Automated Hair Crimper! 80S Are Back?!

Automated HAIR CRIMPER! 80s are back?!

So I was sent this product and I decided to test it out. I'm not promoting this product in any way, and I honestly think this product is not even worth looking at for majority of the customers. I just thought I would have some fun with it and see what my hair looks like crimped. I have never done a full head, so this is my first. Let me know your thoughts! :)

Today we have another really interesting, hair tool on the market.. It'S a newer one.. This is the brand Ion and this is their automatic, crimping, hair iron. And this retails, for I think it's on sale right now for $ 41.99, but originally it's like $ 70 from Sally Beauty.. They did send this my way to test it. Out., I'm not being paid., I'm not forced to make this video whatsoever.. It'S just an interesting concept, an automatic hair crimper., The actual barrels they rotate. Kind of looks like a rotisserie in a way, but for your hair.. So, let's try it out., Let's see a good'before' just so we can see if it is going to create some type of volume towards the root towards the top of my head.. Let'S try this .... What is that You put the small section between the rotating barrel? You activate the rotating barrels by clamping the iron together, which I did then the iron will automatically pull the hair through but is ideally used gently and slowly help guide the hair through for better results.. So, okay, that's kind of what I was doing. But.. [ Andrey ], Aw you're going the wrong ... It's going in the wrong direction, sweetie. All right, so that was my error. User error.. I'M trying to see they don't really have any directions of how to make sure you hold it. Properly. Yeah, it doesn't even say., So it was my user error, but it does have to face.. This rotating part. It'S actually open to your --. No, it's not open. It'S clear and it's very hot. So be careful with that.. It has to be facing your scalp. It can't be at the top, like you guys, saw.. The brand logo has to be towards the bottom or facing your scalp. So please keep that in mind.. You know what I am gon na. Do my entire head. I'm actually curious to see what I'm gon na look like.. I need to bring out my big scrunchies to really give the'80s comeback. All right. Let'S time me, I wan na see how long this is gon na take to do. I'm gon na. Take bigger sections too, and I wan na see how it works. That is so satisfying. Wow, ( laughs, ) okay.. I am literally getting a kick out of this myself., I'm okay. Let'S just do this. It kinda sucks with bigger sections of hair, but you know what I don't: care. ( laughs, ) Yeah see it. Kinda misses a lot of the spots. If you go very big sections., So you have to go small sections, which is kind of a negative in my book., Not kind of it's a big negative. Because it goes fast. It has a hard time going through all the sections of hair. Wow this.. Ooh. Babe. Come feel this.. It feels like fake hair. [ Andrey ], Like doll's, hair yeah., But worse. (, laughs ). That is so weird.. I mean it definitely gives you a ton of extra texture. [ Andrey ] Yeah, it does. It's kinda creepy the way it comes. Out. ( laughs, ) The way the hair moves. It'S really cool.. I must give it credit and it's fast.. Is this satisfying to a lot of you. I hope so ,'cause, it's very satisfying to me.. How cool is that, though, ( laughs, ), [, Andrey ]? You look very ... What [ Andrey ], Wild., Wild, (, laughs, ), [, Andrey ], You look like a lioness., A lioness [ Andrey ] Yeah, that's what it is. Okay. [ Andrey ]. It seems like you, belong in a safari. Nice. I'll go on a safari. [ Andrey ]. The lions will probably hit on you. `` Who's. This, Who is this new female roaming around ?''? It'S like ``. Is this really my hair on my head right now? ?'', You know That kind of feeling All right we're already on eight minutes.. It would definitely be a lot faster if you could do bigger sections, but because it has a hard time going through the thick sections of hair. You see like it does not want to get it in; it only does the top and the bottom sections so those middle sections they're completely straight, so you have to do smaller sections at a time and that's kind of what's wasting a lot of the time.. We'Re already almost -- we're at nine minutes. And I still have a little bit of hair left to go. [ Andrey ], That'd, probably be an interesting party. Look for sure. Yeah.. I think this is definitely for parties. You know like if you're'80s style., [, Andrey ] Or any type of party. Or any kind of type of party, you could definitely come with this type of hair. [ Andrey ]. You look so different. Babe. Do you like this kind of hairstyle on me, [, Andrey ]? It'S definitely different.. I think you should go out like that. No. (, Andrey Chuckles, ). Definitely gon na be wearing a hat.. It'S given my hair, a ton of frizz because it's not curling the hair. It'S crimping the hair., That's the one thing I don't like about crimpers.. They just give so much frizz. [, Andrey ], Oh yeah, that's a New Year New Year's Eve look.. The one thing I do wan na say: don't force the iron to go through your hair.. It does go through the hair automatically on its own, but you don't wan na basically create extra tension in your hair by forcing it through the hair.. I'Ve just never really been into the crimping. Look on my hair type. All right, so I took a little over 20 minutes, which is quite a lot actually. And again I was telling you guys. While I was doing the hair, you have