Here'S the deal for today's video, i'm gon na, lay some perspective down on the table, and you guys you just soak it up. Okay, that's your only job! After all, the hair tips and tricks and hairstyle tutorial videos that i've done. How many of you guys still can't figure out why you're not getting the hairstyle that you want? Maybe you go in for a haircut based off of a photo. You know you're like here's the photo. This is what i want, but the outcome isn't exactly uh. You know doesn't live up to the expectation that you had now. Perhaps it's your hairstylist's fault, maybe they're not super skilled, but more often than not, and what's more likely, it actually falls more on you and always remember, no matter what hair type or style you're going for blue one has a product that can take your hair to The next level bluemont.com it's in the description of this video, if you're looking to take your air game to then take it uh. If you're looking for your next product to up your hair game, boom.com is the place to be got it linked down below. So the inspiration for today's video actually came from the last video that i posted, where i went the shortest that i have ever gone. This is now what like two weeks from that video, i think, a great place to start whenever you're, getting a new haircut or a new hairstyle for the first time is to have a reference photo to show your hairstylist you're, like i'm, trying to switch things up. This is roughly what i'm trying to do now before i show you guys the reference photo that i used. I want to show you guys the actual result of that short haircut without comparing to the photo that i used. I'M guessing. You think the cut looks pretty clean right. It'S a nice skin fade it's blended! Well, it's a simple shortcut up top with some texture. I mean it's a clean haircut, so it must be exactly what i was expecting right. Well, now that you've seen that i want to show you the reference photo that i started with it's this one right here and before we go further, i want to know about your initial reaction. Do you feel that the finished style that i got looks like this? Is it kind of close? Does it look really different? Can you see the resemblance, but not quite sure, what's off or what's different now this takes me to the main point of this video. It'S the importance of paying attention to the nuance of hairstyles and hair types and setting expectations for yourself when you're trying out new hairstyles, especially for the first time so, let's break down my photo example versus the finished result that i actually got, because i think that Yeah, maybe even though these two photos look a little different, i got exactly what i asked for. Let me explain, first of all check out the difference between our forehead size. This dude has a tiny forehead with a fairly low hairline. My forehead, on the other hand, is actually pretty big, and my hairline towards both corners goes back quite a bit further than mr small forehead over here, and this is actually more clearly obvious when i wear my hair back like in this example right here, you can See my hairline is simply higher up and whenever i wear my hair, like this, people always think that i'm receding. But it's just literally me wearing my hair back versus forward and yeah. My hairline is just a little higher. That'S just genetics right there and it was a limitation that byron the stylist had to consider when he was trying to take inspiration from my photo example and translate it to my own head. Second, it's a little hard to tell, but i've got a cow look on the front right of my head right here, which makes my hair kind of curl up and it just sticks up in a different direction, making it hard to replicate the even result from the Other dude, so before kind of considering any of this, you know i saw my finished hairstyle. I thought that it looked pretty good, but i was like it doesn't. Look, you know kind, it doesn't match exactly the expectation of the photo that i had. The thing is, though, to any of you guys who didn't know the reference that my perception was based off of it. The finished result, probably just looked like a nice simple, clean cut. My whole point here is that you have the most perspective over your own hair and how it looks you know more than anyone else, so, the next time that you go in for a haircut based off of a reference photo or a kind of a finished image That you have in your mind - and it doesn't look quite right - understand that each person will rock a general version of a hairstyle in a personalized. U, and that should actually be seen as a good thing. But this brings me to perspective shift number two too often, people try too hard to replicate a hairstyle that they like exactly not taking into account their own hair type or hair texture or face shape, which is something that not enough people understand. The importance of is your own face shape and how your hair works. With your face, your best move is to find inspiration of a hairstyle. You like, then, allow that hairstyle to grow into your own, with all your little hairs, quirks and behaviors, and everyone just has something different going on the top of their head. You know, find the inspiration and then allow it to be molded to you. You need to set yourself up to maximize your own hair's potential, rather than piggybacking off of someone's maximized hair potential. Does that kind of make sense? I remember when i was younger and still fairly naive when it comes to just general hair information. I'D always see hairstyles like these and think man, these just look so sick. I really want to try this out at the time, though i didn't have a good understanding on the difference between hair texture, the key difference being all these pictures that you see here are thinner. Hair types like they've still got a lot of hair, but uh their hair type itself is thinner versus my very thick hair tie. It was quite the learning process for me to figure out the right length of hair that i needed to actually successfully pull off. Like a messy slick back for example, and spoiler alert people with thicker hair, your hair needs to be generally longer. Take this example right here, comparing dre drexler's hair and my hair in these videos, which i'll link to both of them below for anyone interested he styles, his hair in a slicked. Back and honestly, it looks pretty effortless for the finished result. Notice compared to my hair dress is much shorter and still able to achieve the result that he's after kind of that slick back, which is what i'm going for as well. My hair needs much more length to get a decent slick back to be like even slightly comparable. Also the process for dre to get there is pretty straightforward compared to my tutorial, which is much more complicated because it had to be for me and my hair type. So, even though both dre and i are showing you versions of the same hairstyle, they still look really different because our hair types fall heavily on the opposite end of the spectrum. Both slick backs just very different versions of the slick back, and this was the best way that i could explain that you can rock most hairstyles that you want. You just have to allow those hairstyles to fall into your own, taking inspiration, but not trying to replicate exactly you got to maximize your own hair's potential, not piggyback after someone else's maximum maximized potential. Thank you guys for watching. Hopefully i provided a little bit of perspective for you today, we'll see how long these uploads keep going we're still working on the salon stuff. I will have updates for you along the way when it makes the most sense to do so and i'll see you next time.

