Summary:

Gemma shows you classy hairstyles for classy ladies. Fashion for ladies over 40

Hi everyone looking classy and elegant isn't all about what we're wearing, but it's how we put it all together and how we wear and style our hair is a real key part to achieving that. Look in today's video I've got some really classy, elegant beautiful hair styles. To show you from short, mid length through to long length as well and hopefully to suit a broad spectrum of age ranges as well. One thing you will notice from all the looks: I'm going to show you today that all these ladies hair is in really great condition, and that really is the key to getting that classy. Look to try and get your hair in the best condition. It can possibly be you'll also notice that they all have really fabulous hair color as well, so it's always best to go to the best colorist that your budget can afford. So I think what we'll do is we'll start with long length. Now Penelope Cruz wears her hair at a really beautiful length, she's a lady in her 40s, but she still gets away with wearing her hair at a longer length. Hey she's, just gently swept it to the side, but keeping it so simple looks really elegant and you can see the highlights and colors that she's got in her hair here. That looks really classy. This lady also wears her hair are very similar length to Penelope Cruz. Just brushed behind onee swept round to the side. It'S very simple, but really very elegant. Kate Middleton also wears a head very similar to this. She adds more curls to hers and wears it a slightly longer length, but it still looks very chic, very elegant, a very classy Julianne Moore has really beautiful hair, I think, and for a lady who's now in her 50s. I think she looks absolutely fantastic. This picture is from her in 2013, so it's a few years old. Now since then, she's gone a little bit shorter and she's added some beachy waves. This looks, suits Julianne so much, and if you wanted to wear your hair a little bit longer and keep it really modern and youthful, then this is a really great style to go for. Melania Trump has a really great hairstyle. She wears it long with layers around the front, but she's got really great color. If you wanted to wear your hair longer, then this is a really great style to wear the layers around the front. Don'T draw your face down and so don't AG quite so much. I love this look on Jessica, Biel, the colors in her hair look really classy and it suits her so much and here she's, just added some ways, which also looks really great on her kate beckinsale is a lady in her forties, but she looks absolutely amazing. She can be seen quite often wearing her hair back in a ponytail. Again, not everybody suits, or is that comfortable wearing their hair back in a ponytail? It really suits her and their face shape and, although you think about pulling the hair back can actually look, quite aging can actually have the opposite effect. By pulling the skin back and giving you a little mini facelift. I love how Jacqueline Smith and also Christie Brinkley wear their hair. Here, they've got length to it, but the rules have got some really soft layers put in as well and again. They'Ve both got great colors. I just wanted to show you these looks all slightly longer, but all these ladies have layers in their hair, fantastic colors again it may just give you some inspiration on how you could style or change your hair. Now, if you wanted to go a little bit shorter, a classic bob is very classy and very chic. The key is to get the right length to suit your face shape. You could keep it very classic with a blunt cut or have it textured at the ends. Add a sweeping fringe, adding waves, looks really classy and can really change your look if you first wearing it a different way. Not everybody suits the middle parting and not everybody's comfortable without a fringe wearing it on a side parting. It was very elegant or getting some very gentle layers at the front also looks really nice as well taking inspiration from Rosie huntington-whiteley her hair, I think always looks absolutely amazing here. She'S kept it straight and swept over to the side. She'S got great color and it looks super shiny and here she's wearing in the middle, with some textured waves. If he wanted to go shorter still, you could still wear it in a bob style. You could graduate it, so it sweeps forward at the front these styles that really sleek and elegant. I personally don't like wearing fringes. I'Ve tried them many times over the years and cuz. I have frizzy hair, they just always pick up, and so it just always looks horrible, but I do really love them. Other people having a sweeping fringe isn't as harsh as having a blunt cut, especially as you get older and also hive, so the dreaded wrinkles that might be underneath there and some people just don't like showing their forehead. So these styles may suit you now, if you wanted to go shorter, these Styles look very classy and very elegant. These looks really suit these ladies and give them an air of sophistication. Do you wear your hair short mid length or long length? Let me know in the comments box below and let me know what your favorite classy look and hair starwars, that I showed you

The Midlife Gallivanters: I wear mine mid-length, but mine is naturally curly, which I started to embrace about 11 years ago. It's done wonders for the health of my hair, to not heat style it. It's become curlier as the new, virgin hair has grown. I don't ever look polished, but I know that it's in the best health it's ever been, and for me, that's far more important. Whenever I colour it, about every 6-8 weeks, the hair stylist will heat style it and I must say, I try not to wash it for 3-4 days after, as it looks so fab, but for the most part, it's curly and wild - and I love it xo

Sylvia Asare: I've recently subscribed to your channel. I love the 5 min updates, how thorough and up to date, you are on the styles for women over 40. I am a woman of color and wanted to know if you consider colors and hairstyles for darker skin. Hope to hear your thoughts.

Anna Maria Lassen: Gemma, this was a really refreshing take on mature women and hair style. Way too many style youtubers claim 50+ women shouldn't have long hair. I don't think short hair or a bob become me, so why shouldn't I hold on to my long hair - as long as I keep it nice and well "maintnanced"? So thank you for this input.

Jane Friel: Hi Gemma,I'm so glad you are branching out You have much more to offer I always say that grooming is much more important than any other aspect of appearance.I admire any woman who keeps herself well. Its not about, weight, labels, prices It's all about having time for ourselves and taking time to look our best version of "you".

Kay Goetz: Some of us have curly hair. All of the examples you gave were straight hair; not one example of someone with natural curly hair!

