Cutting My Own Hair (Ponytail Method )

My hair dry & styled is in the link below.

This is how I cut my own hair. I'm not a professional. I have naturally frizzy/wavy hair, so it's easier to brush and cut when its wet. This is just what works for me. :)

Thanks for watching guys! ♡

Hey guys, it's Jessica and I'm gon na show you guys how I cut my hair um, it's pretty simple: um scissors, a hairbrush and a hair tie or scrunchie, and I'm also gon na use some detangler, because my hair is knotted and I'm sick and tired of All the dryness, because I shed like a Wookiee I'm like Chewbacca, and we need to fix that so I'm gon na put this towel in my sink to catch the hair. That way, my wahkeena -- scent clog up the drain, and the first thing I'm gon na do is brush my hair forward um. This is not really a tutorial, it's pretty much, just how I do it. I know other girls do it like this. I'Ve seen some videos online, but this is what works for me, my hair's, not even that long. I just get so tangled. It'S mostly because it's all dry I've had my hair. Like four colors this year I had it blonde and then pink and then blue and then black don't for colors, and then this is what I'm left with and my hair is dry and very thirsty. Extremely thirsty and yeah so took super forever. Saamana just put the scrunchie up here and then tight, so it doesn't go to where okay. So there's that I don't know it looks weird, but it works and I'm gon na take another one and tie it down here and it's not going around. My hair super thick okay cool and I'm gon na cut below this hair tie thingy so take it and and there it is and put that there and then I'm just gon na like rough cut it. So it's not like all like super straight across and I don't know it doesn't come out perfect, but it comes out good enough for me. So there we go hair everywhere seriously, I'm like a wookie mang, looky-looky-looky alrighty. So that is it see, there's like layers and it's cool and that's it super simple and there's layers there like rough choppy layers, but I like them so thanks for joining me guys give this a thumbs up if you liked it. If not, it's all good have a nice week, guys, like

Mathew Spear: As a guy with long hair I tend to not trust people cutting my hair and end up doing it myself. This video has just made it so much easier. Thank you!

Madhuri: finally chopped my hair after 3 years!! i watched like hundred videos but your's felt genuinely real results! this is my first ever comment on YouTube and that's cz i loooved my haircut and I can't thank you enough for making it look so simple and easy. XO

Lunadare: You had me at Wookie I've been cutting my hair this way the last few months. I like mine kind of piecey and this does the trick.

Lori Esteves: I just used this method on my daughter's hair and it came out beautifully. Thanks for the tip.

LauraBidingCitizen: Hey Jessica, I’ve been binge watching your videos lately (I find your voice so calming & soothing, & of course I love your content too!) I just thought I’d comment on this vid as.. girllll I know the struggle with very thick, wavy hair. Honestly, someone suggested it below, but the best advice ever is to comb your hair with a wide tooth comb (when wet is fine!) I have a hairdresser that visits me at home (here in the UK it’s a million times more affordable, & I’m also disabled with chronic health problems.. at least I’m in the comfort of my own home!) & my hairdresser loves my hair (I have a very big love / hate relationship with it lol). The condition of my hair improved dramatically within months after seeing her & we were trying to figure out why? Turns out I’d been combing my hair instead of brushing it when wet, & letting it air dry (after thoroughly towel drying it). She hadn’t told me to do it, but my brush had seen better days so I decided to use my comb, turns out although it’s a pain in the arse to remove the hair a few times during combing process (also a fellow shedder, haha! I call myself a yeti ) my split ends have almost diminished as I’m not snagging my hair with a brush or damaging it with heat (still blow dry sometimes if I’m going out, but if I’m at home.. eh, don’t care, dries even quicker after a good towel dry!) I also recently started reverse washing. Conditioning first, leaving in, combing through, washing out & then shampooing. I have naturally oily roots with dry frizzy ends.. lawd it’s helped a lot! I don’t do it every wash, maybe every other, & I leave a 3-4 day gap between hair washes. It’s really helped a lot! Just thought I’d pass some wisdom on in case it might help Hun! You have such beautiful hair, I’m envious! And you’re gorggggeous! Much love to you & Ariel, & thank you for all the lovely videos. I really appreciate them xxx

Sam Savage: Love this.... I have always waited to get my hairdresser to trim my hair. Look how easy this is. I am going to cut my own hair from now on and save a fortune xx Thanks for your video

kj robbi: Yes! In the 90s I once paid $45 for an upscale salon stylist to do exactly that! Been doing it ever since. And you can change it to a lob just by positioning the ponytail out and up from the crown. Voila!.. long layers but longer in front.

