You know what i actually don't like. This might be a little controversial, tiny sunglasses. I think the sweater vessel needs to die. It'S valenciaga's fault, controversial topic, they're, looking at me like if you're crocheting butterfly tops, go to hell. The really tiny fluffy bags make me so concerned for society. I don't want to be offensive so hello and welcome to the fit one of the biggest fashion colleges in new york today, we're here to ask the cool kids, what trends they think need to die in 2022.. This video is completely irrelevant, so just wear whatever the you want, but i thought it'd be a cool discussion, so comment down below which one do you hope doesn't die in 2022 and let's see what they have to say. I never owned one and i will never own one um, i think they're cute, i mean i saw a really cute one on the street. That'S like chic, older upper east side. Lady was carrying one with like a leather handle and it was like dip dyed orange. It was really weird i liked it like that, but the really cheap shedding like tiny ones, then - maybe not, i don't know i think, with covet 2, that we were all moving back into like practicability in what we wear rather than being super uncomfortable. I don't know with the latest seasons that just came out for spring summer too, like we're also going the opposite direction, where we're showing a lot like wearing, really short things like with the mummy skirts. That was the whole thing um, but i hope we go towards like comfortability again those bags seriously those bags like i'm not even getting crumples up and it gets dirty and there's like dust stuck on it. I don't own one but they're all right. I think they're really cute, i like them. I like a change in texture. I don't really like them. I feel like they're they're like a little uncomfortable to me. I don't like the texture. It'S like a carpet kind of reminds me of yeah. I think they're cute comfy, i think pulley bags are fun yeah. I love tiny dogs, those bags yeah, i mean i'm not like super mad about them, but i think that they're gon na die out just because they're like a little bit tacky, but i think, if done the right way like little ones, could be really cute. I think they need to die mainly because um sheen has taken over the really tiny fluffy bags make me so concerned for society. Sometimes sometimes they can't even like fit your phone, and it's like you, put your bag on like the floor. Okay, like you get unless you're like that person that like goes to school and like has it on the table, i see people on the subway with their like fluffy bags on the floor, and it's like i was going to get something i'm here for it. I love it, love a good cowboo. I don't own any yeah. I think it's just like a thing that people just hop on the bandwagon and start wearing, but i i can see you dying next year, i'm into fringe. I was on tumblr when tumblr was like a bad place to be at so lana's el rey in that music, video, where she has that white jacket that has a bunch of fringe on it. I was so into it and i'm still looking for it. I'M not really into it personally, but i think i can appreciate it yeah i love fringe. A good fringe is so dramatic and cool the movement. Ah, i like crochet, i like the like the furry crochet more than like the knitted ones, because i feel like it's just more comfortable yeah and like the little like animal crochet, hats, those are so cute. I like it. I like people make their own. I think that's fun i like crochet, but i don't think it needs to be everything and i feel, like people think that it needs to be everything, and i think it's also hard to get like flattering shapes with crochet. I think it adds like dimension to a lot of outfits and it's really cool for like layering yeah like it just it can't be everything yeah crochet stuff, if you're, not cool like if you're crocheting butterfly, tops, go to hell and die like homie, but it's fine. That'S fine in certain occasions, like yeah, it's very like granny, vibes, okay, i'm not hitting on the granny. My psychiatrist literally told me to crochet to deal with my issues. Crochet stuff, i think that's really fun and you can like make it your own and stuff love. Crochet crochet is a good trend, yeah a lot of people like start their businesses. That way - and i like crochet, i really like crochet - i mean i like the fact that it's something you can do yourself and really create your own style from it and create exactly what you imagine. So i'm a big fan. I love your hat so that y2k trend, but it's like you just shop for like a short little tennis, skirt and then just like a crop top and then like platform boots. I feel like. If we're going to do y2k, we need to do it fully like destiny's child. I think y2k is really cute, but people don't do it the right way. Yeah they buy y2k on sheen. I'M like that's not why it's okay, but you just have to like get actual early 2000s pieces from like ebay default whatever, but like finding like the baby tees from like these fast fast fashion. Websites are not cute. No, like that's not y2k, yeah yeah like buying like dead stock y2k is so amazing, and i love when people actually like. Do it the right way. I appreciate