It'S your man alex and welcome back to my youtube channel in today's video i'm going to be going over 10 big mistakes that you guys need to avoid when you're cutting your own hair. If you guys don't know who i am my name is alex, i'm pretty big here on youtube known for my haircut videos. My first self haircut, video is around 5.4 million views right now. You guys can check that out i'll leave it in the card section. Above for you, so i know there's a lot of people out there that are currently trying to cut their own hair, and i hope in today's video i can offer you guys some really good tips and good advice on things you need to avoid when you're cutting Your own hair, so if that sounds good, make sure you guys leave this video like subscribe down below if you're new to my channel and let's get right into this video yeah boy, you got this come on. Let'S go you got this, i'm ready! Let'S go! Let'S go, oh no, why you do me like this? Oh man, i'm so sorry, everyone! I had to do that in at least one of my videos, but the first big mistake you need to avoid is taking too much hair off with your initial guideline. As you can see on screen right now with my previous haircuts, my initial guideline is just about half an inch to one inch in length from my ear, so you need to make sure you only cut about half an inch to one inch around the size of Your head and then, as you approach the back of your head, you can cut off a little bit more on a downward angle to make your initial guideline flow with your head shape, and so this brings me into the second mistake, and that is having a crooked Guideline think of cutting these lines in your hair as art, your biggest goal is to make sure these lines are as perfectly straight as possible. The reason for this is because, with straight lines, it will make fading in those hard lines extremely easier, and you won't need to constantly mess with the lever on the clippers to blend in those weird angled cuts you made with the initial guideline, as you can see, With this haircut, i'm using my clippers with no guard and the lever closed. This basically means i'm going for the most bald look possible with my initial guideline. If you need to practice the motions, i recommend you turn off your clippers and position your body accordingly, using your mirrors, pretend like you're, cutting your hair with the clippers turned off this way you can get used to the motion while looking through the mirrors, if you Guys have any questions regarding my mirror setup when cutting my hair click, the link in the card section above in the upper right corner to watch my mirror setup with a fade video. If you practice these things, your initial guidelines should come out as straight as mine. Now the third big mistake to avoid is not using your lever on the clippers to fade in those hard lines. Typically, the best way to fade in the hard lines is to adjust your lever to the halfway position. So normally your lever is either closed for shorter cut or open for a slightly longer cut, but with the lever halfway open, you can use this lever position to flick up and away to try and get rid of that hard line. Make sure you place your clippers. Just below the hard line and then flick up and away your goal is not to dig into the next section of your hair. Your goal is to blend in that hard line using the lever in this self haircut. My initial guideline was done using the number one guard with the lever closed. So i'm switching back and forth between the lever halfway open to the lever, completely open when blending in that hard line. So this was the final product of the fade for this self haircut and i think it was honestly one of my best fades to date. The fourth biggest mistake you need to avoid when cutting your own hair is cutting too high on the side of your head, and i mean so high that you're digging into the hair on top of your head. This is a very, very big no-no. The best way to avoid cutting the length on top of your head is to make sure you have a distinct part line. Now, unless you're going for a buzz cut, you can ignore this tip, but for you guys that buzz your head, you still need to be smart about how far you go up your head using a single guard. So when parting, your hair find the corner of your eyebrow, where the horizontal part of your eyebrow meets the part that angles downward grab your comb and position. The comb straight up. Your part line should also be very close to the corner of your forehead. Once you've found your part line, grab your comb and glide the teeth, long ways from the front of your head to the back of your head, then comb, the hair down to the side of your head, lift up your comb and start combing the excess hairs down. Those excess hairs are going to get cut along with the rest of the hair on the side of your head, you can do the exact same technique to part the other side of your head. The fifth biggest mistake you need to avoid is wetting your hair. Before using your clippers recently, i saw a youtuber recommend to wet your hair before cutting it and i almost internally exploded. Look your clippers are not meant to be cutting wet hair. They are designed to slice through dry hair when you wet your hair, you're, adding density and weight to your hair. This is going to choke up your blades and destroy your clippers, especially if you have cheaper clippers. Your clipper blades are going to get caught in your hair and it's going to hurt you really bad, so please do not wet your hair before cutting