Hi guys, chad, here today i am wearing our long braided ponytail. For a reason. Um. This wig has been very popular. It'S one of our best sellers um. It'S been on. Rupaul'S drag race, it's been on hundreds of queens all around the country and the world, and today i'm going to be showing you how to do it yourself. That'S right! We'Re doing a wig tutorial transformation on our long braided ponytail. Let'S get into it all right. Let'S get started so today we are going to be doing the long, braided ponytail one of my best selling products and i'm going to show you the step-by-step process of how i achieve this style. So, first off you're going to need a wig block, handy-dandy wig block! Don'T judge mine, it's a bit old! That'S because i work a lot. Okay, so you're going to need the wig block you're going to need a wig so purchase a wig 1-800 wig shakeout! You can go on amazon. You can go to a lot of different places. Um but i chose a 613 style that is pretty long in length, so get your wig, then you're going to need um a brush. I use the spornette big wonder and then i use this revlon wire wig brush very good brushes you're, also going to need a three inch dress, pins, which i use to pin the hair like pin in the canvas block you're going to need a clip for the Hair when we're holding up the style you're going to need zip ties. Yes, i said zip ties um. I don't know how you do it. I don't know how joe down the corner does it, but i do it. Wizard ties so you're going to need some zip ties, you're going to need some rubber bands for the ends you're going to need got to be glued hairspray. I purchased from this from walmart.com you're going to need um pump it up gold. I forgot the name for a second pump: it up gold. I purchased this at sallys.com and you're also going to need um matching braiding hair to the style of wig. You got so i purchased my braiding hair from a local beauty shop. I'M sure you could find some in your area as far as hard tools you're going to need a wig stand. Obviously you're going to need a tea kettle to pour hot water. I'Ll explain about this in the end of the video and you're also going to need a blow dryer, of course. So with all that being said, let's get started all right so to get us started, i have a blocked this wig um, i'm not a professional. I'M blocking wigs, i'm not a professional at doing much, but i do make some bombshell so don't judge me, but i have pinned the hairline down. I have also pinned the sides of the wig down right here on each side. Boom boom boom boom and i've also pinned the back of the wig. I stretched the cap all the way to the base of the block and pinned it in there as well, and you will see why in just a moment so now that that is done. I want you to turn the wig upside down, get that wire brush and brush it out upside down. This is very important, so you're gon na brush brush brush we're gon na get all that hair to the right direction that we want brush brush, brush brush brush brush brush brush brush and now once that is all brushed out, i'm going to show you how to Rig it so we can braid it up the back alrighty so now that we haven't brushed it all down. I want to show you how to rig this wig, so we can braid it easily up the back. So i have put these zip ties doubled up and they create like channels for the pins to stick into now. I have before i was in my studio. I had used the back of a chair. I have used um, someone has held the wig for me. While i do this there's so many different ways, you can do it. This is just my way of rigging it, so i can get the gravity to work in my favor. So without further ado, i'm gon na hook this up and we'll get started alrighty. So we have the wig all brushed out in the same direction. That'S really going to help us when we're trying to braid the back of this hair. So what i'm going to do is i'm going to take the first section and we're going to go weft by weft or sometimes we might skip two, but generally, it's gon na be about weft by weft, going all the way down. So we're gon na pull that out we're gon na split that into three like so and then we're going to start braiding now each level you're going to pull in hair from each side like so i'm going to go to the next level. Pull in here we're going to go to the next level pull in here now. What you're not going to do is you're not going to worry about how skimpy this looks, but because we stretched this cap. So, what's gon na happen is when this cap is not stretched anymore, everything's gon na close on itself, and it's gon na look much much nicer. So please don't get scared of this. It'S just a part of the process. So as we get to the lower portion of this wig, you really want to make sure you're not grabbing any of this hair, because this hair is going to be swiped over to cover the top of the wefting. So you really want to push that back and really grab here in the side of the wig, not to the front as we get to the lower half of the section. The top of the head is about right here, so we're going to be taking less and less hair as we get to the end portion, which will be about right here. So after we get to the top of that head right here, we're going to be stopping and we're going to braid this down just a little bit so that it won't unravel and we'll be able to put the clip right on it. So we're going to take our handy, dandy, clip and we're going to hold it like so so. This next step is where the zip ties come in. So we clipped this because we don't want this coming loose at all the moment it comes loose. It loses the integrity of the support for the ponytail. So what we're going to do is we're going to take one of our zip ties and we're going to link this braid to the wig cap itself. So we're going to go under we're going to catch some of that cap and we're going to lock it like. So you can really get in here and find the center of the wig, because two parts of that seam they meet and there's a stitch right there. So if you really want to be careful and make sure it's at the top and centered for your wig, you can look in that hairline and you'll find the seam of the wig that to follow, and here it is it's right here. I love that. So what i do is i lock it in like so pull it out. You'Re gon na get like half an inch of that cap and really get that support. So once that's in there. This is this. Is this isn't going anywhere? It'S semi-permanent is what i like