#naturalhair #howtogrownaturalhair #grownaturalhairfaster

What'S up guys, it's a go wit and welcome back to another video and today we're gon na be doing one of probably my most frequently asked questions lately, which is how did you grow your hair so long now, a lot of people are thinking that I grew. My hair long quickly, no, I appreciate the love, but I remember I dyed. My hair in 2014 is now 2019 at least four and a half years of growth. So I feel like it's a pretty normal rate of growth and actually a pretty slow rate of growth, because I damaged my hair, I had to deal with all the damaged hair. You know growing that out cutting it off, so I feel like the growth could have been faster. I wanted to come back and give you guys the answers to your questions. I did a how to grow long, healthy, hair, video and that was probably in like 2010. So I feel like we can update that all the information in that video is pretty accurate and really good. I actually went back to take a look to see what I said and I still agree with everything I said there over the years. I'Ve just learned a lot more about my hair scalp, just internally how it grows and all that kind of stuff I'm also going gone through my own trials and tribulations, and so with all of that new information I feel like I can give you guys a bomb Video that will help you to grow out your hair, whether you want healthy hair or whether you want long healthy hair. Hopefully, the tips in this video are gon na help, so I'm just going to get right into exam, a ton of tips to share with you guys. Alas, again the first tip is to clarify your hair, wash your hair. Okay, a lot of us try to stretch our styles for as long as possible and we're like. Oh man like it, still looks good on week. 3. Are we for like imma, still wear it, but don't you got ta wash your scalp and here's? Why? First soil? It'S the source, it's where your hair is growing. Out of, so you want to make sure that you're giving the hair that's coming out of your head. The best chance that it has to be hair is collecting dirt. It'S got product build up on that, especially if you like to use you know butters and oils, and it's not only clogging the pores on your head, making it difficult for your follicles to come out healthy. But it's also can become an irritant to your scalp and if your hair, follicles or roots become Eretz or the skin on your scalp becomes irritated, you can make yourself susceptible to issue such as alopecia or dandruff dandruff from like blocked sebum on your scalp there's. So many things that can happen when you don't wash your hair. I used to wash my hair like once a month back in the day, and that was fine for me, but I do feel like it's. Just not a good idea. Try to figure out a good wash day routine for you. I wouldn't go longer than two weeks without washing my hair three weeks, the absolute most, but just do not make that a habit if you're doing a protective style or something three or four weeks. Fine, but try to go in there throughout the weeks, and you know at least like clean, clear out your scalp a little bit here in there. Personally, I currently wash my hair every week and I've been doing that for probably over two or three years now. I'Ve actually decided that I'm gon na try and push it to every two weeks. I mean I have gone two weeks or three, except I'm doing a protective style or if I'm particularly busy, I'm gon na try and push that to every two weeks, because I feel like my hair - can take it just based on how it's been doing lately. I feel like I can go two weeks and be okay with it, but I'm not gon na try and go over to these alright guys. So tip number two is moisturize your hair, and everybody knows this already so see. When you have natural hair, it tends to be more dry and all those little curls, kinks and coils make it really hard for the sebum at your scalp to travel all the way down the hair, because it's got all these loops to go down, whereas a straight Hair, just kind of can like fall down with gravity. So with that being said, because you have natural hair, it's gon na be a lot more dry. It'S gon na be a lot more weak in those little spots where the sebum doesn't go all the way down, and so you really got to make sure that you manually moisturize your hair inside and out so internally make sure you're drinking enough water like if you Don'T have enough water you're, really you're really messing yourself up. Not only can your organs not work properly for the rest of your body, but there's not gon na, be enough for your hair you're gon na get dry, brittle hair and also getting enough of your omega-3s. Your fatty acids, all those things, will help to moisturize your body from the inside out. So if you eat meat salmon is really great avocados for veggies, and you can even take a fish oil pill. If you don't think that it's something that you can get in your everyday diet frequently and then externally, you just want to make sure that you're moisturizing your hair properly a lot of times. People will just throw some oil on their hair and they'll bit. Oh, it's moisturize, but that's not the case. You really want to make sure that you've got at least some sort of liquid water on there aloe vera juice, something like that. That'S gon na help to moisturize it topically and then seal that in with an oil or like a butter cream, or something like that. That'S gon na really trap the moisture in and then you want to make sure that you're moisturizing your hair constantly and replenishing as needed, preferably before needed. So this kind of goes with tip number one. Where a lot of times we will stretch our hair for as long as possible till like our hair is on its like last dying breath, and it's like feed me and by that time our hair is already dry and parched and weakened. So you really want to make sure that you moisturize your hair before your hair becomes dry and pretty much desperate so that you don't leave your hair in a weak and susceptible state where it can get knots or split ends at the first sign of your hair. Starting to get kind of dry make sure that you get some more moisture on it. Don'T let that continue! We want to keep our hair strong and nice and elastic so moisture is key. So that brings us to tip number three, which is getting regular trim, whether you like to trim at home. Do it yourself or whether you're not comfortable with that, and you want to go to a stylist or whether you just don't want to trim you like to go to stylists? However, you like to trim your hair trim, your hair, it's so important to get those dead ends off and everyone's gon na be different. Some people really like to be on a schedule like, for example, they get their hair trimmed every three months me personally. I don't really like to put myself on a schedule, because I just like to pay attention to what my hair is telling me, because I don't like chopping off more hair than I need to. I sometimes feel like, if you're doing it every three months re four months. Maybe your hair didn't need to be trimmed at that time and you just kind of did a trim when it wasn't really necessary. Yet so if your goal is to grow long hair, but maybe you want to stick with the like paying attention to how your hair feels and then deciding to trim based on that every single week, as I'm washing I'm paying attention to what my hair feels like As I get to the ends like as I'm washing it putting the conditioner and detangling it, I my ends and if it feels like it's getting rough or while I'm twisting it to style, if it feels like the bottoms, don't feel like they usually do. I see some split ends or knots or if I notice just in the mirror that maybe it's looking a little bit more thin on the bottom and wispy, then I know it's time to trim just really pay attention to how your ends are feeling, and that will Be a really great indication that it's time to trim it's really up to you what you feel comfortable doing - and I do have videos on how to trim your own hair, of course, in the description box. My fourth tip is trying to do gentle styling. I know it's like super trendy to do a lot of these super tight, slicked back looks. There are ways that you can do that in gentle ways like I did a slicked back up bun, but in a more gentle way, because all the tight pulling really tight. Bun high