it. With the clippers, save yourself from the pain and your clippers from breaking the sixth biggest mistake. You need to avoid when cutting your own hair is not shaping up your neck line up according to the natural contour of your specific head shape trimming your neck can be somewhat tricky because you have to bend your arm in weird angles. But if you practice enough with the trimmers turned off, you will see that it's really not that hard everything in life seems difficult until you finally do it, and then you tell yourself that it was easy. Looking back at it, the same thing goes for cutting your own hair. It looks difficult, but if it were impossible, then how am i so easily able to cut my own hair? You guys can do it maneuver yourself, looking through the mirrors to find the positions that are most comfortable for you. When cutting, i usually like to press down with the blades to create that straight line and then pull away from my head to clean up that area. From here, so this is a great representation of a good neck lineup following the contour of my head. The seventh biggest mistake you need to avoid is cutting too much hair off the top right away using your scissors when cutting the top of your head with scissors. The best way to go about it is sectioning off your hair. If you haven't seen my original self haircut video, you can find it in the card section and fast forward to about the 12th minute. The first thing i do is wet my hair and then i create a middle part line, so i section off my hair creating a left and right side of my head once you see this, ask yourself how much hair do you want to get cut off? Do you want to cut off one inch of hair because it's getting too long or do you only want to trim off the dead ends whatever it is? You choose to do always start off by cutting a little bit less than what you want. This way you can always check to see if that length is what you want to have, and you can always cut more hair off if you feel it's not short enough, the last thing you want to do is cut a big chunk of your hair right away And then have to end up with a shorter haircut than originally planned. You can never go back once you cut off more than intended, but you can always keep cutting more if you don't cut enough. So the eighth biggest mistake to avoid when cutting your own hair is using your scissors on dry hair when cutting the length on top. Please do not do this if you have hair like myself, where it is not perfectly straight or thin, you must wet your hair. You can see how coarse and wavy my hair is. If i even attempt to pull up the hair using a comb in order to cut it with the scissors, look, what happens all of my hair starts to bend and curve in all different directions. This is not the way cutting your hair should be save yourself and wet your hair. What i like to do is completely wet my hair and then wring out any excess water. So it's not dripping on me. It must be 100 wet but not drenched in water. It should be enough for you to run your comb through it and every strand of hair stays completely straight and in order you can see how big of a difference wetting your hair does. I know you saw the before when my hair was dry. Every time you comb up your hair and cut straight across your hair will be perfectly even once you dry it. Oh my gosh, the 9th biggest mistake you need to avoid when cutting your own hair is using a hand-held mirror. Please do not use a handheld mirror. I used this tiny handheld mirror for years before i finally bought a stand-up mirror. There are a million problems i can think of using a handheld mirror when cutting your hair. Two big reasons are number one. The mirror is really small, so you won't be able to see the back and sides of your head properly whatsoever and secondly, if you have never cut your own hair before, how do you expect to multitask and hold this lousy mirror in one hand, without shaking and Cut your hair, using the other hand, you won't be able to do it. I recommend you guys watch my mirror setup video link in the cards and purchase yourself. A 7 walmart mirror like i have. It will save you a ton of hassle and stress, and this mirror is extremely affordable. The 10th and final mistake on this list that you need to avoid when cutting your own hair is not really your fault, but it's having poor vision. If you wear glasses or if you are farsighted and cannot see up close, i would recommend you guys go to your eye doctor and get prescribed a pair of contact lenses. If you put a pair of clippers in your hand, knowing you cannot see properly you deep down already know it's not going to end well for you and your hair, so the contact lenses that i use are the accuvue oasis two weeks set. They are not sponsored whatsoever, but i have been wearing contacts for the past eight years and these are my favorite lenses, call up your local doctor and get some contact lenses. If you want a sexy self haircut, you're going to want to see what you're doing, i believe in you 100 that you can cut your own hair youtube. I hope you guys enjoyed this video if you have any questions for me feel free to. Let me know down below in the comment section i'll do my best to get back to every single one of your questions make sure you guys leave this video a like subscribe down below if you're new to my channel. Alex Kouras: Self-Haircut Course (Save Your Time & Money): https://alexkouras.com I hope you enjoyed the video! Comment below what you want to see next. Let's hit 100K subs!

