Okay, we're moving into summer. You can't tell by this because it's raining, but i'm in the pacific northwest, so it rains here all year round anyway. So, nonetheless, for most of you, you already heading into sunny weather, and that means that there's going to be some summer trends, some hair trends and i'm going to share today with you, my favorite trends. But more importantly, i'm going to share my favorite trends and maybe some things that you need to think about before you decide to dive all in on them. How does that sound right? Well, with that said, uh, let's go get rained on, oh, oh, and by the way uh. If you're new to me thanks for hanging out, my name is justin. Hickox i've been doing hair since 1995, so hashtag, i'm old and yeah. So on this channel i share hair tips. I usually say i teach you about hair while i take on adventures and also huge shout out to skillshare for sponsoring this video there'll be more on that later, so for now dive into trends. Okay, the first big trend that i love for this summer is curtin banks. Now curtin bangs have been around for a while they're, not brand new, but they're, also, probably not going anywhere, if you're unfamiliar with what they are. It'S basically a scenario where you put your hair down the center and you cut longer bangs, so think something that breaks about at your cheekbone structure and then those bangs aren't straight across they're a little bit more angular. They kind of blend in and really it's kind of, a throwback to the old, fair faucet. Look. I really like these for a couple of reasons. First of all, if you have never had bangs in the past, or maybe you've got more one-length, hair and you're just trying to do something different, but you're, not quite sure you want to really step into bangs well, this is a great opportunity for you, because they're Light bangs, but they don't marry you to having a strong bang across your forehead that can become a nightmare to grow out. If, for some reason you decide you don't want them, i also like them because they're a great way to accentuate cheek structure because they usually cut right at the cheek or start right at the cheekbone. It draws a nice emphasis to your cheekbones now some things to think about who are they for maybe who are they not for if you're somebody that's got a little bit of a longer face and you're trying to add a little bit more width. These are also an option mainly because you're gon na be parting it down the center and many times parting it down. The center is going to help create more volume on the sides, which can help create more width in your face to that flip side. If you're a person, that's got a very round face and you're trying to maybe elongate it a bit. This may or may not work well for you, not necessarily because of where the bangs hit, but, more importantly, because of the fact that they do require that center part and in your scenario, you might want to create a little bit more volume on the top. So you can help elongate your face, which case the center part really makes that a hard thing to do. You also may want to keep in mind that, if you're a person that's constantly bending over, for maybe your work or for what you do as a hobby - and you don't like hair falling in your face these because of their length being at the cheekbone, are likely To fall directly in your eyes, and it may be hard for you to get them out of your face without bobby pins or depending on your hairline, and your bone structure, maybe being able to tuck those behind your ears or just using a ton of hairspray. To get them to stay back off your face, so that is something that you definitely minimum want to think about as well. Now, let's move on to my next favorite trend, but before we do that, can we talk about this for five seconds? I'M not saying it's a view, but it's a view. Okay, so my next trend that i love for summer is the shag. Now, one of the reasons i love the shag is because it's got definitely a very strong rock edge to it, but it's not so rocker that it really kind of pushes out a large part of the population that may want to try it now. Another reason that i love it is for people with wavy, thick or curly hair, because it has so much layering on the sides. It does a really good job of alleviating bulk from the sides. You also want to think about the fact that if you've got a very full face and you go for a strong bang you're trying to create some more length in your face - shape to alleviate some of that fullness, then a stronger bang is going to accentuate the Fullness, it's going to work completely against you, so that's also something that you want to pay attention to. Even with all of that said, i still love the overall shape. I love the movement. I love the texture and i love that kind of rock star flair. Like i said before, without having to be super rockstar now i also got to say that, as beautiful as it is to be out here, um i'll tell you audio is rough. I'Ve actually had to come back into the back of the forest here to get away from the stream. So you don't hear a bunch of stuff in the background, but with that said, it's kind of the perfect segue into talking about today's sponsor, because i'm going to be using skillshare later to learn all about how to try to cut the background noise out of the Audio on this, but if you're unaware of what skillshare is this is what it is. Skillshare is an online learning community, with thousands of inspiring classes for creators. It'S like the best place to explore new skills deep and existing passions or just flat out get lost in creativity altogether. Now one of my favorite