tight, ponytail doing high, plus all the time or really small, tight braids they're all pulling at the root and causing a lot of stress to your hair. The hair follicles and your skin as well can cause issues such as like alopecia alopecia can really form from a lot of different things, how you style your hair, how you clean your hair, what you put on your hair and just general stress, like mental health, gentle Styling is also really good for, like your baby hairs and your edges, I do have my days to where I kind of you know. I want like a slick look or I want like a high ponytail and I'll do that. I think everything is good in moderation. Obviously, if you do a slicked back, look or a tight look, or something like that, give your hair shafts time to bounce back from that kind of trauma that it was put in. Especially if you know your hair is used to growing a certain way and now you're like twisting it in all different types of ways, so give yourself a couple of weeks to you know bounce back from that before you decide to do it again. Also, when it comes to gentle styling, that includes being really careful with what accessories you put in your hair, be aware of what you're using and be really really careful and gentle when deciding to put those in your hair when you're, taking your hair out just really Take your time getting those metal pieces off of your hair, because metal is very jagged, it's very hard and if your hair swipes against a side of one of those metal pieces, it doesn't stand a chance. It'S going to slice your hair in half, not to scare you. I still use metal accessories because they're really cute, but you know be mindful when you're taking them out, don't just like yank them out like like you, don't have a care in the world. You know no strands left behind. That is my. I need to put that on my shirt. That'S like my motto, whatever you do just make sure there are no strands left behind okay and then also when you're detangling. You know take your time starting at the bottom and then working your way up to the roots. If you have tight for like kinky coily hair like I do, I just find it best to work in small to medium sized sections. Why tooth comb is your best friend? You can get this at any beauty supply store. If you need more than that, then you can go with a detangling brush of so many different types of detangling brushes, there's Denman! This one is the Felicia Leatherwood, which I really love brush with the best calm for this, and I just love how this glides in my hair, but don't get it twisted just because a detangling brush is good, doesn't mean that you don't have to be careful when You use it and then my last tip as it pertains to gentle styling is just make sure that you're not like pissed off or angry or distracted when you're doing your hair you'll be really surprised how aggressive you can be with your hair when you're rushing something Or when you're like actually pissed off, don't work that hair out you know my fifth tip is protective styling. It gives your hair kind of a chance to like relax and breathe and grow on its own. Without you playing in it with hair tools and doing the absolute most have carefree days, you don't have to style your hair, you don't to take the time to do. It can be really great to help grow out your hair, long and healthy. If the hairstyle is actually protective just because your hair is and braids or twists or whatever it or under a wig, it doesn't necessarily mean it's protective protective is about how you've installed, whatever style, you're doing and also how you take care of it. So if you, you know, braided your hair up, really nicely super gently and then popped on a wig for like three months and didn't even look at your hair for three months. That'S not protective because you didn't wash your hair. Do you know, I'm saying just make sure the braids or twists are installed gently, make sure they're not like yanking the hair out of your skin on your scalp. If your scalp is in pain or inflamed in any way, then that's definitely not protective, and you want to take that out, because your hair is just being pulled at a rate that is not natural and it's gon na cause a lot of damage. If you continue, the week's go on just make sure you care for your hair. You know whether it's like every two weeks, just like spot cleaning it or again, jumping in the shower with like a little stocking cap to protect the appearance of your braids. As you wash, your scalp make sure you're really careful about how you are actually treating your hair while it's in that protective style. Okay, so my sixth tip you know you can take it or leave it. It'S just based on my own personal experience, but I have found that keeping my hair stretched most of the time really helps in preserving the length of my hair. If length is, you know important for you growing out your hair, and especially, if you have type 4 hair, which is really kweli, kinky dry, tends to get a lot of single strand knots. That kind of deal then you're gon na find that keeping your hair stretched. Most of the time most of the time - and you know if you like it all the time - that's great too - is gon na, really help you to preserve the length of your hair and hear me out as to why, when I was first growing, my hair way Back in the day, back in 2009, I used to always just do twist outs, and you know part of it was like a mental thing where I was like. I don't really know how to wear my wash and go yeah or I'm not really comfortable. When I went my wash and go is beautiful but I wasn't like you know I wasn't, it was still new to me back then, and so I wasn't super comfortable wearing it, and so I would always kind of lean on my twist us because it you know It looks more like a relaxer, I'm not gon na lie. It looks a little more like stretched hair that I was used to. I was able to retain length really really really well. Then after I dyed my hair, I was really starting to like play with my washing go and I'm really like learning that side of my hair, like what my hair could do and it's like curly state and I just learned so much about my wash and go. I fell in love with my texture and I was like oh I'm market, I'm rocking this all the time, and I noticed that you know it was harder for me to maintain length and yes, my hair was damaged at the time, but even as I was cutting It off and doing like washing gos. I was trimming my hair a lot more often than I used to, and I was like why the heck am I having to trim my hair so much, and I realized that every time I would wear my washing go. My hair would just get a lot more wear and tear on it because they so coyly and shrunken the curls just kind of like curled up on themselves and formed knots that I then it would have to cut out. When I wear my hair in a wash and go, my hair dries out a lot faster and again, I think that's just because the oil distribution isn't there, and so my hair would get dry a lot faster, which would then of course make it feel a little Bit more weak, which would then, of course weaken it, make it really a lot more difficult to detangle, and so I finally realizes like. Oh, my god, I think me wearing wash and gos all the time is actually making it more difficult for my hair to grow out. I love everything that my hair can do, but I realize that, okay, if I really want my hair to grow, I'm really gon na have to prioritize stretching my hair more often and then kind of leaving my wash and go like a little treat at the end. Like I said, take this information with a grain of salt, take it or leave it, but I personally, if you've got hair like me, that is very, very shrunken, like if you've seen that photo of my hair on Instagram what it looks like, I only have leaving Condition my hair no styling products and I just allowed it to air dry. This is how much my hair shrinks. Okay and this in this still there's like a leave-in conditioner on that. So imagine without I'll stretch, my hair for a couple weeks and then I'll wear wash and go. But I won't wear a wash and go for more than one week I twist out for, like maybe two or three weeks and then a washing go and then like a twist out for two or three weeks and then a washing go. So that has kind of been my my routine: it's not set in stone. Obviously I am a hair vlogger, so I'm doing all types of