Joshuan Banx: I just gave myself my first haircut in my entire life due to quarantine. YOU helped me look good!. No way it would have came out really good without you. Thank you so much!!!. I followed most of these but wish I had followed the guidelines on the head. I feel I could have lined up both sides more equal to each other. I will check out your other videos for guidance on this. Besides this the haircut came out really dope. Thanks!!!.

hotgirlsarehot: Your video will help me in a few weeks time to improve. Cut my own hair yesterday and made some small mistakes, but overall sense of liberation was well worth it. No more over priced haircuts for me, EVEN when things return to normal.

Simon5005: One of the best tutorials I've seen yet! And I have seen quite a few! I am getting ready to do my first cut in 48 hours, and I think I have the basics down enough to avoid any disasters. I hope.

Jourell NOVA: Thank you so much for making these videos! I cut my own hair for the second time. The first one was just the tips to see how it went. Waited a week and then cut it in half because my hair was pretty long. It went well!!! My family and friends were impressed with the cut. THANK YOU!!! x3

Chris P: This guys got the skills that taught me how to cut my hair and save so much money .. ‍♂️

remaerD: Always on point with the haircut vids man. I've learned the most from you these past couple of months in terms of self cuts. Thank you!

Kimberly Cheung: Hey Alex! This video is super helpful! Found your other video and really enjoyed your personality. Thanks for making it so easy to follow and entertaining. Hope you’re well!

f0restelf: Thank you for not talking down to your viewers for not being professionals. So far this is the best video I've found for basic tips on how to use my clippers that doesn't expect me to already know all the terminology and everything. I'll be cutting my partner's hair, so thankfully we won't have to worry about the mirror set-up or bad vision once the glasses come off.

Akhil: great job alex, been cutting my hair for over ten years but always struggled with blending. Any tips other than using half guard? Also, what equipment do you use? MODEL and brand, thanks!

weeliano: Great self hair cutting video Alex! Maybe you want to do a specific video on the equipment you use. Ceramic vs Metal blades and how to keep your clippers in top condition. After learning how to self hair cut, I don't think I'll ever visit a barber again. My son also get his haircuts from me. Awesome channel Alex!

TheFutureTellsOurPast: Great videos : I have wavy hair like yours and cut my hair into a quiff going from long on top to shorter towards the back, when I comb the front of my hair forward you can see my scalp and a gap in my hair and doesn’t look as full , I’m going to to try growing it longer to see if it helps !!

What what What: I genuinely found this video to be informative and inspiring - Now I'm going to cut my hair :O I think the one thing I took out of this was the blending of the hairline - Glad I caught this before I risked anything.....

Did Jesus have a cat?: Loving this channel! Got my mrs to follow the cut using beard trimmer only and it turned out passable. Gonna get her to carry on practicing during lockdown and hopefully can save me money in the long term

Nick D: Ive been cutting my own hair, then my fathers, then my brothers for years. I always recommend they wash their hair and that it is damp, not wet. And between cuts I pop the blade off and clean/oil it. Cutting your own hair is easy once you figure out what numbers you need where, but every hairstyle is different. Ive learned not everyone can pull off one hairstyle so I absolutely hate cutting my brothers hair. My dad's is easy, I just trim him every 2-3 weeks. Great tips though! Thanks brother!

Vladislav Kim: Bro, I’ve used your videos and cut my hairs already 3 times! And each time better then before

Alec Kriegbaum: Thanks so much for all of the tips! they helped me cut my own hair lol... and make it look decent. you even inspired me to make my own channel!

proud2BaNurse: Great job! I started clippering my own hair far b4 the pandemic. Thanks for ur tips.

Reivern: Thanks for the tips! I tried to cut my hair just now, but unfortunately, I failed. However, it could have turned out a lot worse if I didn't watch your video.

Daryl John Lagadan: Thank you!! Please continue making haircut vids, It's been 6 months of cutting my own hair because of this guy! Support and learn from him

David El Sagitario: Hi Alex! Thanks for the video I really learned a lot..I’ve been doing my own hair for every 3 years already this vid was very good explained.. thank you! .

Michael Fenley: Once again, total 100% talent.

Irma Sosa: You are so funny!!! And very skilled!!! I have made all those mistakes in the course of 20 years cutting my own hair. Thanks for teaching me new skills

Pat Aherne: I cut me own hair today. I never did it before. It was very difficult and I thought I'd screw it up. I used a blunt small kitchen scissors only and a mirror. Wet hair beforehand. I didn't cut it too tight. top 3-4 cm... Sides and back about 2 cms. I managed to a shape around the ears and cut the back straight by feel. That's the key. You don't need an electric clippers. I used a razor over and back on my neck which was wet beforehand and rubbed my neck with plenty of hand sanitizer alcohol afterwards.

MJ1980NL: I find it easier if i held the 2nd miror myself. I could get closer to my 1st miror and see it beter. The miror i use isnt that heavy so no problems with shaking or anything. But i do enjoy cutting my own hair, im getting better everytime so its pretty awesome. I got the same hairstyle as you but i got very straight hair, no wavey hair or curly hair. I did the back with a set of beard trimmers and added another fade so the back would look cleaner, worked like a charm. Great vid again Alex

Aeyo Wimp: I used those round mirrors once that I could grip the stem of and used that to cut the back and sides of my hair, never went crazy to cut too much off but the cut turned out pretty decent lmao

David Byars: This was really informative! Especially in these times!

