Okay, so you want to know about 20 21 hair trends, cutting trends. What do you expect to see? What do you want to stay on top of, and where are we mount hood? Where, in my hood, i don't - i don't remember, she has no idea, hey kev, but we do have this guy with us that just hurt a dog come on. Buddy he's excited we're excited, so uh yeah, let's hop into some trends, my okay. So, first of all i got to preface this video by saying i don't typically subscribe to the idea that you need to be focused on the trends, because if a trend doesn't make sense for you or if it doesn't look good on you, you shouldn't do it. Just because it's a trend right, maybe a mohawk is a trend, but if you're gon na look ridiculous in a mohawk and you're, not gon na feel confident, don't do a mohawk. But with that said, there are trends and i do think there are ways that you can adapt the trends to work for you so that you stay current and still feel confident and love your hair. So in this video, not only am i going to talk to you about trends, i'm also going to do what i don't see, people doing, which is give you insight on who these trends are for and how you can make them work for you. So, let's dive into the first trend - and i am coming at you hard out of the gate first trend - that you're gon na see this year - is a full-on mullet. Yeah, like i'm not talking about like some modernized mullet, i'm talking about hardcore rocker mullets are like a thing this year. That would you wear mullet? No, why not? I always make fun of them. If i'm honest in the videos, you see it'll look like a mullet, but there are people that can wear them and, typically speaking, if you're somebody that's super edgy and you really like having that rockstar flare now's the time that you can get away with rocking a Mullet and it can be kind of cool. True right. True, am i off on that? No, so we're kind of mulling on you, no dude, i came out hard on this first tip face, does not have have the shape for to carry oh. No, it totally does my clothing. My outfit does not is not conducive to a mullet, so she brings up. The perfect point beat me to it. This is a big part of what's going to make something like this make sense. All of these trends, in my opinion, should be based a lot on the way you dress the way you present yourself and if they make sense for that, if you go to a nine-to-five job where you need to be super corporate, but you still like the idea Of rocking a mullet, we need to modernize that mullet or tame that mullet down a little bit so that you can still make it make sense with your nine-to-five job. I don't know if you've ever heard the saying, don't let the style where you wear the style. So yes, but don't take off because i said mullet as my very first trend. There are plenty of trends coming up even more. It seems a little extreme. I got you covered, don't stress it look at that view right so mount hood right there and a lake. I'M not even entirely sure what the lake is called. I think it's like enid or something like that. It'S a lake, okay, there's a lake here and there's a snowman right there that's way better than i could ever build okay anyway. So trend number two is all about going back to gray. Yes, gray, hair is going to be a big thing. We saw that a bit last year during covid, but it's going to be really kind of moving forward into 2021.. I think a lot of these trends. If i'm completely honest are based around what went on with the social distancing and the quarantining and all of that stuff from kovitz, so we're going to see a lot of stuff and i'll be talking about a lot of stuff. That kind of has a little bit of influence from being quarantined. So going gray is a big deal right now and i think it's actually really it's a cool thing because it used to be the stereotype behind gray, hair, really kind of lent itself more to the idea of aging and just kind of being older. And i think it was a very insecure or self-conscious thing for a lot of people to take that risk to be gray and now we're getting into a place where, if i'm honest, i feel like it shows a bit more of your confidence right. It'S the confidence to go gray and a lot of us were pushed into that because you didn't have a choice because you couldn't see a stylist but now they're embracing that and going for it. And i think that that's really cool now, who that's going to be good for first of all, i think, is going to be the person that is willing to set in that confidence the willing to look at that, ignore the old stereotypes and think hey. You know what i can rock this gray hair and i don't think it shows anything of the old stereotype of me being older. It shows me being confident standing tall and rocking something that looks amazing or you're. The type of person that just doesn't want to have any sort of maintenance, anymore, you're, sick of getting your hair color, constantly you're sick of all of that. Well then, it's perfect for you. While i've got you here, we might as well jump into the third trend that i think we're gon na see a lot of this year, which is all about medium length, hair and a lot of layering, especially layering. In the front now, we've seen a lot of the wavy curly kind of look for a long time. It'S been very popular and i don't think that's going anywhere. In fact, i can almost promise you it's not, but i think what we'll see is a slight shift in that and we're going to be seeing more stuff where it's a looser wave, a little bit more of a natural wave, very kind of relaxed and authentic, but Mainly with that front layers, the shorter ones, the kind of curtain bang length coming back off the face, it's got a throwback to the 70s to ferrofaucet. A lot of that look is gon na, be really cool, and i think a lot of people are gon na. Do it hey babe, come here, okay, would you wear the fair faucet thing back off your face that look for a faucet totally right? I think i'm already rocking it not totally we'll do it sometime, but you would wear