things about it is the fact that it's actually curated for learning. That means that there's zero ads, so you can stay 100 focused and follow wherever your creativity is taking. You and they're always launching new premium classes like right now, i'm going through ryan booth's class diy cinematography make your video look like a movie, because if you watch my videos, you know i try my hardest to not just sit in front of a ring light and Do a video i want to add that cinematic flair to separate myself from all the other beauty, videos, i've already learned a ton about lighting and how to use natural light from this class, and i cannot wait to go through the rest of it. But the awesome thing is: there's tons of other classes. I really want to take that have nothing to do with videography. For instance, this one right here style your space, creative tips and techniques for interior design by emily, henderson or another. One i'm excited for is discovering success. Seven exercises to uncover your purpose, passion and path by emma gannon. Now, if you know me, you know, i don't do any sponsorships of anything that i don't one use and don't to absolutely love. I hadn't used skillshare before i hadn't even been on the platform, so i had to go through it a little bit to really decide whether or not i think it would be good for you, and i love it at least the classes that i've gone through. So far, they have very short videos. So for me, even in between a busy schedule, i have the opportunity to go through a video, learn something and not feel overwhelmed by the amount of time or having to come back to a 40-minute video that i have to re-watch, because i've forgotten what they were Talking about so to me, it's like the perfect on-the-go, learn something quick and then be out. If you want to learn more about it, there is a link in the description check it out the first thousand of my subscribers that click on that are actually going to get hooked up by skillshare with a one month, free trial to their premium membership. So yeah you're definitely going to want to look at that. It'S cool stuff get your creativity on all right and while we're talking about that, let's get back to the next trend: okay, the next style or trend. I guess that i love is the pixie cut. Now the reason i love the pixi is this particular pixie nowadays really can be done anyway. Part of the reason i love it is because there are so many options. The other thing i love about him is because i feel personally like going short like that. Really screams a certain amount of confidence, that's not to say that if you've got longer hair, you somehow lack confidence or look like you lack confidence, but i do feel like there's an air of free. If you will, that goes along with being able to go short. Hair, not everybody feels comfortable enough to have or wear short hair. So i like it for that reason alone. I also love the fact that you really can mold this around face shapes if you've got a little bit more of a full face or round face you're going to want to create more volume on the top and have less bulk on the sides. On the other hand, if you've got a longer face, you can have a little bit more volume on the sides and help to create a little bit more of that width. So, there's a lot of options with the way you work, with your face, shape when you're cutting shape into it on short hair. Oh my gosh, this log is killing my yeah, but anyway, i'm gon na work through this, so that i can tell you about this. Next trend, which i love and that is edgy color now ombre has been around for a long time. It'S been very popular and i still love the look, but if we look at what makes ombre color popular a large part of that is because it has a very natural element to it. It looks very kind of like sun kissed if you will so with that said, i think that's what draws me to the idea of funky edgy crazy colors. That kind of natural look has been so popular for so long. That kind of going the other direction and making it almost very unnatural to me is appealing it's kind of like all right. Let'S move in another direction now. I also think that there's an error of at a certain point in our lives, we get to a place where we feel that we can't wear crazy colors, and i completely disagree in fact uh. This is my mom, i'm not going to say her age, because i don't want to get punched when i get to work tomorrow. But yes, that is not natural color and i love it and she rocks it and she gets comments on it all the time hey. There is no age or specific time in her life, where we need to step away for anything other than when we want to step away from anything. If you feel the necessity or the desire to rock blue hair purple hair or whatever color it may be, i think that you should do that. You should absolutely rock that hair and be confident in it, and you know what it's going to look amazing on you, because of that, and that to me is part of why i love this trend. I love the fact that it actually is a trend, and hopefully it will open up the door for people to really get on board and try something. Maybe you haven't tried. So those are my favorite trends right now, i'm curious to know what you think are you gon na try any of them. Let me know below and otherwise uh it's starting to rain. So i'm gon na head back towards the car and uh yeah. You have a fantastic day, go ahead and watch this video right here. So you learn some cool stuff. Make sure you hit subscribe button. So you don't miss every tuesday. When i bring out a brand new video and uh. We will see you next tuesday. Have a great one take care now, bye, sweat, oh boy,