different things with my hair. Please still wear your naturally curly hair is so gorgeous. Stretching it out has definitely helped me to remain tane my length, and hopefully you know that helps you out as well, if you're finding that you do see more damage with your washing go myself, a tip is to make sure that you choose healthy hair products. Okay, so to make a quick analogy, say you have a hairstylist that you go to like all the time, and you know you consult with her. She helps you keep your hair super healthy. She washes it for you, she conditions and she gives you like treatments and all that and your hair always feels really healthy. When you leave and say you have like a modeling, gig or whatever, where you go to this another hairstylist, but this one isn't concerned with keeping your hair healthy. They don't care. If your hair is splintering at your roots, they don't care if it's uncomfortable for you. They don't care if they didn't have to damage your hair to straighten it for a certain look, the only thing that this hairstylist is is concerned with is getting the look that the client wanted you to have. So I love this analogy because it's the same thing with hair products, there are really healthy hair products that are looking to feed your hair, encourage hair growth, maintain the strength of your hair and to get it growing in the right direction, and also to keep you Safe non-toxic natural, no chemicals and all that there's hair products that do that. On the other hand, there are hair products that aren't concerned with feeding your hair, getting you to grow they're, just really concerned on making your hair look like it's healthy. But who knows what it's doing it could be suffocating your hair, blocking you from being able to absorb other moisturizing products for the sake of shine or something like that, really make sure that you know your. Nothing is so, of course, they're doing construction right now. So I'm sorry, if you can hear that, are we at war like what the actual F like, what the heck every time I film, oh gosh, so you really want to make sure that you are choosing healthy, hair product. You put it on your hair and your hair is coming out better for it. You really want to reach for those products, really pay attention to ingredients list and then also there are a lot of things that can irritate your scalp, so pay attention when you're using a product does it make your scalp go ha or does that make you like? Super itchy and like feel really tight and like like painful you can be allergic to natural ingredients too, like, for example, coconut oil does that to meat when I put coconut oil on my scalp for some reason, it just makes my scalp feel very painful. If you find that your scalp is feeling itchy or burning in any way after using any products, stop using it, because that can like really damage your hair and your scalp over time. If you find that, like you're doing all the things you're supposed to do, you're moisturizing your hair you're, treating it gently you're doing this and doing that and you're bathing it and nothing seems to be helping the health and the growth. Your hair check out your products, and I don't want to scare you from using like chemical products. Chemical products are really great. I like chemicals, I like safe synthetic chemicals. Chemicals, I'm not all bad and all natural ingredients aren't good like there are natural ingredients that can also be irritating for you. So not all natural stuff is good either. So it's definitely a personal thing. Whatever you do is great if it works for you, we're almost done guys are almost there. We'Ve only got one more after this drink, more water and less sugary drinks. More water internally is more water for your skin, more water for your hair, more water. For your organs, great hair growth, but on that note you also want to decrease the amount of sugar drinking so if you're drinking lots of soda or like even adding tons of sugar to your coffees, even natural sugars. I was on this diet, where I was just eating tons of sugar all the time. It was natural fruit, sugars, but I was just eating way too many of them. So sugar can be very dangerous to your overall health as well as your hair health, because it increases the amount of glucose in your body, and once you do that, your body tries to pump out insulin to control those glucose levels. Insulin can spike your levels of DHT in your body and, as you guys know, DHT is the hormone that contributes to hair loss. This was a mathematical equation. A plus B equals C less water, plus more sugar equals hair loss. So for me personally, I drink a lot of caffeine, which is also very bad for hair growth, and I also like to put sugar in my coffee, I'll use like maple syrup and my coffee and it tastes delicious. Try it you'll. Thank me later, but I've switched to that cuz. I only have to like use a very little bit. I'Ve tried to drink coffee without sugar, and I just it's not the same. I'M a work in progress, I'm not not as well. You also want to be careful with the amount of alcohol that you're drinking like if you're turning up all the time you got toxic buildup in your liver, that's obviously going throughout your body. It also dehydrates to your body making it so that you need to drink more water. It causes inflammation in your scalp and we know inflammation can lead to again alopecia different types of Ella peaches. Some are less severe than others, but I can slow the rate of your cell turnaround and your hair growth and, and my last tip is to exercise. This is the one that I'm not perfect at either. But exercise is amazing for not only your body, your mental health, but also your hair growth. The reason that we give ourselves scalp, massages and everybody knows this - is to get the blood flowing and pumping through our scalp. Well, exercise is also amazing because it gets your heart rate up. It gets you breathing in oxygen and your blood pumping, and it gets your blood traveling throughout all your the veins in your body, and that also includes your scalp. So when you're getting exercise, you're also feeding your hair, I know there's a lot of controversy on the inversion method. They'Re like flipping your head around and the blood is supposed to feed you here, a hair and scalp, and let's take like laugh about it, but it really does work. It works on gravity. Your body has veins that work in different ways where some pump up some pump down but they're all working to pump according to gravity yeah. If you flip yourself upside down, you are helping that blood to get to your scalp. That'S why, when you, you know when you flip yourself upside down and then you come back your face is red because there's blood in it now like legit, like you, can see the blood in your face. I don't understand why people don't believe this exercise works in a very similar way to massaging your scalp to inversion method, especially if you're doing yoga like downward dog. It'S all of that is great or if you're just like running, because the blood is going to be pumping at a really fast rate. So exercise is amazing for blood movement and hair growth. It makes you thirsty it makes you drink more water. It helps to reduce stress and the less stress that you have the less inflammation you have, the less inflammation you have. The healthier your hair and scalp is stress, is not only bad for your body, but it's bad for your physical appearance. I feel like this is like such a great video for anybody who's looking to grow their hair, healthy and long. It just doesn't know where to start on their healthy hair journey, even if you just implement one of these tips, it's really gon na help. You a lot because, just in my experience over the years, I've just tried so many different things, and I learned so much about like my body and hair and how would I eat would I consume what I do to my body mentally physically. All these things, such a huge effect on your hair, because remember at the end of the day, your hair is a protein and your hair is the least important protein in your whole body. If I mentioned any videos within this video to demonstrate a point, I'm gon na have those linked in the description as well as in the information bar. I hope you guys are having a great day, and I will see you in the next one.

