I have short legs. In fact, i am petite only because of my short legs. My torso is actually quite long, so i've mastered how to make my legs look longer, and today, i'm going to share with you the five things that i avoid. If i want to make my legs look longer, so let's get started with the first one number one avoid low rise. Anything low rise seems to be making a bit of a comeback right now. I say avoid the trend pressures of this and just stick to high rise bottoms, which will lengthen your legs. If you feel swallowed whole in high rise, then a mid-rise should be the lowest that you go, but usually people who feel like they have shorter legs will also feel like they have a longer torso. So if you're like me, always opt for a high rise number, two avoid mid calf boots or shoes. Try to avoid any shoe or boot that cuts you off mid calf instead opt for ankle, leg, shoes or lower, and that will help elongate the leg. Also, if you feel confident in them try an above the knee boot during the cooler months, and that could look amazing, especially if you are either a rectangle shape or an inverted triangle body shape. I personally, as a pear shape, do not feel confident in a boot. That'S above the knee, so i just stick with an ankle, but everybody's body shape is different and if you just want to rock an above, the knee boot then definitely do it number three buckling hemlines should be avoided. Oversized trousers and jeans are really in right now. So try to avoid anything that will buckle at the hemline, though it will make short legs look even shorter. I have two styles of pants that i wear. Instead i opt for a longer and looser jean then i put that over a heeled shoe. Otherwise i get the hemline taken up so that the buckling doesn't happen when i'm wearing flat shoes bonus tip. If you are hemming up your jeans, then ask your tailor to reattach the original hem, instead of just typically like folding it under that will make it look like you purchased them at the perfect length and number four avoid dropped, waist, dresses or jumpsuits. Nothing makes short legs look shorter than a dropped, waist dress or jumpsuit. This was the rage in 1920s fashion. It was a terrible time to be a woman with short legs, then, and now, a hundred years later, it's still doing us no favors. If you have short legs high-waisted everything is your best friend like i stated earlier. That means that you want to look for dresses that appear high-waisted and if your body shape supports it, you can also look for something that just ties at the waist as an alternative. You can try an empire waistline. A lot of people who don't like two cinch at the waist will look just equally as great in something that's an empire. Waistline and number five you'll want to avoid tunics. I break this rule all the time to be honest but similar to the dropped waist. A tunic will make your stature and your legs look even shorter by the way tunics also de-emphasize the shoulders. So if you're like me, where you want to balance out your proportions, then tunics will not do the shoulders any justice and if you feel more confident in these types of tops, then try to keep them monochrome to the rest of your outfit or at least similar. In color, for both your top and your bottom that'll help avoid any broken line. Cutting you off and shortening your legs even more, and those are some of my tricks to balance out my leg length. I hope it was really helpful and if it was then please give this video a thumbs up. That really helps this channel, and it helps me know what kind of videos that you guys. Love and i've also been working on something incredibly exciting. So i've been working for months and months on it and i plan to announce it very soon. So if you don't want to miss out, then hit the notification bell to stay up to date on my upcoming videos, and with that i will see you guys next time you

Shakila: I like how she doesn't waste time and talk to the point

Sarah B: I’m 5’8” w/short legs & long torso.. I’ve struggled for years to figure this out. These simple tips are life-changing! Thank you!

Shambhvi Pandey: I like how she says the actual things we need to know and not the obvious thing other people keeps telling. This is the first time I realized I can look hella fine and not just sit in the corner wearing clothes which doesn't fit. Thanks a lot lady✨✊

Good JuJu: At 5’7” I usually surprise people who think I’m 5’10” because of my long torso. These tips are very helpful because my legs are shorter compared to the rest of my body

ohlalajeckostar: Just so you know, it's really helpful! AND STRAIGHT TO THE POINT! ❤️

soft moon: Trust me, when I started wearing high rise jeans I felt more confident than ever. Seriously I'll never reach for low rise ever again

anastasia: Your videos are always so soothing and great with information! I’ve gotten so much more confident in my clothing choices following your tips. Being small has always made me feel so limited with outfits. Now I’m starting to choose not only more flattering pieces but more mature and timeless as well. Because summer is coming up and a lot of us will be going to festivals it would be amazing if you did something like a festival outfit guide. I have trouble pairing pretty but practical pieces to wear outside. Will definitely be subscribing!

