Hello, ladies fresh rat, right out of the shower, I am going to do a curly hair tutorial for you today, I'm going to show you what God gave me as little curls start to make their way in. But let me do say that curly natural hair isn't just about letting it air dry and walking out and calling it a day. No, no, no, because you run the risk of looking like a used-up brillo pad, and nobody wants that. It does take some work. It takes product and a little bit of styling technique and I'm going to show you that as I let the hair dry a little bit more. But first let me walk you through some of the products that I've used thus far before I even washed my hair. Today I used living proof timeless pre shampoo treatment, and it is a moisturizer for your hair that you put in dry before you get into the shower. This is something you can put on a few minutes before the shower or, if you like, leave it on when you sleep, but it locks in moisture and that's the trick with curly hair to prevent it from looking too frizzy is to really seal in some moisture. I then followed up with living proofs for his line, both the shampoo and the conditioner to wash with, and now I'm literally just wet I've put no product in the two things that I will use the got to be fantastic naturally, because I still want volume. So I will load up some mousse in my hand about that. Much take it through and just start scrunching root to end, because I want volume everywhere, but the trick is is that you still want to get some nice lifts at your root line as well, because curls can make hair a little flat and then poofy out to The side, so this product will most certainly help and I will chase it with frizz ease and I love to be able to show you products that you can get in the drugstore. You don't have to spend a lot to look like you've spent a lot frizzies. The original is great for taming the frizz I'm going to use my hair short, maybe about a pump and a half, that's it, and this I'm going to concentrate at my ends, because I don't want it to weigh my hair down. I also tend to frizz more along my hairline up front: that's usually how it works, so I will concentrate a lot of this product around my face and mainly the ends and then work that, through in the leftover, just sort of bring it to the back. Now what I will do is allow my hair to air dry, while I put on my makeup today and something that you can do is to start with the process. So deciding on how you want your hair to look and in what direction you want the curl to go, you can start to work with it. So, for instance, I like to kick the back of my hair up. Normally it's slick along my nape, but in this case I want the volume along the back, so I may take my hair and just start scrunching it like this and pulling it out. I may want a little bit of a lift right up front, so I can do that and then, depending on how I want curls to come in, you can take your hands and just twirl in some areas to bind the hair together and get some of the Direction going while you let your hair air-dry and carry on to other things and in my case it's going to be applying makeup, so I'm going to leave it as is let it dry. I will be probably halfway dry by the time. I finish my makeup and then the rest. I will do with a blow-dryer and yes, a curling iron. I will use my regular blow-dryer. I have a diffuser, but unfortunately the opening here does not fit my dryer. This was from another dryer, and yet I held on to it why I don't know so I will take my Elgin. Remove this go on a low heat, keep it farther away from my hair, and that way it has more of a diffusing effect. I also have a Hot Tools: curling iron ceramic one and one quarter inch barrel and that's going to be used on areas that may not curl as well or may not be going in the direction that I like. So you can chase it with a curling iron to finish off the look and make it a little bit more polished. But in the meantime let me apply the makeup and I will see you in about a few seconds thanks to the process of editing. Okay, I am back, and now, for the first time you are truly seeing what God gave me see and in all of those straight hair tutorials. You clearly see what I'm fighting here, which I'm hoping leads you to believe that anything is possible, no matter your hair type, but I am you know I would say about 70 % dry. I have a little bit of dampness in the root and that's about it. At this point, so now it's time to assess okay, so it's it gets a little crazy up top. My tightest curl tends to be around my face and it also gets frizzy err around the face, even with product there's still going to be some element of frizz. It'S just more contained so at this point I'm going to decide what it is that I want to do and I'm actually going to wear my hair curly today for work, but it needs to be a way smoother type of a curl with less frizz a little Bit more contained, but still keeping the curl intact and in fact, I'm really more focused on root direction and root. Lift at this point I, like volume up in here, not so big out to the side. It just seems to shoot to suit the shorter hairstyle. So I'm going to help enhance that by kicking in some height here at the root smoothing out some of this top layer, and I'm going to do it two ways. First of all, I have a barrel brush that has metal which and the bristles are not tight at all. So this is going to allow the hair and I'm going to curl it around this brush and heat it. It'S going to allow the hair to heat up curl around the brush and then I will release. I also have the hot tools one and one quarter inch barrel, and I can do it that way as well, but what I and I sometimes will follow up with that. But what I do like about this and the hairdryer is that it helps to get that volume at the root line that I really want to create. So my hair is already in the part - and I'm going just to take this section right here along my part line, and I know they say: don't brush out your curls, but again I'm wrapping this now around the brush here and I'm going to heat it up. So I'm hot put a low setting because I don't want to blow the rest of the hair all around, and so I'm just warming this up. It'S creating that route that lifts at the root and yet my hair is still going to curl around this brush. So it's going to lead to bigger curls instead of tighter curls. At this point, you can also decide if you want your curls to be really tight. If that's how your hair naturally dries, then you can get a tight barrel, curling