Boyd McCollum: Good tips on the contacts - I’ve been wearing glasses a lot more and forgot that I should put on my contacts when I attempt to cut my hair for the first time. That would have been awkward.

TinyAdult: I tried cuting my hair once before but my scalp was sore after it and I don't know what I did wrong. I do know that my hair got caught on the clippers a few times so how do I avoid that?

jujuhimself: Loved the last couple vids on cutting your hair. Please do one tapering the neck instead of boxing it if possible. Thanks man and great job.

Jennifer Fitch: Thank you so much for this video. I'm trying to learn how to cut my (adult) son's hair and I am so glad I watched this....more than once to make sure I Know what not to do. Lol

suresh gopalakrishnan: Hi Alex, which is the best model hair clipper / trimmer you would recommend for a beginner, for self hair cut ? Hope this message reaches you... with all wishes, Awaiting your response,

Tony: Please do a video on turning shoulder length hair into a fade self haircut tutorial. My hairs grown too long and I want my fade back however there is no barbershops open. I would be so grateful. Thanks man, love you channel ❤️

Niteesh Bihade: Alex, great tutorial. Probably the best on the internet. Thanks.

RAMA LOKE: Lockdown period of this corona forced me to learn self hair cutting, thanks bro, once I tried big success ✌️

C N: I cut my hair for the first time using you guide. Now im about to do my 3rd self hair cut I dont think ill ever go back to a barber lol. I cant cut my hair as good as you can but who know with practice maybe one day i can get close.

Fernando Conrado: Thanks for this video. I have follow your tips and has help. The only thing is that I do it without glasses some parts, and still comes better than my old dirty barber. Win win for me. Thanks..

LV: Love the follow up videos. I need all the help I can get

Bern Adventure: Great advise not only for self haircut but life wisdom

D I N O: As a marine I need this since it’s required to get a haircut every week and it gets expensive. I have been cutting my hair for 6 months now I messed up my hair just last week lmao

Meshwork123: Excellent. Many thanks. Could you tell me, I have Wahl beard trimmers for my goatee. Can I use them to do a no. 3 buzz cut all over without purchasing a set of hair clippers? They do come included with hair combs for haircuts, but for buzz cuts? I’m in my 60s, and much of my hair is now gone - but still some on top. Thanking you. Dave, Australia

anarchy 1408: I just need to buzz my hair down with a 3. Everyone says that theres no way I can mess it up if I'm just buzzing it with the size I want.

Movie Hd: Awesome content man keep up the good work, excited to see more

Shiny Heart: Hey Alex, could you make self haircut with only scissors and thinning shears video? It would be much appreciated. You have a very likable personality, I liked all of your videos. Anyway, thanks for what you are doing. Keep it up.

jayson L: Great explaination,great suggestion,great job...bravo Alexlooks awesome❤❤

El Twinks: Aww man you got me with the #9 cause I wear glasses and that’s a hassle for me but luckily I wear contacts too

Robert Frisby: I decided to not wait for bravery to find me and after i watched several guys on youtube demonstrate how to cut hair including this one and remembering how the gal at the salon cut my hair I just jumped in and started to cut my mop. Due to covid my hair had got pretty long. I have very strait fine hair and the new Wahl hair cutting kit I bought didn't cut my hair as easy as the ones the guys on youtube used. I found that looking into two mirrors to cut the back was almost impossible and when I was pulling my hair up with the comb and cutting with scissors was fine one direction but I couldn't go the other direction. My first time didn't turn out to bad but I still need help with blending the back and straitening things up a little more. Not as easy as you make it look.

ANKU: thank god i kept the instruction no. 5 in my list i was cutting my hair for the first time, and i think hair cutting is fun , getting it done from barber is boring

TUBESTEAKNIG: So hard to get the perfect part line by yourself.

DL Thomas: Alex, great advice! You are very good, sir!

jack suquett: Well I agree that you should cut your hair dry with clippers when possible. I think all the guy meant was that you should wet your hair so that its in its natural state. Most of the time you have a hat on before you get a haircut, or might even be waking up in the morning and your hair is plastered to your dome because of the pillow. So you wet it and than give it about 30 minutes. But unless your cutting the top, or can avoid cutting the top till the sides are done, you should make sure your hair is dry before hitting it with your clippers.

Tebby: HAHA I CUT MY HAIR WITH MY GLASSES. Its tough but I got the hang of it . The sides was the hardest but I somehow manage

Mister Giovanni: Alex: I'm not sure if I'm already in a position to cut my hair, I'll try, but I assure you, I had a lot of fun with your video. Greetings from Buenos Aires.

