Alexa Chung Hair Tutorial How To Get A 60S Look | Alexachung

Happy Mid-October everyone! This week is the last in my hair tutorial series with my friend George Northwood aka Hair Stylist to the stars.

This week I he gives me a Half-Up-Half-Down hairstyle reminiscent of 1960s Goddess Brigitte Bardot. I also learned how to do my own back-combing. Let me know what you think! See you next week.

Hi everyone. It'S me Alexa Chung and I'm Georgia Northwood classic what a duo richard and judy eat your heart, and now i'm gon na get my boobs out in a second you by God anyway. So today, we're gon na do a half up half down situation, yeah, which is something that you've done for me for events. Yes, so it's quite nice because it's good for like a wedding or a party or somewhere, where you want to look a bit more polished, but not too ladylike, not too kind of mama SH yeah, it's kind of it keeps the kids got the casual feel of A down do but then, with some formality of an updo, it's literally half and half as miss half and half opened how it's having your cake and eating it. Well, let them eat cake. Let'S do this. Okay, so you've watched another video you've created some tongs presumptious. They might not watch the other video well. If they haven't they should they should just pause. Now, stop go much so the video and come back to this after okay and you're gon na have a wall having your own YouTube channel. Yes, I am when soon very soon new Darius you can already subscribe. I think yeah yeah and I should do that when I get home. Please do because there'll be more anything I can do on my phone can't do it now: okay, half-up half-down! Yes, what we created the tongue already you've put a wave in it. The most important areas to tongue around the face. Yes, so get your tonguing done, do the top and then what we're gon na do is we're gon na. Do some back combing so always think when back combing? Where do I want the height to see it? Where do I want volume in the hair, so we want volume in the crown, so what I'm gon na do is I want to look like. Obviously, this is not achievable for me as a slightly Asian Brit, but I would call it like a 1960s Brigitte Bardot. Please, oh wow, yeah. You do that! Look! Well! Okay! So back combing we're gon na hold our section up. You then you'll spray, some form of any form of hairspray or texture spray in at the roof. So you can spray this in like this, because if you don't put the product in it gets too slippery. Okay, it's back home! I'M gon na give you a back home tip you go into the hair and push down into the hair. Push down, you don't go up and down. You just go into the hair and down ah yeah. If you go up and down you kind of undo it and then almost good back combing should almost sort of stand on. It should feel like almost a bit of a Something About Mary yeah totally, so we're gon na do that. I'M then gon na take the next section back here again we're just working around the sort of crown area. Can I have it a bit of the sides as well, because I've got a long head yeah. Let'S talk about you because you like height you like a bit of width, don't you it's like a girl, you, like girth, I know you're a girth girl, yeah, okay, yeah, we'll do that for sure. So I'm gon na back home here and it's really easy to do on yourself. Do you want to have a go? Okay, this is quite cool. I look like a horse. Okay and then we're gon na do this next section. Here I see there was i bragging that I'm not gray - and I just saw a couple of silvers poking up now. Also I've got a tan in the middle of my hair yeah. This happens a lot. Actually I'm seeing a lot of tanned partings at the moment. It was clear and goes on. A tan party and party you've got a lovely to keep a V. I always say, keep a V, because you want this V section yeah, so you're gon na keep it intervene. Am I doing this? You are doing this. Should i spray it for you yeah, you should spray, so you've got your spray, you spray it. Okay, you right or left hand you don't remember in and down you've done it in and down in and down yeah cool! Well ready to go. Do you know what I want to do is here? Do it just go for it come on. Do your thing great and then that's good, so you didn't brush it smooth afterwards, you back home, then you brush it smooth. Then do the next bit well she's on a roll fabulous. Can this be the thumbnail? Please it's great! Oh! You need that. No okay! So that's actually fine. You'Ve done that's enough, and so we've created the height. Then you want to get like a bristle brush and we're just gon na smooth over the top section a bit because it, the back combing, makes it quite sort of tangle II and yeah. It'S a bit messy. So then we just smooth over the top layer great and then now take the bits of the head that you want back. You want forward because every I find every girl's got different, how you know so I kind of say well, did you like a bit of hair over your ears? Don'T you and that sort of thing you like a bit of width girth, I don't know. Sometimes I don't mind my ears, and sometimes I do my my ears, but today a medium about them. Okay and we've actually chosen a hairband that matches your dress. I know I would prefer ribbon, but we forgot to bring it yeah. So now George is upselling an elastic band as the chicest item de jour, but really it's because it's all of us in his kit ribbon you've done quite a few ribbon moments. The other excuse was that ribbon might be a bit. Much of this dress. It'D be quite neither be quite Picnic at Hanging Rock, which was one of the refs okay. So now we're gon na you could, even if you wanted as well we're gon na do a pony, but you could do a little half-up half-down buns. This is actually be a little bun nice with the pony. I think pony looks nice, but I'm just saying as an option and then we do the pony and then what another little trick to do is back home under the pony like this to give the pony a little bit of so, it looks like a pony. That'S great, and then, though I always think the last thing to do is because I think people are quite scared of their own hair, just look at it, and then you always do this. You pull out the bits that you want. You always got pull it out afterwards, yeah pretty. Thank you so much for watching make sure that you subscribe ring. The bell comment like this is George North. What Alexa Chung over tell us what you want to see next and out it does. He know