Mella Butter: NOTES: 1. Clarify your scalp regularly (Naptural85 cleanses once a week) Don't wait longer than 2 weeks 2. Truly moisturize your hair regularly. Oils, Aloe Vera, Water and a sealing butter. Don't just use oil 3. Get trims. Some people like to schedule regular trips. Naptural85 only trims when she sees split ends 4a. Try to do gentle styling. Limit hairstyles that stress the root such as a slick ponytail and slicked back looks. Be careful of what accessories you're using in your hair. 4b. Take your time and detangle 4c. Make sure you are in a good mood when you are detangling 5. Use protective style. Don't just leave it, make sure your hair is styled gently 6. Keep hair stretched. Such as twist and braid outs. Shrunken hair from wash and gos can cause more wear and tear. 7. Choose healthy hair products. Reach for products that are better for your hair 8a. Drink more water and less sugary drinks. Even if the sugar is healthy, you should limit the sugar. Drinking a lot of caffeine is BAD for hair growth 8b. Be careful with the alcohol that you're drinking 9. EXERCISE! It get's the blood flowing and pumping through your body. It works similar to the inversion method and massaging your scalp.

You still do not need it, make up that is

Daphne Kong: I've been doing more twist and braid outs and noticed my hair retaining more length and moisture. Thanks for this video!

Qiana: Love this video. Especially the “lower your sugar” and “drink more water” talk! I switched to monk fruit, stevia and erythritol about a year ago and wow .... not only have I lost a ton of weight, but my hair and skin are flourishing!

Virginia Porter: No advertising just plain and clear hair tips at no cost! Yes!

AnGi: GREAT TIPS! Ty After 3yrs natural, I'm FINALLY LEARNING MY 4Z HAIR! My hair loves Aloe vera, Avocado EVERYTHING and the Essential growth oils.. It's growing and flourishing like crazy!! Also, I've been drinking lots of water & recently watermelon juice, OMG!! I MAKE MY OWN, no added ingredients, put in the freezer for 30min, #slushie.. So DELICIOUS, So Healthy & getting my water in. Just received your MELANIN Cream...

Janethia Payton: Hey Whitney . I freaking love you ❤️ and I have been following your channels since the beginning of my Natural Hair journey for almost 7 years. I'm a cosmetologist who specializes in Natural Haircare. Just want to say that on average no matter what hair type or race, everyone's hair begins to split every 3months. So it's best to trim ⅛ of an inch or less (assuming that's the only damage they have) just as it's starting to split. At the end of the year clients retain more length than when they wait longer than 3months. So that's 4 trims a year or 1 trim a season. This eliminated a ton of problems including excessive shedding/ tangling/ dryness/knots and keeps a cute shape. However that is the average recommendation. I believe your hair is stronger than most and can go longer without a trim. Some people need them a little sooner. I just wanted to explain the reason for scheduling trims as you mentioned in your video. I'm so thankful for all that you do for the natural hair community and will definitely be purchasing some of your products. Love ya, stay true.

FaithPeach: Your insight to natural hair care is timeless...I mean, I could come back 2-5 years from now (& beyond that!) & still find this video helpful to maintaining my hair health. Putting it simply: this is good stuff lol. Thank you Whitney!!! ❤️

s thomas: Whitney, you and mahogony curls were the only ones on youtube when I started my journey in 2011, you are still awesome!! I now have hip length healthy natural hair and I will continue to do whatever you say LOL

May LaVerne Barnes: Great tutorial. I have been growing out my TWA for the last 6 months (Natural for 15+ years). I will start self trimming my ends instead of trips to my favorite barber. Your products look great and I look forward to purchasing very soon.

