Everyone Kaleigh your friendly neighborhood hairstylist here and today we're going to go over two ways to get a 5-minute ponytail routine. That will make your short or medium hair look um, so my most viewed video ever is my five minute ponytail routine, that I did when my hair was hellish ously long, oh, my goodness, and the whole video is around giving you really cool tips that you can Add into your ponytail routine, so it can be a whole five minutes or it can be even less depending on what you want to utilize, either way you're taking all these like celebrity stylist tips and tricks and working it into your life and making your ponytail that Much better for it, and now that my hair is a wee bit shorter, I thought let's update it for 2019, so I'm gon na do both a low and the high ponytail option. I timed myself both of these were done in under five minutes, so they are quick. They are easy and I think they're pretty cute. So, let's get into it. Let'S start with the low ponytail first you're gon na start by splitting your hair in half and putting the bottom half into the first ponytail. This is going to help to keep you from having a saggy bottom on your ponytail, which we don't want, but it also gives your hair a little bit more freedom to be voluminous and full. At the top later then, you're gon na drop down the top layer. You want to very gently brush it back, maintaining as much volume as possible and then secure that with an elastic around the first ponytail that we did now doing. This definitely gives you more volume, but it also gives you a wider ponytail base, which fakes. The look of a thicker ponytail, both in the ends of your hair and in just the base of the ponytail, so everything is looking much more full and because I am all about the volume now, I'm going to loosen up the hair over the ponytail holder and Around my face, I think it's very cute to leave pieces out around your face just to frame things, make it look a little bit more laid-back and obviously this is going to add to the volume around your crown and now to bring the volume into the ponytail You'Re going to back brush the ponytail by holding it up and literally brushing backwards, so you get a nice fluffy tease and the nice fullness into the ponytail once you've done that you do want to go over and smooth the top just a little bit. So everything looks good and not too crazy, and the final step is to wrap some hair around the elastic. If you want to, I just think it makes everything look, a little bit more polished and finished off and once you've done, that the ponytail is done, and that is the low ponytail routine. You can see a big difference in the before and after the before. It'S just a little droopy or a little saggy err, not as much volume, whereas the after you get all the extra volume and all the extra fullness. It also just looks more styled and purposeful, because you get to use all those celebrity tricks that you would see on Instagram or TV or movies, or about carpets or whatever they're, not actually, that hard, they're very easy and they can add a lot of Luke. So that's the low ponytail. Now, let's move on to the truly difficult one, with short to medium hair, the high ponytail, okay, I said difficult, but this is still like five minutes. Okay, it's just a little bit more finesse. So for this one I like to start with my hair a little bit more curled. I have a three-quarter inch curl in my hair right now, but it will also look good on straight hair or like wavy hair as well. Let'S get started first you're going to take a tiny circle of hair at the crown of your head and put that into a ponytail. The reason that we're doing that is to create a nice base so that you have a little bit more control of your style and again you avoid the saggy bottoms and everything is nice and perky. Then you're gon na brush everything else up and pull it into a ponytail around that first elastic. This gives you a really good chance to get everything up and tamed the way you want it and again, adding that extra elastic on top is gon na make the base of your ponytail wider. Now those baby hairs, they might be falling out already or they might be about to, but I would say, pull it down, get as many of those free as possible, so you can deal with them while you're sitting in front of a mirror with bobby pins and Not later in the day, I'm gon na grab all those together and twist them so that they stay together more easily and then I'm going to bobby pin up and into the twist so that they stay all day. This obviously helps to avoid baby hairs hanging out on your neck, and it also helps the back of the ponytail to look nice and lifted and snatched, which is always the goal now to add the volume to the ponytail we're gon na back brush again by holding The ponytail up and brushing backwards with a hair brush and honestly go for it. The more you do, the more volume you have, and I always love a very full ponytail. Then, if you want even more support, split that ponytail in half and put a claw clip into the center of it, this is just kind of the push-up bra for your ponytail, so that once it's done and you've finished all of it you've got something inside helping It to be perky and lifted all day long, as opposed to maybe a little bit more flat if you've had it now. You'Re gon na want to take your hair brush and smooth over the top and maybe even brush out the ends. If they're looking a little wispy you'll still be able to keep the tees up close to the base of the ponytail, so you're still gon na have the volume, but you do want to take the crazy down a little bit and now you're gon na wrap some Hair around the base to make sure that it looks nice and polished and then the final tip to avoid that gap between the base of your ponytail and your head is to take just a tiny bit of that hair press it down against your head and bobby. Pin it there, it makes the whole ponytail look more voluminous, because it's taking up more space now takes two seconds. It'S my favorite ponytail trick, and that is my high ponytail routine. You can see this is much more snatched at the base. The pony is more full. Everything is more placed. I love it now. I dunno with short to medium hair, depending on the length of your ponytail, the high ponytail may or may not be the best. So if you want to do all these things with the middle ponytail, that would work super. Well, as well, just depending on what's gon na work for your length of hair and those are my two 5-minute ponytail routines for short, /, medium hair. I hope that you guys enjoyed this I loved making that original video years ago. So I hope this one helps update it for 2019. All of these tips and tricks will still work for long hair, so feel free to give it a try. Also, you know there is the original video also for long hair. So you have all the tips as well. I just feel like it's really fun, to learn the simple ways to upgrade something that you wear every single day to make it just that more put together and not much more exciting. So it's not the same thing. Every single day, if you have any little hair tricks that I missed, tell me about them in the comments cuz, I would love to hear and also tell me which of these ponytails was your favorite. Because, honestly, I want to know between low and high, which one wins tell me in the comments, but that's it for today. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Hannah Noel: The double ponytail! I have had short hair for most of my life and stacking two ponytails on top of each other helps so much.