Kathy Weston: You’re not old ! You’re fabulous

Vanessa Rongstad: Love that you posted this! I am 50 and have been wanting to do something dramatic from my waist length long almost one length hair. I got about 12 inches cut off and I’m just not satisfied. I’ve actually been entertaining a faux hawk and dramatic color like pink or purple mostly tiny and everyone is telling me no that I’m just going through a midlife crisis. I’m just wanting to do things that I’ve been too self conscious to do and now I’m at the age I don’t care I just want to do what I want to do. Been raising my children for over 30 years since I was 17. So why the hell not do what the hell I want? I just need to be sure whoever does it understands and can execute what I’m looking for.

Becky: Love your great ideas, especially the freedom you encourage us older folks to express!

Kristi1 Lehman: Thanks for justifying the pixie bob I just got. I thought my stylist was going to have a heart attack as she cut off a foot of hair. But I feel like a new woman!

Madeleine Marsh: I love your tips Justin. Your videos have definitely made me more confident when seeing my hairstylist. Thank you.

Ana Kandri: Justin, you are a lifesaver! I stayed away from hair saloons for sooo long as I usually do not get understood by the stylist. Now it is all clear to me and now I know what I want. I am a teacher myself and doing technical stuff and empowering women like you are doing, is simply magic! You have my respect and eternal gratitude.

Kathryn Terlikowski: Loved this video and thank you for the the free month of SkillShare! New things to explore and always enjoy how you explain hairstyles for face types as well as your tips ♥️.

Cathy Maas: Great advice, Justin! I’m a new subscriber and on the fence with going short from shoulder length and I keep using my age as an excuse now. Bugs me! I’m getting so much inspiration from your videos! Thank you

Elaine Mullins: Every time I see Sharon's hair I absolutely love it! Would love to see a video of how you cut, color, and style it. I have seen the style video, but would like to see more, she gets her hair to look so thick.

LagunaGrl2: I’m excited now to finally try the curtain bang!! ‍♀️Thanks for that encouragement to step out of my comfort zone! I hope you enjoyed Seattle while you were here! (I live in the Seattle area)

Linda Marocco: Great video, Justin!!!… love your opinion and ideas in this video!!!… good to see you!!!… lots of love and appreciation!!!!

Jacqueline Aulet: This is my first comment. Even when I've been a fan since long ago. I just had to say how much I appreciate your channel. And how much I have learned from your teachings. Your journeys through nature are so beautiful. I want to thank you for making us learn so much so easy and so smoothly. And for putting a smile on our hearts everytime.

Gabi Soares: Awesome video Justin! I have the exact opposite opinion about curtain fringes! I find they are too elongating for long faces and perfect for round faces since they drag the eye down with the middle part. So funny! I love the idea of a pixie. I find them SO sexy. I wish I had the confidence to just go for it.

Andrea Yanochko: Your videos give me confidence on what to tell my stylist. Thank you.

Javajunkie1: You and your Mom are an inspiration to do something trendy on my bob! Shag with some vibrant purple hue

Dr. Fitbones: I have found my perfect hair cut using your videos thankyou .

Theresa Scholtz: Hi Justin, I’d like to know your opinion on the “crazy” colour trend, specifically whether you agree or disagree that a person should not try this trend, if it may be perceived as making a person look “unprofessional” in certain workplaces/environments, especially if a person is client facing.

Dawn Liphard: I love curtain bamgs and I rocked a shag in well..anyway I really love the non hair color colors. Unfortunately I have med/dark brown hair and am against bleaching my hair( ive tried it on the ends didn't go well )lost at least 5ins of length to cut it back to "healthy" hair.

alexa ivoire: Go for the color! I so regret giving up my teal blue hair!!

