Spiralocks - Dreadlock Hair Tie Review!

Greetings - Salutations - Hello! Today I'm sharing my thoughts on Spiralocks!

A cool looking dreadlock-specific hair tie that I've been seeing a lot of on Instagram lately, Sprialocks seem to cure the main issue I have with regular elasticated hair ties - uneven or unreliable holding pressure... and also avoids the hair pulling I get from tying my dreads back with other dreads.

Greetings: citations ho. I have not said that in a while today we're getting spirally today, I'm gon na spiral, locks spiral, locks spiral, locks these things this thing on my wrist, it's something that I've not looked at before, but I've seen a lot of on social media. Basically, what I mean about is I've, seen people with them on Instagram in their pictures like what is that? What do they have? Where do they get that, and now I have one so I've been using a couple of different spiral, locks on my hair for maybe two or three weeks now, and I'm ready to give my verdict. What does it do? Is it good? Let'S see first off it's this thing and I'll take it off like this. I thought when I saw it at first, it was one of the things that snapped onto your wrist. I don't know what you call those, but you used to get them as a kid. In fact, I have some now for like it's like reflector strips and you snap it up, but it's not it's kind of a bendy wire which is probably for the best because, if it snapped on, I would play with it all the time and wear it out And that would be no good. It'S a bendable wire in a little fabric jacket. They come in loads of different shades and colors, maybe sizes, I'm not sure I have two here and this one, which is black, which is maybe slightly slightly shorter, and I have this one and I'm gon na explain why I have two different flavors in a minute, But, let's just stick with one for the sake of making a sense. So what does it do? Well, it's designed for tying back your dreadlocks, basically in a kind of different and more colorful way than what I was doing before, which is using these. These are kind of just elastic, hair ties and well, I do like these and they are often indispensable, but the problem with these is they're kind of disposable and they have to because it's just elastic and they stretch and they stretch out. So when we talk about your dreadlocks after a few weeks, it kind of stops being stretching just becomes like this limp rope, which is super useful, because the main downside with this is, let me just put this spiral lock down. When I tie back my hair, I kind of ponytail it up and then to tighten it, you fold it over and then you follow it round again, and so you can only kind of have them this tight, this tight or you can fold it round again, and It'S kind of, if I only have it once over, it's not very tight. My hair falls out dreads full loose. If I pull it over twice then yeah sure holds my dress in place, but then it slowly starts to lose its elasticity. I'M pretty quick if you're wearing everyday, so then you're trying to fold it over a third time. It'S too tight, and so that's kind of annoying, because I don't like having my dreadlocks held in a ponytail and held too tight because it pulls on my hair and it gives me a headache and it pulls my head. It'S not very comfortable and don't like having it too loose because dreads are constantly falling out, says like what's the point on the back. This attempts to solve that because you can choose exactly how loose or how tight you want and it's not going to lose elasticity. I'Ll just show you how it works. I guess okay, now you can have to excuse my dreadlocks and my hair are probably a lot more messy than yours, that's kind of what I come to expect, but this is my hair from the back and to put it on. I just take this. Then it's been scooping it underneath I'm falling over and like that easy can we all see, am I in frame sort off and because I can just kind of pull it as tight or as loose as I want. I can make sure that it is tight enough to hold my hair back, but not so tight that it pulls on all my hair really uncomfortably. Yes, yes, yes, sometimes I'm still using one of these, because I have lots of loose hair in my face. I scoop the loose hair one of those, but this is what the spiral lock does. Is it good at what it does? It is because yeah this is oh, this is a new one. Is this signed afraid bits of elastic because they're super cheap and it's fine because it lasts a few weeks because then I lose one I lose Electra, it loses its elasticity and yeah. It'S fine, this much better. A lot better grip looks nicer and I can the right amount of hold. I would demonstrate some of the different things that you can do like hold your dreadlocks in different ways, but I suck anyone see me, try and do a drug bond. No, I don't have a video on me trying to do I'm trying to do a dread bond. I have a video of me putting my hair in a pineapple because that's as close as I can get so this is all you're gon na see me do with this cuz. This is basically all I can do, but yeah it does the job. Oh, I was gon na mention why I have to I have this because I wear this one in class enjoying the day and I wear a black one when I'm at work cuz. I just wear all black at work and I think it looks quite smart. I think just having like a black spiral, walk is kind of smarter looking than just a string of elastic. I don't know. That'S just me. My thoughts on the spiral lock, therefore are better than elastic. Has the advantage of the elastic in that it doesn't rub on the hair like if you're using a rubber band or one that's really thin, it can dig into dreads, especially young dreads. This won't because you want over, tighten and like clamp down on young dreads. You can have it just as tight or just as loose as you want. You can have them in a variety of different colors. I think, basically, if your dreads are long enough to hold a ponytail, one of these is gon na cover it. I guess the downsides are they're gon na be more expensive than an elastic they're gon na last a lot longer than an elastic. You would imagine, but if you lose one like I'll, lose elastic ones a lot, then you know you've lost more in one chunk and I don't think they'll last forever side note. I think I look really cool on your wrists or anomaly where the elastic in my wrists but a spiral, what looks cooler and that's kind of yeah. I don't think that lasts forever, especially if you play with them, because it's kind of a wire inside of this fabric, so I think, if you bend it backwards, affords too many times or too vigorously you like, where the metal out it will you get metal fatigue On it and wear out, I'm not sure how long it will last because this thing I'm not going to just use one forever until it breaks. If you want to do my review, but I think it's a pretty decent quality thing and it's got ta last fine. They have lots of people, I know lots of people who have been using them and they mostly seem fine. So the verdict after around two three weeks of spiral lock, are we going to keep spiral ocking or are we gon na go back to the elastic thing? You'Re gon na keep strong, looking they're much more fun. I'M definitely. I definitely know that it's metal, so I probably shouldn't just play with them all the time, because you know the elastic wears out. These will eventually wear out, but there are a lot more fun and people ask what they are more when you're asleep. What is that weird thing? Quick anecdote to leave you on, since I don't really have anything else to say it holds your hair up really nicely. It'S what I'm gon na use to hold my hair up from now on. It'S my now preferred choice of holding my hair back during the day, because it's a lot more comfortable than any of the other methods that I've used, but an anecdote that I'll leave you on is. I think I had this in my bag and my mother picked up my bag, and so I said, can you bring my bag to me and she picks it up? She goes why? What do you need out of this bag? And then all I heard was that she screamed because she put her hand into the bag, and this was condoms just like this, and she thought it was a snake. So she screamed and apparently dropped the bag and she was convinced there was a snake in the bag. I'M like all right. That'S, I think, that's a perk, that's a perk of the spiral lock, but if you're afraid of snakes or know people of a disposition, they're afraid of snakes that maybe this is not for them. I don't see it. I don't see it I'll leave some links to spiral lock in the description if you want to check them out, because we think they're, pretty cool and if you're looking for something in your life to fill this dreadlock tying gap, that's kind of colorful and a bit More versatile than an elastic hair tie, then links will be there if this video is helpful, useful or informative, you know what to do you can like or if you ever want to see me again. You can subscribe because then you'll see my new videos. I would like to thank you guys for watching, I hope to see you again next time. Next, one