Chloé Veal: I like that you included the stretched hair tip. Although I love my natural pattern, it gets dry and tangled very quickly. I would have to wet my hair and add product everyday to keep it nice, but stretched out hair like twists outs definitely last longer and stay moisturized. Less tangling. Thanks!

Lauren Evans: Hey whitney! The wash n go tip was just what I needed to hear! I, too, fell in love with my texture years ago. I wear my wash and go on a regular basis (usually slicked into a low ponytail or high bun, if not out). I noticed my growth has pretty much plateaued. I guess I got lazy. Thanks for the tips! Keep doing what you're doing!

Aida F.: Thank you so much for this video Whitney!! LOVE your tips and yes, I have a BAD habit of putting my hair in tight ponytails or buns ALL Summer long because I just can't take loose hair and humidity lol!! But because of that my edges are thinning and so is my overall hair thickness!! It's stressing me out so can't wait to try your tips!!

Ciara Cooper: New subscriber!!! Did the big chop 2 hours ago. I had quite a head of hair but it was very unhealthy and severely damaged. I can't wait to see the results from your tips. I'm taking you on my journey. Thank you so much.

Isabelle Stewart: Honestly the most amazing extensions I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a lot over the years. The thickness and length is perfect which makes the application so much easier. I definitely could not live without my Zalas and will be a lifelong customer They’re such an easy company to deal with and shipping was so fast

Twistncoils tee: Very informative as always, I am back on a healthy journey! I am going to commit to washing my hair every two weeks, I definitely agree with you on cleansing your scalp. I was cleansing once a month and my hair broke off very bad Congratulations on 1M subscribers

Ghibli Fiend: As someone with thick, coarse, dry 4c hair stretching my hair helped soooooo much. I also noticed I have like a cut off point when my hair gets to a certain length after I started learning about my hair more. Over the past 2 years I have done 3 big chops (because at one point my hair breakage was so bad because of of the stress from uni from doing my dissertation, the other 2 times were honestly because I cba with hair ) Now I have a TWA (soon to get braids) its much more manageable and honestly I like my hair short but I really want length retention so I would need to keep it constantly stretched (which honestly I don't really like doing cuz I don't have much time). Trimming my hair is what I need to get better at cuz honestly i never really did that before my big chop 2 years ago (my afro was quite big) my main issue with my hair is moisture retention and with the patience and gentleness with detangling which I hope to learn more about on my hair journey! Also I am from the UK so does anyone any good black owned brands I can get? As a lot of the natural hair youtubers are from the USA and there are sometimes brands they talk about that I've personally never seen before

Kate Azu: Congrats on 1 million subscribers! All these tips are great.

Sada S: Been watching your videos for years and I love them! Thank you so much! My challenge is moisturizing my hair before and while its stretched and keeping it stretched. The best stretch for me is a (tension method) blow out. How do you moisturize before and during a blow out. TIA!

Valerie Yates: Great tips Whitney. I was about to scroll through all your videos to find this information. I’m about to restart my healthy hair routine after dealing with an illness. Appreciate you❤️

ImadeULook: Thank you so much for this tutorial it was super helpful I have short natural hair and it is coily and I do get single strand knots and it's super frustrating. now that I know that keeping my hair stretched is important for length I will be adding this to my regimen thank you so much you are appreciated!

aliciabrillante: Thank you for doing an updated video on this because your hair is growing like Rapunzel and for years and years I have trusted you 100%. You always give great advice and my hair is so much healthier because of you! God bless you sistah❤️

KITTEN MAYZ: I have no problem with hair growth it’s maintaining my length

Thai: Thanks so much. I really appreciate all the great hair tips. Your hair looks very healthy. I have put my hair in a protective style since March and it is now natural since the perm has grown out. I wash it more than I use to and the texture of my hair is much better. Keep making these videos. It helps a lot.

Ms Kim: I agree with the twist out. I’ve been wearing a wash and go for a few months now and my hair has been dry. This week I did my twist out and my hair said “THANK YOU!!” My hair is back to normal, soft, moisturized and manageable.

India D: First off Whitney I love you and your call to action for the natural hair, brown skin babes❤️! I finally officially went natural 2 years ago by doing the big chop. I made several attempts prior to and would get so frustrated that I’d call it quits and go back to the creamy crack‍♀️. After many failed attempts I decided I’d do my homework and learn about natural hair products. I watched hundreds of videos and stumbled across your channel! Huntie I had to grab a notebook.....to hell with a piece of paper. I learned so much from you and I thank you so much. I tried everything you recommended and used it until I figured out how it worked with my hair. You are a godsend. Since my journey many of my family and friends have now gone natural and they are loving the journey. What I love most about you is that you educate us on how to fall in love with the strands we have not the ones you have❤️. I now love my texture which I once hated especially as a child. I love how healthy my hair is now. I love this video because I get the same question as you....how did you grow your hair so fast? They don’t understand lol. Now I can send them to this video! Thanks again. Love & blessings

Lolitha Sappatini: Thank you so much Whit, these tips were amazing and I will definitely share with all. Most folks in my home country, Namibia, do not really know healthy hair practices and are forever yanking out loads of hair due to excessive combing. I hope these tips will allow them to change their unhealthy hair practices.

Leah Decorates: You are the AUTHORITY when it comes to hair gurus giving advice! I always trust the thing that you say about hair. I really appreciate you always being honest. I’m with you #NoStrandsLeftBehind

Persis Elaine: Great advice, I’ve been getting split ends and double strand knots, but could never understand why until now, thank youuuu

yarnsrj: It's crazy how you can't use coconut oil any longer when you could years ago! Love all your tips though. Natural hair is a lifestyle change that we have to embrace fully and your tips are great.

karma centrik: You look amazing! After i stopped breastfeeding my son I lost 70 percent of my hair which was full and thick....now thin and shedding. Thank you for the help!

