Hi, I'm Kate from the small thanks blog today we're going to do a pretty ponytail. I have curled my hair, similar to my Emily Maynard inspired curls, so not a lot of curl up to the top, but definitely curled on the ends. As you can see, um I've parted by your kind of closer to the center. I don't like a center part of myself, but for this style, if you like to rock a center part, go ahead and pry your hair in the center or you can just move it a little bit off to the center to the side that you normally part On it's a little less scary, if you're not used to the center part - and I don't have anything in my hair - besides aquage uplifting foam that I sprayed in in my roots and blew it dry upside down and then I've curled it - I don't have any hairspray Or anything else, what you'll need is a few elastics. I like the goody brand elastics um you'll probably need one and then some bobby pins, a comb if you like dry, shampoo or any kind of like texture spray, have that I have KMS hair play right now. This is called a makeover spray. It really acts like a dry, shampoo and then some hairspray to finish so, have your hair curled! You can do this on straight hair. It'S going to be a different look, but it you'll be able to do the same concept. We'Re going to kind of rough, our roots up a little bit with a little makeup or spray, so section off and just spray a little bit right at the roots. Don'T do it right in front unless you truly do have Dale's hair and you need a little lift right in front there. Okay, so all this does it gives our roots a little bit of texture. It'S a very clean feeling, texture, it's not going to feel like the powder texturizers that you've seen that I've also talked about in the past, but kind of rub it around breaking in there. Okay, now we're going to go through and tease we're going to go way. Bang on this and then smooth it down when we do the ponytail now, what I want you to do is lay a comb on top of your head to kind of figure out where the very most top of your head is. I don't know why that sounded. So confusing um topmost part of your head. How about that? And then, if you just pick the comb up right here, is where we're going to start teasing backwards. So all of this parted hair we're going to leave parted so we'll kind of grab this top section. As our guide and just begin teasing, so do a mohawk section all the way down. I go until about the center of your head and then flip back that back and then right beneath it begin teasing the sides as well. We'Ll do the same thing. On the other side, you can usually tell that you've used a makeover spray or a dry shampoo in it, your roots when you're teasing, because it'll hold a little bit better now we'll just go through with our fingers and very softly soften it out. You want to leave a lot of the teasing underneath, though so don't worry about it being perfect, okay and then up top you can take our comb, make sure that part doesn't creep back in there. You can kind of push it to one side if you need to okay. So that's all we're going to do so again, not perfect, so kind of messy, but we can smooth it on as we go grab some hairspray. I, like camera volume, 25. I'Ve mentioned that a time or two you want to kind of spray that section back, that you have teased and kind of erase that part my parts kind of showing stove, but just do better than I'm doing. I have like perma part like once. I part my hair, it's not going anywhere. Okay, so we've got that section spring back then we're going to go through hold your arm as far away from your body as you can and just do a light mist of hairspray and everything. This will just give it a little bit of hold. This is great to give you a texture before you go through in style, okay, so we're going to kind of leave the hair around our face out, but we can also pull that out once we get it into the ponytail. So now, instead of slicking it back with your hands and pulling it into a ponytail just really lightly grab everything and go to like kind of the center of your head and throw it in a ponytail right there. So then, if you need to even out the top section that you have teased you just kind of rake against your hair and soften those, two front sections, so they come loose and then we'll spray. Those back and now we can check and make sure we've covered. All the teasing perfect, I usually like to go in and kind of loosen the bottom a little just so it doesn't look too tight. And now, if you need to soften out your ponytail now's the time you can go in with your comb and make sure it's not too rough, looking, don't be afraid to kind of get your hands in there and play with it, spread it out. Okay, see how that kind of softened it out just a little bit just coming over the top, and then since this is a pretty ponytail once you grab a tiny section of hair from the bottom. Okay, I'm just begin wrapping it around that elastic and then secure it if you can on the bottom, just with the bobby pin or two, if you need it perfect, okay, so then for these sections in front I like to kind of spray them and direct them Back and then, if they fall forward, it's okay, they still have a little twist on the ends, so you're kind of just placing the hair where it wants to be, but we're not going to spray it down too much. Okay, so once you're happy with kind of how the sides look to a final check on the back, make sure I'll, smooth and polish, the top kind of soften it out a little bit and then finish with the final mist of hairspray. So the longer your hair is sort of the more elegant. I think it may look the shorter your hair is kind of the less elegant because you may result in it just being like spikes in the back. My hair is kind of an in-between staining to feel like this is alright, but if I was going for like a really glamorous elegant Hollywood ponytail, I do the same exact thing with the front and top, but then maybe do extensions. So you have this long kind of glamorous cascading ponytail, but you can also place this pointy tail lower in your head for it to look longer, um or kind of add extensions and play around with it. That way, if you also wanted to get really fancy with it full of ideas today, you could braid the little piece of hair that you then wrapped around the band. That would be cute and very modern. So I hope you enjoyed this tutorial use this for a fancy occasion if you want to kind of dress up a ponytail a bit or if you're going on a date and it's about a hundred degrees, because that's what it's been lately. This is a great way to look like you've done your hair and styled it, but if it gets humid or you know, you start glistening a little bit - it's not going to matter because all your hair is up and away. So if you want to see any other hair tutorials be sure to check out my blog, the small things, blog calm and feel free to comment with any questions.