to take small sections of hair and thin sections, which is unfortunate because it does add quite a lot of time to styling the hair.. The one huge negative I wan na say the ends they feel fried. They feel so hay-like, they feel very dry, they feel very... They just feel so dry.. They literally feel like fake hair on the bottom of my head., But hey it worked right, But the thing is a lot of it. You can see it's very inconsistent because I was either taking too thick of a section, or it was too wide of a section, and it was just having a hard time really coming through the hair. So well see like right here. It did a good job, missed a spot and then did a good job right, here., So wow this is.. Yeah when I bring it to the other side kind of the crimping effect kind of disappears. Cause you can see. I didn't get all of that hair., Even within those 20 minutes., And I did do it on the lowest heat setting, which was 374, which was still very hot. I didn't want to go higher than that, just because it's crimping the hair, it's putting tension on the hair, and I didn't want to put too much heat and it already doesn't feel good whatsoever.. I think this is good for certain looks certain parties if you wan na, get that crazy volume in your head. Definitely kind of works, creates that texture, but overall, would I ever do this and just be very intentional about it just go out and do my thing? No because I don't personally like it on myself. All right so overall, I do wan na say that the automatic part of this does work. If you hold the tool properly, like I said, I was holding it wrong. The first time having the barrel go up. Instead of going down because for it to work, the barrels have to go down your head, not up your head.. So keep that in mind the way you hold this hair crimper, you have to hold it in a specific way for it to work properly.. The next thing I do wan na say is this already is a huge step up from the regular hair crimpers, because even with a regular bed waver, the ones you have to physically clamp and hold clamp and hold camp and hold your wrist and your hand, will Definitely start cramping get it. It will start cramping up because you have to physically hold it there for a couple of seconds: unhold, uncramp, cramp, again, cramp.., (, laughs, ), [, Andrey ], That's right! Cramping, your hair.. It'S cramping your hand, yes.. You have to clamp the barrels together, hold it there and then unclamp clamp again all the way down your head and depends how long your hair is, and my hair is not that long and my hands were hurting.. I had to keep switching from my left to right hand, so this already gives a lot of comfort and convenience in that aspect of it's not gon na mess. With your hand. My hand totally feels fine. Both hands feel fine, because it does the job for you. In that sense of you just hold it and it just goes down. Kind of like a flat iron right, The one thing the automatic portion, because it is faster than a regular hair iron. So it kind of forces you to go faster on your hair. So if you're on the lowest heat setting, the look is gon na be very inconsistent.. You can see right here several of these sections., It's crimped at the top, it kind of stops halfway and then it continues down.. So it depends how your hair is positioned in the plates, so I was kind of helping maneuver my hair within the plates to make sure they were staying within the plates. So that's another thing: it's not gon na do everything automatically for you. You still have to think and be intentional in what you're doing.. So please keep that in mind.. But overall I think it's a pretty cool tool.. Does everybody need this in their life? Is it gon na change your life? No, unless you like crimping your hair., Only certain people and very specific type of people will want this tool and really enjoy it.. Does it do a great job? Yes, it does. The one thing: I'd fix The temperature control settings and I'd fix, ... The size of this., And I would fix, go left or right, like it's just or just make it go a certain way, because the way you hold it it will break or Make your hairstyle so please don't pull it on your hair., Just let it just guide it through your hair.. It'S gon na go down your hair by itself, but just guide it through., (, laughs, ), I'm just laughing with Andrey'cause, I'm like ,''. What am I gon na do with my hair ?''? I don't want to wear it down.. He goes `` put it in a ponytail !'', I'm like ``. Okay, let's see what happens ,''. I pick up the hair into a section and it's thick ( laughs, ), Rwar., (, laughs, ). I do feel like a lioness right, now.. All right, you guys! Thank you so much for spending time with me and this automatic crimping hair iron.. Let me know your thoughts. Are you into this kind of stuff Crimping? Your hair bed wavers all of those good things that are basically coming back in style since the'80s and'90s, But for now thank you for watching this video spending time with me and I'll see you in the next one very soon., Bye. [, muah ]

Lauren Ruhr: I crimp my hair as a daily style and I think I look bomb af. ‍♀️‍♀️

andemaiar: 20 minutes is not a long time for a crimping look like that! Back in the day we used to have to wait half an hour for the crimper to warm up, get a friend, sit down on the floor and get our hair crimped, one clamp at a time. My hair would take probably an hour. Then I'd have to do my friends' hair. Crimping was an afternoon commitment. This seems like a pretty cool tool. Wish it was around 20+ years ago!

