Hi and welcome to tonight's tutorial, i'm pam wrigley and i am a bridal hairstylist. I do makeup as well. Um. In fact, i started off. Doing makeup then discovered that i loved working with hair and tonight and i've been doing it now. I'Ve got about 30 years. I think tonight we're going to do a very quick, didn't take me, 30 years to learn this style tonight. We'Re going to do a very quick kind of braided, half up style that works really well. If your client has kind of natural curls whether she has a soft wave in her hair, i would even work on straight hair, so you can do this style relatively quickly. You could you know if this was a bride? You could take a little bit more time on the hair prep and get some waves, some gorgeous waves or soft curls in the hair, but it does work well if you, if you're running short of time and you have a bridesmaid who maybe wants a style uh Putting a hairstyle crating, you know with with not too much time. So one thing i must forget is: if you have any questions, please just pop your questions into the chat box, and i will do my best to keep an eye on that chat box tonight and get back to your question asap um. It could be about tonight's style, but it could be to do with anything about bridal, hair or working as a bridal hair stylist. We use our kind of this. Our live videos that i do every week, kind of to give you a little taster as to how you know how fabulous it is to work as a bridal hairstylist. But if you do want to find out more information, we do have an online bridal hair course. Where you'll, you know, you'll learn, step by step, how to create beautiful, bridal hairstyles, it's a certificated course, and also you kind of tonight. When we do our live tutorials, it's not hard. It'S not easy for us to zoom in so you can't see exactly what i'm doing step by step, but if you're not sure about anything, please just pop your question into the chat box, hi sharika good evening, i hope you're well now, let's do this style now! This um hairstyle she's got a nice soft curl already in the hair, but, as i said, i did this actual style saturday with a fabulous sunday, sorry sunday, the 13th. I did this particular style on one of my brides and she got married at a club in central london called the lansdowne club, which is a beautiful kind of private members club, and she had this lovely soft, low kind of boho style, which is perfect for all. Our lovely kind of upcoming spring weddings, so soft and relaxed and kind of effortless. Looking now, depending on your your bride, you might want to get a little bit of height on the crown. So i'm just twisting these curls here just a little bit, but if you had straight hair you could put some you know a little bit of spray wax goes a long way, so you could create a little bit of texture here on the crown, maybe with a Bit of spray wax, maybe with some texturizing powder, but i would avoid using texturizing powder on your practice head here. What i'm doing i'm just creating some little a little bit of movement here, so you can see she's got a little bit of height, but not too much and now yeah. I wouldn't use the texturizing powder on the practice head because it just kind of um. It'S going to be really difficult to get out of the practice head, so uh, it's probably best not to use in the practice head. So let's create our french braid. So i want to leave some sections of hair down and quite often what i'll do when i'm working with my brides is. I will ask them to kind of work out beforehand which bits of hair she wants to have down, and then i might either clip those away or just ask her to hold them out of the way. Just while i create the braid, let's just get a little clip for these, because it can be very easy once you're kind of concentrating on creating the braids. It can be. Sometimes you forget and you end up bringing them into the style. So let's create a french braid tonight, so we're going to split this section into three sections here and we're gon na. Sometimes you know, if you do a dutch braid, it can look nice, but it can come a little bit tight into the hair and if you want this to be a bit softer, sometimes i find just by coming over doing the french bread where we go over With our sections, it just looks a little bit softer at the beginning, but they still get that lovely kind of soft braided effect, and what i'm going to do with this one instead of bringing it over, is i'm going to add to this section. Let'S make sure i don't include those sections that we want to be leaving down. So i'm going to add to this section i'm going to get quite a big section of hair actually here, because i'm you'll you'll see that i'm only going to add to this front section here, i'm not going to add to the back one. So i'm going to add here and take that over now sometimes hold on a minute, because you know what i've done. Oh yep, that's the front section. Sometimes, when i'm chatting and braiding - and i do this sometimes when i'm working - if i'm chatting too much and i'm braiding - you forget - where you're up to so now, i'm going to bring this back section over, but i'm not going to add to it. So, strictly speaking, i think you'd probably call it a lace braid. I think, because you're just adding to one side, but the reason i'm doing this. There is a method to my madness. The reason i'm just adding to the front is because add that to front go over to the middle and then the back one i'm just going to take over without adding, but the reason i'm doing this is because i don't want to create a parting here. So i'm going to add to this front section and i'm