Tonight'S style is a beautiful soft, cascading, half up half down sound we're working with extensions and we've got some texture and we're going to have some gorgeous movement in the hair. Now this is a style actually. This week i have been very busy teaching, so i did a one-to-one course with a fabulous student called wendy and she came down from just outside leeds actually and i'm we're based in london. So we've had two great days of hair styling um, and this was one of the styles that wendy actually wanted to create. So we kind of taylor made the course to the styles that she wanted to learn and she works with a lot of asian brides. So with lots of long cascading hair, so we needed to create curls that lasted hairstyles that were secure when you're working with long thick, hay hair and it's basically all round beautiful style. So this is one of those styles um. So this practice head doesn't have long hair, but we've had it. We have added extensions in to give her that extra length um and i don't know if you saw the picture on our little thumbnail, but that was the style that wendy created yesterday and it was a gorgeous style. So i decided i would recreate it today for everyone on youtube. So, as i say, if you have any questions, just let me know, and if you have any style requests, please just type it into the little chat box. Let us know - and you know we might be doing that style next week so and don't forget to like and subscribe and put your comments in the chat box. Now i've got here just a combination of two products, so we've got our l'oreal uh list control in their techni art range, and i also have my other all-time favorite, which is the goldwell creative texture, which is the super ego. It'S like a styling cream, but it has a lot more hold and the list control gives shine and a little bit of hold. So i kind of want the best of both worlds, so i'm actually going to mix them together, just a little bit so um. You know i like to think that you can kind of um play around with the products a little bit and find out what works best so for this style i don't want the curls to be too crispy. I want them to have a bit of softness a bit of movement, which is why i want the list control. But the hair is long and i don't want the curls to drop out. So i've used a little bit of the super ego cream as well, which will give me a little bit more hold. You could always use your stronghold hairspray as well at something like the um l'oreal infinium. Let me just show you this one, which is a stronghold hairspray. I wouldn't use this whilst you're actually styling, while you know you're creating the curls, but it's great to use afterwards. If you find your curl drops a little bit, but basically what i'm doing i've used a traditional wind for the curl here. So it's not too curly. We just want a soft kind of bit of bounce to the hair, but if you go too loose with the curls when you're working with long hair, if you go too loose, then the weight of the hair will pull the curl out. You know it will soften the curl anyway, so you'll find that after it might look fabulous at first, but after kind of 20 minutes half an hour an hour it will. It might start dropping too much unless your client has got natural, naturally curly hair. So we've used the traditional wind here, if you're not sure which the different curling techniques are. We do have tutorials covering the different curling techniques. So have a quick look at those and we're just going to take the curls out at the back here. Let me make sure i don't miss out any uh curls, so i'm just smoothing over and as you can see, what i'm doing with the curl is it's very good for when we do the beachy wave or the vintage wave you kind of pull the the hair. Will have a twist in it and you kind of work with the hair in a different way. But when you're working with this kind of curl you almost in order to avoid frizz and fly away, i'm almost re-wrapping the curl around my fingers just to bring the shape back again with a little smear of product. Just on the on my fingertips, as i wrap the hair to recreate the curl around my finger, and this way you lose any flyaways. What you want to try and avoid doing at all costs is kind of pulling your fingers through the curls. Unless you want a very soft kind of messier look, but here we want to actually see the curls and we don't want them to be um all separated and fly away and fluffy. Now what i'm going to do here you can see. I don't know if you can see here. Let me just turn her around these um extensions. Don'T have any clips on them, so i've had to kind of grip them into the hair. These are great for kind of photo shoots and live videos on youtube. But if this were somebody's wedding day i would have, i would recommend that they buy the extensions with clips in because it just makes your life much much easier. Now i want these curls to look like the cascading from here kind of down. So it's not just kind of flat here and then curly at the bottom, so i'm just going to start lifting this hair up just a little bit. Now we did a couple of different styles yesterday. Have we got a question sanji just says: can she sneak see how long the hair? Ah, of course she can, let me just lift her face. Look, she is super duper long and gorgeous. Isn'T she can we see that i love it, but if you see now, this is the bit that i think is a bit flat now, if she had maybe what i'll do as well, i could lift up the tripod a little bit. That much does that help a little bit yeah. So if this lady had long hair everywhere, i probably wouldn't need to worry about lifting up this section, because when i take these sections out, they'd be nice and long and the curls would then be staggered. But if, like me, you're working with