iron and then just curl, the crazy ones around that curling iron to keep the curl size consistent. Okay! So now that I've done that, I'm going to hold it here and let it cool for a little bit and I will then spiral it around my mob, brushing it out. I'M just spiraling it same so now I've got a curl there, but it's a looser curl and not quite as tight. I'M going to do the same here again to get volume around this part line. I'M not pulling my hair through the brush at all. I'M literally curling my hair around the brush and getting lift at the crown, and I will primarily do this around the part line and then the rest of it like these little guys. I may want to use my curling iron for that. Okay, so just let it cool and then spiral it and release, and it's going to cool like that. I'M gon na do the same on this side and again let it sit and release it and keep the curl in place. So it cools that way. Having that mousse in your hair really helps during moments like these, when you're trying to create some volume, it's that product that will allow that lift to hold without the product, it's still going to fall a little flat, so product is definitely key. Okay and then also I have a - I get a flat spot back here so again, I want to do the same thing right here in the back and just create that direction, and that volume I said using a high heat, but I'm not pulling my hair, I'm Essentially, curling it around a brush, okay, and so, as I come in here and I see what's going on in here - it's a little bit thinner and more separated. So I may want chunkier sections, so I'm going to grab this one right here with all these crazies and I'm going to now use my curling iron for this, and I've decided that I want these to go back. So I'm going to use my curling iron. It'S on a almost the hottest setting and again it's ceramic, which is very important when you have color treated hair and especially highlights around the face that hair breaks, the quickest ceramic curling irons really help it. If you need to kick off the heat a little bit, you don't have to make it as hot for it to have the same effect, and so I'm creating lift right here at my scalp and I'm going to bend that around and spiral it through and again. It'S a little bit more of a controlled curl, so we're not really getting rid of our curl. We'Re just smoothing it out a bit. This hair is a little bit damp, so I'm first I want to decide what direction I want it to go in and it looks like it's bending forward a little bit, so I will do that. I'M not going to do my whole head. I'M really just concentrating on the area's around my face and my part line just to make it like. I said more contained these guys. I want to go back and I need some volume in here. So I'm going to use my brush just focusing on the root. There was a lot of curl in there, so it's going to hold on to it and these guys are coming forward. You can leave these alone again. It just depends on what your your goal is. You know I'm going to work today, so it can't be that crazy, but on days when I'm not working, I can let it just go nuts and it doesn't matter and then I would use a tighter curl, tighter barrel curling iron, to enhance the tight curls around. My face okay and it's looking like it's a lot: smoother, isn't it so I'm just going to assess a few little frizzies here that I'm gon na pull together. Okay, and at this point, you can just take your finger and then just very loosely pull it through and let your hands do all the styling blend them twist them integrate them with your own curl shake a little bit and, as you start getting things where you Like it, then you can start to spray and the key always is to spray from underneath and not on top. You don't want to weigh this down. That'S what spring here will do you want to get this up and lifted, and then you secure it by spraying. Here under the back side, and I'm still using the same one, Kendra volume 25 can't find anything better. I'Ve tried I've sampled and I keep coming back. Okay, so under we go see how I'm holding here and going under, and it's going to hold it exactly where I gripped it - volume up here and straighter down here and remember when I was pulling my ends out as it was air drying see it dried that Way otherwise this would have been too flat and I need the Elevation here to match the elevation that's going on here. So all of that hand-coiling that you do in the beginning is very important in creating direction for your look. Alrighty, that's easy! You know in the beauty of this when you have natural curl and then you use products and a little bit of heat to help your own curl. It really locks it in and this will stay. I will look like this for the rest of the day tonight when I wake up tomorrow. It will still look like this, so that is one major upside of having naturally curly hair. Is that when you let it go curly and you enhance those curls, it really locks it in and keeps it in place. So I'm going to get dressed for work and then I'll show you the final look and we are all done. Let me turn around, so you can see, as you can tell not as kinky and curly up front still curly, but that's what the heat does with that brush and the curling iron is. It contains the frizz and then it lets you decide how big and how tight you want. Your curls to be, depending on how curly your hair is, and what type of look that you're going for. But the thing that I love about this is that, for the most part, your hair is air drying, it's very healthy for your hair, and it's only just in that last. You know 25 percent of drawing that needs to be done, where you're actually doing some enhancing to your route line, taking some of the frizz out combining the hair to make the curls thicker - and I really just finessing it, but there you go. This is easy. This is going to stay and stay and stay. I won't have to mess with it until I wash again, which will be in a few days, but I hope you found this helpful and you got to see natural. What I have, and, and just how great it is to be able to enjoy your curl, don't hate it sure you can straighten it and enjoy a lot of the straight trends, but you can also enjoy the curly trends to celebrate that celebrate what God gave you And let's make the most of what we have while we try to enhance what we done. Michele Sleet: Dominique how do you manage to be so amazing? When I grow up I definitely want to be you! This may be your best tutorial yet and from a natural curly girl so appreciate your style!