going to take kind of from the front of the head. So here's my two sections here and i now need to my third section - is here. I need to add to this. I know it's not easy to see on camera, but i'm going to add to this and add quite a sizable amount. So you're, almost going from the front of the section to the back of this section, you're going to add all that hair to the front section and go over now hold on a minute. I'Ve lost myself. There we go. Let'S see where are we there? That'S it and go over and then this is the back section not easy to see when we're doing it on the live webcam, but we're not adding to this we're just going to go over to the middle, and then here i'm going to add to this section. This is my front section. Now i'm going to get quite a big chunk of hair and it's a good job. I'Ve clipped those other sections away, so i don't accidentally pick them up and then come over hold on a minute. Let me just make sure i've got the right bit yeah to keep going back and double checking myself here. That'S it and the reason i'm doing this is we don't get this part so that we get a nice kind of uh soft, looking style, and here i think you know what i don't think i need to add any more to this section any now. I think we've got enough. I can just do the regular braid now, let's just check hi carter, hi john, so good evening and good evening charlotte now. Let me just check the questions. Let'S have a look, john family hair for a wedding in a hot country. Um, could you let me know what their hair is like? Is their hair, naturally curly or is it naturally straight then i might be able to because it's different, depending on the hair type as to what you would do and then charlotte? How do you create these curls? Ah, okay, well um, so these curls are actually. I did a tutorial uh a couple of weeks ago on youtube, where you can see how i and we're kind of doing um curly hair practice, but on a practice head, because it's not easy. If you're not used to working with curly hair, not necessarily going to find lots of people, who've got curly hair, so we've worked out a way. I showed you ways to how you can curl your practice head. So it looks like she's got natural curls, and this has just slowly kind of slowly kind of loosened to a very soft curl. So this was a couple of weeks ago. If you want to look in our kind of library, you'll see what i did to create. This to do this kind of beautiful curly, hair practice on your practice head, and then you don't need to brush that out, especially if you it's good idea to have two practice heads, maybe and then you can just kind of play around with the natural curls, not Natural natural looking curls and then what you can do is just uh. You don't need to, as i say, don't need to brush them out. You can just um keep creating styles and eventually it will look like this, a lovely soft kind of wave. If i wanted to create this look, i would be working with lots of small sections of hair and doing the probably the reverse wind with the twist technique. So you get that lovely beachy wave and we do have tutorials showing you how to create different waves and curls fine and straight. Thank you, john. So what i would do if i was working with fine straight hair in a hot humid climate, you know you can't you need to use probably when you're doing the hair prep put some mousse in the hair to help get a little bit of volume and a Little bit of kind of root, lift and then, when you're styling the hair. The best thing, i would say, is to use a stronghold hairspray as well, when you prep the hair and also use some texturizing powder. If the hair is going to be up because you'll find it will really help to hold the style and i'll tell you what else works as well, if, if they want a kind of down style like this, a little bit of dry shampoo sprayed through the waves Or the curls that are down just helps to uh, give it a little bit of extra staying power. It feels kind of a bit beachy, but that's almost what you want and it makes it a little hair a little bit bright, which again is what you want. So you can use stronghold hairspray, but i find a little bit of dry shampoo just sprayed through the curls. If you're in a hot climate makes a massive difference and it will really help your hair cells to hold. So if you're going for an updo, you could spray a bit of dry shampoo through the hair once you've done the hair prep. But just before you style, you could do that or you could use your texturizing powder. But if she wants a hair down, i'd use a little bit of dry shampoo through the hair through the mid lengths and the ends and also through the at the root, because it was all also helped to absorb a bit of moisture um but yeah. I would use the texturizing powder at the root and, if she's got having the hair down, use some dry shampoo just to help to hold the curl. So we've got our hope that helped we've got our lovely kind of french half french braid. Actually, you can see it's kind of flopping forwards a little bit here if you can see that, but we don't need to worry about that, because we're going to bring that back in a minute. I'Ve already created the braid on the other side. So, let's get this to lie where we want it to sit where i want to sit, and i think he is probably a good enough, not good enough. It'S a good place, that's it and i'm gon na put a little twist in that now we do have tutorials, showing you how to make sure you're hiding all the bobby pins and what we need to do. Is you don't want to kind of just have the hair flat and stick the bobby pin on top? Let me get a blonde bobby pin. You