Alizah Saladin: My hair has never felt so moisturized until I started using Melanin Haircare Products. I can’t wait until your product lines grows even more!! I’m dealing a lot with breakage in my crown so I’ve been super religious with your hair advice and my hair is definitely healthier from root to ends!

Pernisha G.: Thank you for this reminder. I cannot stand the middle of my hair because it gets super dense and curlier and frustration kicks in. Every time I get to the middle of my hair I think to myself "I see why people straighten their hair." Also, I have a daughter now so I definitely don't want to take all day with my hair after I've done hers or even before I do hers.

Simply_JodiAnn: I grew my hair fast mainly by moisturizing it (my hair is over 22 inches long :). I just made my first YouTube video stating how important moisture is. Great advice.

Flower Girle: Great tips! For me I have found simplicity is key - clean hair, water, scalp massage, healthy lifestyle are my friends. Matter of fact, I’ve found that only using water on my hair for both washing and styling for the most part has been the most beneficial. Have seen the most manageability, growth and moisture/length retention with fewer knots and split ends. Hair also not as effected by humidity. My Wash and goes have been great too. Only “product” I use is a spray bottle of distilled water. No essential oils or oil or conditioner or anything. My hair’s sebum is doing most of the work.

Yvette Kirkland: I can certainly relate when it comes to wash n goes and getting the kinks. My hair comes out more at the ends because that’s where it gets tangled. So frustrating and the reason why I don’t do wash n goes often. My hair does so well when it’s stretched. I give this video

T. Thomas: Whitney...I cant believe I have had my Melanin for almost six months now....used in two heads...and I still have product left!! thank you so much for such a wonderful line that does work in multiple curl typed!!!!‍♀️

Miss Nolver: The first game changer in my hair growth last year, was your video about the avocado hair mask. So surprised that the back of my hair grew longer! Now I use so many DIY's, my hair grows faster than normal. Thanks a lot for that avocado hair mask video!

DNC Ministries, LLC: I take my tips from you and share with others. The pre-poo with the aloe Vera and the DIY Oil is a staple to my wash day. I’ve been doing that since January, and my hair has been loving it ever since. So thankful the Lord lead me to your channel!!!! Keep the videos coming!!! They are helping so many of us!!! And, Congratulations on 1M subscribers!!! You deserve it.

Eunique O.: Woman, you are the truth. The bomb! Thank you for such amazing tips. All so very true. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your experience. All well received, my lady. You're awesome Whitney. Thank you, your biggest fan from day one when you were an athlete with natural hair.

Ahmazin Heightz: I'm glad you pointed out not being negative while doing your hair also I feel secure when someone else is doing my hair that they're not angry or distracted in a negative way because I feel like my hair won't grow or be in a better State once that style is taken out!

Bromista Davis: Thank you SO much for what you've mentioned. I've never done a wash and go because I've learned my hair grows best when stretched ‍♀️. Twistouts have always helped in retaining my length. Also, the protective styling point is so KEY to growth. There are some people who really don't believe in doing it but it is seriously a major component in natural hair growth. There's no magic product/method in growing healthy hair --it's all about good practices!

Jaisy: I completely agree with all that you said... especially “ keep your hair stretched”. I love to wear my hair curly , but I don’t wear it often anymore. It was a hard lesson learned for me. I used to assume wearing my hair curly/natural was automatically healthier for my hair but would notice that I seemed to shed more hair and my ends seemed thinner when I would straighten after a curly period. It seemed like my hair was healthier when I was blow drying and flat ironing it ( which seemed like a crazy idea to me). While, I doubt the flat iron was doing any good for my hair, I’ve found my happy medium by still blow drying my hair once a week. Thanks for the video! I just posted my first 2 YouTube videos. Yay! It’s been a long time coming... happy I finally made the plunge

K McDaniel: Thanks for the tips! I thought I would never drink coffee without sugar until I found NutPods non-dairy creamer (Hazelnut is my fav). Now sugar in my coffee tastes weird. Didn’t think it was possible ‍♀️. Cutting sugar is game changer for overall health especially mental health.

Simone Neal: She has managed to grow her hair, cut it, grow it back etc. all within the span of the time I first began my hair journey to now ( 5 going on 6 years of being natural) and I only just began to reach armpit length last year. Going on to barely bra strap right now

Reesie Marie: This was great information. I have 3c hair and I've just started wearing it naturally curly. I love it and I get so many complements.

Greek Patterns: Washing my hair once a week just sounds like the biggest task eeeeevvveerrrr

Ronic M West: You where one of the first YouTubers I watched for natural hair when I went natural year's ago. I may one day decided to pay attention and work on retaining length. Your hair has flourished tremendously❤ and it's always been gorgeous , Thank you for sharing your journey.

Lyn Fields: My sister recommended your AWESOME channel. I just combed my locs out after 17 years, and I needed help with taking care of my loose hair. Your videos are PERFECT and have helped me and my hair tremendously. THANK YOU! By the way, your hair is gorgeous #hairgoals

A Marie: If you can manage, I suggest washing/ deep conditioning your hair 2x a week (3-4) days...wash with a co wash or Clay... it helped to relive the chronic dryness bc my moisture retention skyrocketed and the curls defined easier. It took about a month to see results. Also my hair grew at least an inch over a month and a half. Its worth your time

Moe Light: Finally started seriously trying to grow my hair out and it's been 10 months now and my hair has grown so much I was even surprised. Keep sending tips. Bless.