Exavior Gonzales: I often used this reference photo when I come in for a short crew haircut. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. It's also nice that you've touched on the realistic and practical results rather than the expectations when showing references for haircuts with slight differences in face shape, hair type, hair line while still making it fit the individual getting their hair cut.

Hariz: Love the positive messages in this video. U don’t have to stress out finding the desired hairstyle is not the same as u imagine in the photo. Instead, be the best in your own version

afiq jaffarran: Hear me out. I finally achieved the hair I want after I follow this YT channel since the beginning. I did keratin treatment, then everytime before blow-dry I use hair serum 4 drops. Then I used the flat wrap technique, and boom my hair stays the way I want, smooth, shiny and silky. It gets better if use some hair products. All thanks to this chanel

The Clown: I like my hair style. My main haircut for my entire life was the buzz cut. Until high school I changed it to the executive contour with a high skin fade and high shine using oil based pomade. But when it starts to grow out I do a neatly combed slick black.

Juan Pak: Not a long time ago, I found inspiration in you and tried to replicate your wonderful quiff. But my hair would fall all over the place because of its thin texture. Then I realized all the things you explain here. I started trying new hairstyles and embrace them on my own!

universal love: Every single thing you said in this video is what I have been needing to hear now for yearsssss !! I have had the same complaints, obsessiveness , and issues that you detailed in this vid . Thank you soooo much I really needed this

Brett Cooper: I think my problem is that I'm going for such a unique haircut and it is SO distinctive that it's taken me literally YEARS to perfect it, and it's still evolving. I'm basing my cut on a cut Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance had in 2011, and it's very unique and I'm still in the process of growing the bangs out and have been doing that for a year.

Anirudh Parthiban: This guy is a hair legend. every time you go through a certain hair problem, Joe is right there to give u valuable info. 100% quality hair content and no-BS look no further.

Jordan Camosy: Needed this video. Literally about to go get a haircut

Fab🎃: While hair type will play a role in the outcome of your haircut, head shape is ultimately what makes or breaks the final result. If you pause the video at 1:01 and then at 1:26, the top comes close to looking like the reference photo, but little nuances like BluMaan's finer/thinner hair are what begin to distinguish his cut from the reference. With a closer examination, the guy in the reference has a more rounded, egg-shaped head compared to BluMaan's flatter, elongated head. This is why, when looking at the comparison photos, the reference haircut seems to have more "body" versus BluMaan's flatter top. The haircut is going to follow the shape of the head, so reference photos should be chosen based on similar head shapes.

Lyle Bennett: ...and that is very true about different types of hair, I was talking about this with my barber and he goes through so many patrons that want a specific hairstyle they saw on Insta or a celebrity. Most don't work out cuz of the features you pointed out on what goes on with your individual scalp. I agree with you, you should make it your own. I have to admit, the short hair style you did looked pretty chill, but with your sides growing in and your texture up top, looks way good on you. It makes it you

degs: you said it perfectly. never try and mimic someone else’s cut bc that’s where you start to not like it. just take inspiration but never try and copy completely. try and be unique w it and work w what works best w your hair type, face and head shape, and just what you feel comfortable w