Denise B: What I love about curly hair is that we have the best of both worlds we can blow it straight or leave it curly. My husband loves my curly hair . Great video.

Wavy Jenny: This one video alone is enough to make me subscribe to your channel! This is a perfect look for wavy/curly hair! I have never been able to blow-dry my hair straight: it takes too long and I end up with this thick, frizzy, immobile mess! I give up! So something which works WITH rather than against my natural curl has got to be an improvement. I am definitely trying this out the next time I wash my hair! Thank you so much

Terrie Allen: i love her tutorials. I've got natural wavy curly hair. This has helped her greatly..... thank you !

Denise Flynn: Love this look. Your hair looks beautiful curly.

Carol Cimarossa: Hello Dominique! I am a fairly new subscriber to your channel and have received so many ideas from watching your videos. I had to comment this video especially because I too am a a curly girl! I fought my curls most of my life until one day I just let it go and accepted what God gave me. The thing is, when I went "au naturel" I received so many compliments on my hair - who would have thought! I've learned a few more tricks working with curls, especially when it comes to using heat. So, thank you again Dominique and please continue with your wonderful videos. I love them all! God bless.

Sharon Wilson-Davis: Wow I have curly hair so this is very helpful indeed

Sandra Miller: Thanks for this video! Your hair looks fabulous like this!

Amy Cavedon: I love your technic!!! Just gotta try this!!, I will try it in the morning, and I'll send a completed pic too.. I have an asymmetrical bob now for a few months and looking to finally get low light put on this weekend ☺️ Omg girl. I absolutely love this soooooo much.

Julie Kostas: Fantastic natural hair tutorial! Also, great job on the upper body workout. Your arms are perfection. No matter what exercises I do I feel like I have chicken cutlet arms!

Sue Mueller: Ordered the mousse, hairspray and living proof amp per your recommendation. I have naturally wavy hair and the products are wonderful! I keep my hair short and sassy and I now have great control. My hair is also very thin (I am in my early 60s) and the mousse worked well.

Lisa Bagchi: So beautiful without all the makeup. Such a lovely, warm face. Gorgeous!