D. S.: Watching this made me happy because I realized that I figured these tips out on my own, through experience. That makes me have more confidence in my styling instinct because it turns out that I do know what looks good on me. :)

Audrey McFarland: Very clear and concise! Love the tips, the samples of What Not to wear and What to Wear! and done in under 5 minutes!. Sweet!

Tara P: I’m long legged, but the tips you give still work with my wardrobe! Like you I’m pear shaped, and the high waist/empire waist garments draw attention away from my ‘hot zones’ and actually emphasize the length of my legs

Carla Gheorghiu: As a short girl, I really like the fact that I don't like any of the iteams I should avoid.

Kimberley Allen: I'm short legged and short torsoed. Also recovering from a c section so I'm seriously limited in what feels comfortable. So I'm watching all these videos so I can curate a better wardrobe for my new body so I don't continue to buy the wrong things once I'm finally ready to dress in something other than leggings

Daniellie: I have the same body type and height and these videos are very helpful. I've followed her style tips for a couple of years now and so far I've received incredible feedback. ❤❤❤

just me!: Thank you for a great tutorial! -I break the tunic rule too. I find it works if the tunic is a straight or a slim fit, and comes to about an inch or so below the crotch line. It's very comfy and casual but nicer than jeans and a t shirt! Somehow I get away with it.

Erica Bowman: Super helpful, to the point, and completely nonjudgmental. Really loved it. Thank you! Will be subscribing!

Tessa M: So excited to finally find someone else with short legs and a long torso!! So many people I watch for fashion (or just in general) mention having long legs and a short torso so it’s really nice to see a body shape like mine represented here!

Alli H: This is such great advice! As a short person with stubby legs and a wicked long torso, this is so helpful. Some of these I'd figured out for myself but others were new. (And sorry not sorry, not giving up tunics. Especially during WFH! LOL) Thanks for great, quick, actually USEFUL content!

Kylie E: Thank you! I guess I’m not “petite”, as I’m 5’6”, but I have short legs and a long torso, which makes it very hard for me to find clothing that doesn’t make my legs look even shorter and elongate my torso more. High-waisted everything is such a lifesaver!

Anna Urie: Ahhh, thanks so much for this. You have no idea how much this helps me,I'm 5ft even and I've always felt conscious about my short legs.

Rusanne Casela: Hi Bethany! I didn't realize that I haven't followed you yet. I always watch your videos because I have the same body type and proportion as you, so all your tips are perfect for me. :) Hope you'll keep sharing more of this vids. Thank you!

A Sayy: She should do audible readings. Her voice is so soothing

mandy: Omg you're definitely my new go-to fashion channel. Love that I finally found someone who actually mentions other body types rather than just the standard hour glass figure with long leggs. Amazing video!

O: Thank you for always posting videos that are straight to the point!! ❤️ I hope all is well with you!

Acara Johnson: This was incredibly helpful. And seeing the examples really helped me visualize why I finally need to give up my comfy tunics. lol Thanks! - new sub

Nikki: Absolutely loved this no nonsense video ❤️ Straight to the point and quality content ❤️

RawChicken : I swear to god petite ppl needs more recognition in the fashion industry, I always have to get my pants tailored so it suits my waist AND my length at the same time. I can never find a perfect pants.

Laurian khim Magno: Thanks much Beth! I am your new subscriber. I have short legs like you too, and I find your video really helpful since I was also struggling with my go-to outfits. Now you gave me an idea. :D

Pumpkin Soup: To the point and short. Thank you Bethany!!!