Al Dexter: As a barber, I get what this dude is saying and it’s true, hair type matters, but tbh your barber just didn’t cut your hair right too long on your top (need an inch off and some texturizing to achieve the look on top) and too low on your fade (you still have the c cup hooks in front of your ears)

bournechupacabra: YES. I have always had this problem it's so nice to see someone put it into words

elSkeletor38: I'd like to add that when you reference photos, be specific. If you mention "I want something like this (shows photo) medium fade with skin" but don't mention cutting or leaving the top your barber wont know. If you want it shorter just mention how long you want it to be or how much you want off. I always have to mention to new barbers I want medium fade skin, nothing off the top, no feathering and no line ups. Dont be afraid to tell them want you want or looking for, it makes it easier on them and your paying for a service get it the way you want(within reason)

Gavin Bannister: Nice, wholesome video. Helped reduce my haircut anxiety. Cheers!

LaCabra: I learned this a few years back but its so important and more people need to understand this, glad you made a vid on it. Great video as always

Revo Sarwono: Thank you so much joe! You're really helping me out because my hair type is similar to you and i also have a cowlick on my hairline

Slick Rick: The best thing that I ever did for myself was to learn how to cut my own hair. Save so much time and money and you don’t have to be pissed off at a barber for screwing up your hair and you get to cut it the way that you want to cut it and know how to cut it and stylet the way that you want to style it

A H: Hey man. I used to have thick hair when I have a side part hairstyle. But when I changed it to middle part 3 months ago, I noticed that I'm having significant hair loss when I shower and my hair is now noticeably thinner. Could this be just temporary while my hair is adjusting to the hairstyle?

kracktive: The moral of the video " You gotta maximize your own hair's potential not piggy backed after someone else's maximum maximized potential" -Bluemann

B: I don't know if you answer questions here, but I'll shoot my shot. The hairstyle in this video seems to be very pleasant and balanced compared to your other ones. I am just wondering what is the difference between this cut and the previous ones that seem to be far longer on top and shorter on the sides, because even the front (bangs), look shorter to the back compared to the other styles. Would appreciate the feedback! thanks

miguel: Thank you for explaining this, I've been wondering why I can't get the hair I want even though I showed the stylist a photo of how I want my hair to look

HIDDIH: Summarize of the video: don’t go to the barber and showing them brad Pitt picture also expecting to be like him

Slikhaar TV - Mens hair: Cool haircut fresh, like it the most when you have a little Hair on the sides 3-6mm Btw the frame/cut you went for, is so hard to grow out, I cut of all of my fringe 10years back for a video took me 6 months to grow back looking a little awkward in the process.

Long Nguyễn Phi: I have never seen such an useful video like this before. Thank you so much!!! ❤❤❤

Mythological Nomad: This is why I look at hair styles but I don’t bring them to a stylist. I tell them what I want and let them roll with it. Growing my hair out but shaved the sides. I’m pleased with how it looks currently and it’s not even fully grown out yet.

Mithil Agrawal: Quickly watching all the 3 recent videos before going for a haircut rn always appreciate the help

Saif Wasim: The short haircut u got from the last video is basically the cut I always got my whole life until I got sick and tired of the same thing and basically seeing every guy with skin fade medium/short cut. That's why I now have a 1 year and 5 months long hair and looks epic, especially trying something different

Rich Truscott: You and me have very similar hair texture/color/volume etc. different face shape but forehead is similar. So i 100% related to this video. It took awhile to figure it out, how to rock all the different styles and cuts i've had over the years. Especially the long slick-back look, that was quite flustering for awhile, I also found out sea salt-water spray (maybe from a video you did) really helped my texture for messy looks at any length.

Iván Durán Pérez: I love your videos. Thank you for making them ♥️♥️

Jordan O'Brien: of course Joe has to use my pic when I was 22 years old omg. :P

Moses Mata: How this video found me I have no idea but, grew out my hair this year, was about to cut my hair short again but now I am not anymore thank you !

Alex Denic: We have the same hair man, down to the cow lick and all. I’ve been following you for over 4 years and it seems like we’re always on and off the same hairstyle appreciate the content and positive vibe of it all

Kamal: Thanks for this!!! I understand it now!!❤️

Worldz_Gone_Crazy: The guy in the reference is more of an extremely short type of crop with a line up on the fringe, what you got was a textured quiff. They are two completely dirrent styles

Scott: This is so true! I always was envious of those same hairstyles that you showed but I just had too thick of a hair to pull it off.