BoringCanadianAMV: I use the same elastics you do for my dreads, throw them in the dryer when they get loose and they will tighten right back up, been doing it with my original 6 for almost a year and they're still nice and tight. Love your videos, glad to see a new video been a while, hope school going well for you

Charlotte Cagiano: Love Spiralocks! I purchased one for my locs back in 2016 when they were 5 months old or so, and I’ve had it until the beginning of this year. It ended up breaking in half after it’s great use it brought, but since it’s wrapped in whatever material your Spiralock is made out of, the metal stays contained/ bendable and still workable. It looks weird being “broken” in the center of mine, but it’s still wearable. I wanna eventually order a new one, but I’ve been using those throwback 90’s puffy scrunchies currently.

Amanda Champion: So glad u did this video,I have been considering getting a spiralock for a minute but wasn't sure how they would hold up..definitely gonna have to get me one..Thanks brother..✌

Jason Crook: Like all your videos bud . Started my dread journey five weeks ago. Thanks to you I knew what I was letting myself into

Kristen Marosi: You never disappoint! I was in tears laughing! You're awesome. I have my first Spiralock and I love it! Two more are on their way. Never thought to use them as bracelets. Thx for educating me!

Mandy Dennis: Love mine! Had them just over a year or so now. I also have two and no longer use anything else to tie my locks back with. Glad you finally gave them a go and seem as happy as I was when I got mine. :)

Rawesome: Its awesome to hear you bring in the video with " greetings, salutations, hello!" Again. Thank you for all of the tips and info over the years. Keep up the good work. Im starting my dread journey in 3 weeks.!!!! Can't wait.

Chad Van Ness: I actually made my own. Cost me about $2 to make and it works great.

Caylee Warner: Yay! I've been looking into these! I wear my dreads up constantly and elastics drive me insane. Thanks for the review!

Chris Lobermeier: Honestly for me I prefer to fold over a bandana in the style people do to tie around their forehead. It allows me to hold my hair back for hours, and it can still be as tight or as loose as I want it to be. Any style you want as well, and cheap, and washable! Just start from over, wrap around both sides back to underneath and tie. If there is enough material left, wrap it back on top and tie a second time.

AnOrganizedMess: I use these plastic Slinky looking hair ties for medium hold by goody. I really like them I've been using them for about a year since I started my dreads. I recommend them. They're like $5 for a pack of 3 but they last forever

Felicia Follum: I made one of my own and absolutely love it!!!