Bunny: Thanks for this! I find it so annoying when some people get mad at people who give advice on what different body types should wear. Because yeah, of course we can all wear whatever we want, but some of us want to wear the things that will look best to the human eye on our proportions. There's nothing wrong with picking clothing types that complement our body types.

Mary Anne dela cruz: I am so glad I found you today! Finally, someone with the same body shape and similar height!! Thank you this is very helpful :) I've been doing myself injustice these past few years.

Iced Tae: Love how she considers other body types and not just short and skinny

TaySamey: I’m pretty petite and have the shortest attention span known to man, your video really hits all the right points for me in pacing and helpfulness!!! Absolutely subscribing =) Thanks so much girl!

Sid Pat: That's helpful. I always felt I'm going against the trend by wearing high rise jeans but thanks to you, now I feel more confident

Dorothea Prall: It’s funny : i do not have short legs, but nevertheless, I listened until the end, because you explain so well and add very convincing pictures. Weil done !

Megan h: Great helpful tips! I think at this point I am pretty good at dressing for my leg length, but sometimes some reassurance is helpful. I was trying on jeans recently and the salesperson was trying to convince me that long jeans were “in” therefore I should buy them, which annoyed me. I like the looser/baggy trend but definitely will keep them at ankle length. The early 2000s were not a kind time for short legged girls and I will not be buying into low waisted, extra long jeans, tyvm.

Christine Cho: I’m 5’3” and I’ve naturally been following these tips! You are spot on—these styles really don’t suit me. The low rise Jean thing I hated! Especially because everyone’s buttcrack was on display every time we bent over.

Hương Nguyễn: This is the first video of yours that I watched and honestly, it's so comfortable to watch. Your voice is clear, smooth and easy to follow. Your intro is straightforward. And the content is well made with clear examples. I like it ❤️ thank you.

paola gali: This was soooo helpful. Thanks for all the tips!

claudia Monica: Hi! I loved your channel! Short and direct tips, no fooling around and as I do have short legs as well, that was pretty interesting!! Thanks!

Jess Junction: Thank you Dearly Bethany Love how you make dressing up simple.

yky121: I’m loving the content Bethany! Your tips are actually useful for a petite person like me and have been able to implement it into my wardrobe. An icon!

Jasmine Nicole: Loved the fashion tips especially since I'm petite but more on the curvy side! Will definitely be checking some of your other fashion videos :)

Nicole Gallagher: This confirmed all my style knowledge as a 5'1" woman. Thank you ❤

Angela Oviedo: I loved this! Clear and great advice! :) Im short and I loved the tips :)

blessy savannah: We have the same height. So glad I found this video of yours. A really great help ❤️

Sara Abigail Mateo Ozorio: Loved how you went straight to the point plus explained everything so well! You got a new sub ♥

bribri: I am sooooo happy I found this, I'm 5'2 & I have a longer torso & shorter legs as well. Never hear too many talk about that body type so I'm here for it gurl

Phat Cat: Glad this popped up in our recommendations (this is a shared account). My mother has the exact same issue (e.g. short/petite, with shorter legs but long torso) and has always had a hard time trying to find clothes and shoes (always with heels, of course) that would flatter her build, since everything these days seems to be made for tall people, but she always asks for my opinion whenever she buys herself new outfits and I never know what to say. I'll definitely have to show her this video. Thanks.

jungkookiewithcookies^_________^: The way she styled all her outfits are amazing... So pretty. Thank you for this amazing video

arju scarlet: Yup alllll of these are accurate. I have noticed that I looks wayy shorter when I do the things she tells not to do. Good to know I'm on the right track. Don't succumb to trends just wear what looks good on you based on your body type.❤️

Minerlis Abreu: I am a short legs, long torso woman as well. I'm glad that I was already following most of the rules in this video. I absolutely hate low rise. One: makes legs look short. Two: I have a big butt and they give me that gap in the back where it shows my butt crack. So, low rise trend will never come back into my wardrobe.

movi3srock: Been doing most of these my whole life. And I remember when low rise was super popular so many people told me to not wear mid or high rise. But my proportions always look better that way plus I just feel more comfortable!

