How To Hide Recession In Your Hair Line

For some of us recession areas in our hairline are all to real! Mine has been like this for as long as I can remember, and although I'm not embarrassed of it, I don't like for it to be the first thing someone sees when they look at my hair.

I hope these Tips and Tricks are helpful for you!!

Products Mentioned:

-En Root Hair Mascara in Brunette*: http://goo.gl/f4P8Kp

-Eyeshadow used: Original Meet Matte Nude by The Balm (discontinued) - Any color that matches your hair will work!

--Scalp/Hair filling powder: http://goo.gl/USYviK

-Toppik Hair Building Fibers (medium Brown): http://goo.gl/dFN8dM

I have to say the Toppik powders are literal magic! I've used them on my hair line and on my husband's hair which like most men's hair is beginning to thin in certain areas. They're expensive, but you can buy the tiny ones for just $7 to see if you like them. Everyone I've talked to that has used them loves them :).

Hey everyone Gilly here so today I wanted to talk about how you can disguise or camouflage recession areas in your hairline. Now everybody has recession areas, so they are nothing to feel ashamed of they're, nothing to be embarrassed about, and there are nothing that you have to cover. That'S what I want you to take away from this. There are nothing to be embarrassed about. I don't want you to walk away from this video feeling, like you have something that needs to be covered up, because I promise you right now you don't, but sometimes they can be distracting from your hairstyle. So I wanted to give you guys some tips and tricks on how to cover them. Just in case you find that they're a little bit distracting. If you don't know more session areas are just these little areas where your hairline dips in a little bit and they're more prominent on some people than other. If you want to be able to make them a little bit less obvious, these tips and tricks will help you. So here's my before there's something new about these recession areas. I'Ve had them almost my entire life. It'S just something that I learned to deal with. So here are my tips and tricks. First of all, don't pull your hair back to tightly. This puts unnecessary strain on your hairline and it shows off every little thing with your hairline. So if you want to disguise those little recession areas, it's not the way you want to go instead, loosen up the hair right around the recession, areas and you'll see that it gives a lot of softness to the hairstyle while disguising the recession areas. It looks a lot better overall and it's really easy to do. You don't need any extra products to do this trick. Just loosen things up and you can see it makes a huge difference. Next, you can use hair mascara over any hairs that are really light and just not showing up some of these hairs that I have in my little recession. Areas are super blonde, so they just don't show up so the hair mascara makes them show up better. Now you can see on this side, I don't have as many little hairs, so it didn't make a big difference, but on the second side it made a big difference, because I had a couple more hairs there. The next option is to use some powder, so I'm using an eye shadow, but you could also use a brow powder or they make powder specifically for this and I'm just stippling it in the areas where I would want it to look a little bit more. Full. Just like you would fill in your eyebrows almost then I like to hit it with some hairspray just to make sure that everything stays in place and doesn't become embarrassing later in the night, and that's it you can see. This makes a really really big difference in the way the hairstyle looks. The final option is to you some hair building fibers. I have tried the topic once and I actually really liked them. You just tap them into the hair and then you pat it to kind of make them settle into place, and you can repeat that as many times as you need to - and you can see, I got some of my skin, but it actually wipes off really easily With a cloth, I've never had it stain or be embarrassing on my skin, then of course I hit it with hairspray just to be double sure, and then you can see the before and after here it's really significant and it looks really realistic. I think so. Those are my tips and tricks for disguising recession areas. I hope you guys have found this really helpful and I'll see you on Sunday with my next video love, you guys very much and I'll see you then mwah bye, you

Forrest Gump: everyone is talking about how this made them more self conscious about their hairline but this just made me feel more confident about mine. I have the same exact hairline as the girl in the video and this video just showed me that I'm not the only one with this hairline, that it is normal.

evangelionx: wow finally someone with my hairline

SaveSheikhJarrah: Good to know I'm not the only one with the hairline of a balding 30 year old man.

malibu64: Girl... this video seriously saved me so much heartache. I bought everything on your list except for the mascara because I couldn't find it, and I've been following all of your tips. The hairline that has brought me to tears can now be covered up with a little powder and it looks completely natural! You rock!! Thank you!!!

PeachyMangoPie: I've a hairline like yours since young -since like forever. It's just my natural hairline. people may mistake it as thinning patch if I tie all up too tight or sleek. But I've baby hairs on those areas. Weird right. Thanks for your tips! I recently blend in my Bahama mama bronzer around those areas should I tie up a sleek pony tail. Really love your tips!!