Beryl B Designs: Your Dreadlocks are beautiful love the spiral lock too! Thanks for letting us see it.

Skymouth: I've been using a buff to hold my locks back. Works like a charm except for the whole itchy part

Mama Tree: I had an awesome Spiralock for over a year, paid $35 for it, and then one cold, snowy, winter day our little family went to a walk-through Christmas lights display at a zoo and I was wearing it. But it qas cold, so I wanted to put my hood up, which meant I had to take my dreads down. So I put the Spiralock on my wrist. On the drive home (this place was over an hour away) I realized my Spiralock was gone!!!! *SOBS* I was so mad and upset!!! I tried multiple times to contact the zoo to see if anyone found it and I never heard anything from them. *SOBS AGAIN* So yeah, that is my Spiralock sob story. It really does suck when you lose one. ☹ I need to buy myself a new one, but I want a longer one this time...which means more $$$ So I haven't had the money to dish out for it yet *sigh*

MyDaze: I love that you made a new video. I've been wanting a spiralock. I laughed about your mom thinking it was a snake! I love your videos!

Grego Sciascia: Question! Do you recommend shaving the first two dreadlocks that are on the sides? I think it is more aesthetic and comfortable.

N. E: Mine will last for about 3 months. 2 broke in the last halve year (the wire breaks). They are great though. Best thing I've found to wrap my locs together

Horrent Gamer: hey lazy dreads so i made my 1st year ! and was wondering how do you get so used to the frizz xD im still bothered by it but other than that my locks look so nice :D , and do you put anything to cover your dreads before sleeping ? im glad you came back to the youtube world !! greetings from NY love your videos !

Indiana Salve: I love these. And they double as cool jewelery when they are not in your hair.

Candace Starr: Spiralocks are a great company too! Women in a small village in Gunu make a lot of them and buying them help support these women so they can buy things like a stove and other necessities to live :)

Selia C: I used to use the elastic ones, but they kept breaking on me and that was not good while I was shooting a rifle In a competition. So I cut out some leather to the thickness of my hair and the it together with another peace if leather and that has worked. This looks good to though, thank you I think I'm ganna try it. Love your videos!

Sonja Lee: I have a few of them but I don’t use them very often. I like them, but I either wear my dreads up in a bun that holds up by itself or I wear my dreads down. They are good for holding up a cool high pony tail though.. Spiralocks is a very cool company .. they made me a custom one with colors I picked out & they have lots to choose from as well.. any color combo or fabric you can dream up & they will make for you. Plus, they are super friendly too!

Fattie Workman: Good to see you again man.I was looking at some of these yesterday, guess I’m going to order them now lol

H4UN73R: Thank you for this. they have some snake style ones now and some adornments on there page as well. very cool :D

Spirit Raps: Love your videos, where have you been? You inspired me to get dreads and so far I'm about a year and a half into my adventure. Hope you're doing okay.

Double D: Been watching you for years to make sure i want dreads for sure, and its finally time

Leff Handed Productions: I bought a couple on Etsy and liked them very much.

Forest Dweller: Great video! I love the 'snake' anecdote too.

Jenkem: I feel like its been way longer than a month sense you’ve uploaded lol glad to see you back!

Nic B: I looove my Spiralock! Would recommend :)

Sleepy Sloth: Do you tie your dreads with other dreads sometimes? I do so but I'm not sure if it won't hurt my dreads in a long term. Is it better to just use bands and head wraps?

Kael Molo: Can you tie your hair up using this? like a top bun? I have my dreads on a bun almost all the time and was wondering if this is only for tying it down the back

Sam Parker: I wished I lived in Sheffield , so I can play with your dreads all day

Adesanya: OOOOOO I'm going ot look .. and then try and make my own!! Thanks Chris!!

Jay t: _What method did you use to get your dreads_ ?

Sam's Pets: I love how you say Greetings, Salutations. I used to say Greetings, Salutations, Felicitations & All Hail to my friends father a long long time ago so you bring back fond memories with your intro. How about adding Felicitations & All hail to your intro? Maybe not? It is probably not the right time for the latter....But it is so cool how connected we all are xx

Kevin Johnston: Still got mine hitin 6 mths. Still look like a tated up Viking. But it's almost to my roots. Thanks for ur pointers last few months brother.

Tasha Ezaki: Love it and thanks!

Lala: My twist and rip dreads are only a few weeks old and they keep trying to lock up together and combine. I'm always ripping up hair to separate them. Do you have any suggestions?

Paul McCartney: It's been awhile since i could... hold my hair up tied It's been awhile since last you uploaded lol *Staind music in the background*

merrie People: My dread guru!!

Kevin Massey: I made my own before I even knew they were a thing.

cece calypso: I use these hairbands that you like.. wear on your forehead? So they arent meant for putting your hear up just keep your hair out of your face. It doesn't wear out, i wrap it 3 times. Just a tipp from me since you can get those in alot of stores for less money