it. I feel, like all decades, have their own type of thing. Controversial topic, they're. Looking at me, okay y2k, i think, like white fashion, influencers have taken over the y2k aesthetic. So it's it's become that and it's no longer like a part of like hip hop culture, in my opinion, okay, think about getting hit by like a big truck. That'S what i feel from that rocks, i'm not a huge fan of like i'm, not mad about them right, i'm just like. I don't feel like it's necessary. I don't know yeah. No, i feel like some people, like style them really cute, but not in a way where i'm like. Oh, like i need crocs like it's valenciaga's fault, because they made that dumbass stiletto and like someone should shut them down just because of the croc stiletto. Did you see that uh they need to stay? I love a good sweater vest. Yes, sweater vests, i've worn them like years ago, and i still think it's a good look like. I don't think it's a trend. It'S just like one of the basics now yeah. So i own two and i think with like most things: if you style it correctly, it can be fine. I don't think that i have like too much to say about the sweater vest, but i do think it's gon na die out. I think the sweater vessel needs to die. Yours is cute, though i like sweater, i wear them a lot. I think they could be really cool for layering, but i think more for the winter and if you wear like baggy, i think baggy t-shirts under sweater vest. Look really cool like a whole baggy. Look, i'm not a huge fan of the classic, like sweater vest with like the the pleated skirt. I love sweater vests. Oh, i love them because i'm kind of short so that better not die. Love platforms. Oh my god. I'M actually wearing some right now so yeah. I love them. Okay! Well, i'm wearing platform shoes, so i'm into them, i'm not into naked wolf, though, because that logo is crazy. It'S like this big on a shoe. That'S already that big platform shoes they can stay. Yes, add extra high to all the short girls and it's cute yeah, that's all i wear. I feel like it's good for people who want to look taller and i think i really think it's a good look. I like that bulky platform. Look that's all i wear! So i hope it never dies, even if it dies, i'm still gon na be wearing it trend in 2022. That needs to die. Is the dunk hype that shit's over no more dunks we're done with that pockets everywhere, like pockets, pockets, pockets? How many pockets can a person use? You know um the chunky rings, skinny jeans. I mean i feel like it's already on its way out, but like colorful chunky, resin rings um. I don't know if it's still a thing, but clay rings. Is that still a thing belts with jeans that are already tight around the waist? Make me sick, tiny sunglasses? They were definitely popular for a minute, but i think right now it should be more like like oversized, which i think has a more like a like. A classic look and then it's more like badass, you know it's like covering most of your face. I think people who wear heels or platforms that can't walk in them need to stop just wear something comfortable like i don't need you to like waddle around town like i want no more balenciaga, you know what i actually don't like. This might be a little controversial. I don't like the the when you wear like a long sleeve shirt and then the like the dress over it like a light like a night gown kind of thing over, like a tight-knit shirt like slip, dresses yeah like that the beaded necklaces have to be out Absolutely gone and two arts also another trend that i think is dying that i want to die out is like sticking to one aesthetic. I just feel like you should just mix everything together, like that looks way, cooler, no exactly it's like more authentic, because there's no way that, like i mean at least personally, i don't wake up every single day wanting to dress the same. It'S like, based on my emotion how i'm feeling that day, because fashion is expressive wearing baggy, stuff underneath and then baggy on the top. That is kind of like an eyesore. In my opinion, yeah um, i don't know if they're necessarily going to die. I just want them to die the prada back, the one that has the tiny bag hanging off of it. The other day i was at work, and i saw a girl with these tiny prada bags around her nike airs, and it was terrifying. The tights that have the gucci logo on them, the black ones, the whole like whale tail thing it does depend on the pants being worn, combining like prints over prints over prints. I love your creativity, but then, at the same time, cut it in, like simplicity, is always like the best one. Yes, you have a print on your shirt. chronoshio: i don't crochet, but i think crochet is one of the best trends that became popular this year. it's super accessible way to start making your own clothes, and making something for yourself to wear can actually be so special. i feel like it makes you appreciate the process of creating clothes (or creating in general) more, which is something that gets forgotten with fast fashion my best friend gifted me a crocheted plushy and it's my favourite gift ever because i can feel how much effort and love is put into it. it's "granny" because it's made with love!!