it right totally yeah. It is going to be something that we're going to be seeing a lot of this year and i think it's going to be really popular. Look and it's soft and the great thing about the curtain, bang length and being brought off your face is even if you decide to not do go full force, fair faucet and try to bring it off your face. You'Re still going to have a lot of versatility with these pieces being a little bit shorter, not being so long and so heavy hey kev come on eat the bodyguards. So the next trend is all about big hair, yeah, big wavy curl. I think so think a textured version of the waves that are going on for the last couple of years that big open, loose wave think that but think much bigger. So if you've got wavy hair or if you add a lot of wave to your hair, giving it a little bit more of a disheveled, look, a little less polished and a little bit more volume and movement yeah, that's a great thing again. I think that kind of comes from the whole quarantine thing of people, maybe just sleeping on their hair and waking up and having a lot of that movement and that bigger hair. That'S where this is all headed from, i think so, yeah if you've got wave in your hair or you add, wave with a curling iron or a flat iron, just get it bigger and you're good to go. Now. There is one thing that i would kind of pay attention to if you're a smaller framed person, especially with very thick hair or a lot of hair, you may want to be a little bit thoughtful of this trend purely because, if you've got too much hair and You'Re smaller framed, it can end up being a scenario where your hair looks like it's wearing you, it's overpowering you, so that might be something you want to think about. However, if you're a smaller frame, you've got a lot of hair and you love to rock big hair rock it if it makes you feel good, do it the next trend kind of piggybacks off of that which is a lot of texture when i say texture what I mean is the natural texture, so some of us might look at it and go kind of a little bit, frizzy think about somebody with very curly hair and you go to bed you wake up in the morning. You got a little bit of extra texture and it's not quite as polished a lot of movement. That'S going to be a big trend, so it lends itself again to a little bit more of that slept on disheveled. Look it's great for people that one are struggling with a little bit of texture anyway. Well now, just know that it's a trend you're in style and two for people that have a lot of curl in their hair and a lot of movement in their hair. Already that's a great road for you to head down because yeah again it's a trend. Now, if you're a person, that's got longer even mid length and one length hair, you might want to pay attention to this. A little bit be a little bit shy of that trend, specifically because it can translate more like just frizz in your hair versus texture. This kind of style is great for people that have layers in their hair. Have a lot of movement. Have a lot of texture cut into their hair already and then you're just allowing that to have a little bit more of a slept on your shovel look. So yes, keep that in mind all right, i'm gon na get back to enjoying this incredible little stream. We got here and hoping that i don't fall in it because that's highly likely i'm gon na do we can't cross that, oh heavens, your feet might get dirty kevin. Are you really like that concerned about crossing a mud puddle right now? Oh my gosh, okay. So the next trends are all about a really big trend that we started seeing during quarantine and that is home haircuts, so yeah a lot of people turn to doing their hair at home. I mean i have an entire master class that i created. For that specific reason and the reason i created the master class to teach people actually how to do all of the things at home, the right way, yeah shameless plug link in description to a webinar free webinar, learn all about the mistakes that happen. When you do your hair at home and how to avoid them, okay, but anyway, a lot of what people were doing is going to youtube and they were finding cuts. And if you look on youtube, a lot of the home haircut stuff is about blunt cuts and some really terrible layering that you need to be careful of, but blunt cuts. So blunt one length, bobs became a bit of a trend and they're becoming a trend. In 2021, but furthermore, not just speaking of bobs, shorter cuts in general, really short, funky cuts are a thing now you do want to pay attention, for instance, to the bobs, who are they for well, if you've got really really thick hair or really curly thick hair, Especially, you would probably want to stay away from those really kind of trendy one-length bobs, because it's going to look like a huge triangle on you. They kind of suit themselves best for people with a little bit of wave and texture in their hair, a tiny bit or medium texture, straighter hair, not super thin or fine hair either, because that can tend to look just kind of flat and not really have any Sort of movement or shape, so you want to kind of be aware of what texture your hair is before you go into a blunt one length bob same thing goes with shorter hair talked about it before when you're going super super super short. You want to. First of all, just be sure that you're going to be comfortable wearing short because, if you're uncomfortable having hair. That short, like i said before, regardless, if it's a trend, it can still end up just being uncomfortable and not quite looking right on you because you're not wearing it. So keep that in mind, but short hair is definitely a thing now again. If you want to check out my free webinar, yeah link below terrible right anyway, what i need you to do right now is click on one of these two videos right here, mainly because you're going to help support the channel you're going to learn some great stuff And yeah, i appreciate you checking them out so go ahead and do that we'll see you in the next video