Nicole Hernandez: Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!! It looks so healthy and thick...And you're very knowledgeable. Thank you for the tips. I used to have very thick wavy hair, but I got sick and lost a lot of it I'm just trying to get my hair healthy!

jeanette terry: Whitney you really do look amazing in this video. Thank you for sharing your hair growing tips. You show so much passion towards hair growth! Thank you. God bless you and your family.

Shawnell Henry: One of your past videos talked about growing your hair doing twist outs, more stretched styles. I’ve tried it and have seen good results. Keeping my hair stretched has worked to gain length. Now to become good at keeping my ends on par to maintain the length

Amy U.: I used to do wash and gos ALL THE TIME and so much of my hair broke off. Wearing stretched styles really makes a difference.

Lauren Marie: Really informative and super great video. I am struggling with my hair for SEVERAL reasons. I have not always been natural around maybe 7 years. I am still trying to figure it out. I have several chronic health issues that I am dealing with. Fibromyalgia (which tends to affect my hands and arms like arthritis), migraines (which keep me from doing anything remotely tight to my hair, and endometriosis and PCOS ( so my hormones are out of whack at times). My hair is thinning in the front right now. I know I need to work on my hormones and stress levels right now. Anyway, I can't do many protective styles ( too much tension on my nerves). I am confused about the whole"stretching thing". I basically pretty much do a wash and go all the time. I know taking the number of medicines that I do is not helping at all. I am 33 yrs old and would really like to enjoy my hair more. I feel pretty hopeless about it right now. I know that may sound dramatic, but it's the little things as a woman that can really make you feel a lot better about yourself. I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance

Shariee Smith: Wonderful advice. I'm really focused on growing out my hair but I want healthy hair as well. What a great video.

Mia Bella Li: You are glowing!! Yep those wash and gos are so pretty, I love my curls but those tangles and single strand knots are the devil. I am a blowdry girl now. The revair has been my go to for my weekly drys. My hair has been thriving. It is so soft, moisturized the length retention is on point and my curls are still beautiful. No more cutting off my length every few months.

MHJGH: Great tips.I completely agree with all of it because that's exactly what helped my hair health and growth the last 15 years. Overall health in your life is very important to think about rather then stress you self out with hairloss problems. And NO, don't relax your hair at all what so ever, that thing is very dangerous.

K: If I’m taking hair advice from anyone...it’s you lol

talk2bink: Thanks for the lower sugar tip. So often we hear about gels, creams, and products but rarely do we learn about insulin/DHTs impact on hair loss and growth.

Winter: I have been growing my hair out for about 3 months and I have just been keeping my hair in cornrows and washing it about twice a month and this has REALLY been helping my hair grow and RETAIN LENGTH. what's important is that I keep my ends moisturized and just about twice a day I moisturize the ends with shea butter and water. I oil my scalp just about every other day and when I just feel my hair needs it, I spray my hair with water.

CharlieGo Crazy: I’ve been taking advice from her and some others modifying where needed and my hair has been flourishing! I’m high porosity, medium/high density, coarse hair as well and I did a product review in the shower and my results and I’d appreciate constructive feedback and tips and products y’all use! XOXO ‍♂️

J Mélanie: Helpful information as always. You were the first natural hairstyle channel I watched when I decided to stop putting heat on my hair, and your videos have been so helpful, I too had to learn when everyone was using coconut oil on their hair and I too begin using it, that it just wasn't what my hair wanted, olive oil seems to do the trick. So you're right that it's important as we are trying things to pay attention to how our hair/bodies respond, and to be gentle with our hair.

Debbrah Blain: Thank you sooo much for the tips! I ALWAYS do wash and go hairstyle and my hair becomes SUPER dry even when I moisturize it and ie so tangled up! I will try twist outs because my hair is not growing past my armpits for years!!! Thank you soooooo much!! Keep up the good work!

MsCatrin: Great tips! You're right about coffee without sugar, it's not the same LOL! I'm working on cutting down on my sugar intake because I tried it before and I found that it really made a difference. Side note..I love that aloe plant!!

EpiC coconut: 1. Wash your hair/scalp. AGREED. After cowashing for 1.5 yrs, I've decided to go back to frequently cleaning my scalp due to the itch and hairbreakage ive experience. 2. Moisturizing. Yes, oil is not enough. I've learned the hard way it just sits on top and get all over my pillows and wraps instead of my hair where it needs to be. Going back to leave-ins. 3. Trim. Nope. I do not apply any heat whatsoever so skipping. 4. Gentle styling. YEP! My scalp gets sore from all the tugging/pulling from the ponies causing breakage from the root. 5. That wide tooth Comb. I had 3 and i wasn't using them. Shamw on me. Finger detangling is always a must now that i know how to do it properly with conditioners before washing. 6.Healthy Products. Agreed 1000% A lot of these "natural" products still have the same toxic chemicals we're all trying to avoid. Same pig different lipstic. Switching to products from bak in the day. Okay, thank you.

Shay Tinney: I really needed this advice. I’ve been doing nothing but wash-n-gos for a full year thinking I was doing my type 4 hair some good but I’ve noticed that I have sooo many single strand knots. I contemplated stretching my hair but was concerned about causing more stress to my strands. So I’m glad you took the time to provide us with this information bc I really needed it. Thank you for this video.

Lannie Bass: This twist out is just beautiful and I love that you let your silver strands be. ❤️ I’m a new natural (8 months) so I appreciate this type of credible knowledge.