Melonie Z: It's hard to style hair with a long forehead - a lot of styles don't turn out this same. This was helpful thanks

Kasia Katarzyna: finally someone who has the same hairline as me

Rhoda: Hi Kayley, I just wanted to say thanks for pointing it out that people don't have to be ashamed or NEED to cover them up. As an individual with rosacea, occasional spots, and scarring, I'm tired of makeup and beauty gurus apologizing for their skin or hair and diminishing others' skin types indirectly by making these disparaging remarks. I refuse to be ashamed of my skin, hair line, etc., and if I want to cover them up some times, I will but I know and feel comfortable that I don't have to. So thanks for spreading that body positive message! I love your videos!

Sophie Gingras: Being a new mother who just recently stopped breastfeeding, I SO needed this! When those hormones kicked down, I began to lose hair like crazy, especially in my hair line! Thanks for this Kayley! =D

Piper Jamieson: I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has done this! I cover up my recession areas with brow powder every time I wear a topknot. Thanks for another awesome tutorial :) xoxo

anna o'brien: These tricks are absolutely incredible! I also love how you said we don't need to be ashamed of this hairline as looking through the comments I can see so many people have it too. But thanks so much, these tricks are amazing

itsjustskye: I'm 13 and has always had a receding hair line, thus helped a lot and it'll most likely stop the teasing about it, thank u

Bailey A: Omg I'm so glad I found this! I have a weird hairline and have always been extremely self-conscious about putting my hair up. I'm so glad that I finally found a way to cope with it. Thank you so much!!❤️❤️❤️ You are amazing!!!

Astrid: Thin hair problems! I never had recession on my hair line as a kid until I decided to go all throughout high school wearing ponytails. I noticed that my sides were receding and I had a bald spot on the front of my head from all the pulling. I stopped wearing ponies so tight but, my hair has yet to grow back in those areas. I am always self conscious when wear my hair straight back now so this is definitely going to help! I have a few hairs on my sides that somewhat cover up the receding hairline but they literally never grow. This is definitely going to help! Thanks!!

Johanna Volkova: Thank you for this video, Kayley! I am someone who would have a forehead reduction procedure done if I had the $9K to spare, but I don't and I probably never will. For the nay-sayers: at the end of the day, it's my body and I'll do with it as I please, so please respect my autonomy. Thank you.

Ank Viv: Thank you for this briliant tutorial!! Ive been having very bad recession because of weird hormonal levels after giving birth to my beautiful baby boy 4 months ago, so this helps me alot with my problem and thus gives me more confidence! THANK YOU!

Mrs Gump: I have a disease and that combined with my meds have made my hair fall out badly. I've always had fine hair but lots of it, and now it's fine AND thin, especially around my temples but also quite thin above my ears. Thank you SO much for this, I'm def going to give them a go :-) My hair/skin/body has done a complete 360 compared to how it was before and it really gets me down sometimes, being constantly sick is bad enough, but to then feel like I always LOOK like crap too, just makes me feel even shittier about things. So tomorrow morning when I do my hair, I'm going to give a couple of these a go, a huge thank you!!

Isabelle Cote: thank you so much for this video! I'm glad you put it up, even though it can be a touchy subject. But this video is no different from regular makeup or hair videos I think, because the reason we're all here anyway is to help us feel more confident in ourselves using makeup, and I find that these tricks will do just that for a lot of people!

KC Stone: Thank you for this video! I have the exact same recession areas that you have, and like you I'm not ashamed of them but I do feel they take away from some of my hairstyles. Great tips! Keep up the good work :)

ChiyoriMizushima: Thank you so much for this video ! First of all, it's comforting to see so many people with the same problem as me. Plus your tricks are really useful. I have the same hairline as you and I've always been really insecure about it.

Chloe Ip: You are definitely one of my favourite youtubers. I love how you explain everything in detail and that all your videos are really applicable, especially this one. I'm definitely trying some of these tricks to hide parts of my hairline :)

Michelle Martin: This is the first video I've ever seen giving these tips! Thank you so much, I avoid putting my hair up because of this. Life changer ☺️xx

miasmomma1: Omg, your an angel! Just this week I was constantly looking at my hairline and thinking "it's getting worse, want can I do!" Yes, it bothers me that much. I can't wait to try your tips. Thank you SO very much.