Kerfuffle: Fantastic content! . Really enjoyed your insight on the summer trends. ☺️

Mary McKay: I want to try a maroon over my med brown hair ( no bleach). Tried it over the weekend and it only stuck to the roots. Let me tell you the grey hairs are quite purple! I will ask my hairdresser to do it next time.

Love's Child: Love the layers and colour. Great ideas now summer is coming in the Southern Hemisphere

Susan Slattery: Like 20 years ago now I chopped my hair into an edgy pixie and kept it that way for 14 years. During those 14 years I received at least one compliment on my hair daily. I'm not kidding. Pimply faced teenagers, small children, old men, young women, middle agers and younger men. About 6 years ago I decided to let it grow back out, mainly because I have a big hat collection that collected dust during my short hair years. Now I'm addicted to hats. Been coloring it one way or another all this time too, first with henna, and then as it grew out, with chemical color. When the pandemic hit and the salon closed, I just said, Hell, never a better time to see what's going on. I'm 57. I was a goldish blonde in my youth. Now my roots are dirty dishwater "blonde" I guess, with not as much white and silver as I expected. My stylist tells me the nape of my neck looks "ashy" which she said meant it would be gray. Well. Good thing I love hats. Put them on in the morning and don't remove them until I do my night time skincare. It's not quite half dark red/half natural yet. Still have more red, but probably by next April we'll cut the last of it off. I told her, I'm not opposed to highlights or temporary colors, but it must go into a pony tail and work with all my hats.

Samantha Gruwell: Blue & Silver.... it looked amazing. I'm about to do it again, now that I've bleached out my hair, starting with a lighter version of platinum. I'm 61

Tamara Morton: I mentioned this before but I love your videos being filmed outdoors. I didn’t know you were in the pacific northwest but that’s my very favorite part of the country, too! I also enjoyed hearing the sounds of the streams in the background. FYI. Now, if you’ll just start showing videos of long haired styles, I’d be thrilled. I am 66 years old and I’ve been growing my hair out for a couple of years, with occasional trimmings, of course. I really like it. I started doing it because I live in the deep south and it’s so freaking hot down here nine months out of the year, I wanted to figure out some more creative ways of wearing my hair up.

Jen M: Totally considering a pixie cut. My husband is nervous about short hair so I'm considering trying one with a long front, but not so long it makes my square face look wider...

Grammi Gram: Thanks so much for your videos! I’ve learned a lot from you!

Jean McRae: I love a short style, as short as I can go without shaving my head bold. But, i do like a full top and closer to the sides. My hair is a grey color, salt and pepper, but I would like a more silver color, rather than a darker color. What do you recommend?

Julie Petersen: I love the crazy colors, but my job won’t allow “unnatural hair colors,” so it’ll have to wait for now!

Meechie Baby: I'm from Seattle and now live in PA. The humidity and rain in both areas made/makes it very difficult to keep my tailbone-long hair from frizzing. Lol! Thanks for this!

Tomar Crauswell: I rocked a pixie for 3 years and I loved it!

Judie Woodward: Another great adventure. The great tips are always on spot.Thanks.

Jessica Nelson: You are absolutely amazing :) very refreshing to come across a guy like you. So on point with all you know!

Jana's Space: Hi Dear Justin..how great you warned people of thinking bangs through....so true....your videos stand out....I truly enjoy them and learn a lot....you are my Hair Skill Share!!!!!!!! Jana

Debbie Bendzel: Thanks Justin for the great information. Love the scenery.

Veronica Jordan: I loved the idea of curtain bangs as I wear a center part. Then you mentioned it "in your face" and I hate, Hate, HATE...my hair in my face/eyes. I do like the shag but with my fine, straight hair, that is so not happening. I am going to share the shag idea with my co-worker who I think would rock it.

sherie light: Interesting ideas!! Your mom rocks!! Blessings.

mari A.: I love the pixie cuts! I am in South Florida and it's always Hot here

Dorina Tudisco: Hi can curtain bangs be done with a side part? Thanks great video!

Stephanie Watson: I've worn all of these looks, pixie, shag, curtain bangs and bold colours but now I am interested in becoming a silver fox but not sure how to make this happen. I love some of the silver and platinum hair colours but how do I know which to go for and what to look for when asking for these colours?