Justin Hickox: Ok....which trend are you jumping on???????

Kate McCoy: I've always loved big hair and the Farrah wings whether on trend on not. So I'm here for it for sure! I'm looking for tips on lifting the face, making cheekbones really pop. I've done it accidentally with some updos but when attempting to recreate I seem to miss the exact placement and end up pulling the faces/jowls down. Just a suggestion for upcoming video topics.

Lori: So happy to see you BOTH! What a gorgeous hike. Great to know the trends and even better with some wavy hair and bed-head/tossled/wavy look. That's me on most days and grateful to be in our relaxed business to "rock that" as your wife says. LOL! And totally into that more relaxed Farah Faucet style. SO happy that is back. Now if I could pull off some daisies around my head (yes!!) my 19 year old son would be mortified! LOL!

Miriam Cardona: Hi Justin! One of my fav videos to date. I don’t think any other hairstylist YouTubers are bringing this type of perspective and advice on hair trends. Nice job! ♥️

Sylvia Ferrero: Sweet — YES to layered loose waves...lovin’ the 70s trend + all things disheveled and easy maintenance. ‍♀️ ps: That nature-infused cinematic music break is . ❄️

Alexandra: Please do the Farah haircuts and styles on various lengths, ages, and colors (including silver/grey). Thank you very much❤️

Christina Truchon: So helpful and informative. My coworkers and I have what I call “healthcare” hair. Long versions of our previous cuts because just easier to pull back. I like the Farrah look. Soft around the face with length. Looking for a time when our salons open up!

Flower: I love how you say even if it breaks a rule or guideline but someone loves it then go for it anyway and rock it! Thanks for the videos and very fun to includes hikes, dog, and wife! Such a great idea to have a class on doing own hair at home!! Will check it out!

2tzus: I'll probably cave to the curtain bangs. I'm always drawn to styles with bangs. My problem is my hair can get frizzy in the summer humidity and we're on a boat on the lake pretty much every day so being able to pull it all up is a definite plus. Decisions, decisions....

Holly’s Happy Hour: Glad you mentioned going gray! Millions of women are soooo over the dye. I’ve been rocking my authentic platinum for 13 yrs now & never looked back! You gotta own it and rock it and guess what....no more roots, ever! Freedom!

nisiepie: I gave myself a Bob a couple of months ago. I had armpit length hair that I had been trying to encourage growth with. Pandemic hair cut progression went like this... 1 inch trim of my layered hair, Mullet/shag, Bob. I just trimmed my Bob last night, and I loooooove it. Short and fresh is a good direction, and I'm seeing it more and more everywhere. The last time I cut my own hair was 30 years ago in high school. The pandemic with staying at home has been liberating and playing with my hair has been fun

Becca: The old school Farrah look ! I'm one of the nurses that you helped out with trimming our hair at home last year! Awesome to see your video. Its gorgeous there. Wishing you and your wife a healthy happy 2021! Thanks for the tips!

jacqueline griffiths: Having naturally curly hair I'm happy with curl in fashion! Yes, I have fine hair & had post menopausal hair loss mainly front & sides. I only have very few layers. Seems like a winner this year with my hair then. Not that anyone sees it, apart from my partner during these awful Covid times we're living thru. Your videos lift my mood too, you're great to watch, and your beautiful wife.

Catherine Cox: Not only is your content great, you make it so much fun to watch.

Kim C1234: Great advice as always! Love that you cover who shouldn’t try these trends. Wish you guys were there 40 years ago when I thought the Madonna perm was a good idea. LOL. Or the Bi Level cut that was a huge disaster and took forever to grow out.