deanarys62: not to be dramatic but this channel is really a dream come true!

CJ: She's effortlessly cool. Even though she's young enough to be my daughter, I love watching her posts. She appears to like vintage style & creates a great blend of fashions past with the present. ❤

Selena Danson: I love how she flattened it down afterwards whilst scooping her hair back, undoing all of George's work.

Diane Hutchinson: Possibly a dumb question but can we get a video on what to do AFTER you've back combed your hair? Cuz my hair is always a legit tangled up mess afterwards and it stops me from doing it in the first place...

Sala: I’m obsessed with Alexa’s YouTube videos it’s the only thing I live for these days tbh

maybememory1: Love it! This has been my go-to for years, but I curl it a bit, pull half back, twist it, push it upwards and secure it with a barrette, then pull bits looser. Pushing it up and pulling bits looser creates that beehive look without needing to back-comb, then you just spray it and go. Much easier to do as a lazy day hairstyle!

ocandro: The only person who made a successful, non cringy transition to YouTube from traditional media. Also, finally we have a beautuber with taste, in the sea of orange valley girls in drag makeuuuuup *vocal fry*

smartypantswastaken: Not gonna lie, those AC videos are quickly becoming my favorite thing on YouTube; they're now kinda an immediate click & watch as soon as they pop up in my feed.

Glen Coco: I would love to see Alexa try on a bunch of crazy wigs!!! I short pink one like Natalie Portman in Closer, or a black bob with strong fringe like Natalie Portman in Leon, The Professional... I sense a pattern

Rotten Cat: WHAT KIND OF A HUMAN YOU ARE ?!! EVERYTHING YOU DO SUITS YOU SO WELL !!

Harriet Li: An amazing hair tutorial! Love you both so much.

Kim Gelvin: LOVE IT! NEED IT IN MY LIFE. My hair is getting really long and I feel like it needed this class. Ta!

Toni Webb: Thank you, Alexa, for these great style videos!

MAYKING: George! I'd love to see a tutorial for those of us who have 4 times as much thick, partially thick hair. We are MANY (as this video addresses 'Caucasian hair‍♀️ )and we have such a hard time trying to control our unruly manes.

Lyndsey Fifield: Everything she posts is just perfect.

Hannah Doidge: Would love to see a straight hair look that isn't flat /too sleek. I have very fine, thin hair - whenever I wear it straight it just goes so flat and tends to look greasy so quickly! X

Patricia F: I was working and turning out these styles at the time. My favourite tool was a tail comb, in those times we (the hairdressers in my salon) would cut every second tooth in the comb to half way and that would produce a fantastic teasing comb. I always used a hard comb not a soft bendy one. Tease and then brush lightly with a small thin brush, and spray after not before with strong hair lacquer. Every weekend i would do loads of 'up dos" with curls on top or curls down the back or a lovely french roll. Now I remember fondly.