Susan Chaney: I love the shag haircuts you showed...I'm tempted (even at 72) but I live in Portland and what happens in the winter? If it gets wet it'll turn to frizz??

Catherine Cox: I love these trend videos.

Dawn Griffiths: Lol Shag! In the UK that means nookie ! We call it choppy layers, if I went to a hair salon and asked for a shag, they'd probably call the police lol I had this hair style about 2 months ago, with a curtain fringe, I've straight think hair and I just use a diffuser to give it some texture, I'm 58 and love it xx

LeeAnn Kingsbury: I'm old as dirt! I graduated high school in 1995! Love your videos!

Jane Caccioppo: That pixie cut is awesome!

Southern HotMess: Your mom is beautiful. I’m going to look into SkillShare. I’m ADHD so long classes don’t work for me.

Laurel B: Your videos are sooooo good ✨✨

jill flippin: Love these... Do curtain bangs work if you park on the side?

Linda Marocco: You are learning more cinematic experience!!!!can’t wait to see!!!

galecrafts - ( The Happy Stamper ): Ooohhh how I wish you you were located in Chicago *sigh*... I too LOVE the Shag cut and have been considering to go for the Pixie cut. However, this momma is a total round face and my stylist was super hesitant. Finding someone who can do a Pixie and do it well is so important and I have my eye out for anyone I see who is rockin' one. In the meantime I'll just hope that you come to Chicago for all your midwest fans out here! Thanks for sharing, Gale :)

V link: Great tips…again!

Susan Slattery: Also not into bangs or anything even close to that since I can't stand having my hair fall into my face. Pony in bed, pony when awake. Hats make it look okay during the day.

Dee Cobb: Depending on our personality. I want a hairstyle that is right for me. A couple yrs ago my hair just was way way too curly. While some love that? Short hair i looked like a Q tip. Longer hair i NEVER WEAR DOWN!! RECENRLY I AM COPING A FRIEND AND HAVE LET MY HAIR GROW. While those w long hair can wear their hair multiple ways. What I need is my unpredictable hair. I wear hair now in messy bun or updo. My hair is less curly when long for summer. I wore hair short for a few yrs, and loved it. I am practicle, dont like a lot of hair moments in bathroom. My hair changes w weather every dang day!! Ideas?

Selma Harwell: Not been brave enough to do pink in my hair or best way to add it in. Missed couple videos birthdays vacation (really just spent it cleaning and redoing house) Ol

Bev Kelly: I have really thick curly hair I’m gonna try the Shag again!!

CJ CJ: Love you do your videos in our awesome PNW!

Denice Rheeder: How far out are you booked? Do you even take new clients? I moved to Arizona 3 years ago from Portland and still haven't found someone I trust to cut AND style my hair :( I was thinking that maybe when I come to visit my kids in Portland that I could get my hair done by you.....

Peggy Fisher: Love you! But in all the time I have been a fan you have not addressed 62 year olds with thinning hair and a round/full face. If I missed one please tell me which one I missed.

77Tadams: I like the lavender hair....but if I get sick of it....hard transition back...

Bisexualstruggles _of_spn: I reeeeeaaaally want to cut my hair, like just all of it. It's 31 inches long and just a huge pain right now. It's very thick which is awful in this heat. Even when i braid it, it's just like a burning hot blanket over my scalp. It's also VERY damaged from box dye i have a round face and as such i have always heard that i have to cut my hair in ways to "hide" my face shape. Do you have any short hairstyles that would compliment it instead? I'm thinking short-short. I literally have to push away the urge to just shave it all off on the daily at this point

Glenna Thompson: I love your tips and would love for you to update my look. Where are you located in the NE?

Corinne Burque: Great video… it’s finally sunny in PNW!!!

Anne Marie leopaldi:

tiffany M: You must be on the west side of the PNW It’s in the 90’s here in Eastern WA☀️

iwonainoz:

ZsaZsa K: There’s stylists have no idea how to cut a shag

ome emo: wtf women do not need a man critiquing their hair we use each other for our own ideas
