Hey guys, it's can putz a cosplay shear in this video. I'M gon na show you guys how to make gravity defying ponytails. If you guys want more tips and tricks for weak styling. Please check out our new wig styling for cosplay book, which goes over the very basics of wig styling, all the way up to more complex and crazy, wigs. So, to make my ponytail wig, I'm gon na be using two long red wigs, which I got from my local wig store. I'M gon na be using one and cutting it short as my base week and then I'll be using the other one to take out the widths and create my ponytail. If you like, you can also use ponytail clips instead to remove the lifts from the wig to use for the ponytail. I'M gon na be taking a pair of scissors and carefully cutting and pulling out the strips of hair one by one. Until I get to the very top of the wig as you pull them out to keep them from tangling, just gently give them a brush and then set them aside. Once you've got all your hair pieces cut out, you can now start to construct the frame and the base of the ponytail. For this next section. We'Re gon na need some insulation foam board, a pin, a hairbrush, some worbla scraps, a nail or a screw some hot glue and, of course, the hair itself to cover the base for the frame that sits inside the wig and keeps the ponytail upright we'll be using. The worbla scraps and the male or the screw worbla is a very easy material to work with. It can be heated up with a heat gun and molded into shape and then, when it cools down, it's very strong, which is why I like to build frames with it. Using a heat gun. We'Re gon na warm up the worbla until it's nice and pliable, and then start to form it and shape it into two strips. The other great thing about worbla is that when it's warm, it sticks to itself really well so to make the shape. That'S gon na go inside of our wick we're gon na take those two worbla strips heat them up and press them together in an X shape. Now we're gon na take some more worbla scraps heat them up until they're soft and take our nail and start to mold and shape that bit of worbla around the bottom of the nail. Just be careful that you don't burn your fingers, because worbla can get very hot, so you may need some glue to work with it once the worbla is completely formed around the base of the nail. You can now heat up the very bottom of it heat up. Your X again with the heat gun and then press those pieces together so you'll, be left with this strange X shaped piece of worbla with a long nail sticking out the top. This frame is lying flat on the table right now, but our heads aren't flat. So we need to take this and heat it up until it's nice and pliable and then form it over the back of a wig head so that it fits the shape of our own heads. Let this cool down and harden completely and then you've got a nice frame to put inside your wig and support your ponytail. Now that my frame is finished, I have to make the base of the ponytail, which is going to give it a lot of its shape. So, to do this, I'm taking my insulation foam board and then, with my pin, I'm tracing out two hot air balloon shapes. Remember the nail sticking out of our frame. It'S got to go inside this hot air balloon shape. So, to help with that process, I'm cutting out a small channel on each shape. To do this, I'm just using my craft knife, I'm cutting at 45 degrees in one direction and then coming back at a 45 degree angle in the other direction, and then I can pop out the piece in the middle. I'M then gon na use that same life to cut out both of the shapes completely. You don't have to worry about this being super neat and tidy right now, because we're gon na come back and fix that up later, once the shapes have been cut out. I can then take my hot glue and put a little bit on each side and press the two halves together. At this point, the shape doesn't quite look like a ponytail. It looks like a big block of foam, so I'm gon na use my craft knife now to carve away at it and try and make it into a more ponytail shape where it tapers in at the bottom just slowly and carefully continue to cut away at the Shape until you're happy with how it looks, it's always easy to take off more, but putting back foam and putting back mass can be a little bit difficult if you've taken off too much once you're happy with how the shape looks, we can now start to add Some hair onto it with hot glue so to start covering this foam shape with hair, I'm gon na take my hot glue and one of my widths and at the very top in the center of the foam shape. I'M gon na start to press the hair into the hot glue pieces. Just be careful that you don't burn your fingers, I'm then going to take more widths and start to build and circle around that center piece that I glued down. This is quite a time-consuming process, but it's worth it in the end. Just continue to take your hair and wrap it and circle it around the foam shape until you get all the way to the end, to help cover up that last bit of white foam, I'm taking some red bias tape and some hot glue and at the base Of the ponytail just gon na glue it all the way around we've got our frame built and we've got our ponytail built. So now we need to put the frame inside the wig to do this. You'Re gon na take your base wig and find where you want. The ponytail to come out of the back of the week then push apart the widths and, with a pair of scissors, just snip a small hole in the mesh of the week. I then took the frame that I made from worbla and put it up under the wig and push the nail through the hole that I cut in the mesh. You can then adjust the wig to sit normally again and you should see your little nail or screw poking out the back of your wig. I then took some hot glue and squeezed it into the hole that I made on my foam shape, and then I pushed it over the nail and onto my wig make sure you let the glue cool down completely and set in place before you try and put The wig on to see what it looks like so the base construction of the wig is done, but we're not quite finished yet a ponytail. This thick can look a bit bulky and also be very heavy, so to help with the weight and to make it look a little bit nicer. We'Re gon na be using some thinning scissors and cutting into the ponytail thinning scissors, are a fantastic tool for styling and are a super easy way to fix. Really bulky thick wigs on my ponytail, I'm just taking a strand of hair and then taking my scissors and cutting from the top working my way down, so that the top is thicker and the bottom is much thinner once again. Just be careful that you don't cut off too much too quickly, work slowly and carefully and don't go too nuts once you've finished, cutting with the thinning scissors just take a brush and brush out the excess hair. While I like the ends of my ponytail to be nice and thin and pointed I, like the tops of my ponytail to be very volumous and poofy, so once we finished thinning the ends of the wake, we're gon na go back up to the top and tease It and give it extra bulk to start I'm sectioning off some of my hair. All the way on the outside of the wake we're gon na use this to cover the teased bits. Then I'm taking the inside portions of the wig and with a comb, I'm brushing them inwards towards the wig and back combing them until they're, nice and fluffy and teased, and this looks like a big mess. But it's a great way to get a lot of volume and body and we're gon na make. This look really neat a bit later, so take a section and tease and comb and then once you're happy with how full it is. You take another section and tease and comb and work your way up the base of the ponytail. At this point, you should be left with a really big rat's nest, looking ponytail at the top with layers on the outside that we're gon na use. Now, to make this look really sleek and neat to finish up this ponytail you're gon na take those outside layers and carefully start to comb them over the teased parts hiding and concealing them. If the hair doesn't want to stay in the right place, you can just spray it with a little bit of hairspray and then comb it into place and, as you can see, all the teased bits are now completely hidden and the ponytail looks nice and smooth and Sleek again, so how do I get this wig on my head now? This wig really isn't very different from any other wig you just pull it over and it'll sit in place perfectly. The frame inside the wig that holds the ponytail up will be pulled against your head by the actual wig cap, and all you need is maybe one or two bobby pins or a wig clip sewn onto the inside of the wig. Keep it in place all day. If your wig is very very heavy, because it's very long and thick, you can also get a wig grip which you can put around your wig cap and it'll help keep the wig in place. And now I have a super thick super big ponytail. Wake straight out of any anime. Thank you guys so much for watching as usual. Rachel Zarko: Very helpful!!! Thank you.