Xlaxla: Thank you for the information and getting straight to the point. Loved your video.

Diya Das: This video made me realize i have been doing almost the right thing till now. Thanks!❤

Willow S: Like others have said, I really love how your videos can be watched in short bites and am so happy you didn't add distracting music like other channels

Raya Rusho: Love this video! It was short, straight to the point, no waffle and actually gave great advice. Thank you. You’re refreshing in the otherwise overly dramatic beauty YouTube community.

Diane Bangtan: Omg, thank you for this! This has been my problem, short legs Seriously idk how to style myself, but this tricks is simply enough. Thanks again!

A P: I'm nowhere near short (I'm 5'9) and just saw this on my recommendation. happy that it got recommended bec after this video, I started binge watching Bethany because 1. so soothing voice that I'll listen to your podcast or audiobooks any time of the day 2. no annoying bg music that overlaps the voice and everything is so concisely explained 3. examples about dresses to avoid and what to go to (like in this video) are so on point especially to someone who's not even familiar with the terms even if i know what it is once i see the piece

Amy Smiles: I feel seen!! I am a long torso short leg girl too! Thank you for this

R B: Enjoyed this, Bethany. My wedding dress was high waisted with a short embroidered top over it. It made me look tall, elegant and slim. No mean feat!!!

sssinfullyyours: Even if I do this, my legs are thicc and still can’t look longer.

Lizxyplays: I love how she just got to the point and the video was so simple and small not like the other videos they were 10-15 minutes long and a 3 minute long intro, thanks for making such a great video and I hope I can’t take ur advice and finally look tall in jeans

Nettonya Ryane: Thank you for confirming what I knew about being short. Luckily, I have longer legs than my torso. Still, I make sure to emphasize longer lines in my clothing.

Kosmic: Interesting…I’ve intuitively avoid wearing the said five types of clothing. It’s great to hear confirmation of it :) thank you!

Stacey Shimabuku: Wow, she really hit the mark for us petite gals! I need to rethink my wardrobe. Thank u!

Shoyo Tobio: This is so helpful, and straightforward. I love it.

Leigh Anderson: Love this. Thanks for remembering that not all short legged girls are short overall. I’m 5’5” but have a longer torso and shorter legs. Current trends are tough, especially jeans.

Megsy: I'm 5'3 and I get picked on for being short. I'm so glad I ran into this video because I've wonder how can I make myself look taller. Now I have the answers and subscribed. Thank you!

Rhina Ursais: I do have short legs also. But then I tried what she just said and recommend about, then it's actually worked out! Thank you! You're the best! I'll be rooting for you more!

Procrastinus Prime: A video that's right to the point, great visuals for the dos and don'ts, so excited this came up in my recommended!

Rehena Rahman: This helped a lot! Thank you so much !

Rezwana Alamgir: Love how I've naturally avoided all the things in this video, because they just looked so off on me. I could never quite figure out why though, so thank you!

Cynthia Martinez: I knew high rise was my best bet!! All this advice and I agree it works, I have done this all but was curious if anyone else struggled with short legs/long torso, and had the same solutions.

Jeanne Jorgensen: Great video. I’m 72 years old, 5’ 5” and have a long torso and short legs too. All of your suggestions I did manage to figure out over all these years and they are all correct. The worst was leggings and long tops! Took me awhile to figure out why some ladies looked great in these but I didn’t! It was my short legs!! I’ve done more hems over the years because of this. Any longer tops I get, I take them up immediately! Wearing heels with slacks always looked best and prevented bunching up at the bottom. I don’t wear heels any more (my ancient feet) but make sure my slacks don’t bunch up. And those low-waisted dresses I loved. But…again a no no! I loved empire waists. All of this without realizing why! So, short-legged ladies…heed this lady’s advice and forget about what’s in fashion at any given moment. Fashions change, so your time will come!! Lol

FranSlam: The one thing about clothes that I learned from having short legs is high-waisted everything. And I'm not even short, I'm 5'6, just proportionally my torso is quite long. This video will be interesting to discover any new tips :)

Jess Reed - formerly dba Nadira Jamal: +1 for high-waisted pants. Besides the optical illusion, long torsos have “taller” hips, so we need the extra rise just to get enough coverage. Ditto for a rounder booty: it takes more rise to cover a curved shape than a flatter one of the same size. I have both, and high rise jeans fit me like mid rise.

