I have been so scared because it's been so long since I've done anything hugely drastic to my hair.. I can't help it but be nervous. Here we go. No turning back now.. My name is Kristina Ferris and I'm gon na be getting my hair transformed into a perm.. Before you see my hair transformation subscribe below., I grew up in Dubai.. I'Ve been a dancer pretty much my whole life. And then I had kids. So I moved back to America to start my family.. How has being a mom changed? My beauty, routine? I don't have one now.. If I'm being honest - and I know all the moms out there would relate to me. I shower like once every two days, maybe three days.. I have no time to do anything with my hair., I wash it I get out of the shower. I let it air dry and then I whack it in a bun whenever I have to pick up a child because they'll try and pull it out of my head., I used to braid my hair a lot to try and get waves in my hair, and now I can't have both of my hands occupied for that long., So I really just don't have time unless I stay up at night and do it., But when my kids are asleep, I'm either cleaning or trying to get some sleep myself or eating my first meal of The day., So I don't have time for that.. This Perm is perfect timing, because my birthday is coming up in a few days and then the day after my birthday, I’m leaving with my baby, daddy and he’s performing at Essence, Festival. Not gon na, have to worry about it. Not gon na have to feel self conscious, backstage. I’m so excited.. I really hope that my hair turns out that same relaxed vibe as like a Kate Hudson or someone like that.. I just I just want to be effortlessly. Awesome. Hi, I'm Janine. My name is Janine. Jarman owner of Hairroin Salon in Los Angeles., So why do you want a perm? I just don't have time.. I have two toddlers at home. OK.. It'S like mom, bun or nothing. OK.. As a mom myself, curly hair has really liberated my time in the morning.. You have really long heavy hair., You have a ton of it., So we want something tighter at the roots so that it really supports your shape. Cool. I can't wait.. Alright, let's do it. Let'S lob some length off.. Here we go Honestly, I'm just hoping that this perm will help me feel better about myself.. I won't have to be like ``, Oh god, I haven't washed my hair in two days.''. I can just get up and go.. Did you tell anybody? You were getting a perm, I told Eddie. I told my partner. He’s excited for me to just have a an easier time. He’s like excited, because I’m excited Yeah kind of thing., yeah And it’s your birthday tomorrow. I know How cool. I couldn’t be happier doing this. The day before your birthday., Everybody should have fabulous hair.. These are end papers.. This helps keep your ends in and wrapped around the rods. I’m setting it on the rods to-, how it’s gon na fall. The smaller the rod, the tighter the curl.. So these are bigger ones and alternating them is gon na give that more natural effect.. The last perm that I had when I was a kid was a full on 90s perm and thanks mom for that.. I used to have to wear makeup all the time and have to have my hair done all the time., But now with kids, I don't have time for that. And as much as you feel self-conscious about not being able to wear makeup every day or not having Your hair done you also --, just because you have to --. You also start to feel a little bit more comfortable with that.. Here we go No turning back now.. This goes into your inner cortex layer and breaks the hydrogen bonds wraps it around the curl and tells it you’re. Now a curly piece of hair. It’s, one of the biggest chemical alterations. We can do to hair ‘cause it reprograms what the hair actually is internally.. Alright, you have curly hair.. This is crazy., I mean even before that cut it looks cool.. This is so crazy.. Now I'm gon na do a straight razor cut. On you. We talked about how your hair's really heavy.. This is gon na just lighten up the weight and get those curls to really sculpt in.. This is a totally modern take on the perm, so don't get it twisted.. These aren't your fried damaged, over-processed perms.. These are gon na, be moisture-rich. Look like natural curly. Hair.. Have you ever seen Legally Blonde, Do not wash your hair for two days. Scout's honor. Scout's honor.. Also the cool thing about the perm is that they last longer and look better the least amount of washing you do.. So I'm a mom of two girls and I understand the stress that we have. It's really important - that we don't just not do our hair, not look our best., It's important to seek out cuts, styles that are going to support your lack of time to spend on Yourself and I think the perm really fits the bill for that. Alright., You ready, I don't know if I am. Yeah. Yeah Yes.. Ah I'm a cool mom You're, a cool mom.. Ah Oh man., I am so excited.. I was super shocked and so excited.. I haven't seen my hair like this, but I think it'll be a little more intense in a few days when I've washed it and it's still there. Just a cool mom., Just a cool mom., I'm just a really cool mom.. I love it.. I love it. Aww. I'M so glad I could do this for you.. Thank you I feel now like I don't have to be scared.. jennition: I've had a 'modern perm'. It was THE most demanding thing I've ever done to my hair. The amount of conditioning is required to look good was ridiculous, and using a hairdryer was just out of the question unless I wanted to look like a poodle. It was better after having it for like 2-3 months when it had gone down enough that the curls weren't as unmanageable. Just in case anyone watching this got inspired by the 'so easy, so fast' promises. It's not like that for everyone.

It requires keeping it very healthy and caring for it in a completely different way than straight hair. It’s taken me 20 years to figure out how to make my curly hair low maintenance. Corduroy: I went from pin straight hair (couldn’t even hold a curl) to a perm with tighter curls than hers. It’s HARD to take care of. My hair is currently phasing out the curls (between wavy-straight) and I chopped it off shoulder length to help grow it out faster. I think curls look beautiful and I’m glad I tried it out but it’s a lot of work! Hope she realized that lol. Definitely not your typical shampoo and conditioner and boom done!

Andrei D.: Everyone, please keep in mind we don't know the backstory. Me and my wife have a 1 y.o. girl. My wife has lost both her mother and her younger brother in two different car accidents during her childhood. The trauma really manifests in the way she handles our baby girl: she's constantly watching her, making sure she doesn't touch anything even remotely dangerous, she's by her side while she sleeps and so on. She literally is the type of mother who can't even brush her hair out of fear of what could haplen to our kid. This is in no way an easy home situation, but my point is there can be strong reasons behind a mother not having even a free minute while raising a child. Just telling her: "Girl, relax, it's just a child. Let her play and do your thing" doesn't work. Trust me, I tried, my father in law tried, my wife's therapist tried. Not that simple. So if her hair is where she thinks she can make her daily life easier, she should go for it.