Kristen Lewis: I’m FINALLY going to be trendy! Big, medium length, layered, naturally wavy and grey with a Farrah flip. It only took 46 years haha

LAURA TREFRY: Well, it's nice to know my natural hair texture is on trend and my at home layers are also on trend. I'll just keep rocking it!

Kelly Bridge: Definitely the gray look. Almost there! And, with your haircut techniques video classes I purchased months ago, I am confident in my cutting skills !

GitanaRusa2012: Yay, I’ll be trendy first time since the 80’s! Gray and big wavy medium long. 10 months in and really starting to dig it lately!

Sonya W.: I’ve had a bob for YEARS - my hair is thick and naturally curly so I have straightened it forever. In recent years it felt so BORING. So a year ago, before COVID, I decided I wanted to try it long. Who knew I’d be on trend? I still straighten it, but then add some curl with my flat iron. It’s long enough now, my stylist has started to layer the front, as you explained. I love it! I am over 60, and have never felt so confident. No grey for me, yet, though. LOL Still coloring. Love your channel!

jacqueline griffiths: I'm half & half grey & do not feel ready to do that full on grey yet but I have decided to go for 3 different shades of blonde so I'll eventually I will have some greys grown out too. Maybe a transition & not such a drastic change at once. Love your channel together with your lovely wife & the scenery is out of this world. Thank you Justin.

Tracy: I love it when “trends” catch up to what I’ve been doing for years. Wait...does that make me a trendsetter?! I stopped coloring almost 5 years ago because I thought being gray would a)be different...well, it used to be! and b)look great. Best hair decision *ever*. I’m not as gray as I thought but my salt & pepper is unique - no stylist could ever match the silver highlights Mother Nature is giving me. And for the first time in my adult life I’m learning about my natural texture, having given up heat styling about a year ago. Not gonna lie, that hasn’t been all flowers and rainbows, but it’s been interesting and fun to see what my natural barely wavy hair looks like without the manipulation of a curling iron. Speaking of which I’d love to see some videos on heatless styling - like different air drying options, overnight braids, that sort of thing. Your wife would be a great model!

Shellia Ventura: I'm 64 and have been doing the all gray for the past 5 years and loving it (I used to dye my hair since I was 14 and so happy I got away from it). My problem is I have a double chin and can't find a good hairstylist that can give me a good haircut for my face shape and also knows how to cut hair! I moved to the country a little over a year ago and been to two different stylists and both of them butchered my hair and now I am freaked out about where to go and I'm afraid to trust anyone to cut it again (the first stylist literally butchered it - she had chunks of hair cut out like she was a 3 year old having fun cutting her dolls hair, I think I was her very first human she ever cut hair on); I just wear my hair on top of my head with a clip. I used to have a stylist that cut my hair so good and always styled it according to the shape of my face but I have moved far away and can't go back to her. I used to wear my hair styled all the time. These two ladies that I went to I had them give me a simple Bob haircut and they totally messed it up. Any suggestions???? I want to get a GOOD haircut and a GOOD hairstylist but I am having bad luck in doing so. I even approach women that I see in the stores that have decent haircuts and ask them where they go and all of them said they go far away. It's not that easy for me to travel farther. I need help, your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Lisa Swords: Almost to 100,000!!! Cant wait for you to get there and way beyond!! Great video as always! ❤️

Griselle CC: I am transitioning to gray and loving the freedom. Hopefully one day you can do a video on advise on how to take care of the hair during the process and after the transition is finish. ❤️

Shari Jensen: Another great video! Forgive me if I can’t remember, have you ever addressed the length of hair in relation to the neck length? What looks best? Or does it really matter?

Angela island: I always look forward your videos! They are fun and I learn some great stuff

Linda Marocco: I am 10 months into trend 2!!!... going to be rocking the grey!!!

M M: Mullets are sexy...I work in a middle school, and mullets are trending! I've heard many comment on someone's mullet as "sexy" or "hot". Farrah Fawcett? You wait long enough, it comes back around. Thank you for another GREAT video. Love the scenery.

Susan Taylor: Who knew waterfalls froze - awesome - these videos lift my spirits as well as your amazing tips - you’re the best Justin - and Kev is such a beautiful boy!