Krista Off-Cannatella: LOVED THESE TIPS! (High pony has my vote, but both look amazing!) I use a few of these tricks (the clip & wrapping hair around pony) but you added so many more to make it look extra full, polished, & actually styled! As a mom of 4- 3 who r *very* young & close in age, under 5 mins to get any "IG worthy" hair is beyond helpful! *Can't thank you enough for doing this new short/medium vid* as I'm chopping off 6-8 inches very soon! Katerina K: love this! looking forward to trying out the low pony!

Nicole Vermaelen: Love all of your videos!! I'm not sure if you are taking requests but I would absolutely love to see some quick work hairstyles for those of us who spend 40 hours/week in a formal work environment (although, I totally rock polka dot scrunchies at work). I've watched a few of these videos before but they all seem to almost exclusively be different bun variations. Bonus if you can throw in a few "from workout to work work" hairstyles us morning workout babes! :)

S.J. Howland: Hey Kayley, I've been a long time viewer of your videos, and one of your best recommendations has been the Kristin Ess hair water. The other has been the constant stream of hairstyles, even if I am old fashioned.

Addie Wood: Thank you so much i have given up on a high ponytail with my short hair but now i might try again with these tips

Julie Kerschner: Hey Ya'll. So, I love watching hair tutorials. They're basically all I watch on youtube. (Kayley is by far my favorite.❤ ) My favorite way to style my hair (and anyone else's) is in braids. I absolutely love my braids!!!!!! But I always have the same problem. My natural hair color is a dark (almost ashy) brown and all one color. It's never been dyed or anything. When I do braid my hair, I can hardly see it. It just doesn't show up on my head. I run into the same problem when I try to do intricate updos. It kinda ends up looking like a mess with no dimension at all... I remember Kayley did a video on braiding dark hair a while back, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips in general for "fancy" hairdos on dark hair. Any thoughts?

Elizabeth Yates: Oh my gosh you just saved my high Pony-Tail I'm so trying this!!! BOTH WIN!

maroussia29: Idea for a video :P Hi! I'm Maroussia, 25 years old, from Belgium. I'm a stewardess with grooming obligations, and i always put my hair in the same hairstyle (a high bun). But this is very bad for my hair and i'm experiencing some breakage in my hair... Since i don't really know how to switch things up, I was wondering if you could give me some ideas for some cute hairstyles that still look "neat and tidy" (ponytale, bun, braids,...) thanks a lot! x

twinklybones: I LOVE a high pony and I am so glad my hair is finally long enough to wear one again

humaira jawed: Hey Kayley I was wondering if you could do a step by step video on how to style wispy bangs or bangs in general?

ChrissyPlus: I love a high pony but I like to have some accent hair loose at the front or tied to the side or something so it's not all straight back so I vote for ponytail #1! But they are both great- just not equally My Style (TM) lol

Ava Johnson: Can you please do an updated long hair 5 Minute Ponytail Routine (Maybe on your sister)

betyl: ohhh! You'd think what's so special about pony tails but yea! I love the tips on the first hair style already.

Can you make a video on tips and tricks to hide a bad hair cut? Love your videos btw

AB: I love these hairstyles but i dont wanna do the backcombing Its so damaging

Kim Gossling: Walking to my bathroom now to try the high ponytail! ‍♀️

Tea Korosec: Love these tricks....Ugh my straight hair can't stand me watching these videos...can't do anything with my fine, straight ass hell hair

Suzi the Sea Witch: I like the low the best, but it's easiest to drive in the high pony :) (No poking in the back of the head from the pony.)

amnesia: wow tysm this was very helpful!

Se Nacho: i have long wavy hair that’s thick and i don’t benefit from these vids hair wise but they always make me happy anyway ❤️
