As much as some of us may be product junkies, there comes the moment when we realize that not all products work for our hair all of the time.

The truth is after some time, all this leads to is a closet full of unnecessary items that take up space. But, after spending your money on purchasing the product in the first place, you know without a doubt that you’re not just going to toss them in the garbage. So what do you do?Below are three ideas that you can use when it’s time to sort through your product stash. They’re all alternatives to throwing products out and wasting money. Comment below and let us know what you do with your old products!Re-purpose productsWhat do I mean by re-purpose? Find something else to do with it! You may notice that a deep conditioner* works better as a rinse out, or a butter can be mixed with a gel to give you the hold and definition that you need. You can also add certain ingredients to your products (like extra oils*, aloe vera, etc) to give them the extra benefits that you need. Get creative, and you never know what you can come up with!Product SwapThe next best thing to do with unwanted products is to give them a better home by exchanging with someone. Getting some other products to try in the process is just an added bonus in the bargain.Find friends that you can swap products with, or look for product swap events that are going on for your next opportunity to give and get some products. Normally in product swaps you can trade a product for each one that you receive, and you can potentially make some new friends in the process.Give them awayIf you can’t find a product swap event, or you don’t want the responsibility of organizing one, you can go the altruistic route and just give your products away.I normally give my products to close friends that have different hair textures; I give lighter products to my friends with type 3 hair, and heavier products to my friends with type 4 hair, because I find that my hair type is right in the middle. You may be the reason your friend finds their new staple product! You can also donate products to homeless and women’s shelters. They can always use donations, and its a nice gesture that you’ll never regret! Some way or another, the stash has to get cleaned out ever so often to make space for new goodies. Don’t clutter your drawers with things you know you’ll never use again, and be happy knowing that they were put to good use. What do you do with your unwanted products?