extensions, then you might have to cheat it a little bit. So we don't want this kind of long bit of straight hair and then the curls. Well, we might, but i don't particularly for this style, so i'm going to bring this this hair up a little bit just to help it look like it's kind of a waterfall of cascading. Let me just pop this board this these extensions back in a little bit better, that's it! So i want it to look like it's a kind of cascading curl effect. So let me just pop that back in that's a bit better, that's where these um using the gripped extensions, it's better to use them when they've got clips than i think so, i'm just going to bring this up do a little kind of twist in the hair And let's get some lovely cascading effect curls here now we could. If we wanted to, we could use i'm just going to use a bobby pin at the back there. We could use um some padding, so we had a we looked at. We tried a couple of styles yesterday for these lovely long-haired, towels or tumbling effect styles, and you could put a little bit of padding here at the back if you want it to look more like a kind of soft bun effect. But here what i want to do is just give it a kind of the effect that the curls are kind of just effortlessly tumbling down. That needs a little bit of extra. That'S it curl in there so you're going to hold them in position and just go in with this bobby pin or you could use a hair. Pin i'm going to use my up and over and just pin it into position there. Just so we get some nice cascading, looking soft gorgeous curls. Let'S make sure it's even she's got these a little bit long down here. I think so. I might lift those up as well. That'S even better see kind of what we were looking at when i was teaching wendy. Is you kind of kind of you've kind of got to get have this radar so you're kind of not just looking at the bit of hair that you're working on? But you kind of have an all-round view of the hair better, that's much better! So she's got this lovely tumbling, cascading bit of hair, so we're not just looking at kind of one step, one part of the hair. You can see i'm looking slightly off camera, because i have a mirror just at the side here, and i find that really helps to give you that kind of distance a view from a bit of a distance, especially when you're working on camera, because i'm kind of Doing it, i'd normally have to stand at the back here, but for the purposes of the of today's tutorial, i'm working from the back so that you can see what i'm doing so, the mirror is invaluable, but it, i would say a mirror is key, even when You'Re working with your clients, so i always have a mirror with me, so you can see here on the crown. What we've done is this is our crown section. We'Ve got the back section, the crown area here and the side sections here and what i've done here. I'Ve kind of separated the hair into three sections, so i've got my nice triangle. Section here inverted triangle section here in the two sections at the side here, so you when you're working with a crown, you don't just want to work with that area directly on the crown. You also need the sides as well, so you get a bit of width and a bit of kind of umph to the hair and also the reason i've done. This inverted triangle is so that when we bring the hair back, if we've done kind of a narrow section here, you might get too. You might get some section lines in the hair and we don't want that either. Let me lift it back up again, that's it! So let's have a little look at this now. If you want quite a lot of height, you could put a bit of backcombing in. I just want a little bit of soft gentle height and more kind of movement. I think so. Let me just in fact now i do need to bring her down, because i'm not that tall and i need to be able to see on top here so um, i'm just going to just pull the calm through there just to start to get some of this Kind of pc work going on here and then we're going to bring this in and we'll bring this together and we could put a little bit of product on here. Let me get a bit of my you know. I haven't got my wax spray with me, but i'm going to use my structure cream instead and you can just create your little pc sections now if your client wants to have her the pc work. So i have i've not just curled this hair. In fact, i've only very lightly curled, the hair on the crown, but i have crimped the hair so again. Hair prep is all important and we covered that as well on our one-to-one course yesterday. We'Re unable at the moment to do our full face-to-face courses, but i am still doing my teaching both online and with our face-to-face kind of one-to-one courses for students who are able to come and visit me here in london. So if you are interested in interested in finding out more about my training courses, then please get in touch. If you want to specialize in doing bridal hair and you feel like you need a little bit more information. Sometimes it can be hard when we're working on you know with the on with our live tutorials. It can be hard to um to show you in detail the exact kind of work that i'm doing, but uh i've got hair on my face. That'S better but as i say, you can always join me on our online course or get some information on our face-to-face courses if you're interested. But you know what it's lovely to have you here with me on youtube and i'm just glad you can join me. So now i'm going to bring this hair in, don't forget to like and subscribe. We view our weekly youtube tutorials as well as doing our filming for our online course. Students are able to sit their exams so they can get there. Let me have a look at this certification and insurance and let me just secure this in place here. It might be that i need to bring a few curls up and over this kind of short