Laura.: I bought a tiny crimper earlier this year, and I've been using it for my roots only, and on the underside of my hair. I get amazing volume on my super fine and thin hair, and it's great for getting more grip and volume for updos.

Tanja Bastigkeit: In the late 80's this style was high fashion. I had the old crimper and this tool today make this look so fast and easy. My 13 year old me is jealous

Karen1Nicola: 20 minutes for a full head crimp is so fast! It would take like two hours or more back in the day!!

Sleepy Ghost Ginger: As someone who survived the 80’s, frizzy and dried out hair was on point. Don’t forget the aqua net.

Bria Gastelum: First few seconds in and my jaw dropped. Between this and scrunchies? Can malls make a comeback too please??

festivelady826: I LOVED watching you do this! I think it looks fab! 98% of my 65 years, I've had a short pixie. My hair is now your length (it took me 3 years to grow it out). I've never crimped mine, but I love it on you. You are so talented with hair!!!

jamielynn217: I crimp my hair at least once a week and this thing is a game-changer for me. Took less than 10 mins yesterday when it usually takes me 30 mins with my regular crimping iron!

Shelly Gaudet: Maybe it’s because I grew up in the late 80’s and have a deep love for that decade but I love the look of crimped hair. I love it on you as well. I used to have a Conair crimper set that had a bunch of different, interchangeable plates : a small crimper, a larger crimper, a heart, a star and a circle that would leave imprints in your hair it came as a set with a curling iron that had removable barrels and each barrel was different. It had a triangle, one that made these awesome hybrid curls ( was my favorite) a spiral barrel and several sized barrels to make tiny to huge curls and if my memory is right it also has a tapered barrel that back then I never used. I loved those 2 tools. I got it for Christmas in 88 and had it until it finally died somewhere around 2004. My mom said she paid like $20-$25 for the entire set. I would pay 4 times that to have that set again.

Preslava Minkova: I love your reviews, Melania. Honestly, they're the most informative and detailed in the web when it comes out hair tools. Thank you!!?

Lauri Watkins: Love the come-back of crimping! Looks great on you!

Stevie Kimber: I have been looking for a good crimper and just bought this after watching this video, and I am so in love with it! It saves me SO much time when crimping! Thanks for putting this amazing product on my radar.

Julia Guzman: I think your hair looks great. Your just not used to the look. It gave you a lot of volume. You will gain more experience with time and the time it takes will become less. 5 out 5 stars. Beautiful

Michelle Connor: Its amazing! We used to hive to clamp together each crimp really hard this looks so much more comfy!

ANITA LUANGLA: I love this crimper took me 10 mins to do my hair I love this ! So easy

inkonapin: I have this and I love it. :) I love the convenience of it. Took me a couple tries to figure out how to hold it properly so it always moves down the hair, and I'm not gonna lie I still get it wrong occasionally, but I just flip it over and keep going!

Softball Mom: I just had a serious flashback to high school! I tell my girls all the time that things that were cool when I was in high school (class of 86 respectively) are making a big comeback. Like....checkered Vans, "mom jeans", Levi's (did they ever really go out of style though?) Crimped hair. All that's left are parachute pants, spiral perms and MC Hammer pants. Welcome back 1985!!

Amelia: Looks great! also makes super voluminous braids

La Gatita: I have a pic of myself from 1992 rocking crimped hair! I think its cute on many people. Still like it better than stick straight grungy look. The automatic crimper is awesome.

She Who Tends the Woods: I think some good alternate applications for this tool would be to either just crimp the under layers of your hair for added volume or crimping a few random sections here and there as part of a more complex teased-up, big-hair look.

Alyssa Duong: I have extremely long hair so crimping it looks nice on me, and I also think it looks great on you!

StephtheStar08: I would love a version of this that does larger waves... the v-wavers never worked for me!!

Lisa Fletcher: I love crimping my hair, so happy this came out your complaining so much about the time it takes? You obviously never used a actual crimper lol

Andie83: Well I think it looks good and 20min is GREAT for crimping, I want it, I'm sold!

adrie: It's amazing how so much of the 80s r back , lioness It did come out pretty, yea having smooth sleek hair back then wasn't such a big deal like it is now

Disney_pongo_love: My mom got a crimper like this for xmas and decided to try it on my hair and it looked amazing!

ArsMea: This is perfect for cosmetologists who use crimpers for updos. Such a time saver.