Rebecca Kelsey: I've been doing this with brow powder close to my part line for awhile now. I have pretty thin hair. When I'm on second or third day hair the oil just separates my strands making me look like I'm going bald. Not fun. I feel much more confident with a little brow powder mixed in. Thanks for the other tips! They were super helpful. Kindness is the best accessory, Rebecca

Brandaluna: I love how you presented that introduction along with the tips. Thanks for being so positive! I've had my finger hovering over the buy button for Toppik during my last few online orders, and I think you've convinced me to give it a try finally.

Samantha Smith: Thank you SO MUCH for this! Ever since I had my daughter last year I've lost a significant amount of hair and this little dips really bother me! Life saver :)

Anaitzi Ley: None of the other "beauty gurus" have this type of videos!! So practical and helpful, thank you so much! I just discovered your channel and I love it, you've become my favorite by far!! Great job :)

* spoons *: This makes me feel a lot better about myself. Thank you for the ideas ❤

CrystalRainDrop789: I feel so much better about my recession now :)  I got my dad's widow's peak and my mom's recession and it's never bothered me that much until I started cosmetology school and have felt like my recession is effecting the style.  This was so helpful.

Kayleigh 83: So helpful! I have a recession area on one side of my head but not the other, so it's noticeable in its difference from the opposite side. These tips are great!

mantra4ia: Thank you thank you, I've been needing this tutorial all my life. It makes me feel so much better about styling my hair when it's pulled back.

raebhyn4: thank you SO MUCH for sharing these tips! I've always been embarrassed about the receding part by my hairline and now, I know how to fix them! :)

KeeptheFaith: These are great tips! My hairline started receding at the center a year or two ago.

Natasha: This is so helpful!! I have a little area on one side of my hairline where my hair didn't really grow I guess. There's baby hairs there but it still looks different to the other side. These tips really help! Thanks heaps :D

Sherri Porter: Thank you so much for this video! I thought I was the only one with a recession hair line and I'm very self conscience about it. I got hair extensions one time and that helped. I'm going to try these solutions. Thank you!

hsaadah6: Omg girl thank you SOO MUCH! Honestly, people know how well I can do hair and never understand why I don't do it on myself and it BC of my recession areas! I never knew there was something you can do about it! thank you so so so much!!

Sam Catcher: I always thought I was the only one with this type of hair line, I'm glad I'm not alone. This is such a helpful video! Thank you!

Breanna Beck: Hi Kayley! Great video! Where as I don't necessarily have recession areas, I do have a slight widows peak. Do you have any tips for dealing with that? My hairstylist has to be careful when I get my hair highlighted or it can look wonky. As far as everyday though, any tips or tricks up your sleeve? Thank you!

Lauren Ann: i've been searching for a long while on how to tend to my hairline while putting castor oil on it every other night (for anyone wondering, i think my hairline and eyebrows are slowly thickening up with castor oil, i've noticed a huge difference in my eyelashes) these tips are amazing. also thanks for the note of confidence in the beginning, made me feel a bit better about myself :)

Sammie Martin: my hair had started to recede after I turned 20, thanks for the tricks!

Pamela Harrison: Thanks for the great tips. Certain hairstyles do highlight an uneven hairline, and though there is nothing wrong with that, I appreciate some ideas to help minimize mine.

Taylor Stoia: My hair line looks exactly like yours. I've been trying to overcome my insecurities with it. Wearing my hair up more and just not caring what people may think. I come to realize that I am my biggest critic. That people don't notice. But I will try to use these technique to make me feel better.

Vanavålnaden Iproppskåpet: I know I'm late to the game but as a woman with this type of hairline, seeing you and reading all the comments makes me sooo happy! Thanks a million

Geraldine Cenita: This happens quite badly for me because I'm a dancer so my hair is always in a bun, which has to be tight or else my hair will fall out during classes. This such a helpful video!

Chi: omg I've been looking for how to hide recession for so long and finally found really great tips!!! Thank you so much <3

Nicole Drew: Thank you for so much for this, these tips were really helpful! You are the first person I've seen on youtube with my hairline, mine has been like that my whole life too

Sue Cox: Sooo helpful--I've had these areas since I was a kid and these are great tips. Thanks!

