pencil. If you think you need to go darker. Just use software pencils, like 6 B, 7 B 8 be the software pencil. You use the darker values you would achieve in the end. I mostly add some loose hair to make the hair look more realistic and natural, and to do so I use sharp, F, pencil or mechanical pencil because I want to lose hair look light and thin. The texture of the hair is created by the contour shading, but if I want to add more texture, I use the sharp F, pencil or HB pencil and add texture I need to achieve. I tried to leave the lightest parts of the hair light during the whole. Drawing these parts should picture the light reflection and, if I want to add more extra highlights, especially some extra loose hair, I use a sharpened pencil eraser. I try to keep the tip of the eraser sharpened to create really tiny highlighted parts. So thank you for watching this video. I hope it was helpful for you if you liked it.