༺rachel killaa༻: Thanks for the video! I just received the same one... i love crimpers but definitely used to the traditional 90’s ones - if i had not watched your video i would have not known the correct way to hold this iron because the instructions really don’t tell you much (like you said) - you probably know this already but if you do not necessarily like the “crimped” look but have fine hair/want more body etc. if you crimp your hair fully than go to sleep on it, i notice that the crimps are pretty much gone but my hair is super full and textured xx

Jaquline Rathbone: I think her hair looks great crimped, sassy and wild

Ruby Gregory: I’ve always been a fan of crimped hair! I think yours looks great!

Montse3070: Omg...I use to crimp my hair all the time.... stated by plating my hair in 80 or 100 plats! 20mins is not that long are all.... this tool is amazing how it rolls your hair thru!!!!!!

eMVe32: I love this look on you... it's so powerful

Hannah C.: Would love to see what it would look like to use this to get more voluminous curls! Or using it to get volume at the roots.

JennyPenny: It actually look cute on you. Doesn’t look dry but probably looks different in person. Love your videos!

P Kirkey: 70-ish granny here. Thinning hair is a fact of life at my age. I have long, fine thin hair. I can crimp all my hair in less than 20 minutes. The crimps last 3 or 4 days. Crimped hair holds fancy braids and chignons far better than uncrimped hair. I use a heat protectant first. I love mine.

Alina Valentino Fonseca: Crimping tools are great to add volume. so make sure section small sections and use the crimped. It’s also great for people who want that full look. But it’s not for the whole head unless you r going for that type of look.

Jane from Canada: I am sooo glad I watched this video! I had no idea a revolving crimping iron existed! Thanks!

valarya: i LOVE the crimped look. always have :D

Brianne Blackburn: For someone who crimps their hair even small sections this saves soooo much time lol

Amber Ale: When I was in high school I used to love to crimp my hair, but only when I had a tan. I don’t know why, but I always felt I looked super cute with a tan and big, crimped hair.

Case and Jordyn: REQUEST: Could you please do a video on the best / worst lip stains? I love all of you videos and really enjoy your reviews on different products!

Siouxz84: Just for reference you can use it with the Ion logo up. Look at how you’re holding it on the second half of your head, and with that in mind just do the reverse on the other side with the logo up. If that is not clear, don’t hold the handles toward the front on the first side, hold them toward the back like you did the second side, then on the second side hold the handles toward your face. Idk the exact names of the parts for reference, but I hope that helps.

Lauren Aked: I really want to buy this now. It would crimp my thin hair sooooo fast!

Susan Jäderberg: I love the crinper style! i think it looks cool

mce1939: It looks so fun on you! I used to crimp my hair in the 80s and it was the bomb! I used to love the side party pony with crimped hair :) :)

TheEye: I think this would be great for people with straight fine hair that want to wear biking braids. Those braids work best with texture in the hair.

zobothehobo: thin hair people are wild 9 minutes into my hair i'm still on the first section!!

Angela Lee K.: Omg I actually love it I think you look beautiful! I know you say you wouldn’t go out like that but I think you look stunning! I need that cause I seriously would rock that hair style !!!!

LittleDeadFrank: I wish I could find this in the UK! I crimp my hair pretty regularly, but my normal crimpers take a looooong time

thetree93: Crimped blonde or ginger hair is literally the most pretty thing ever

Kelly Maldia: Very satisfying. I only wish crimping took 20 minutes back in the late 1980's!

letempsdechat: MILABU!! Would you consider comparing the Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer on its hot setting vs cool air temp? I just used mine on high/cool and it took a little longer, but my hair is so much softer and shinier and it was nice not to feel like I was cooking my hair. My hair needs a break in the winter and I'm going to try use it this way more often. I wonder if there are any tips for drying with cool air vs with heat.

Lillie Graham: That is really satisfying, because I used to have a normal crimping iron and it took forever.

stupor mundi: This is really cool I only wish you could reverse the direction of the rotation to make it more convenient on the opposite side. There are many cool hairstyles, updos and braids that incorporate little sections of really defined crimped hair like interesting accents of texture, and they look up to date and fantastic rather than having the entire hair crimped. You could show us some of those hair styles and braids interweaved with crimped sections, they are so pretty

Tamara Morton: I agree with you that that was very satisfying to watch and that I wouldn't curl my hair like that on a regular basis.

Huzaïna Joumun: Congratulations to you both I saw your pregnancy reveal video on Facebook!!! ❤

Julia Pearson: What do you do to help your hair recover after using that amount of heat on it? I always love your before hair! I have super messy curls and your natural hair is my dream hair, lol.