miraclename: Fashion student here: None. Trends are never over because they will eventually come back. It doesn't matter how you dress yourself as long as it fits your tastes and makes you feel confident and beautiful. I'm over the whole "but it's not trendy anymore-". I've been dressing like I want to for years. It took me a while to find what I'm comfortable in, but my style was never a trend to begin with. I've honestly come to a point where I hate the fashion industry and its messages. I want to be part of a change.

horizon: I love fashion, it's a celebration of our expression. But the way some people are _extremely_ aggressive over something as simple as crochet keeps me out from "participating in talks". This level of superiority complex makes us (introverted not shy) types never open up to speak our minds. Fashion is an art and you need to have an open mind. Of course, some things are subjective but you can always state your preferences and then make space for others. This isn't a debate b/w Republicans vs Democrats, chill out.

M: Some of these answers were very respectful and insightful! Like the lack of black fashion people in the y2k revival and the erasure of hip hop is so true! But others just sounded very immature. I guess that’s where a lot of college students are at in life so it makes sense. If people can’t walk in heals then every time they do they’re gonna get better, it’s called practice. Not everyone has to be perfect or able to walk like a model in order to wear what they want. Some of these comments are so silly and judgey. You just know that as these people grow up they’ll realize being to stringent about what other people do isn’t it. Fashion should be about creation, expression, and utility. Not about conforming to what a 22 year old thinks!
l33tsk33t: As much as I loved the commentary and insight from these students, my main takeaway is how stressful it must be to care about the tiniest details to the point that you wish someone would go die because they're into crochet at worst, or find myself extremely uncomfortable being around someone because of the size of their purse at best. Fashion really should serve the wearer first and onlooker second - I wish more people had that mindset.

(ง︡'-'︠)ง: I don't think sweater vests will ever die out. They just rotate into different social cliques every decade. In the 80s, it was for the "nerds". In the 70s, it was for the fashionable working class. In the 50s/60s, it was for the clean cut folks. 70s fashion just made a comeback this decade so it's seen as fashionable again.
miri: baggy bottoms with baggy tops will never not be cool. the “trend” was started by the black hip hop community in the 90s and will always be iconic

Atiya C: I don’t know if anyone else picked up on this but most if not all of the trends they’re discussing relates to womenswear or women’s fashion. It’s like I do get where they’re coming from but why do we heavily critique women for wearing certain things? Like that guy who said he didn’t like the tight long sleeve top underneath the slip dress like maybe some women don’t want to show their arms or dress a little more modestly or warm. There’s such an underlying misogyny to fashion as well. Menswear isn’t half as criticised and it’s much less innovative and creative than womenswear.

White Caramel: I think that with the whole pandemic situation people are definitely paying more attention to comfort and practicality so that girl who mentioned it was right, also lots of people lost their jobs because of it and spending ridiculous amounts of money on ridiculous items looks pretty stupid if you ask me, crocheting is also a super cool way to save money on fashion and to express yourself, not to mention that its more eco friendly and we are definitely also paying attention to that, finally, yes, balenciaga needs to stop the clownery

honeyy: as someone who just enjoys fashion, I think next year doing your own thing, mixing styles and being bold will be the "trend", I've been seeing a lot of 90's Japanese fashion, colorful mesh tops, camp y2k shirts and layering, experimenting is so cool and I'm here for it regardless if it becomes a trend or not.
Candii Rabbit: I kinda agree with the “don’t stick to one aesthetic” because some people think that they NEED to only dress one way instead of enjoying a variety of styles or combining and making it uniquely tailored to yourself. Someone complimented my style at work and said that she wanted to dress more fashionably too but isn’t sure which style she wants to pick. If you want to always dress one way, go ahead, no problem, but if you feel like experimenting that’s also not a problem. I think people get overwhelmed and forget that fashion is an art where you can express yourself and not have to always follow the rules of one style. How do you think we get new styles?
Jenny M: It’s so important to just wear what you like and let others do the same without being condescending or judgmental. It’s a good thing that we all have different tastes because the variety keeps fashion interesting. It isn’t going to be as engaging or fun if we’re limiting ourselves to trends and to the opinions of other people.

