Today I'm going to teach you how to set your hair. What we're going to do first is we're going to start off with day-old hair. So that means, you either washed your hair the night before, prior to, or the morning. The next thing I would do, I would inspect and see if there are any places that are too oily. One thing that you can do with those places is you can either re-wet them and re-blow dry them, or you can apply a little dry shampoo. Both will give you the exact same effect. Dry shampoo sometimes gives you a great base to tease on and a little bit more texture throughout the hair.

The next thing I've done is, I've already brushed out her hair, and I've already applied a heat protectant holding spray. One that I like is Sam Brocato Blond Bombshell, gives the hair a little bit of volume and a light hold. So we're adding the hold before we even get started. So using a one-and-a-quarter-inch curling iron, I'm going to start on the back and just add curls. Now, I'm curling the hair starting at the root and then ending at the tip. The reason I do that is the root is the newest, healthiest part of the hair, so it needs the most heat.If you've ever curled your hair and then noticed that it fell out shortly thereafter, or it got really flat at the roots and the curl stayed on the very tips, it's because there wasn't enough heat applied to the root.

Even if you're wearing your hair in a straighter style, I would still recommend going through and adding a set like this. You might want to do it with a larger curling iron to get a smoother effect, but the heat just makes the hair more pliable. When you're first starting out and you're not quite as dexterous with the curling iron, I would definitely suggest starting out on a lower heat so that you don't feel rushed. I think the worst thing that you could do would be to start on the highest heat, which we all tend to do anyway, and then be worried that you're going to burn the hair. So you're rushing through to finish.

So we want everything to look really perfect right now, because we're going to rake our hands through and kind of tousle these curls a little bit afterwards. Then when you get anywhere that you want body, you'll curl the hair going straight up instead of down. So we tend to like a little bit of body at our crown and at the very top of our heads. Now that I've done this back section, I'll actually go through and I'll spray it with a light flexible holding hairspray.