Alyssa Woodin: When you say “80s are back” but my Mom used to do this to me in the mid 2000s and I have THICK hair!

Cheryl Rivers: Could you crimp under top layer of hair only near roots to add volume for thin hair?

TASIAawful1: I’ve just bought the new babyliss hair curler it premiered on QVC looked great can’t wait until you try it out I think it’s around £80 but I got it for £60 not arriving until January though. If it’s not good I can return it thankfully

Holly Miller: I want a waver version of this!

purespirit9: It looks pretty on you. However you style it, you look beautiful.

Denise Thames: My local news has “WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE” they picked one of your videos today which I couldn’t fine. You trying lip glue! It was on Fox 19 Cincinnati, OH ! Hopefully it will get you more subscribers! I live in northern KY about 15 miles from Cincinnati! ❤️

Camille Coopersmith: I remember the 80s and I love your hair looks good

Kelly Maylene: I’d say you could use it like how the tool called Voloom. To just add volume by crimping the top section.

Conscious Community: Mila you could crimp the underside and flat iron the top dude and you’d have crazy volume! I have very flat hair. It would give me volume.

amy leigh: Omg I love the look! I think it’s just because you have a middle part that you didn’t like the look

Karen F: I just bought the mini bed head crimper as a dupe for voloom which is 120$ I paid 12 $ with some sort of promo. I love it !! Use it on the under hair just like voloom Yesterday wore it down looked great, today an updo so puffy, right now it’s down, again phenomenal volume. As a reference I have fine soft silky hair, very hard to keep a curl. Best 12 bucks I’ve spent on a hair tool in a longtime. And I’ve spent a fortune on hair tools lately because I’m wearing my hair longer since quarantine I haven’t had it long since I used to wear it feathered like Farrah faucet, I’d been a Lisa Rinna style for as long as she has been. No more, I’m now a long haired old lady ..there was a bright side to lock down.

Kitsy Ruvalcaba: Me encanta

Chelsea Allen: Personally I think it looks great on you

Ashley Heather: YES I JUST GOT ONE FOR CHRISTMAS IM SO EXCITED TO DO THE 80S HAIR

Michelle Smith: I would like to see you crimp your hair and then do different braids. I think a fishtail braid would look awesome with crimped hair.

Alexa Style Book: I think it's so cute but with my long hair, it might not work out too well

Claire Stevens: I have a ghd crimper I use just on my roots when I need more volume xx

Camille Coopersmith: I remember the 80s I was a teenager then love your hair

AMY JOHNSON: She has something bad to say about every product! I am surprised she gets PRs

steffers841: Canadian Gals!!! This IS in Sally's Beauty Supply!!

peachy75019: UGH! I hated the crimped look in the '80's and my opinion hasn't changed in all those years.

akiyoshidai1231: I like frizz! Crimpled hair is the best of all textures. Waves are overused and have bern around too long.

Momma O: wow, l still have a crimper, lol, how fun to have it come back you look great and l don't have the patience for that much time.

LittleMama2020: I still have an old 80/90s crimper I used to love using the crimper

Gurinder: Where did you get those earrings? I love the size and tone!

Dalia Lizardo: Question I have the same one, how long do I need to wait for It to warm up?

Jillian Jones: Love this!!!!!

Tonya S: Still faster than the old way tho

Sandra Sheets: Didn't like the look of crimping in the 80's I think it makes your hair look fried. It worked better than the tools in the 80's.

Fassiha Noor: just yesterday i have purchased this machine... and today i got to see your video on the same machine.... loved the product althought i havnt used it yet... but hopefully it will be a great experience.... atleast just wana say u r soooo beautiful

Tracy C: I love this item u have shown us on here and want it really bad but I color my hair. Is this going to work on color treated hair?

Simran: 20 minutes is long!! I spend 1hr every second day in this..that too when my hairs are shoulder length

Amy X: That looks so fun

Ash Akim: I'm a hairstylist and crimped hair is a very good base for updos and curls.

chel chel: Love that wild hair!

monalisadiva: Great for big volumised textured braids though?

Tracie Campbell: I think it looks good. I also see teenage me being very jealous. Lol!

Marija: This would be awesome if you wanna do just a few strands of hair and not your whole head.

alejandra Hilligoss: I could braid my hair in the amount of time it took to crimp your hair

Dakeyri R: Is it me or she looks like Arizona from Grey's anatomy???

amber roberts: I sorry I'm a 90 kid this is so cute for this type of hair our hair is similar it's so cute

Aurora Dijana: Can someone tell me does dupes of this iron work? In my country the original can't be found. :(