Bluezz47: Well...did not ONCE question how I was gonna do this being deeply shortsighted when I bought the clips... That last tip saved me

cashier acg: Thanks for the tip especially the specs and contact lens one

MelancholicThug: I tried it yesterday for the first time and I have to agree with the mirror thing. Using that handheld was garbage.

TML: Started cutting my own hair during lock down ...I've gotten pretty good at it ...wont go back to barbers thanks

hamishpearce007: I already got the skills to pay the bills,i've been cutting my friends and my own hair since i was 17 and now um 38. Learnt nothing new but good video though.

shura: I think I broke a few rules already I think my end result is ok...from the front anyway. No idea how the back is right now.

Javier Josa: Since I see your videos i cut myself the hair and it's great!

BABY ALEX: I cut my hair for the first time a couple weeks ago and I had to use a handheld mirror to cut the back and sidesnow I bought a 3 way mirror so I should be set

DAVID RIX: Fantastic video and informative welldone. Starting to cut my own hair coz of covid few mistakes but ok and got wife to do back of head

LV: Possible addition to the list - use wahl oil on your clippers.

HollywoodFan21 ( Luis Villavicencio ): Alex Kouras, Your own haircut tutorial is perfect.

Jeremiah Buck: Great tips, especially the mirror tip

Gm Mg: Great & helpful content.

virtuafighter3: Very good video. You are funny, without trying hard. I liked the sketches you have, as I can identify with these mistakes.

Paul McAnally: Great tips! Thanks so much

Benjamin Brown: I am totally blind and I do cut my own hair. I always have been cutting my own hair. So I give this advise. If you can shave with an electric razor then the clippers will bee like you are feeling at home. It is a bit different because you are not shaving with just the foil or rotary, but you have the guards to direct you. Also I can feel with my fingers if the hair is even or not. Also just like shaving. You will not bee able to cut any further down if you have a length guard on that keeps it a certain length. You are also going to hear the clippers as the hair is beeing cut. When the hair is done beeing cut, the clipper probably is not going to make a vacuum sound. Then that proabably means that you are fine. I have gotten comments on my hair and I always look neat and sharp. Peopl think that a barber does my hair but I do it.

Derya Haydar: Thanks for the great video, I will be glad if you have a question, and you can even make a video on this topic. my machine has 10 combs and there is no fine adjustment lever on the side of the machine how can i shave? How do I shave with a non-professional machine with 10 combs? What should I look out for for a nice shave? Thanks

Jason Matthew: One day I want to go to a park and see like 20 you tubers all shouting “it’s your boy” into their phones

Roger Herrerera: Great advice thank you!

Goodfella 45: Thnks for tips man.. i sub. My hair is just like you but i never used comb even when i cut it my self.

xxristiann xxristiann: Loving all your videos

Michael Mazzei: Doing mine in like 8 minutes!

Moto Music Riding: NICE tutorial men. Ur advice very effective thanks men

Muhaimen x99x: How about i wet my hair little bit so the clippers catches little easier than very dry hair?

Rameswara Rao: Very fine demonstration to follow easily

Apex Bruh: Bruh, this helped me out so much! Good looks dude

Squid: not as easy as it looks, it takes a lot of practice to get it right, which means you're going to end up bald most of the time

Jhun Noethiz: I tried to cut my hair twice and end up bald twice too.

Padma Koride: Sir thank you for this information it will make cut my hair properly

Sunil Kumar Gouda: Could you please make a video on just simple Spike cut. I mean all the hair are of uniform length except the front hair (near to forehead only) little bit longer in length.

GroovesAndLands: Alright broheim, you earned my subscription. Keep the good content coming!

Pjupe: Mr. Handsome is back. This intro was much more natural, would prefer this over the ordinary intro.

ahwayzcool: i use a hand held mirror along with my bathroom wall mirror to fade my hair. :)

Brahim Ait El Mouedden: Great content, thanks

whocares: The best content I've watched so far! Thank you for making this video.

Tushanthan Sekhar: ❤❤❤❤❤ I really want to cut my hair after being inspired by your video but I'm just a little scared. I do not know how to react and how to deal with the situation if the results are not satisfactory.

DJ EVIL: That quote at 6 min is exactly what I needed to hear today

lonerblader85: great tips bro. thanks!

Fairness Fighter: What trimmers for conture do u use?

Rodi Mousa: I tried to cuty own hair for few times the side of my haid i cut it pretty good but when it comes to the back its very tricy

mbenyaacoub: Man, your videos are great

Eric O: You make that look easy !!