mermeag: I've been waiting for a cosplay to use this technique on and I've finally got one! Only problem is the hairstyle is a side pony. Would the worbla base still work here? I'm afraid it would be unbalanced and unable to stay in place.

Maura00: Instead of worbla can you use Eva for the frame? And what happens once the nail has worn a hole too big for the wig to be snug?

xxxAnaxxx: I think im gonna use this for my talon widowmaker cosplay...Thank you for this totorial!!

Jocelyne cupcake: That's so cool! ^u^ I can't remember what vocaloid that wig reminds me of but I think her name is Namine Ritsu.

Savon: Great tutorial! I'll have to use this method for my Undyne costume - only difference is that I'll be attaching the frame to a bald cap so I can be bald!

BabyOrgans: Can you do a video on how to style ahoge? The one in this video looks really cute!

Milo Senpai: I might try this for my chisa yukizome cosplay I’m planning but I don’t think I’m experienced enough to try something like that

dovedrips: Im using this for my Roadhog cosplay to make his ponytail but I have a question! If I put no hot glue so that the wig is detachable would it still stay on? I would want the ponytail to be detachable so its easier for packaging, but now im confused.

PixelHachi: Hi! Awesome tutorial! I wonder though, do you have tips for spiky ponytails like K/DA Akali's?

OneWeek Rain: Cut vertically with thinning shears to avoid shelves

rawryTHEaguacate: I have a few questions. How long are the wigs themselves? Also, I'm kinda broke and don't own any worbla, any recommendations on an alternative?

Xiomara Dattner: how thick was the insulation foam that you used?

R1L3Y73: Can anyone speak to how this method holds up and wear as opposed to her newer tutorial (with the big blue hair) where she uses pvc pipe as opposed to a screw/nail? I wanna follow this tutorial because it seems more user friendly but I was just curious if anyone had experience with this one. Thanks! :)