Milijada Svetozarevic: I realized my recessions became worse with wearing tight ponytails all the time, so I started wearing low ponytails and braids, and used castor oil on them to grow more hair out and it looks much better now. I also use the mascara trick! :)

Lateralus ꩜: You are very beautiful! Not just for the way you look; you also took the time to say recession isn't something you should feel ashamed of. As a 20 year old guy going through this you made me feel better about myself :)

Amanda Bucci: Thank you so much. This saved my life!!! I have trichotillomania and I pull in those exact spots, so this really gave my hope on how I can hide it while it grows back.

Destiney Adkison: This is great! There are a lot of your hair styles I haven't tried because I have a major dip in my hair line but this will change everything!!! Thank you for sharing!!

Maia: my hairline is very similar to yours, and i struggle a lot with this issue. Seeing how beautiful you naturally are made me feel very relieved because i wasn't distracted much by the recession. i think the problem with my recession isn't ON my head, but instead IN my head. thank you for this video. it made me feel a lot better!

sus90210: I love the video Kaley! Because i have the same "problem" with my hair. Mine are very obvious and i have been feeling very self conscious about them from time to time. So thank you for showing that it is normal, but also that there is something i can do about it if i want to hide it. The way i see it, is that it is no different then when we put on makeup to conceal something, or just make our face a little more beautiful. (sorry about the grammar , but i am danish)

Melani R: I cannot thank you enough for this. I've had those my whole life and one side is more prominent then the other so thank you.

Alena Cadova Being Creative: Finally someone with my hairline. Thank you for confidentally showing your forehead, it makes me feel more like a human being when I see I'm not the only one.

kira zoe: I have the same hairline as you plus a big forehead

20awatson: My hair line is just like yours! Love this so much!!

Ms X: I have recession areas in the same points on my head but I can only hide one of them with my fringe, as I have a sidecut on the left side of my head. I just learned to deal with the obvious one, but I like that tip of using eyeshadow to fill it in a little bit. This was really useful and I especially like the fact that you explained that this isn't necessary or something to feel insecure about. Nicely handeled.

Annette Miller: My hair is very fine and breaks off easily.  Recently I've been concerned about losing my hair so this video couldn't have come at a better time.

Veronika Russ: this video has everything..I love when video is informative, to the point but with sensitive attitude...I also liked that it wasn't sponsored..so the issue can be solved by anybody on this planet..thank you..great job!!

Christina Goulart: Thanks for the tips!! I have suuuuper long bum length hair and although the hair itself is fine, i have quite a lot of it. My problem is that im usually in a hurry and end up wearing it up a lot in top knots, buns, pony tails etc., even to bed. It ends up putting to much weight on my temples and the stress gradually makes that area receed. I grow it back by wearing looser styles or down but it takes about 3 months for the temples to 'fill in' so these are great in the meantime! Thanks!

Leisa Styles: OMG WOW!!!! Thank you, have struggled with this for the past 20 years

FeelingTheLook: Thank you! You've made my day better! Im not ashamed of mine but i never liked it so now i know a way to hide them!!

bloxburg bedroom: OMG i have had these my whole life and i always wanted them to go away i naturally have a big forehead so these areas make my forehead look even bigger. I never wore pony tails or buns because it would show these areas more. I have been looking for a solution and you gave me one. FINALLY FREEDOM FROM BIG FOREHEAD! HURRAY!!!!!!

Kirstin Weijer: Just found your channel through your collab with Tati and am now obsessed. Do you have any tips for thinning hair? I have very fine hair, with oily roots but dry ends and slightly irritated scalp that has started falling out quite a lot recently and no idea what to do! Help!

Jead: thanks! simple and effective. i really appreciate that you didnt go through a long intro like most youtubers these days :)

Cheyenne: Omg I thought i was weird and that something was wrong with me. My family made fun of me for it too! Thanks for the tips!

TheLizzifer: I have these too and hadn't thought of disguising them. so I really like the idea!!. Thanks for the tips! Subtle, lovely and doable!

Sonia Chan: Super helpful. Kudos for addressing an issue that can be bothersome

Ángela GraN: Thank you for this video! I've sometimes put eyeshadow on my hairline and felr like the weirdest person in the world lol. Noone talks about this but it can really make me feel insecure sometimes.

Michelle: Thanks for sharing! I have a recession area on one side of my head, and I like to conceal it just for symmetry's sake :)

Jessie rae: thank you so much for this video. I suffer from trichotillomania which is a hair pulling disorder. I have been pulling around my hairline and this really helped me cover it up.

melss94ish: I love the way half-ups or ponytails and buns look but, whenever I put my hair back I've got tons of little stray hairs popping out all over the top of my head. I think it's because I often wear my hair down so the hairs are trained to go a different direction. You don't seem to have that problem though. Do you have any tips for smoothing down those crazy flyaways? Please and thank you.