XxKaedexX: I totally agree with not sticking to one aesthetic! You shouldn't just stick to one aesthetic! Some days I dress gothic, e-girl, punk, and other days I dress indie, Y2k, academia, etc... It's quite funny to see the reactions of people at school and I agree it's funny that one day I dress in gothic clothe and the other day I dress in cute clothing. The aesthetic you choose to wear doesn't matter. What matters is how you style it.
Stephanie Silberg: I absolutely LOVE baggy underneath and baggy on top. I think it looks cool and also it makes people who are body conscious feel more confident and comfortable to look stylish but without having to show too mush skin or wear stuff that are tight. It’s also like very grunge and just overall very comfortable
Bluckamey: Looking at their outfits, I couldn't help but think that It's crazy how much fashion styles change from place to place. It's so objective, which is a big reason I am in the "wear what you want" crowd.
Nina Torres: I'm not a fashion student but I do love it a lot and personally, I think a part of loving fashion is exploring absolutely everything. How are you going to make any revolutionary look if you're so limited to what the world should look like in any way? The beauty of dressing up is for everyone to do it differently.
Honore Nelson: The evolution and adaption of trends is so fascinating, I love hearing the different opinions! I understand what most of these students are coming from, when a trend is oversaturated and co-opted by fast fashion websites they immediately become less appealing. But that begs the question of affordability and class relations. Did we like the trend because it was flattering, or because it was exclusive to higher-income individuals, thus creating the illusion of the trend being upscale and hard to obtain? Obviously, fast fashion is extremely unethical and creates large-scale waste, but it's a fact that it makes trends cycles more accessible to lower-income individuals. To agree with a lot of the comments already posted, I strongly believe that people should follow their own compass and wear what they like/are comfortable in. That being said, I think we're going to see a lot of a-line mini skirts, mohair/knitwear, suits, excessive layering, fur-lined aviator jackets, and the continuation of prep and cottage core in 2022. But I think these are going to be incorporated more as wardrobe staples rather than actual trends.
Belle: Ok but why do people have to take everything so seriously, the whole point of fashion is to express yourself, even if something isn’t functional doesn’t mean you need to be marrow minded, just do what feels true to you and don’t judge others

I can't believe in 2021 women still don't get good pockets on all their clothes, and still need to carry a handbag to compensate for the lack of practicality of their wardrobe. In 2022, I vote for pockets on most women clothing, like skirts, dresses, cardigans, vests, coats! and not just condom size ones XD

Prerana Joshi: I'm also a fashion student and I was sad to see minimalism die out this year. i mean ofc minimalism restricts a lot of creative freedom for designers, but it is much better for the planet. i think that's more a priority in fashion now, than anything else.

Some of this is venting, joking, and hyperbole, and some of it is advice/commentary on trends from their perspective. They’re just giving their opinion, not intending for everything they say to be taken as a rule.
Paige 0: As an older person this has made me realize NEVER throw away your old clothes cause they will come back in style 10-20 years from now
Haley H: when I finally got to a point where I could unapologetically and confidently wear whatever I want felt so good and I’ve never looked back since!! that being said I appreciate trends in the sense that sometimes they get me to think of pieces/outfits that were never on my personal radar and sometimes gets me to try something out of my comfort zone, I think in the past few years I’ve also gotten better at determining whether I like something because it’s “trendy” or I genuinely want to incorporate it into my wardrobe. also, if you want to cycle your style and change it up thrifting/donating/selling is such a great way cause things aren’t going to waste and you can do it fairly often with minimal environmental impact! :)

I’m 52 and could be their mom, and I don’t want to sound too corny, but I’m a cornball, so… They just made me feel proud. I don’t really know why. I just smiled the whole way through this video. They’d probably pick my style apart (hahaha) but my grade school kiddos still think I’m pretty hip.

reallymagnolia: Damn so many rules! I like to just have fun with fashion and wear what I think looks good and feels fun to wear. As you get older you realise trends come and go so flippantly, it’s not worth buying into them unless you genuinely love an item of clothing and will wear it beyond the “trend” period.
darniella dd: I love sweater vests. I've always been drawn to that cozy style and preppy look and sweater vests do both of those things. People don't like sweater vests because they've been oversaturated but there's nothing inherently wrong or ugly about them. I've been wearing them for years and I'm not stopping.
Danielle Apple: I can't really get behind skinny jeans entirely dieing out. During the winter oversized sweaters look best with skinny jeans, and they provide warmth.