Char: I have the same height & body shape so this helped sooo much!! Thank you!!

Megan Adams: Being 5’1, 7/8 leggings are a lifesaver! They’re always the perfect length!

omegasage: Super helpful!! Thanks Bethany :)

IlluminosaImmortalis: Thanks! This confronted my main issues with clothing and I found quite helpful!

Kat: Gorgeous content and on the point. Thank you! I learned all this things over years by figuring out. Long time I was walking around like the Teletubbies look like - my personal result of wearing low rise stuff and so on. :-)

Adelaide: Being 4’11” and a bit… round, shopping for bottoms that actually fit around me without making me look even shorter is SUCH a nightmare I always end up with a weird fit but don’t have the spare cash for a tailor, so I’m beginning to think it’d be easier to learn how to sew and make my own clothes than to keep trying to shop for them….

Justine Miaw: We haven't been lucky with fashion in the 00s and 10s, no wonder why I felt like I was looking odd for so long and some of you surely did as well. The comeback of the high rised pants was a revelation to me!

decaqon: This is quality content!! Love the comparisons and examples shown, Bethany! Could you do a video showing some chic outfits for home-wear and lounging around the house? It would be so cool to see that.

M Catherine W: Great advice! Love it

dianamvd: I'm 5"6 so not petite but I love your tips about body proportions because we have such similar bodies. I also have short legs, long torso, a pear shaped body with thick thighs and large hips. I love my body but I hate my short calves. Your tips are really helpful

Agathe de Thé: Your last monochrome outfit looks really great on you !! Love those textures, colors and accessories

Stephie Mae: I totes needed this. As someone petite, its hard trying to feel confident in my body. This is such a helpful video

Elana Stephens: I ordered the smallest size of jeans one time and when I got them, I felt horrible because they were still too tall and wide for me and I felt like giving up. My mom took me to get them tailored and now they fit me perfectly. The point here is that people that suffer with these types of situations, should get more credit and recognition :/

Oscar Wilde: I love the advice to ignore fashion trends if they do not suit your body type. This is why the Gen Z destruction of skinny jeans was something I completely ignored. If it looks good, it will never go completely out of style, particularly when paired with in-season trends or simply classic looks.

Jon Mathisen: Don't know how I ended up here, and I have zero interest in clothes. However, need to appreciate this video - probably one of the most to-the-point videos I've seen on YT ever. No nonsense, factual and explaining. And a very pleasant voice!

strawburybounce: Subscribed because you communicate your points concisely and simply. Beautiful job, great video!

SummerMic: OMG I'm swearing by this channel. Who else here is binge-watching Dearly Bethany? She is so warm and I love the aesthetic ❤️

Sara Rha: I love right to the point videos! No long ass intro. And great content as well

Dolly: I'm plus size with short legs and this was still helpful! I feel like (not you, just in general) when people think 'petite' they think 'thin'. Not so! I think I got short legs from my dad lol. Anyway, waist definition is key for my hourglass/romantic shape and that notion has been confirmed again.

Misty Rose Austria: Thanks for this. Love that you always get to the point with your vids.

Azim Syafiq: your tips are incredible! the way u explain it

Shae C: Been a subscriber since Bethany has only got less than 100k subs now I’m so amazed how she really grew her channel i love her advices as a petite lady. I learned a lot and changed my style to even better ❤️❤️❤️

ItsmeMalditaaa: Thank you for this video, direct to the point and so accurate no more chitchats ..
