Diy Spiralock Tutorial: How To Make Your Own Bendable Hair Tie

i wanted to try and make my own spiralock inspired bendable dread tie, but i couldnt find anything at all on how to make one.

If you want a thinner dread band. You can just use a piece of 12 gauge wire with no twisting.

you do not have to use pipe cleaners!! the first one i made had a cotton felt core.

i hope this helps someone.

the smaller gauge wire was not needed because the fabric was long enough to tuck inside of its self.

the wire in the middle is 12 gauge.

you dont have to twist the wire. but i needed more security because my faux locs are really heavy. but it holds them, i will make a longer one next time.

i make these ties for the dreadlock sets i make for my small business. so i know they will hold.

if you have any questions feel free to ask.

there is a picture of it holding my very heavy faux locs securely. just click the link below

So I'm gon na to drop. I made these things. You need some smaller gauge wire, like I'm, really sure what gauge says - and this is 12 gauge wire, awesome, ayah cutters, scissors, small shirts is fabric and you don't need pipe cleaners, but I just have them so I'll cut off about two feet of this. You don't have to use, you don't have to double it. Like idea, you can just um use one piece, but it work, but because my hair is heavy. I want to use two I'm going to twist this round. Okay, I've twisted wire with itself. So now I'm going to wrap this with fabric. This is just the general shape. I'M going to use pipe cleaners to do this. You don't have to you, can just cut strips of the t-shirt up, but I found it. I like wrapping the home the pack cleans around, so I'm gon na write the pipe goons around this and get that okay, I'm wrapping it around um. This is my first one I made. I just want to reiterate that you don't have to use the pipe cleaners inside. This is just more t-shirt. They'Re all flexible, this one's like really sturdy. It'S been used to okay, so I'm still around in it just twist this, so I could keep having to say if you wanted to say that you don't have to use pipe cleaners, you just need something to wrap around the wire before you put on the actual Fabric that you want the outside okay, so here is here, is where it's rapping home with the pipe cleaners and I'll hold a shade all right. So now I'm going to cut a piece fabric. That'S the same length is this okay, so I cut a strip of fabric I'm using and I'm just going to take my spot a lock, then I'm going to wrap it around and all my drama off the fabric around it. This is the hardest part for me. Getting the fat round every now and then I'll try to pull it taut tight above them, Otto pull it tight and make sure this is wrapping properly. Okay, so working on wrapping like tightening this up and once I'm tying it, I like pulling twist ties around it. So it stays secure when I'm talking the fabric. Okay, so I'm going to do this to the whole link. Okay, so I wrapped this shirt around the piece of shirt and you can see I'll just Lord lower. I just tuck the ends into each other, so that they're not shooting out the other one. I had. I use this wire to like secure something with this hold up below, so I'm going to start wrapping the twine around you can sew it shut but lower, lower, lower messy may Sagan. Okay, I'm going to use twine talk around and secure it. You can stitch! It closed but don't have me and that stuck with me right now, so let's take my months, why n -- take the time and rabbits around tightly okay and some just kind of start, braiding down start twisting down I'll show you guys what that looks like when This to sit down okay, this is one. This is the twine wrapped around one X. So when I left I'm hanging and I've secured both ends so negative, wrap this side on the next plot is little things I use to secure it right around there, but don't need it anymore, and so this is the finished product. Man set race them away.

Kaelyn Noelle: I just found the best thing at Home Depot (possibly bought online?) but they are called Gear Tie and they are pencil-thick, silicone-covered, bendable wires. And they come in different lengths! The ones I bought (18 inches long) were 2 for $5. I wrapped them in my favorite colored yarn and they work great! They come in 12", 18" and I think 22".

Loren Newman: Just started my loc journey and was saw these on etsy and I was like they have to be easy to make right?! Thanks so much for this tutorial! I can not wait to make my own!

The Loc King: AWESOME! Thanks! I can make one as big or small as I want and probably wear it around my wrist like I would a headband when it is not in my hair.