Jo Nyu: I had a mullet for 2-3 years, until 2019, it was the best hairstyle i ever had for my curly-ish frizzy-ish hair

Susan Chaney: Yay! I have wavy hair and need front layers. Wish I could go gray but just don't have enough...YET. Thanks for another great video, makes me miss my Bernese who lived to 13! Hi Kevin.

Jacaranda Marie: Justin!! Hey!! I just found your channel last month and have LOVED watching you - both in the studio AND outdoors!! Genius of you to show the beauty of Oregon as you share your wisdom. Nice choice, brother! And THIS video is the one I’m commenting on because out of all the videos I’ve watched so far (and gave a HELL YA THUMBS UP!!) I’ve never heard you say where you were! I was 98% sure since I’ve spent a lot of time up there, but it wasn’t until this beautiful lady accompanying you in this video spilled the beans, bless her soul, that I could scream YES!!! I knew it!! I am a Pdx baby, born at Emmanuel hospital, and first skied on our gorgeous mountain, Mt. Hood, when I was four. It wasn’t the last time. . Thank you so much for sharing your CREATIVE BRILLIANCE, but also for sharing and understanding WHY we all want to look and feel beautiful…it spills over into ALL of the other facets of our lives; when we feel love/joy/happy, we share that vibration without even trying, right??Lastly, a big hug to you for sharing the beautiful scenery you are experiencing as you walk through her forests…even if others aren’t able to visit Mt. Hood at the moment, YOU are bringing them there, in your videos. (And I’m guessing in your heart, too.) BRAVO, Sir Justin! Keep up the Hood - I mean Good - work!! ⭐️

Laura Farrell: Hey Justin, I love your videos...the scenery is life-giving, and your wife is so cute, too! She seems like a lot of fun. This year I'm growing out a short hair cut to above my shoulder bob. I was wondering if you would share what the tattoos on your fingers say? I try to read them when you're talking, but they move too fast, and my curiosity is killing me! I'm sure they are something personal so it's ok if you don't want to say. Thanks for all your hard work!

Linda Marocco: I have curly hair, too... wow!... I can do lots of these trends!!!!

LolaK Lloyd: Should the roots always be darker? Seems to be a trend that never ends. So much easier to color roots the same color (if your hair is much lighter) than a darker color.

Linda Marocco: This is the most confident I have ever been!!!... I never expected to rock this grey!!!!

Debra Peterson: Ok first can I say your dog is awesome! The slow mo, the photo bombs, I got a tad distracted so I watched your video again! Going to try the layering and maybe the curtain bang. I have wavy hair anyways and trying to straighten it for the long bob is a pain. And when it’s humid it starts to frizz anyways! Love your videos

Sandra Franks: At 57, went "grey" 14 months ago, cutting it shoulder length to cut off the colored portions. What a dissapointment! Barely there with the grey color but hair is so much more healthy feeling and looking!

VE Tsai: If I let my hair go gray, I will definitely get a perm—a body perm at the very least!

Killer Smile: Growing out my grey right now, I love it. Looking for a nice cut for curly hair.

Ruth Tyler: I love your videos! You’re good, I learn things and you’re funny!

KellyeRaiborn#TEXIT: I was in Jr.High in the early 80's every girl had a mullet with feathered bangs its was probably ugliest hair style ever. But after that came the big Texas hot rolled hair and that was one I loved and still do.

M Holder: No grey for me. I’m stocked up and do my own color. My complexion is not good with grey. But I love that my hair is getting curlier as I get older! I keep it conditioned and let it do it’s thing.

Willett Mary: Yes but you can do some layers in the right places if you want a bob and you have thin hair. There are dozens of examples of bobs with fine thin hair with some layering and creative colouring that brings in texture, movement. and the illusion of thicker hair.

nisiepie: I still love dying my hair badass black, but when I go completely grey, I'm going to have fun with different coloured tints.

Barb Keeley: Hello Justin, I just found you today, and while I'm cooking I've been watching all the videos!! I'm 61 years old, and my hair is changing, seems like daily... Speaking of trends, are there tends to Young for women my age?? I love the idea of curls, but does it end up looking like a mom dressing to young? Thanks for all your work and sharing your tips, so much appreciated!!