JoGiles77: Thank you! A true to life girl with no filters/editing! I'm guessing for longer layers in front I'd tie my hair further back. You're an angel

RM Smith: I have very wavy hair and I tried this today for the first time. It turned out great and with the layers, my hair is a lot curlier. I am pleased.

amajana: Cut off 10 inches of my hair this way and it doesn’t look bad at all. Desperate Covid-19 times call for desperate measures!

n8iv hunnie 87: I never cut my own hair , but tonight is the night lol going to try it , love the way you did it , looked pretty easy lol

J. Jackson: Simple and easy! Thanks for sharing.

Lucia Tat: I love your tutorial! Simplest of all! And I like how your hair turned out..I am going to try this. I also like the choppy look :)

Daniela Daisy: Thank you for the tips! I really appreciate what you're doing! Thank you for the video!

The Pochade: Just a suggestion.... if you stop brushing your hair when it's wet and instead use a wide tooth comb, you'll greatly improve the condition of your hair

Angeline Martinez: Cool, really cute! Thanks for sharing Jessica. I'm going to try it.

Amy P: Don't feel bad. I shed terribly too. I feel like a sheep dog sometimes! LOL! Now with the COVID going on, my salon is closed as far as I know. So I need to know how to do it when I'm home. I've seen similar videos and this technique seems to be the best one and the easiest. Thank you for sharing with us!

Gale Force: Omg, I would be so nervous to cut my own hair but you did a great job! Maybe I'll try it now!

Sun Kissed Krissy: Nice!!! Been cutting my hair this way for 10+ yrs. simple and saves $.

Garay: I'm a dude but Because of Lockdown I have a ponytail and now I'm here bruh

Sara Le: I do the same thing. My hair is the same length but really straight and thick. And it comes out good too. In case anyone watching this with straight hair is wondering.

Poppy Wijaya: is there anyone ever tell you about your relaxing voice? i love it.

Kitty Metal: You did a great job! I like the idea of using the 2nd hair band. The layers look good. P.S. I just subscribed - I love Dollar Tree/Dollar Store hauls! ☺

Kristen Fox: I cut my hair the exact same way lol it does work been doing it for years.

NanaTrain: In the 70's, we high schoolers used this method to create "the shag." The only difference was the ponytail tie was at the crown of our head, thus making the top layers mullet-like short... lol!

RaelenaThrouthehaze: I pretty much use the same method except I don't know why I never thought of using a second rubber band (that will definitely make it easier for me). Thanks for sharing!

Linda Neuhaus: Love your hair super pretty. I have hair down to my waist and was looking for videos of how to cut my own hair. I cut it 3 months ago but parted my hair and fastened it under my chin. Might try it your way instead. Thanks.

Shawn Muffin._.: Hi! I would recommend brushing ur hair from the bottom to the top slowly. It helps because u are not ripping your hair but slowly untangling it! It might help with ur shredding :)) loved the video btw! U are so cute and chill, hahha! ☺️

Subhra Subhadarsini: This is super easy and simple

Kirsty Ellis: I cut my hair using this method and I must admit it's done a fab job

ASHLEY EUGENIO: This is exactly how I want my hair thank you

Lori: Awesomeness! It looks beautiful! Will you come and cut mine? lol. I want to try this but I'm disabled so I would probably screw it up. I hate going to stylists because every time they never listen to me and hack it off so I stopped going. I want mine to look like yours. Those layers look amazing. And I LOVE this color. You go girl! PLEASE come and cut mine! :)

dreas mom: THANK YOU. I've tried cutting my hair using ponytail with some success. What I didn't like about it was that straight bottom look plus I didn't try the double hair tie like you did thank you for pointing out the rough cut.

abrs100: Use a good conditioner in the shower. I wash my hair then condition & use a big clip to twist it up. Wash me. Then undo the clip & rinse the conitioner out. I also have combed it out under the running water. Ps. It's a 10 has a fab line. Pps. Start brushing from the ends up toward the scalp. Horse hair & heavy long shedding hair have taught me alot!

Rolling BnB: Do an oil treatment on your hair if it is dry and thirsty. Use argan oil or even olive oil. Put it on at night before bed, cover your pillowcase with a towel and wash in the morning. Really helps the dryness. Make sure you get healthy oils in your diet as well.

Poker Junky: i just did mine couple hours ago this way,and i love it feels so much better lighter.

Katara Marie: okay You Just Gave Me Hella Confidence Thanks Chick Im Going For It !!!! :-)

Jan From NYC Saves Money!: Excellent video! Looks great!

J 99999999999999: I used to do this. The only advice that could help for your hair is using proper scissers. They sell hairdresser-like scissers at my dollar store. It diminishes split ends compared to regular scissers.

dovergirl19789: cool! I've never seen it done like this!