Sanvhill: Thanks for being so honest. People lead you on to believe you get to your length in months. Yes our hair can grow, well retain length that is by getting healthy hair. I'm learning to listen and not just do. I wash lightly one day during the week and my major wash every Sunday. That is clay mask, deep conditioner, pre-poo, and clarifying shampoo. Thanks again. I use oil every other day or day sometimes so I lightly run water over my hair then small amount of hydrating shampoo then just leave in conditioner. I need to learn new ways like wash and go. For the whole year I stayed in braids my year mark is almost here. Yayyy. I am on track I use shea butter, growth oil, and now creams. Thanks for your aloe vera tip I love the powder and leaf. Need a shape-up. But I have trimmed at least once this year.

V: One thing you said that I had just started to do is wear my hair stretched. It is so true, no heat and more moisture is working very well. Thanks for all your tips.

Glorian Leonard: New subscriber , love how honest and helpful your advice is! Exactly what I needed! Thank you!

Magano: Just started to document my hair journey here on YouTube.. I really learn a lot from you Whitney. Much love

Ms. Zaneta: She's right about alepecia. I suffer from it because of a high stress level. Losing your hair in clumps is very sobering and scary. I had to check and change what was making me stressed out and now my hair is growing back! Its a slow process but, Im glad that my hair is coming back. Hopefully, I will be able to loc my hair again.

up4atgal: Congratulations on a million Whitney, you deserve every one

Chameria Law: Whitney is completely right about Type 4 hair wearing stretched styles for length retention. But, if you love wearing your hair in a wash n go and want to avoid breakage at the same time, simply redo your hair more often. The looser your curls/coils are the longer you can stretch your wash n go. Likewise, the tighter your curls/coils are the shorter amount of time you can wear your wash n go before it needs to be redone. I found this tip from Natural Hair Stylist & YouTuber Anthony Dickie. As a result, I've been able to retain length by doing wash n gos on my 3c/4a hair like every 2-3 days. I never rock the same wash n go over three days to avoid dryness. So far so good cause I'm at waist length!

Yaya Y: Your story is my story, highlighted my thin, curly hair blonde. 1 stylist did great and then the touch up months later with another stylist.... She destroyed it. My hair fell out in chunks in the weeks that followed. I'm still going thru it. My hair takes an hour to detangler, it feels matted at the scalp... So I have to go slowly to try to minimize breakage. I'm on a journey, need strength, growth, cuts, etc

QUEEN Chakra: You said It! A lot of ppl think just bc they have braids and get a wig or sew in for however long that it’s an automatic “protective style”

April Allen: I just loc'd my hair ...but...I'm back to hear your advice bc it's still very relevant to my new situation. Thx!❤

Nicole Obi: I'm just staring my hair journey. I actually already do alot of the things you discussed. However, having problems with know what products are safe for my hair, maintaining moisturize in hair throughout the day, and stretching it out. All I do is wash n goes and I have the same problem with it drying out more, knots, tangles, etc. Do you have a video for these things?

qnicole3333: Oh my gosh!! Yeeessss!! That makes sense to me! I’m in the wash and go stage after highlighting and have been wondering why it’s not growing. It has been shrinking and detangling a lot more and been super confused as to why it’s not growing. I do need to try twists out again. I think it’ll help keep my hair hydrated. Thank you for sharing this!!

Imani M: I love your hair so much, it's beautiful! I've got locs and have had them for most of my life, but want to find some way to comb them out and your style has always been goals for me!

Jade Wright: You are so knowledgeable, thank you so so so so MUCH for this video! This is VERY helpful for me! You are literally the Madam C.J Walker of our generation and I am HERE for it sis‍♀️

Hattie Colley: Thank u so much. Learning what my hair liked was the answer. Vi agree with u totally that once we learn what works, do it consistently. What a great thing for me. Now I really enjoy keeping my hair shampooed, deep conditioned and using the LOC method for moisture retention. Also, I have noticed that my hair will also let me know when it is time to do the procedures all over again. I am natural since 2005, and I do not use chemicals of any kind (allergic), and invested in good hair tools to help me maintain my hair. Thank u again, I appreciate you for sharing, and ur hair is not only wonderful in length, it is very healthy.

AA T0648: ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for this. I’ve been practicing these, but need to be more consistent.

Patricia Franklin: Thank you. This is a spot on tip video on hair journey. I posted you on FB 2021. Best I have seen. My hair type us Coily also. Whoo! Shrinkage is real. Even finding right hair type and products was a long journey. My hair grow straight from scalp. Then coils. This was a 10 + video. Blessings.

Rocknalldatime99: This video made me realize all the ways i've been slacking with my hair lol. Like ripping through it, waiting until it's on it's LAST breathe before moisturizing, skimping on washing Thank you for the tips girl. No more slacking

Leila W: My hair grows very fast, natural TBL. Just had like literally 4 hair cuts last year and its like nothing happened. May flatten occasionally for easier manageability and time saving. I watch your videos for inspirational tips, more on what to do with all this hair (have been suggested layers to lighten up the weight) because I'm the lazy sort; always chignons, messy bun or having someone else do it. My issue is..how to cut hair washing time short? It takes me up from 20 mins to an hour just to wash it well-excessive oil build up, barely put anything except for conditioner oil mix (once a week). Styling afterwards? 2 extra hours, arms be tired lol.

B. Lew: Girl your right it's been awhile since you've done this one lol...wow that felt like last week! lol love you keep doing great things!

VJ Corp: I never trimmed my hair I dipped my ends in flaxseed gel it's long and healthy, also when women have babies their hair grows as well, I've followed your channel for the DYI's which I've been obsessed with and guys fenugreek mix with the Alo Leaf my hair loves it!!!!!! the maple smell is not bad at all...... don't add anything extra just those 2 ingredients