Brandan Cantley: So true man! All these guys on google images are usually models and super attractive as well with chiseled jawlines and contoured faces. Asking for the haircut they have won’t change your face unfortunately lol, but we can all still look great!

littlebrojay: i still have trouble knowing if my hair is thick/thin... so i always cut it real short and then grow it out real long while i figure out what the heck I should do with it

Jesus Vazquez: For me the difference between both hair Styles is that yours is upwards in the front and his look like was laying forward and they lined it up and then they try to put it up and that's why it looks like it's going a little bit more towards the front

Pito Pito: LOVED THIS KIND OF VIDEO!!! I always show them a picture but im never really satisfied with the final look..

Danny: What would you recommend for a thick straight hair, sorta like Chinese hair? Normally I get a combover, really short on the sides and long on top. Want something new

Chernobyl_Employee: I used the exact same photo 2 months back when I got my haircut, and I got a similar finish except for the facial hair

Xyners: actually one of the best hair video i ever watched in my life

mamba109: 4:25 so can I go to the barber and be like... look at my face, look at my hair, what's trending, and what will work with my hair features? Of course there are styles I like and I'm not a stylist, but I know I have the typical unruly Asian hair with that swirl at the corner, goes all porcupine if too short, etc, so I know there are limitations of what I want vs what I can have

SKRMZ: every barber ive gone to in the last year has taken way too much hair off the top we start with 'none off the top', then 'just the ends' and next thing you know, its gone from 5/6 inches to half of that.

Wangdi: I love how marketing strategy come first before the main topic haha

Sharique Misbah: Inspiration 101

Clara Vianna: Ironically I took a screenshot of your last cut to show to my barber it looked pretty good

Deshan Pillay: Getting a great haircut for a square face is not always easy due to the wider angles so it has to be exact and precise

David Dora: Dude... I took this photo to like 4 different barbers in the last 2-3 years My hair is just totally different, so never came really close.

Nathaniel F: I got a haircut and I showed the lady cutting it the pics of you after you cut it very short in the video before, and they almost nailed it. I was very surprised because I can't remember I time I get a haircut that I actually liked. It's the shortest I have ever gone also

Dan 23: Missed these videos so glad he’s back

K C: This just happened to my brother a few days ago, he showed his barber a picture and it looks completely different from the picture... he hates it :(

KuyaJoms: Don't expect too much instead you kinda figure out that you might have a hairstyle/haircut version for yourself...

Star Child: When your hair has thinned out, you have a lot fewer options.

TheBlueGhost: Joe, what do you think of the latest TikTok hair trend for younger adults? The combed forward semi-wavey hair bangs with the tapered sides? You know the one I am talking about? I believe theSalonGuy did a tutorial on it recently.

TraumaER: *Moral of the Story:* If you don’t look like the person whose hair you are trying to copy, you won’t look like the person.

Trevor: my hairline brought me here lol it so hard to have a hairstyle when you have natural receeding hairlines. Currently go with a a 3 on side/ long top so you can obviously have some control

water: This is what I needed to hear all these years. Thx Joe for finally telling me

Jared R: Make hair products for the wavy/curly hair people :D

GamerTubeAwesome: Your natural hairline is also very important to pay attention to.

Ronan Fitzgerald: are you growing your hair again? if so, maybe do another 6 month growth challenge? i’d be happy to join in

Don S: 100% just a bad haircut. You didn't get what you wanted - even close. That means it was bad. It isn't some "thin hair vs thick hair non attainable goal". We have the same hair and I could easily get that textured layered short no fringe look. That's just a bad hair stylist - we've all been there and that's why I mostly cut my own hair. If I screw it up, no one else to blame but myself and it's free. Funnily enough - I'm good enough now to the point where I often get compliments when I do it myself, but when I pay people to do it, the job comes out different from what I want and the compliments disappear.

D C: I can tell the reference photo and your haircut was indeed different, being a barber definitely pay attention to detail to satisfy my clients.. it was a fresh cut though!!

KM Reviews: Well there’s also a major difference in how the stylist did yours. The fade wasn’t done nearly as well or as smooth amd the fade starts lower. Also the hair you have on top is wayyy longer than in that photo. Like your hairs in front are like an inch or longer and his is less than half that.

Soumo Ghosh: This is something i really needed good job bruhh

andrewdoeshair: I paused at 1:50 to make this comment, the rest of the video may make me look stupid though most of the time when someone brings a photo like that I’ll point out how short the corners actually are (much shorter than a traditional men’s cut), then I’ll point out that very short blunt fringe and then most clients would go “oh I didn’t notice it was THAT short and blunt...” then after tweaking it to what they actually thought they saw in the first place it’s not even the same haircut from the photo. This happens like 7 out of 10 times. People bring a photo with a deliberately bold statement piece in the haircut (like your inspo photo) then they back out once you isolate that statement piece for them.