WaveyBreeze: As someone who is interested in fashion, a lot of the things that are considered “trendy” have been around during different decades, like sweater vests and cowboy/cowgirl boots. It’s so easy and versatile to style with sweater vests because it can be worn with a t-shirt or turtle neck. Then cowboy/cowgirl boots have always been popular and are now worn through everyday wear which is iconic, it makes your outfit just pop.
Zion Meier: Wearing baggy on baggy clothes is a confidence booster for me. I grew up in a church were woman were expected to wear extremely modest clothing but my Mom always pressured me to be modest yet attractive. She would pressure me to wear tons of makeup and was always trying to get me to balance on the thin line of “trendy yet modest.” If I ever messed up and wore something too form fitting or too trendy she’d get angry. When I started wearing baggy on baggy fashion I was in love. That style of fashion with chains and whatnot repelled old men from my church like you would not believe. I get to focus soley on the clothes and not hyper-fixate on my body and how it is being perceived which feels so freeing to me. And my family/church can’t be angry to my face because guess what, I’m still being modest! It’s a win win.

TaeJin trash: Trends are honestly a good way to introduce clothing/accessories that weren't really on certain people's radar before. And people are free to just pick and choose which ones to wear and keep and which ones to hate and avoid.
EM: Makes me sad that they hate on the things that are big amongst small businesses. The crochet, beaded necklaces, and clay rings. I kinda blame fast fashion for that one because the quality and style is poo poo.
Letrice Allia: I personally like the tight shirts with a spaghetti strap dress over it ever since the 90s. Layering your clothes can bring different textures and dimensions to the overall outfit.

Also i think it's important to remember for anyone criticizing/critiquing anybody in the video that these are all people who are vulnerable and in an interview and it can be intimidating to try and sell yourself in the context of YOUR FUTURE FIELD OF WORK. Sometimes I want to feel badass and wear all black and my Doc's and some days I want to wear a flouncy dress with a petticoat underneath. The two style couldn't be more different, and since I don't always dress in the more girly style people always joke about it when I put on something really nice. It makes me feel like I need to dress a certain way.

seojvnny: I think trends are unnecessary. although generally we can't actually stop them since it keeps the fashion industry going i just think that we shouldn't base our WHOLE selves to that (you do you tho) like it really doesn't matter if you just wanna wear a basic simple white tee and shorts or be dramatic and wear fancy clothes but if you can see it its actually about the confidence. like for example, when you're wearing fancy clothes than "basic" and you act shy it would just look like a forced look after all because people would look at you for being not confident compared to when you're actually comfortable or confident in what you're wearing people won't care more because they think you're just another "normal person" plus they could also take a glance and check you out (or outfit) because they see you being confident overall! confidence really is the key really tbh. if you don't wanna blend in then don't force yourself, even if you DONT blend in don't change that and just be you. like yknow, express what you want and don't listen to anyone that's bashing you for no reason. be creative, be you

So yeah if you don’t like it you’re NOT wearing it righ. Or you don’t have it.
Kyrridwen: I love medium height platforms, as a disabled person they are some of the only heels that I feel comfortable and safe wearing and they're becoming more versatile so you can wear them with lots of styles. We love inclusive fashion
urlocalweeb: I remember when I was like 10 or 11 my mom got me this really cute leather purse with fringes on it and I absolutely adored it. I had even bought a matching leather jacket with it a few weeks after and wore that outfit everywhere. Sadly we seem to have lost the purse a couple years ago and we donated the leather jacket too so I'm a bit sad about it. Hopefully I can find it soon and give it to my younger sister