Red: I did this the last time I didn’t do my ponytail that high.... I’m going to try it! I really need to cut my hair but I’m just so lazy to go to a salon! (Lazy and broke) ... the good thing about my hair is that I have it wavy/curly so if I do it a bit wrong nobody will notice hehe

jen luvv96: Simple and it came out cute

Suzy Halilovic: Thank you so much .....your hair looks great ...I will try this method...god bless you sweetie ...

Emily Everett: Girl you are so cute you should be way more confident I think that's just you so I like it but if you're not confident you have every reason to be love u thanks for the video

Kimberly Vincent: Awesome. Always afraid to cut my own hair.

TheSarahAdrianne: Try using a brush from the company Wet Brush. It goes through tangled hair really easy

Jessica Claire: I love how chilled back you are

Karin Bingham: Just tried it. Worked great for me. I hate going to the salon.

Julie Kimmett: I bought a wet brush . Works wonderful .

thenebbishroute: It looks like you need the Curly Girl Method. You have naturally pretty wavy hair even when wet. It will help with the dryness and the tangles.

muskndusk: Yours is one of the first unicorn ponytail cuts which leaves weight on the ends. Would have loved to see it dry.

Terri Harman: I did try it and it worked! Thanks!

i do believe your galaxy: this is great i want to try now lol. but also anyone who is going to cut their hair, mAKE SURE TO USE SCISSORS FOR HAIR. DO NOT USE KITCHEN SCISSORS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avitia300: do you have a video of how it looks when it's dry and combed? would like to see it. :) thanks for the video :)

muskndusk: Your hair looks like it might have lots of wave, try putting on leave in curly conditioner and scrunching instead a brushing. Use a wide tooth comb to detangle.

Kayleigh Householder: Your so positive I love it!

Lori Badgero: Treat your dryness with coconut oil every now and then. I apply mine a few hours before I shower, then wash it out and condition as usual.

Shala Imtiaz: Thank you my dear I need to cut my own hair due to this lockdown in my country India ur video is simple and easy and safe to do and will definitely try ❤️ tq. Be safe

Amour Kayla: thanks Jessica I like the way you cut your hair quick question can you do a tutorial on how to get thick hair growing because I have thick hair and want to make it grow

monica: Been there sister, black to blonde was NOT a good idea but you know what they say "you only live once" so I own it just like you and take it with a little bit a humor

Terri Harman: Going to try! Thanks!

Annalee: omg she reminds me so much of my aunt she acts just like that and the way she talks and the things she says are just like my aunt

Lisa Borsella: Thank you for the video,I too use this method

Coach Barb: Best non tutorial, thank you!

alaa abdalkareem: Nice hair cut ✂️

Isabella Hogan: My hair is the SAME way. Put a little drop of conditioner in you hair to leave in then brush your hair from the ends and work your way up. Saves a lot of energy.

Katie Finley: bomb. great, simple technique

Melissa Freeman: I loved this!!

Queen Randa: I could already tell your hair was really thick by the sound of you brushing your hair. BUT LOVEEEE THE SHORT HAIR GIRL.

Eliza Brooks: Awesome video! Quick question what sort of Scissors do you use? ☺️

Sbella Lopez: Great tips

Lesley Johnson #momlife: wish i had thick hair like that

Dj Airfire: great i like it im gonna do these at home so i dont need to go to salon

Susan Ripley: Thanks Im going to try this as my hair dresser cant come round to do it due to coronavirus

Brooke Clover: If you want to cut a good amount off like three inches do you just pull the hair tie more up? Thanks

Veronica Ruiz: great Job you were amazing thanks for the tips. I'm going to try itt cus I need ti team it also. .Thanks

Helen Stanning: Fun video, but would have liked to see your hair dried too. ❤️

Angie Brooke: Fabulous!!!

Ms Precious: Thick and frizzy so always layer short, takes away tangles, dryness and thickness, trust me oh stop colouring!

ellen livingston: Try conditioner, so easy to comb or brush...try it

Nessa Eddy: Omg I was like, "is that my sister Jessica" you look just like my little sister in the thumbnail I look down at the name, and mind you her name is Jessica as well lol I had to do a double take

Eliza Brooks: Awesome video! Quick question what sort of Scissors do you use? ☺️

Denisse Rangel: OMG please be gentle with your wet hair, u r gonna damage more and... seriously, dont do that. Use another kind of brush or wait till dry.

Mayah Strohkirch: tbh your voice is rly soothing

Donnet Cordice: Gonna try it...the brush is harsh on your hair. Use a wide teeth comb. Cantu product leave in conditioner.

thenebbishroute: I gave you a thumbs up just because I like your attitude!

Kayden Caldwell: So when I was in kindergarten I cut my hair and my mom took me to the cutters to fix it they made it straight and then realized I had lice so then they had to shave my head not joking shave it
