When it comes to our tresses, moisture is key! This means that it’s important to keep our hair moisturized and treated consistently to keep it at its healthiest. If it seems like your wash day regimen isn’t doing the trick and you need a little extra help, try one of these three over night treatments for a visible difference!

Greenhouse Effect (GHE)

The Greenhouse Effect (also known as the GHE) is one of the best ways to help add more moisture to your hair and it’s also one of the simplest.

All you need is water and a shower cap*. At night, lightly dampen your hair with water from a spray bottle. You only want enough to lightly dampen your hair, you don’t want it to be soaking wet.

Place the shower cap on top, and for extra heat, put a satin bonnet* over the shower cap*. Go to sleep for the night, and your entire head will be wet from the combination of sweating and water. Follow up with the remainder of your LOC method to seal in moisture. Add this step to your regimen once or twice a week for the best results.

Oil

Oil treatments are amazing because oils* can provide so many different benefits to hair, and they’re all relatively cheap.

You can use oils to pre-poo before washing, by applying the oil of your choice to wet or dry hair. Leave it in overnight then rinse out in the morning before your shampoo and conditioner to make detangling way easier! Pre-pooing with oil will also leave your hair softer and shinier.

Shea Butter*

Shea butter* is an excellent overnight treatment for all hair types. If you have fine hair, no worries! You can apply shea butter as a pre-poo or deep conditioner*.

I personally make my own DIY shea butter mix (with a few essential and carrier oils*). Afterwards, my hair feels super moisturized and there’s literally no frizz. You can’t beat that!

These over night treatments are some of my favorites, because no extra product is needed and the ingredients are natural.

Using certain conditioners over night can lead to build up or overconditioned hair (hair that’s too soft or limp). A consistent addition of these treatments to your hair over time will definitely show great results!