Claire Twomey: Your hair line depends on your genes! you may have a straight hairline or a widows peak (shown in the video). Widows peak is a dominant gene so it is more common. While a straight hairline is recessive so it isnt as common. You shouldnt be embarrassed about how you were meant to look.

Serena f: nothing wrong with them! everyone has a different kind of hairline, not need to hide it!

Kelsey: thankyou so much for this video! my hair has thinned out a lot from stress lately so I'm happy you had this helpful info :)

youshimimi: File this under the things I didn't know I wanted to learn, but now I'm really really glad I did :)

Valentine Mistress: Oh thank you! I literally shove bangs over my forhead to hide this :( but I never though of just giving my hair more looseness

Veronica Espinoza: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS KAYLEY! I'VE BEEN INSECURE ABOUT THIS FOR A WHILE AND NOW I'M NOT ANYMORE :D :)

Kayla_Strong: You know, there's a guy in one of my classes that told me the other day, to get smart with me, "When I look at you, all I see is forehead." In front of the guy I like and everything. I usually have a side bang yet he still managed to say that in front other people. Like seriously, keep it to yourself. He really, really got on my nerves that day -_-

jessica m: Had it my whole life and ive always hated it! Thanks so much for your help!

Jessica Fong: Thank youuuu. Finally someone with the same hairline as mine!!!

J Clemmons: Thank you!! I've had mine since I was a kid and of course I only noticed them on me... I'm glad I'm not the only one... Even tho I'm 28 now it still makes me feel better : )

Angel of Darkness: Thank you so much for giving me inspiration what to try on my very similar looking problematic hairline.

Lauren: ive never felt less alone. I was sure I was the only person on this planet besides middle aged men with my hairline

Kassandra Smith: I have A strong recession line and I honestly didn't know they had a name. I've just delt with it and thought it looked weird sometimes but I'll definitely give these tricks a try :) I wonder how it'll look since I'm so use to having it look like how it does lol

Bella Stastny: I get made fun of for my recession and I'm definitely going to use this because I'm really embarrassed

Kayleigh Browne: Ive been feeling so uncomfortable with my hairline its exactly like yours, im so relieved that its not just me lol

Cattism7: Great video. Not everyone can be confident about their hair line. It's like acne, lots of people have it, but some people don't feel comforable showing it. Any chance of hairstyles which cover your ears, or which distract from a high forehead?

Caitlin Lowry: Absolutely loved this video, thank you so much!!

Night Realm: THANK YOU!!! I used to get told I look like a man all the time because I have a receding hairline combined with thin lips and a large overly prominent jaw... I've always been concerned about my looks but lately it's beginning to seriously bother me because I want my face to look more "conventionally feminine" than it actually does but it's so hard finding tips for this... Thank you so much! btw I mean no offense by this, you're very pretty either way.

buddy holly: I love this video! It totally changed my hair game years ago when i watched it!

Lety Jimenez: OMG so glad I subscribed to your channel!!! This video has helped a lot!!!!! I can't wait to try these tips. This video will help me a lot. I've been struggling with this for a few years now, and it's hard to not think about it, thank you again!

QuixoticFunambulist: Kayllleeeee, I love you so much <3  I like how you make sure to  point out how there's nothing embarrassing about it :)

kat: I know you were hesitant to make this video, but I'm really glad that you did. This can be really beneficial for people with trichotillomania.

MissAmyxo: Very interesting :) I definitely use the first tip about keeping things loose a lot.

Snoo zer: Oh man, you read my mind, I have really dark hair and I was desperate to hide my braid part line the other day and I used makeup. I thought I was crazy, and people would think I'm so weird, but if you do it to, now I just feel clever :D

mypeastew: Great tips. Can you film some tips to deal with 2nd/3rd day hair parts? For example, when I wake up 2nd/3rd day my hair isn't oily so it would be great to not have to wash it except I get an extreme part down the back of my hair extended from my front/side part. Sometimes dry shampoo solves my issue but most times I end up jumping in the shower to wash my hair. Help!

Lauren Wood: You are a lifesaver! I never ever ever wear my hair back because I hate my hairline! Thank you thank you!!!

Kimberley O'Callaghan: Love your videos! Can you do some recipe ideas? Or some messy bun tutorials? Please and thank you :)