to call it so we're going to lay that braid back down, make sure not to get any other hair caught, we're going to lay that braid back down and we're going to tie it down very very tightly. So once you have secured that very tightly, i actually use a pair of pliers to really get in there and pull it um you're going to want to cut off that tail and boom. It'S secure no need for this anymore. It'S it's not going anywhere love. It is really really secure period, love that okay, so the next step in this process is to force all of the hair back, get it brushed out again and we'll move on to braiding the front part of the hair. So to get us started, i have sectioned off this piece of hair right here. It is all brushed out and we have two small strips of braiding hair to braid this longer, so we can wrap it around the base. So i'm going to start us off with starting the grade section up here and then we'll go into time lapse and you can follow along so now we're at the base of the hair i'm going to be adding in these strips of hair. So i'm going to take this piece right in the middle i'm going to fold it under grabbing it from each the right side and the left side of the wig of the braid i mean, and then i'm going to smooth that out and cross over like normal. Now we're going to add in the second piece of hair, we're going to do the same thing: we're going to grab it right down the middle fold. It right under make sure it's coming out of the right and the left and fold it right over all right. So now we are going to be braiding, the other two sides of the center braid. I have gone and done this one off camera and now we're going to be doing this one. There is no need to add any hair to this braid and you don't really have to take it all the way to the end, because it's just going to be included in the major ponytail and be taken out all right. Now that all of our braid work is done, we have our three braids, our one extended braid in the front and our back braid in the back. All the braiding is done honestly. I do 12 of these at a time sometimes. So it's really really rough. On the hands, but most likely you'll just be doing one. So please take care of your hand for the next step, we're going to be snatching this wig into the one big ponytail that we're creating. So to achieve this, i'm going to exclude parts of the sideburns, because some people be having big-ass heads like me and they need this coverage to make the wig look flawless. So we're going to take about a inch section from each sideburn and then we're going to snatch this ponytail all right. So now that all of that is done, you have your side burns out. Your ponytail is fastened with three zip ties all positioned in front like this, because it's going to help us wrap around that braid to get that base really solid, so it should be hiding all of your um wefting. Nothing should really be poking out. If you can, you can like just reposition some of these pull or unpull the tension to get them all right, but this is what we should be looking at now we're going to take our braid we're going to fold it down. You see how i'm folding it down, i'm going to fold it down and over this first jagged zip tie boom. It'S going to catch and it's going to keep it in place. Then we're going to tightly very tightly wrap it around catching this first one right there and then finally catching this last zip tie like so boom boom, all right, so she's all cleaned up, all brushed out and we're going to be adding the braiding hair in the Back for one of the final steps, it's very important that you take even sections of braided hair, going down the entire braid, because if you don't sections that are too heavy or too small can get really loose and the whole braid will fall apart. So all right! So now that that braid is done, it's very long, it's luscious, it is very uniform. It gets smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller. It looks gorgeous, but there are a lot of flyaways throughout the whole wig um bottom line is this style? Has a lot of flyaways, but we set the wig to eliminate those flyaways and you can touch up with hairspray or you can touch up with um pump it up gold. You can. You can do a lot of things to maintain the wig, but i set the wig so it'll last, quite a while for the customer and what i do that with is got to be glued, so i'll spray, the whole wig spray, spray spray and then blow dry And smooth over everything, also on this part of the braid the base, i'm going to completely drench this braid and pump it up completely like it's going to be rock solid and a bit the very, very first section of the braid too. It'S going to create such a strong base for the hair to be whipped around and just worn over and over do um now that the base of the wig is all set. What we're gon na do is we're gon na set the ponytail. Now, if i drenched this whole ponytail in um got to be or pump it up, we would we would be doing a wendy's commercial okay, so we're not doing that, but what we are gon na do is this is where the kettle comes in you're, going to Warm up a lot of hot water you're going to pour it in the basin. I use the bathroom sink and you're going to pour the boiling hot water in the sink and then you're going to fully submerge this braid into the hot water and then let it dry. What that's going to do is that's going to set this braid and solidify all of these flyaways to just lay down right now: they're flyaways, because the hair is trained to go in all these different directions. So what we're doing by submerging it in the boiling hot water is training the hair to go, how it is, how it is set to be, and that will prevent a lot of high flyaways sorry. I cannot speak today that will prevent a lot of flyaways and it will be perfect for wear once the hair is all submerged and hot you're going to want to hang it and let it dry, you don't want to hang it in any other position. Besides straight because what will happen is it will set whatever angle it's in it's going to set in, so you want the face to be up and the braid to be hanging all straight down like that, we're going to let it dry and then we're going to Come back and show you the finished product, all right guys. This is our finished product. You can tell it's so stunning. The flyaways are so minimal. It'S crazy um, the heat setting of the braid, really really really helps with that um yeah.
