Lesson 4 - Easy How To Sew A Scrunchy Ponytail Holder

Visit my Clothing Design blog! http://www.petitpoix.blogspot.com A simple tutorial for how to make a scrunchy ponytail holder.

Hi there today, I'm going to show you how to make a scrunchie for your hair. Very simple, really just two elements: a piece of fabric rectangular and a rubber band and a sewing machine inside the mill. You can sort by hand. But it will take a long time. The first step is to measure the full stretch of your rubber band. This will help you choose how much fabric to use here we use centimetres. So the full stretch of this rubber band reaches 23 centimeters, so my red tank fabric should be 23 centimeters long by as wide as you'd like the more fabric you use poofier, it will be so. The first step is to take your rectangle and fold it together. Right sides, together in half like so go to your sewing machine and sew that one side I love the large stitch. So what you're left with we're now in this clip off the excess? The next step. After doing this, make sure your seam isn't that big? You put it on your wrist. I hope you can see. This is one of my first videos, so I may not be as smooth as other videos. You see then put the rubber band on like this and fold it over the rubber band like that. Now find the seen put the seen together and fold the raw edges inwards like this, then go to your sewing machine and sew as close to the edge all around you will have the seam showing so try to be neat about it. I only do a portion of it and then I'll just show you. The final result which I have here I like to start at the same right on the very edge and as you're, sewing you fold in these raw edges, so so little fold in the raw edges whoa before you fold, stop holding the raw edges when you're finished You end up going all the way around to the end, so here's an example of one I made out of a teal or fluorescent blue fabric see I started here. It'S kind of showing a lot, but then I sorta round around the raw edges are folded inwards and there you have your scrunchie, you can make it out of any kind of fabric. This is a stretchy fabric. This is a non stretchy fabric. You still use the same amount of fabric for the pouf, the stretchy fabric. Just did you added elasticity, but it's no different. You still have to use more fabric to make it poofy. I made some less poofy one this one. I use a little bit shorter amount of coverage. You notice it's less poofy, but it's still nice. So that's a good idea for you to use your scraps of fabric with when you're finished, with your sewing projects. Thank you for watching.

fettuccinetube: Thanks for watching. Using this method you have to sew very neatly because you cannot turn it inside out. You fold the raw edges inward and then topstitch.

HiSBaByDoLL24: Thanks you ^_^ im making two scrunchies right now this was easy and helpful for me <3

tuflore: Muchas gracias!!! Tu explicación es muy clara. Saludos :)

fettuccinetube: @TheOceanLiife Thanks for watching my video! For scrunchies practically any material works. I just use pieces of leftover material from my sewing projects. I have used jersey knits as well as stiff blue jean denim and other weaved materials. I prefer stretchy knits because it gives extra hold together with the rubber band. But that is just my preference. Experiment!

FuturegirlJennifer: very nice video...ive been wanting to make my own scrunchies for a while..but i want to do it by hand cuz i never really got the hang of that when i was younger..and no machine lol. but i am confused...after u put the band on yer wrist and do that folding..then what do u do? if u do by hand, do u stitch around on side, then turn it inside out and seal the other side? just wondering. thanks again..very nice video...pretty :)

fettuccinetube: That is a good idea! A nightgown video. I have so many videos I would like to do and keep getting sidetracked.

fettuccinetube: I had heard that scrunchies were "out" but they are so comfortable and useful that I figure they will be back "in" again SOME day! Scraps are good for patchwork quilts. Some people are actually willing to BUY scraps, try the web page ETSY to see if you can sell them.

shinypath: wow that was nice Clearly explained thnk you for sharing...

HiSBaByDoLL24: if i wanna make the scrunchy poofier, do i add more material height or length wise?

fettuccinetube: If you add more fabric to the width the scrunchy will be floppier, Like a clown collar. If you add more fabric to the length it will be poofier. It depends on the look you are going for.

PINKSHUFFLE: YOU ARE AMAZING.

fettuccinetube: I actually was born and raised in New York, then I moved around the States for a few years and my New York accent got warped and now having lived in Argentina for six years I am even starting to develop a Spanish accent when I speak inglish.

amy jameson: I have made like 20 of these I wear them in my bun at dance

Bluwhodesign: Wow that was great, I make these too, but I use elastic instead of rubber bands. We in the USA pronounce centimeters differently, but you sound like you have a US accent where did you grow up?

Ashly morales: that was verry good.. i think im getting for christ =mass this year a sowin mashin. im going to try that.. thats good for me cause i never have a ponytall to hold my hair..

fettuccinetube: Yay!