Paula Castello de Carvalho: I Love everything about the sixties and this hair is Awesome !! Thank you!

akualikewater: I love doing this bump up down look with my natural hair

Vivian Stone: More Alexa & George please (ie: hair tutorials - their simply just aren't enough).

Laura Marazzi: Love this! You guys are hilarious together!

Farah Sharghi: More please! Love the hair tutorials

Angie: She can do everything she wants and looks perfect.

Maggie Harding: Not even 20 seconds in and I’m already laughing, I love you guys together <3

myutube: This is EXACTLY what I’ve been hoping to find - some day. Finally! Thank you @alexachung

Loraine K.: George makes me happy in these videos. He seems like such a lovely soul! Would love him as friend!

Karina: These videos are amazing..short but they get to the point. I'd watch anything tbh, but definitely more hair videos lol

Nabila: Hi Alexa, a fan from Malaysia here. Please do more easy peasy quick makeup videos. Love ya

Andrea L: I love this look but there is no way I can do that alone with my hair

Andrea H: I look at these hair style tutorials from Alexa and envy “delicate” hair. I have super thick hair and a lot of it....it’s too much to do any of this.

Elaine Kommenge: Sitting in a waiting room watching this video and literally crying laughing. Thanks! I needed that.

Alexa Style Book: You are a STYLE ICON Alexa xoxo

Hannah Pryor: Apparently I've been going for a 60's look for every special occassion I''ve gone to that requires me to do my hair

Samantha girl: Love this Duo!! Would love to see how to achieve natural waves .. easiest way possible

Chelsea: I would love to see George do a modern chignon on you. x

dontcallmeniceim: Your pace of uploading videos is really nice Alexa NEVER STOP

Emilyy500: This GUY ahh he’s great! This is how hair stylists should be! When he was getting Alexa to do her own hair at the front and he didn’t know how to say it “I find every girl’s got a different - how - you know, so I kind of say ..” ahhhh I’m in love Can I have him please

Jade Dias: George is too adorable. I'm in love.

atiqah sulaiman: I LOVE YOUUUU.... CAN WE GET A SKINCARE ROUTINE ALREADY ALEXA!

akualikewater: Hey everyone it’s me Akua and I am totally in love with this look!

Colette: I think a clear elastic hairband would work better for this style. I know since it is my go-to hairstyle. I do it without backcombing since I have thick hair, but I also don't like my hair to be too poofy. I do mine primarily with straight hair since I'm to lazy or busy to curl.

Nadine Tonn: Yes, I need this in my life! AC strikes again. <3

C: Can you do one on how you style your short hair without heat!? You are the queen of short hair

Shumyla Afzal: Your face is literally reflecting light.. touchwood.. please share your skincare routine

sandy j: Would LOVE a video of how you get your hair cut especially those bangs! Love these videos!

Mel Rehder: love love love Alexa’s channel ✨

Stephanie M: To be truthfully honest I’m just here for the ever so adorable George

Lizeth Fernández: I always look for inspo from Alexa for my next halloween -not overly sexualized-costume so... Halloween costume ideas next please?

Soraya: if I don’t become alexa chung’s bestfriend within this lifetime I would’ve failed as a human bean

MrsBungle78: These styles look great until you leave the house. Then they fall & you’re left with a limp pony, leaving you looking like a middle aged waitress at a truck stop somewhere in Texas.

Sherwina Magasa: I dont do my hair cause im wearing a hijab, but i cant stop watching alexas hair videos haha

universe amor: obsessed with this channel to be honest

Andrea Ortíz Martínez: this is the content I've been looking for my whole life

Erica Robbin: I was feeling ambitious and took the scissors to my waist length hair this morning. It''s now about your length. It's uneven and I haven't had it this short in years and kind of want to cry. Hopefully I will try a variation of this using overnight braids for curls and love it tomorrow.

Kendra Coleman: Love this!!I want to go and be french so bad

Christine Decroos: Can you show us how to get messy waves w/o tonging? Sort of a "go to bed with wet hair, wake up wavy". Is that a thing?

Joshua Martinez: Do an updo next!! Love