hair here. Maybe if i was doing this for trial run, i would do this bit here. First, before i bring the curls up and make a note that actually to get the height first and then to bring the curls up, especially she's, got short hair like this, because then the curls here would cover the ends for short bits of the hair. If she had lovely long cascading hair here, then i could do something with these short bits of hair they'd be long and they'd be cascading and the curls. So i wouldn't need to worry, but here i'm just going to bring these curls up a little bit and secure them in position, so i'm happy with how they sit. Maybe we recur some of these bits. That'S better! Now. I would recommend, when you do these styles, that you that's better looks gorgeous. We might even bring these up and around a little bit from here, so it's all gorgeous and tumbling and cascading a little bit more product. Keep the curls smooth, try, not don't be tempted to uh, don't be tempted to pull your fingers through all these lovely cascading curls or she might end up with lots of fluff and fly away and frizz. We don't want that. We just want lovely gorgeous tumbling cascading. Curls is that another curl there? I think it might be just where i needed one so take the time, i'm going to do this style now, hopefully in about 20 minutes. But if i was doing this for somebody's wedding, i would be taking probably a good kind of cover up those short bits, a good hour, creating this, so that wouldn't be including the hair prep. Let me just take that out for a minute, so i am not. I am going quickly see that's better. I am going quite quickly here so, but when you do this style take your time and make sure that you're happy with the position of all the curls and secure she's got a lot of hair here. That'S it now. Let'S see before i pull any more curls back, i'm going to bring our little sweeping bits down at the side. I think then i know i'm up to. We need to make sure that any bit of extension is covered and you might play around with little bits of hair down. Don'T want to pull the extensions out, that's it and just let's, let's make sure, let's create our lovely kind of piecey bits at the side. Here and we almost want it to look like she's, just casually kind of woken up and just happens to look this gorgeous. That'S our aim and now, in order to secure this, i've got some little mini bobby pins, which i can adjust my little using that little technique when you start pinning the hair. Now you want to make sure that your pins are not visible. Okay. So it's important that you secure the hair properly. That'S in this bring this bit down here, and maybe it might be back, it depends. If you want to see, i might move that down for now. That'S it and just have a little play. Keeping the hair smooth and textured at the same time both are possible, and i think the thing with these textured styles is that you, it's kind of got ta, look soft and gorgeous. That'S it, but not fly away without any flyaways. So, let's almost there now, i think the hair prep here is crimping. First leave a little bit of hair down as well for her. I think some little soft bits down at the front. I always find it if you haven't cut some layers into your gold head and you might find it difficult to have these little bits. Get the right bits at the side down and this style really does lend itself to kind of layered hair. I think here so uh, that's it that looks nice. So if you haven't got any layers cut in your practice head, then either think about getting some layers cut in there or maybe just for the purposes of your style. You can leave some little bits down and curl them, but just um. I think it's more important if you're, perhaps working with a client, if they don't have any layers in and they've got long long hair. If you leave those bits down without having layers in there, they're just going to end up kind of falling out and looking a bit lank so uh, we don't want that, and i also think that had she got longer hair, i could have brought these down sweeping Down a little bit lower, which i think would have also looked lovely, i'm going to bring this back a little bit more, it's a bit too bulgy, that's better! So if you've got longer hair, you can maybe make these little side sections sweep down and back a little bit more. That'S it lovely! I'M gon na keep these curls looking gorgeous. So you can see the hairs a little bit short here, but you know what let's come to this side: we've got the hair. We'Ve got if she's got long hair. Even here, we'd have some beautiful long, cascading curls everywhere, but same as when we work with our clients. They might show us a picture where she's got long sweeping bits down, but if she's got short hair, then you know what we do, what we can do with their hair. Sometimes it's about it is. It can quite often be about managing your clients expectations. So sometimes you will get people who will have kind of shoulder length, hair and they'll show. You sounds like this, but if they don't want extensions, then they're not going to be able to get this kind of length, this kind of style. So we do also have to manage our clients expectations and you can kind of create the style and show her kind of what it looks like on her with her length, hair, that's better lovely and then she might decide to get a few extensions. But if not, then you know that's absolutely fine. She might like it just the way. It is it's not really usually what i always try and do. Is i try and recreate that style for my bride, so she can see what it looks like on her at the trial and if she doesn't have enough length, then she can make that decision for herself as to whether she wants extensions. But she may just be happy with that version of