can see what i'm doing a little bit better. I think so. You don't want to kind of just do this and plonk that bobby pin on top of there. We need to make sure, as we create each of these different styles in each step of the style, that we hide the bobby pins. So, really what i'm doing i'm putting a little twist in the hair here and i'm going to pop that bobby pin where my finger is holding the hair? That'S where i'm going to pop the put the bobby pin. As i say, it's not easy to show you up close and personal, how i'm doing this on the live tutorials, but we do have all this step-by-step on our online platform here, where this is just dropping forwards, a little bit, you can get a bobby pin and Just pin that back so it sits beautifully there at the side. Let'S check our questions again: let's have a look yep, quite short just on the shoulders. So i would say john, do a lovely if she wants to blow dry. It depends whether you're going to have the hair up or down, but the same would apply if her hair's going to go up a little bit of texturizing powder and also you could even put the texturizing powder for short hair and for long hair. Just at the root, if she wants to have a little bit of volume, but still have the hair down, but on the hair, that's down dry shampoo is fabulous for helping to hold that final style. Okay, like no problem charlotte, i'm glad that helped. Ah, now sharika sharika's practice that is, is very dry. She wants to know how to make the hair smooth. Well, you'll find the more styles you do, the drier the hair will get and actually in a way, almost the easier it becomes to create styles, and what you can do to then make the hair shine is a little bit of spray wax or a little bit Of your um structure, cream smooth smoothed over each section and also your styling care lotion, that's fantastic! First! If you spritz that on the hair, just before you curl you'll find it will help to smooth down the hair. Now, if you, you can, of course, wash your practice head, but do be careful. We do have a tutorial on our e-learning site, showing you how to look after your practice head and to keep the hair kind of stop it from kind of matting and going into like a like just a solid kind of mass of knots. You don't want that to happen, but you don't really want to be washing the hair too much and you'll be surprised when i first started working as a bridal hair stylist. I remember i was working at a place called amberly castle, which i think is down in west sussex here in the uk, and i arrived there well. Actually, i did the trial first, but the bride had bleached blonde hair and she used to straighten it a lot and it was really dry and very kind of brittle, and i remember thinking, oh my god, what am i gon na do? How am i going to get this hair to look gorgeous, but actually you know what it was: the easiest hair to style. So don't worry too much if that hair on the practice that is dry, because almost in a way, i think, when we're adding texture to our to the hair, with the mousse, with the dry shampoo with the texturizing powder, when we crimp the hair when we use The stronghold hairspray to create those fabulous textured styles we're actually making soft silky hair dry and really as a hairstylist soft silky hair is actually really difficult to work with unless she's, just gon na have a gorgeous blow dry, where the hair is all down and soft. But if she wants it in one of these textured styles or if she wants the hair up in some way, then you want a little kind of bit of almost grit to that not grit but kind of texture to the hair, so working with dry hair actually Can make your life your job much easier? So don't panic if you turn up and your bride has very dry brittle hair, because in fact what you'll find is the hair kind of you ask the hair to do something and it just does it and it stays there. So yeah don't worry about working with dry hair. It'S actually you'll find your hairstyles so easy to create. But i understand what you're saying about the practice head, so you can always, as i say, use a bit of spray wax. You could use your styling care lotion or your structure cream on each curl to bring that kind of fly away kind of brittle this kind of under control. And, finally, you can give it a wash and maybe use a little bit of a dry shampoo as well. Not dry, shampoo, sorry, deep conditioning to help to kind of bring the the luster back to the hair. I wouldn't use dry shampoo in a practice head. It just doesn't need it the hair's dry enough already. So we have our lovely kind of soft braid here. Going back our french braid and this style is really nice and quick. Let'S take those out now. We know that we've left them out and we're not gon na. We haven't included them into our braid. You can take a bit of time on the hair prep. If you need to, but if your braid has a natural wave to her hair or she wants to keep the hair straight, then it's a super quick way of creating a gorgeous half up half down with a braid here. And if you just want a few curls, you could maybe just use the straighteners and get a few straightener curls in there just to finish it off. So i hope you've enjoyed tonight's tutorial. Thank you for all the questions and oh yeah sharika. The spray wax is fantastic: it tames down any kind of fly-aways. It gives a little bit of gloss to the hair and it makes the hair look gorgeous so um yeah definitely worth investing in some spray wax and the two that i like. The gold well spray wax, but also this uh big sexy hair. It'S called uh play dirty shine and hold so um yeah. I hope you've enjoyed tonight's tutorial.