Draconshot: Wait so bluu man now finally has a hair dye product that also works as a clay.

William Terry: I like this video. Explains that we basically judge our selfs waaay more than others… and yeah that dude has a tiny forehead, his eyebrows are basically his hairline lol

Aariz Sabri: Rockin' this hairstyle ⚡

Bhupi Chand: Hey joe, i am into my late teenage hears and I'm wonderin what i should do with my (thin hair follicled) goatee and mustache.

Gonzalo Collao: Man you look dynamite with short hair, the contrast with your head and face shape is sick

ebolahh_Same: Love your charisma

JTReviewsPlus: Literally the photo I was going to use for reference! Thanks for the vid haha

Charlie Bernaz: Nice video, continue like this !

H: The cut is not the same! The picture is kinda tapered cut imagine very short fohawk... Your cut is squared off at the top! Also head shape different which does affect the style... That's why the sides look similar but top completely different

knwr: I see your argument, but that hairstyle pic you brought in looks like a caesar cut fade. You recieved just a normal fade, no caesar cut at all. I wouldn't say that's something your hair can't do, that's what hairdressers say when they don't know how to give you the hair you asked for. Many times I've gone in to get a cut, it doesn't look the way I want, then I cut it myself and get way closer to the style I was told is impossible with my hair. Sometimes the hairdresser just doesn't know how to do what you want them to do. In your case I think it's entirely possible to have a caesar cut in the front, but it probably wouldn't be as full looking in the corners due to the shape of your hairline as you mentioned. You can't spike it up the way you are though, and the fact that the hairdresser did that when you went in tells me they didn't know what they were doing. Some of the front hairline needs to drop forward to create the "low hairline" look, which the picture you provided also does.

Jack Dixy: imagine having a high hairline, big forehead, widow's peak, natural cowslick, wavey/curley hair and start receding to a Norwood 3 at age 23 (26 now). Your all blessed trust me

Klein: Glad that I have the same type of hair and face shape as yours, Joe

Kush Sharma: Tbf though the picture and your cut were styled a bit different. Your hair going up in sort of a textured quiff whilst the picture being styled down in a textured crop. Great video though it took me a while to realize that my fine hair wouldn't be able to pull off all these thick hair hairstyles lol.

Team50Fitness: I am a barber the reason your haircut does not look like the photo is because he needs to have a slight disconnect on the sides and by that I mean not a perfect fade but more importantly for your Fringe it needs to be blunt cut. And then you do a lot of texture cutting into the hair and thats it

Dun Jel: Andrew Does Hair did a video on this topic just a few days ago. You all gotta watch it - very inspirational.

Speediablo: Who else finds it hard to like your hairstyle when you get haircuts from your parents

Anonymous Streamer: You are my motivation

Eli C: Definitely true..I have a double crown cow lick sooooo that means my hair is not going to do what pictures show it should look like...lol

Briana Martinez-Santillan: I have a cowlick on the side of my head and my hair goes in different places

Joseph Alvarado: Thats the exact photo I had used for my barber last time, gave me an epic cut

Fumerie Hilaire: Oh this video should just be labelled for guys with thick wavy/curly hair with cows licks. Absolutely NO hairstyles are ever invented for this hair type.

Aldo Vivero: You legit have all my hair type problems

Mettlesome: This is so obvious but DAMN Joe's hair is FREAKING GORGEOUSSSSSS

Sam H.: Your advice is very sound. However, if you're expecting a fade like the picture, a "stylist" isn't gonna get you there. Imo, a diverse barber could've gotten you a lot closer to the picture. A salon will never compete with a barber turning out 10+ fades a day.

Caskalaya: needed this!!

Miguel Lopez: My hair is thinning and falling out. I wish I can pull these hairstyles off. I miss it my hair :(

Veron Andre Soreng: Ur the best hair expert!!! Guys he deserves 100 mil subs

Sudhanshu Somani: Please make a video on daily hair care routine ....

Nabranes TwistyPuzzler: 5:32 But your hair was almost the same length as Dre’s hair except you just didn’t have much of an undercut. Also, btw, I think I want to try volume like that except better the next time that I do so.

Om Prakash Xb 28: My Barber was jealous of my hair he took all my Hai last time

Estilo con Alejandro Pérez: Dope jacket bro, I missed you these 8 months glad to have you back!

mahaveer jain: I've blumaan original styling meraki but it has no expiry date written on it, how do I know it's expired or how much time can we use the product