the style, but on her shorter hair, these little bits down make sure that they happen with the shape. I wasn't really, it might be a bit bulgy here. I think a little bit sections here done little bits down. Little soft softly swept sections of hair, that's it and also what you will find very helpful as you create your styles, especially these kind of piecy. Looking styles, how to create them would be to take photographs because you'll be surprised. What you see on camera can be quite different to what we see with a naked eye. So the camera kind of will highlight so maybe areas that that are too dark or a little bit. You know the hair isn't going in quite the right direction, so you will find that having your camera handy will be really helpful, so um just to help you um just leave a little bit of hair down just to help you decide exactly where each piece of Hair needs to go, maybe that can come down there, so we don't have to bring these sections all the way back. If we wanted to know she wants it quite soft, we could just bring it to here and probably what i would do here is, i might use it. Let me see if i can secure it here with a fine pin, but it would be better here if we used a little bit of texturizing powder in the hair and then secured these little short bits of hair, because then they don't move at all. Maybe we'll bring this little bit back here, yeah and that one there, but now we need to move this shape, cover this gap up. Let me just come back and see. If i can do this without creating that space, i think it might be better to bring it back so actually doing these styles, i'm going to secure it here as you're doing these styles, you kind of want to make sure, as you get each pin into position Each section of hair into position that you're happy, especially as we get to the end here, because it's going to it gets harder to hide pins. So you need to make sure, as you're doing these styles, that you are happy. That'S better you're happy with the position of the hair and that you don't have pins showing and it's all gorgeous and soft and relaxed. This is looking gorgeous now i'll bring these down to here, because this was a very low kind of softly, swept barely up style. So sometimes i find when you are creating these hairstyles securing the last few sections can take as long as doing kind of the first half of the hair, because everything has to be all the pins have to be invisible and the hair. Everything has to be kind of in the right place. I think we're getting there we're going to put our little. Let'S turn her around a bit and let's get this height now a bit better. We'D almost need to go back to the beginning, and i think we do need a little bit more back coloring in this bit here on the crown, because i'm not very happy with the shape here. Let me see if i can. Ah, that's better! Sometimes when you put a grip in, you might find that you move something somewhere else. You'Ll always have to be on the lookout. That'S better much better, always be on the lookout and never ever ever stand at the side or at the back like i am now because it's really really, i can tell you know it's not easy to create a gorgeous style when you're not in the right position. I think maybe a little bit these curls up better, that blonde one that extension there's not quite the right color. You can see it's going to slightly fly away almost what we need to do and that's without pulling our fingers through the hair. Almost what we need to do. That'S a better curl there is when you get to the end, is come back, go over the curls with a little bit of curl cream re-curl, any sections that need that have gone a little bit straight. Better and just kind of polish get everything kind of polished and finished whoops, but that can take a little bit of time. I think we're almost there. Let'S get some gorgeous little accessories in that's it. I'M going to do my little up and over technique to make sure everything's, nice and secure. So this is without any kind of padding we've got in here. Maybe we could, even if we should use our little vine, maybe we'll do our little hair pins actually pop them in and just position. That'S going to look gorgeous so we've got our gorgeous tumbling, half up, half down style, that's it with lots of gorgeous curls and some pretty little sparkly bits in at the back. So i hope you have enjoyed tonight's tutorial. It'S been quite quick to say, you know a lot of this time when in the prep and of course you would spend a bit longer if you were um. Let me just bring her forward, so you can see maybe even bring some of these curls back. Let me just lift her up a little bit, so you can see, might bring a few of these curls back just a little bit more, so it looks like they're barely being held in place, but it all looks gorgeous and just gently swept into position. So have a little plane. Sometimes another thing you could do as well is you can save a couple of extensions if you've got a couple of kind of extra extensions, let me just get this bobby pin you can always if you feel when you get to the end here, you think i Could just do it like an extra curl just maybe here then you can just add an extra extension in just to fill in any little spaces that you think might need it. So, let's just get this curl back into shape. Again, that's better much better lovely! So i could fiddle for another kind of hour here: we've got one little curl there that's a bit longer than the rest, and we don't really want that and uh. But yeah we've got our gorgeous kind of tumbling half up style, with lots of gorgeous beautiful curls. Perfect for long thick, heavy hair or for your ladies who are more follicly, challenged, just put the extensions in that i have today. So thank you for joining me.