Kimberly Stinson: Just wanted to say that your hair tutorials, are by far, the best on YouTube!! The camera angle, your instruction, and your product recommendations, all come together, to make the perfect, easy to follow tutorial, and that's a lot, coming from someone who is absolutely terrible at hair, so thank you!!

maryann: I love that you just jump in to your tutorial. You don't talk about your hair, yourself OR give a lengthy explanation of what you are getting ready to do. You briefly talk and show step by step. Thank you! Great videos !!!

texasteri2000: I grew up in a "style-less" home. My mother didn't know anything about makeup, hair, or clothing. 33 years later, I feel like I'm finally learning everything I should have known in high school. Thanks for helping me be a "girl".

Weight loss as self defence.: Thanks for a great tutorial I was looking for a way to make my kinda fine hair into a classy fluffy thing. This is perfect for me bc my hair is naturally more wavy at ends Def gonna try this later today - currently at work lol

My hair is long and I usually wear on top of my head and I’ve had several comments from people saying I look like Fraggle rock! I have to agree. Loll. Also the reason why I chose your video which was a very good choice is because you cut straight to the chase and I like that. Most of the videos lose me within the first few seconds if their talkative.

I appreciate that you don't drone on and on about unrelated stuff before you begin the tutorial. So many times, I find myself saying "just quit talking and get on with it." You immediately 'get on with it' and I thank you.

Jeanette Jackson: Very pretty. Love your videos because you show us how we can do it ourselves. Real time.

Christina Knapp: That looks awesome can’t wait to try it!

Pam Cox: Love your videos. So helpful & you are adorable. Thank you.

Robin Patterson: Hi there. I've watched a lot of your hair videos recently, since I stumbled upon your blog not long ago, and my question for you is: how often do you wash your hair? I have long thick hair, so hair-do's with a lot of hairspray or products work well, but the problem lies in the washing. I can control my hair much easier (and it looks better) when I don't wash it all the time. But how do I deal with the product gunk when I want to change my style from day to day?

guraqt658: I freakin' love your personality and of course, your hair! From your videos, I feel like you'd be one of the sweetest people to know! I am curious to know though... just how many bottles of Kenra Vol 25 you go through a year? hehe I also prefer that hairspray or Paul Mitchell's freeze and shine but only if I'm able to comb out the crunchy bits. =) Thank you for your videos!

joliejude: this is a perfect tutorial... love the pony.... please do a hair style/ tutorial with hair extension?

Marisela Spaulding: Love it! My hair is a naturally curly and a little on the tick side, but I blow dry it straight with a roll brush. Would I have to tease my hair to get this volume or are you teasing it and adding product to make it have more volume because your hair is thin? I liked how you let the front part of your hair just hang there but placed it there with the hair spray. I don't like to have my hair touching my face, so the long bangs that I have really get on my nerves and I'm constantly flipping my hair back behind my ear. How can I get it to stay in place without adding a whole lot of hair spray?

singmetosleep29: I love the way my hair looks down when I curl it with your method, but when I pull it back in a pony, the left side of my hair (where my part is) always ends up sticking out... practically horizontal. And the right looks perfectly fine. So I just end up looking ridiculous. Any advice?

Monica Swavel: nice!! I am going to do this tomorrow! thank you!

Madara Zilgalve: wow it looks so beautiful!!!!

Amanda D: I loved this look so great for our 100 degree weather here in Alabama. I went to a 4th of July BBQ and wore a kate style wow it was wonderful having it up and off my neck. Ohh I love your minty top in this video where is it from?

Cubby Levi: I loved these older videos so much! I’ve been a subscriber for many years☺️

Anna Granly: I have thin hair and it goes to about the middle of my back. I love the messy buns. Those clear little elastic band I have trouble with them when time to take them out. Not kidding it was so bad I had to cut them off. I also lose a lot of hair.I love you videos

UNIQUE A Etc.: I love your videos, my favorite is this one. I have very fine hair what can I do to make my hair look thicker and more easy to style?

Tara Gorski: Agreed I'm looking into the same similar style. I love yours.

Eden Crawford: I have "permapart" too :) I love the comb trick to find where to start teasing!

Donna: So beautiful!

2bluesparkles: Love it! Thank You :)

Lewis Byrd: Very nice! Your hair doesn’t look like a big bee hive it looks like you just threw it in a ponytail with no muss no fuss. Very cool I’m going to try it tomorrow

Estela Mendonça: great tutorial ! thanks

Nancy Peralta: Cute cute cute!  Great instructions!

Kimberley Kessler: love all you do with your hair, but I have to say, I have majorly thick hair. It amazes me you can use those little thin ponytail holders. Looks great though. Any ideas for the thick hair?

Dr. Darya McDaniel, O.D.: Great videos, thank you. What are the dimensions of your cricket comb? What exactly is it called? Amazon offers Pro 20, 25 and 30 combs. Which one is yours?

Vivianaa Davila: love this ^.^ but my hair is to short to have it look nice curled . can you make tutorials for short straight hair ?

Sioni Reuben: Love your video's - fun & educational... who knew? Well done

Tiktan&ter2014 Copter2012: so cute!easy.. thank you..

usmcwifey713: If you could put product links in the description box that would be super awesome. Just a thought. You're great. :)

thatsgawsome: That is the prettiest style ever!

peekaboots01: Absolutely lovely! You are so lovely. I haven't had luck doing the hair wrap around my pony. I have thick hair and maybe I'm grabbing to much to wrap around??

ROCA6904: asombrada con la facilidad que tienes para encrepar tu pelo!

Inga: Does the Aquage Uplifting Foam help with the teasing? You get such a good tease, mine seems to just fall even with a dry shampoo on my roots!

Godsgirl001: I wish I could achieve this look.