Sharon Woryn: So glad you mentioned that the hairstyle must enhance your face shape. I have a great angled short bob. Any time my hair gets a bit long, it ages me a lot. I must get it colored and cut every 4 weeks.

XKE Fan: I am 69, since 1970’s (kids) have had short hair, but with pandemic have grown it out. While its difficult to get used to long hair I have enjoyed the versatility of wearing it up in ponytail or sloppy bun (still can’t get used to hair down) or wear down at times. It will eventually go shorter but for time being I am enjoying the change.

Jennifer Rogerson: I'm 39, and I have longer hair that goes past my shoulders. I color it a bright red. I do leave my hair down, but mostly it's up in a ponytail or a bun. I like to go with a slicked back aides and tousled puffed top for volume. When I have my hair down its normally curled with soft light curls.

Nishata: Very interesting! I do think armpit length hair or shorter is rather complimentary for women of a certain age. With that said, I did not see much diversity of the women portrayed in this video. I also did not see much diversity in the hair type or texture. It is a safe bet that based on you channel platform, there are all sorts of women who have interests in the topics that you showcase. Perhaps widen your perspective to be a bit more inclusive of the pictures that you display in the videos so that we women can feel represented. Thank you for the content you bring.

Lindsay McPupps: My hair is long, and one length. Always had long hair, apart from a bob about 20 yrs ago, was too much trouble. I look like a 70s wrestler wearing a ponytail I'm 57 in October and no plans for having it cut. Great Vid x

Gwen: Love your hair style. Great styles in the video too.

Deborah Streb: I have thick naturally wavy hair a little past my shoulders and in the summer, with humidity, it can get rather curly. Sometimes I just let it go and sometimes I straighten it. Depends on what I’m wearing, my mood, the weather, etc. I like the fact that I have so many choices. I must say that people comment that I look younger when I straighten it.

Jane Friel: My hair is long and coloured blonde.I was fair as a child and I'm a "Summer" so it works.I kept my hair very short in the 80's and 90s so its in good condition and full.I only have it coloured four times s year and always professionally.I never colour my own hair I have it trimmed every second colour.Hair and skin are my first priorities.Im 56.

Soraya Silvestri Artist: I have short hair, that frizzes with humidity. I’ve always longed for long straight hair, but that will never happen. Oh well, do the best with what you have.

Bridgit Houghton: Great video, I'm clinging onto my long hair as long as possible and I don't want to lighten either!

G: I currently have waist length hair at 49 however I have had it as short as to my ears. I prefer the longer style though.

RecruitingMaven: I keep mine long because I have wavy hair and short hair is simply too time consuming to take care of. Even at my age people complement my very very long hair. I know at my age it’s not the norm but I like it and it’s easy to take care of.

Tamra Bentley: I’m 46 and I wear my hair long and blonde In my opinion long hair is best it is classy and sexy chic

dizzydazl: I wear my hair at a medium length that falls between my shoulders and bra strap. Unfortunately my hair is thinning and I think it's more obvious with longer hair. I'm considering getting it cut to a lob but that I've never liked how I look with short hair so I keep putting it off. I wonder how people manage their color once they are getting really gray - is it harder to have those natural looking highlights??

Andrea Pirringer: I also have this average hair length, but I do not know if I should wear center parting or side parting. I think from the age of 40 side parting looks more elegant ...

GL Gardener: I have straight hair and wear a pixie with full bang. Love the look. I do not look good in longer hair. Love the classic sleek bob.

Joanne Rowan: It was very nice, and appropriate to mention Melania Trump - she always looks great. There weren't any like real short hairstyles? Your vids are very helpful and budget conscious. thanks.

Joan: I get very frustrated when I hear remarks that make age seem to be a milestone in a woman’s life. I am nearly 76 years old and dress according to what I am doing, not what someone else thinks I should or shouldn’t be or wear. You can be poor and old but you can always be clean, well pressed and glowing with health. Walk, walk walk everywhere if you can. Eat veg and fresh fruit. You can buy 6 carrots for 50p, make purée, add pepper or butter, or both. Steam your veg if you can. Any veg will do. Make fruit salad for three days, not longer but add banana on the day.. All those cereals, in the bin with them, only eat oats raw, weetabix , or shredded wheat . Meat not often, fish often. You can wear any style, clothing or hair but it must be with a smile. Make the world and your life your own, and if you don’t have good health just have the real you anyway. That is worth many smiles.

Elise Houde: Going on 59 and tried to grow it out to the shoulders... It pulls my face down and it's straight so à lot of work to maintain.... Going back to have it cut tomorrow in a shorter bob..... Having a bad hair today... Lol

Claudia coy: You completely left out different textured hair. Not everyone has straight hair.

Tamra Bentley: I believe your hair is your crown in glory

Alpha Fé: ❣️❣️❣️

Artist , Illustrator Teacher, Author: What about curly hair?

Norma Gonzalez: And the curly hair?

Madiya Kmtwo: Is fake red hair ( like mine on the picture ) not elegant? It’s more of a burgundy

Andreia Bergamaschi: Don’t like long hair for real older women ...women in magazines are something else... just my opinion

Anne Smith: Long length Christie Brinkley

anasky00: I loved your suggestions and how to style your hair elegantly.. But just have to say, wish you hadn't mentioned Melania Trump... Don't think she qualifies as elegant at all..

Angie Rose: I dont like that you didnt include natural black curls. Theres some really elegant natural styles... it gives the assumption that black people cant be elegant and that's just not true..