Theresa Moser: Oh Wow I am finally trendy at 55 I went grey right away had no idea it was going to be over a year before I will see my co-workers. I also have curly hair with all the surfing YouTube my hair has never been healthier. That you for your content and thank you to many curly hair YouTubers

Poppy Topping: Hi. Can you do a video on thick hair and products? I have thick, very strong hair (at least the hairdressers always tell me so) and after half an hour of putting wax through the ends to give it some texture, it has dropped out or been absorbed in and my hair looks like it never had anything in it in the first place. I have longer mid-length hair with long layers, so don’t know if that makes a difference.

Cheshirescarf: I’ve just been bought the dyson air wrap so will try the waves, think I may need more layers. What products what you recommend to hold the waves? Thanks. Love the dog!

Rachel Kay: Love your wife’s reaction to the mullet

WILMA TUGGLE: Love your videos :) Thank you!

Silverilocks: 4 years gray now and I love it!

Juanita Bires: Since I have baby fine hair, I have to have something in my hair, or I look as if I have no hair. So, my hairdresser did color and foils. Since I have gray coming in faster, I want something done that will last longer before my gray comes back. My last two cuts have been a bob with side bangs.

brooks269: I have really fine hair and can’t figure out what to do with! Thanks for your wonderful videos!

Jen M: I am hair obsessed, but I watch for the dog. Your baby is gorgeous!! I do love your practical videos tho and thankyou for them. I am hair obsessed, as I said, but simple and some youtube pages are too artsy to be practical for me - NO mullets!!!!! Plus, kinda offshoot of what u said, I dress like a tomboy, so I don't want a masculine (for me) haircut. I have to ask. My stylist, being practical with me as I asked her to, was honest about my hair being to thin to grow long (cut due to surgeries and difficult maintenance), and it won't hold color at all (went very grey after multiple surgeries and autoimmune issues getting worse) If I could go in every 3 weeks, and could afford to, I might could try. Would like to color my own to be more affordable, but I want to keep it healthy and not sure I could do that on my own. She said no layering since I dn't like the wavy flip up. Do i have any hope? My slightly longer than chin length, half grey hair just makes me feel washed out and old when I hoped yo embrace it this year. I went years with long brown hair, and its hard to take. I asked her about layers because I hate just a flat bob with no style or texture, etc.. i like inverted, but can't seem to maintain quick enough because it grows into a flip up or upside down triangle (late 80's look) quickly. Any thoughts for hair or even mindset, to help me not add to my ill health feelings when I look in the mirror? I wish I could send pics. i friended u a while back on FB and could possibly tag you on some pics there if u wanted. (people made comments about me going blond and that, for some odd reason, lol, effects me. Many many blessings!!

Belinda Shanle: Love your dog, so pretty and enjoying the day. I am in for the curtain bangs may not go as far as Farrah Fawcett but love the look.

Lisa Bailey: totally right about thick and highly textured hair staying away from bobs. i look like i had a helmet head when i had one.

Makemyday2006: These are good news for me. I love big wavy layered hair.

Linda Marocco: Love trend 3, too!!!!...

Joi: Love you guys. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ grey hair is awesome love it. Wish I had that confidence because it’s gorgeous. I’ll get there.

Mary McKay: I just grew out my mid length bob. I’m apparently on trend because it’s going grey!

D mox: Fantastic video Justin !! Your videos just keep getting better and better !! your hikes are stunning , you live in a beautiful part of the world lovely to see your beautiful wife and doggo in your videos too I need you to come to Australia and cut my wild frizzy/wavy hair that I don't know what to do with .. Looking forward to your next video ... Cheers ... Dee

Jen: What do you recommend for thick coarse hair?

Mindy Mehendi: Please advise....need to find a stylist in my location who is absolutely the best for cutting wavy/curly hair! I put it off because no one that I have ever had in my 64 years can properly put layers in my hair without either, one making it look chopped up, two, uneven in the back at the bottom, three, cut it into the dreaded Bob which always just grows into a triangle head, four, it always tends to end up with a one layer that is basically cut around just slightly below my earlobes which equates to growing out=awful In Tampa bay vicinity Florida

It’s Jess: “Babe would you wear a mullet” A hard No lol I’m with you sweetheart ❤️

Caroline Duggan: Love the view on your walks as much as the content of your informative videos

Margarete K: Love it
